Description
An often overlooked historical spot
This cache finds you at the T.M.E. (Tasmanian Mineral Extractions) Historical site.
I feel this spot is often overlooked as people head on up the road to Montezuma falls, but is well worth a look.
There is lots to look at there, and some VERY detailed signage on the interpretive walk. There's plenty of old mine/mill equipment sitting here for your perusal, plus a lookout or two.
Cache is a 1.2l Black Sistema with plenty of swaps.
Access to the site is by taking the Montezuma Falls turnoff from the Murchison Highway, a few kilometres west of Rosebery. The carpark area is well signposted and easy to find.
Enjoy the spot, and do the full loop, it won't take long at all!

Logs
Well, you're right in that it won't get found when it's archived, except you're wrong, because I found it. It's still in good nick too, which is surprising as it doesn't seem overly protected from the damp.
I don't update GSAK well enough to consistently remove archived caches, so I went ahead and found it today after visiting Montezuma Falls. It's a very interesting area with so many reminders of a life long gone, I think the whole area is in disrepair though - not an interpretive sign to be seen, the actual sign pointing to the area is fallen over, and it's a bit overgrown. But the things are all there. It's such a fascinating history.
Thanks anyway, as you indicated, I would have overlooked it and not stopped if it wasn't for the cache(s).

Hi CraigRat
Anne and I left for the West Coast about 0810hrs on Monday staying in Queenstown over night. Yesterday we spent the night at Zeehan. Today, day three of the West Coast tour, saw us leave Zeehan, visit Rosebery, Tullah, Waratah and Savage River; staying the night at Burnie.
This cache was the fourth on the agenda for today.
Arrived at the car parking area and found the track to ground zero quickly. I was a little luckier with the weather here as the rain abated for most of the search. Ground zero was located quickly.
A very quick find and this cache was logged at 1026hrs this morning.
The cache container was half full of water, which was emptied. The log had not been affected and is still in good condition.
We absolutely loved ground zero and the surrounding area.
This cache gets a favourite from me.
No sight of leeches this morning unlike yesterday; when they seemed to be every where I searched for a cache.
Found five caches in total for day one. Day two, eleven caches found. The third day has coffed up nine cache finds and two "Did Not Finds" but I think those two caches maybe missing in action. Have had a better time watching Anne's face as she got a better look at the West Coast. She's loved Nelsons Falls, Strahan, the Museum at Zeehan and the falls at Waratah.
Thanks for the cache and the fun of the find
Cheers OldSaint.

GPS was reasonably accurate here so ignored the hint as the sign is long gone. A quick, easy find in an amazing spot. Log is a bit damp but quite useable. TFTC [^]

Funny this cache and the GC one hidden here within 30 days on one another. My GPS was being very inaccurate here and I think I was extremely lucky to find it after it was behind the first tree that I looked behind. The closest sign was more than 10 metres away. There was still a little water in the container which I poured out, but the log was only slightly damp. No chance of drying it today.
Interesting meandering through here. Container had water in, log ok. Tftc

Found on our West Coast Wilderness holiday with whitewebbs. While staying at Zeehan we found several caches in the area and this was one of them. Would not have come here but for the cache so thanks for bringing us here.

Lucky to find as sign no longer there and tree is a tree fern. If boiler is on right and engine is straight in front tree fern is on the left. Found with Tassie Trekkers while holidaying on the west coast. Interesting spot we would not have gone to except for caching. TFTC.

Found on a trip from Queenstown to Stanley while here on holiday from Perth, WA. Another cache that has led us to an interesting spot. Thanks for bringing us here.
Found at 19:10 on our way back from the Montezuma falls. Enjoyed this historic area despite not having much time as we had to get back for dinner. The evening sunlight did give it that extra bit of charm though. Had to duck under a massive circle spider web to get into this cache. Thanks!

Thanks for bringing us to this very interesting historical site. It is always good to learn more about the conditions our ancestors worked in. TFTC
Heading up to Williamsford for sneaky peek and we found out that there was a cache nearby. Lived down the west coast for 12 mths and have never been here before. What a great spot. Thanks for the cache
Found this cache after driving up the Williamsford and having a sticky beak up there.
This is a great area and I didn't even realise it was here until caching. I had been around here BC but never ventured in.
TNLN, thanks CraigRat for showing me yet another unknown area.

Have driven past this site for many years, it took a cache to get me out of the car for a look. Nice spot of history.
It is pleasing to see that mining history is being preserved. We took many photos of the early mining equipment and of the explanatory diagrams. Thanks for bringing us to this site. It took us a few minutes to track down this cache as our GPS was bouncing around a little. TFTC
finally got to get this one as it was dark last time dave dad tried to find it

A quick find in a great spot, whish more time had been available to explore but work was calling. TFTC

Quite an interesting place for anyone into engineering or historical machinery, but I can see how rusty old relics aren't quite as alluring as a magnificent waterfall. Though they definitely do need some less vague signage at the carpark if they want the tourists to at least wander in for a look. Took the FTF prize, since no one else wanted it!

Very interesting place...and ditto Shazcol's comments. A real shame to see these walks disintegrate after so much work has gone into them and with so much accessible history. Thoroughly enjoyed peeking at all the old mining equipment...a unique experience and well worth a look. TFTEC CraigRat...Cheers.

Really interesting area with plenty of information boards and pictures. Pity a little bit of maintenance has not been done and it is very over grown in places. The sign on the road does not do it justice to lure you in.

I rarely get down Queenstown way and just happened to be here caching, so thought I'd pop in and have a look. It's a very interesting site. Pity the sign up on the road was'nt as informative as the signage along the walk - Just reads T.M.E. track.
Found the well placed cache OK and entered it's first log.
I did'nt open the FTF Prize (nice touch)as it felt flat and round,so left it for the next finder who is hopefully a collector of flat round things.
Thanks Craigrat.
I will put some photos up soon
