Description

This Webcam is located near the Surf Lifesaving Club at Shelly Beach. Shelly beach is one of the two main surf beaches in Ballina, near where I grew up. Every time I come home I try to take the kids to either this beach or Lighthouse Beach for a paddle.

Shelly Beach is patrolled during weekends and holidays in the summer months. The surf club has change rooms and showers to wach the sand off after your swim. At the south end of Shelly Beach, near the Webcam is a series of rock pools and a small concrete pool. In Winter the nearby Ballina Lighhouse lookout is a great place to spot the many whales that swim up the coast. I have seen a number here over the past couple of years.

To do this Webcam geocache, you will need:-
(i) GPS, or local knowledge.
(ii) Mobile phone.
(iii) Friend with a net-connected computer and a phone.
(iv) Willingness to have your picture posted here.

Your Task:

1) Go to the listed coordinates, locate the webcam and then use the webcam feed to figure out where you need to be to be seen in the webcam. You will notice that the camera bans around so you might have to wait a little while until the camera moves to your location. You also might need to get your feet sandy or wet for this cache, so I have given it a terrain 3.

2) Once you are there you can ewither use your smartphone to access the page or ask a friend to log into the webcam page at:

https://www.willyweather.com.au/cameras/nsw/far-north-coast/ballina-shelly-beach.html

3) Take a screenshot of the webcam witih you in the frame.    You might even try to write something in the sand for us to see.

Also let us know if you had a chance to try out the surf

We were picking up a kayak in Ballina on a winter day that felt more like a spring day and made a few finds on the way.

This is one of the easier Web cam caches we have found, as the internet on the beach was good, and the cam didn't move over too large an area.

Grabbed the screenshot as the kids ran around in the sand.

Thanks for the webcam cache!

I was in Ballina for the day and thought I would find this surf cam. I used to swim in the little pool on family visits some time ago. The surf cams have moved to a new site 'surfline'. The ads are so frequent and intrusive that it is difficult to get a fix on any feature to know where to stand. It took me a while walking over the rocks to find a suitable place and not get my shoes wet. The waves were breaking over the rocks and there was a large amount of foam quivering in the breeze. Finally I can see myself in the photo. I was looking for a particular shaped cloud on the horizon. Thanks for the challenge MalDawg

This was way easier than the Kirra webcam. I could see the camera and watch it moving. I could also clearly see myself in the view. Surf is not at all inviting today. Feel sorry for the poor Lifeguard sitting in the tent slightly protected from the wind on the grey and empty beach.

After taking a pic of the mini lighthouse for that cache we noticed the Surf Cam not far away. We'd always used the computer to do webcams which was a bit of hassle at the beach so when we heard you can use the phone we were keen to give it a try. Easy as! That's us with the white hat and backpack, managed to get a photo with no one else in it... freaky! Picture taken and we were off to the other Ballina beach cam. TFTC MalDawg.

We noticed that this was unfpund as well so 2nd FTF for the day the weather was not the best as it shows in the pictures thanks for placing this cache for us to find
