Description

This cache is the 4th in the Branching Out series.

To access the area, park at S41 26.980 E147 05.338 no need to enter the Trevallyn Dam Reserve but proceed along the walking track through the small gate.

The track runs parallel to the South Esk River, a spectacular sight when in flood.

Cache is off main track so be aware of uneven ground and drop offs, as not fenced, particularly with jnr cachers.

Please take note of how it comes apart and replace by lining up the 2 nail heads, then replace cache as found.

Contains Log sheet only -  bring your own pen.

Back again to find this cache and this time I looked down instead of up and finally found what I was looking for, well worth the effort! This was the last of the Branching Out series for me to find and it only took me two years! I must say I have loved each and every one of these caches although at times I was cursing the hider - lol

Edit: I did not have a pen or other sort of writing implement on me, I did consider blood but thought that might be a bit too dramatic. So, I took a photo of the log (lol) and will be back (as I am always along this track) and sign it properly.

I searched and searched for ages with this one and as it has been found recently I was sure I was going to find it...I was hoping to finish of the series but that looks like that will be another day.

24-Nov-19
today we choose to target all the caches in the Trevallyn dam area, we attempted 14 caches with 13 finds and 1 DNF. it was a very hot waling along the trail so we were always on the look out for our slithering friends.
this cache was took a little to locate with accurate co-ordinance but once found we admired how clever this container was. it seems that the ants have made the container their home.

Oh dear. So many branches to branch out on. Have looked here twice for around a half hour each time. I'll get it eventually. Love this series.

15-Dec-16
Found this one surprisingly quickly - spot on Coord's made up for lack of a hint. Another great cache, all in good order, TFTC!

When we got to GZ we were thinking this time we would have more luck as we were getting into this series now but no it took us 20 minutes before Alby came up with the goods, a well hidden and made cache made up for it, what a great series so far. We were thinking the rest of the cachers would turn up any minute but it was not the case so we moved on to the next.

07-May-16
This cache had our diminished group of 5 baffled for quite a while, We worked out what we were looking for but struggled for quite some time until eventually Alby Dangles came up with the prize. Another outstanding cache in this series that nearly had us beaten. TFTC

Found it 07/05/2016

Tassie Trekkers thank you for the cache.

This one was found while caching with a great group after the Trevallyn Trekking event.

We had searched for this one for too long and was about to leave thinking this was to be our first DNF when I spotted the cleaver hide.

Nice.

Checked on this cache today and the others in the series. Still in position and in good order.

Excellent....I have a GC cache home in Canberra almost identical. Love the work that has gone into this one. Always seems to bring a few cachers undone.....

Thanks TT....very cool *Recommended* for the fun...

At last I have found this one- the last of the branching out series for me. It took me a couple of visits to this area before I found the tricky little cache after walking around in circles for awhile. I really enjoyed doing this series and the quality of the caches was outstanding so I am a little disappointed that I have finished the series. Cache container was in excellent condition considering it has not been found in over a year. ClappingClappingClapping

The least branchy of the branchings. Good thing it was a quiet afternoon on the track (only one other couple & a couple of rangers passed all day) as I was a shag on a hill. Easily spotted - once I actually looked at the right spot. Another well done hide.

26-Aug-14
Checked on this cache and the others in the series. In good order.

30-Dec-13
I've only just started locating caches from the GCA website and so far I have not been disappointed with the quality of the hides. Really enjoying this series but watch out for the ants at this one. TFTC

02-Nov-13
783. A bit of an easier find for me as something caught my eye. Love it when effort is gone to to create a hide.

TFTC and the banana.

04-May-13
A quick find due to a clue in the description. Loved the hide. Did a bit of bush bashing between #3 and this one. The local wallabies watched us in amazement. TFTC

27-Jan-13
Well we were on a roll now so this one didn't take too much of a search to find. Excellent construction! A colony of ants had built a nest in it though, complete with eggs, but we managed to get all the ants and eggs off and extract the log for signing. Well done, thanks!

20-Dec-12
Another top cache...this one was all ok...good hide. Enjoying the walk around...many thanks FTC Tassie Trekkers...Cheers.

Very fun to find! Great location! We really appreciate the time put in to this cache! Best one yet!

TFTC! A very clever group of caches! Found with Elcato Very Happy

Thankyou, another wonderful find in this series, we even managed to make friends along the way with two leeches lol Very Happy

04-Sep-12
Back on track, and a quick find. I really loved the construction.
I also loved the fact that I was starting to get glimpses of the water below.
Thanks.

This was my second attempt, found it almost immediately, must have had a blokes look last time. Great series, good job.

01-Jul-12
Number three for the afternoon. This one took us a bit longer. Only one of the series where the co-ordinates didn't put us spot on. A certain amount of arboreal consideration gave us a find. Excellent cache. We'd forgotten our pencil so this one was signed in charcoal!

23-Jun-12
Found this one after almost no searching, obviously started to develop an 'eye' for these. Very well done, a fantastic series. TFTC

06-Jun-12
We decided to increase the difficulty of this series by doing it in reverse. Great cache and a memorable series. A lot of thought and effort has gone into it and we enjoyed it immensely. TNLNSL. Thankyou for organising the hunt.

As all who have done this series of 6 caches have mentioned, what a terrific set of well thought out, cunningly crafted and placed caches!
Thank you so much for spending what would have to be an awful lot of time constructing these hides and probably an equal amount of time placing them.
You have given a lot of pleasure to many people already and will continue to do so into the future. I can't find these caches listed on the .com site just the .com.au site so some people must be missing out.

11-May-12
This was my favourite of the six caches in this series, great hide! TFTC

12-Mar-12
And now the fourth in this marvelous series, all of which were a delight to discover. Had a most enjoyable walk through the bush, accompanied by sounds of running water, roos, kookaburras, other birds, butterflies - and even ticks!
Getting quite clever now at spotting the likely "hide" - another ingenious design. Thanks for the hunt Tassie Trekkers.

05-Mar-12
Found this cache fairly easily once I discounted all the other possible hiding places. And for this one you need a pen - well, mine is back in the car and I wasn't going to walk back to get it. So I found a suitably burnt stick, broke the end off and wrote with that. Seems I'm not the only person to do that, looking at some of the previous logs.
Thanks for the cache and the series

01-Jan-12
Our first cache for 2012 after 3 previous attempts to find this one. Took another better GPS with us today so we had some confidence in the position. Still almost gave up again till I noticed it. Hardest to find in the series as the others we found relatively Ok and first time. You guys have put a lot of effort into this series, well done.

While my wife attended a conference in Launceston I was allowed to go caching for two days in and around the Launceston Area. In the end I managed to go through to Derby and get the icem cache I wanted to find, through to Kayena and check my caches there and clear out the majority of Launceston Traditionals that were actually there. The only one that I failed to get was "Power to the People", where I simply ran out of time.

This one took me a while more, I was looking for a simalar hide to the previous 3 and this was a bit different. Thank you for the great series

Hi Again
From three to four and then on to find two more!!
Going strong and still no rain!
Wind dropped completely at the moment. Cloud still hovering.
Arrived at ground zero and had to widden the search on this one. Obvious looking spots revealed nothing. So what looks unusual? Nothing much! Look around a bit more and ... Ah! Ha! ... Yes there it is!! Love those light bulb moments.
Extracted the log from its great hiding place and signed it at 1232hrs.
Excitement on this series is growing with each find. This was a terrific cache; I loved it. Your imagination is to be commended. Thus far, a great series that got better with each find.
TFTC and cheers; OldSaint.

4th in the series and enjoying the walk and the hunt. This was the hardest so far. GPS had us jumping around. When settled finally found a well crafted hide. TFTC.

A Challenging series of caches that obviosuly a lot of time and effort had gone into. Clapping Thanks Tassie Trekkers

23-Jul-11
Mrs 3DG found this one quickly.
Forgot to bring a pen so made our mark with charcoal.

17-Jul-11
Well, this was a bugger to find, we looked for a good 15 minutes before leaving to go find #5

On the way back I popped up for one more look and eventually found it, such a well crafted hide, we were all most impressed!

Thanks for a brilliant cache and cache series.

15-Jul-11
If something looks a little out of place it must be the Cache. Quick look round soon had this one to hand. Once again a good hide in a great area. TFTC

13-Jul-11
Out of the series this was the hardest. I must have been past the dam thing a dozen times until I noticed something unusual. Cache in hand but where had my biro gone? The log is noted using a piece of charcoal. A clever hide in an open area. Many thanks

09-Jul-11
This one took the longest of the series and was also the one that we had the most trouble getting a lock with the GPS on. So many places it could have been!! But finally found something that was just a little bit odd! Another find to Mrs B. Thanks.

07-Jul-11
Whilst there is a very definite theme to the caches in this series, each is very distinctive with carefully planned and extremely well constructed hides with the coordinates being very accurate. We thoroughly enjoyed our walk through this part of the reserve, sharing the company of wallabies, an echidna (which we though should be hibernating), black cockatoos and robin red breasts. This is a great hide which took some tracking down. We were surprised that it had remained unfound - so, we will claim the FTF at 10:25. Thanks for a great series TassieTrekkers
