WitchPig I didnt find your cache SES on 7/8/2024, 3:35PM. Arrived at the car park and noticed there has been a recent back burn in the area. Hoping the cache survived. Found a way to GZ through the burnt out area. Arrived at GZ and the cache did not survive. All that was left was a pen and the metal spring from the notebook. See photos.
Happy to grab oldies before people mark them for archival, this is the best feeling. We just hope newbies respect wear and tear and assist in maintenance.Coords are spot on! Nice hide on a warm day.
Muggle65 has been keen to find older caches so we started our day here. Cache found in good condition. Thank you for the fun
Taking advantage of my last day in Australia to do some geocaching.Thank you for the discovery !
Geocaching with my bestie. This cache is as old as half my life! Very steep climb.
3/5/2023 Find #6082
A solo afternoon of Wednesday Wanderings today, I decided to hit up a few caches that were kind of close to home, but older ones in areas I tend to avoid - that area being the city, or its close proximity.
With the targeted caches in that zone accomplished, I still had a little time left to play. I mean there’s always time for “one more cache” right?!
Well I headed this way and grabbed another nearby older cache then decided it was only a relatively short walk to this one, so I’d have plenty of time before heading home at a good time.
However I obviously didn’t read the logs on this one first and may have not thought through the terrain that is Mt Coot-tha, especially when you have to “go bush”.
At approximately 180 metres out I figured I should probably look at a log or two, and then made a decision. A decision that might not have been the right one. But then I don’t know what the right option is, or if anyone has actually made it. I opted to head in early and approach from lower down rather than from the top. And it became rather an effort, with me almost doing myself a knee injury and ironically coming close therefore to possibly needing the SES on this cache! But eventually I got myself to GZ and made a quick find.
With log signed it was now time to decide which way to exit back to the path. And I opted to head up and out as I was sure that I could see something of a ridge line which would surely be roughly where that track is.
Well it was hard going too but I finally got out and found a very thin track, not the big wide track I was after, but a track nonetheless, and one that I knew would get me easily enough to the track I was after.
A quick dash once back on the main track and I was heading back to the car and choosing just which 7-Eleven I would be detouring to on the way home for a cold drink.
Thanks for the cache WitchPig.

My T average was getting a bit low so I was looking for some caches to give it a boost. This one was perfect - a fun challenge without requiring any special gear. I tried to go across at the right contour, but still ended up too high up and had to slide down to the cache. It’s definitely easier to go up this hill than down it. A nice easy find at the GZ and then carefully back to the track. TFTC!
The only exciting thing about walking up this hill was knowing there was a coffee van waiting for us back at the bottom. Mrs Woodyrothwell is allergic to inclines and protested the whole way. We looked for a great spot to launch an assault from but nothing appeared and we found ourselves way above GZ.
We knew there was some sort of bush bashing involved so walked back down to pick a better assault location. My wife said that her head was still ringing from the bubbles last night so it was left to me to travel the last bit alone. I took a bit of extra precaution and time to make sure I made it to the cache and back again alive. tftc

Tricky to get to, steeper than I was expecting. Easy to find once I was there, now I just have to find a way back up...

Been wanting to visit this cache for a while now, but it never seemed to be the right day or time. But today was the day - and after a lazy start to the day I parked at the bottom and headed up the very very very steep track. No bikes until I was coming back down again today. Got to a spot I liked and headed left where there be no tracks. Kind of traversing, half sliding and grabbing trees to stay up I made it across to some 12m above GZ, spotted the obvious spot and slid down to it. Quick find - and the log and container are perfectly fine. So lovely to see an original container after 15 years here.
Thanks WitchPig for entertaining me at this location.

I strongly recommend that that you continue placing your caches at the end of the day WitchPig. That climb & the subsequent bush bashing was quite enough exercise for me. Having found the cache, I signed a very wet logbook which could certainly do with replacing. All the same TFTC
Or for a morning walk along the beautiful Mt Cootha walking trails. This one took quite a bit off easy bush bashing (vegetation wise not terrain wise) to reach GZ. At GZ however it was a quick and easy find. TFTC WitchPig
Today I had a mission to pick up some remaining older geocaches up around Chermside, and I had accomplished exactly that. But I was still feeling in the mood, so checked my list again and figured I'd tackle this, ensuring a return drive home is through the city (rather than some toll road).
I've lost count the number of times I've visited the Mount Coot-tha area, and hiked various paths, so it struck me as odd that I've missed this oldie every other time. But, it is the target today. I found an appropriate carpark and checked the signposted map. I took the track-whose-name-I-never-found-out from just near the footbridge along the road and headed up.
On my way, I read some logs which talked about the scramble. With my heartrate doing some impressive things as I pressed up the slope, I wondered if that scramble meant the bit I was on, or after I left the track. Either way, we'll sort it out.
Watching the contours meant I left the track early, crossed a mountain bike track and followed a contour along. Every footfall I slid a little sideways. Yeah, it sure is steep with no track to speak of. But, it's not far and not otherwise difficult.
Most annoyingly, I spotted the geocache and I was about twelve metres uphill from it, meaning I'd have to lose some of my precious altitude. But I slid down and soon had the geocache in hand. While I found the logbook dry enough (and signed the logbook around 16:30), there was some soggy bits within. I gave it a dry and removed the unrecognisabel wet bits. Much nicer geocache!
And just the exact same to get back out - even if I nearly did go for an unintended scoot crossing the mountain bike trail again. Back to the car via a bin, and that's me done with geocaching for today. Five enjoyable smilies and some 2007 goodness to boot. Thanks for this geocache, WitchPig

Found with polo, log is wet. Nice challenge and walk. Enjoyed it... Lucky we found it before it rained to much
Needs a new notepad and better waterproofing as the existing pad is very damp.
Thanks for setting it up. Quite the scramble!

Arrived to a text from my friends saying they were going to be late for our hike this morning. That gives me 30min to get this and back to the car park! Headed up and scrambled and slipped around before finding this. Hooray! Ran back down the hill just as my mates arrived. Lots and lots of SES volunteers today searching for a missing man. Thankful we have teams happy to mobalise to assist.
Thanks for the cache

Found near the end of a nice circuit bushwalk. Bit of a scramble to it. Easy find once I read the hint. Tftc
Had a lot of fun slip sliding away down the side of the mountain with geopup this morning.
Found the cache in great condition, co-ords were spot on.
Log signed, all replaced as found, we slipped right back down to the bottom again.
Thanks for the cache WitchPig.

Out with Chamad picking off a few of Mt Cootha's caches.
Battled our way through the spiders webs.
Log in good condition.

What a great cache!! Pretty challenging for little feet, but we were happy to discover it. Thanks x
Found on my way down the hill from a tree climb further up the slope.
Beardman75 generously offered to join me on the walk here.
Cleared our some thrash as I signed the log.
All good with the cache

I set out to get this at 6:15pm, and was aware of the fading light. Excellent choice as the terrain picked up steeply and I questioned my decision making. Decided eventually to leave the path and set off in to gz, stumbling along the path of least resistance. Eventually I found the cache and added my moniker to the log. Back down again in the twilight. TFTC!
As I made my way to GZ, I pondered the question, what is the tipping point between geo-trail and bush-bash? I think I spent much more of my time involved in the latter than the former, in this particular case. Lots of fun though! Thanks for the cache, WitchPig.
Found with bennyboppers and jemillalucy today after dropping down over the hill. Tftc
After a steep climb on this morning‘s walk, we went off Trail a bit and further up to get to this one. The hide was safe and dry; we signed the log and then headed back to the Trail.
Thanks for heading us this way and for the lovely walk we had to get to the geocache.

While Brother Colin is in town for a few weeks, he graciously accepted my offer of a day climbing some T5 trees using his ropes, gear and expertise as a return favour for my assistance on his SSE GeoArt.
This one was grabbed enroute to a tree climb further up the hill. A Geocoin was retrieved, which was not logged into this cache. Thanks for the hunt **WitchPig**, this find makes #4449. Discover our TB

We were out for a fun day of caching with ViKoCZ today, mostly to target a few tree climbs but also a few other caches while we were in the area. We were blessed with a very nice sunny day for our adventures and we had a terrific time finding a variety of caches
We had no difficulty in locating the cache and with our names added to the log book, we continued on our way.
Thank you WitchPig for having placed the cache and maintaining it for everyone to enjoy

#4505 [11:40] Thanks for this cache, it was a great time spent around with friends. Sorry for such late log
TFTC... 22/7/17. The hills are alive with mnance101 and I finding the hardest way in, and, of course, an easy way out. Think "geotrail".
Out caching with Remsjw. A very steep and slippery climb down to the cache. Now to get back to the path! TFTC!
The track to this used to be a nice single track no on knew about. Now it's a 5m wife fricking highway with every man and his dog on it. Cache was IPS. Bag is torn but log is dry. Covered with more camo. All good. TFTC
I think this is even further off the beaten track than it used to be, with the nearest path having just been removed and replaced with a new track another 30m or so to the west. Still, the geokids enjoyed crashing through the undergrowth on the way to GZ. Phone struggled to get a good position with all the trees, but after some searching, we had a 'mission from God' moment - an afternoon ray of sunshine shone through the trees and directly onto the cache in its hiding space, lighting it up like a lantern! And we were rewarded with the very impressive Dead Man's Party geocoin.
Well, this one was quite off-road. Exited the forest sweaty and dirty. Last one of today after a long walk.
Oh my! It was a slippery downhill ride to GZ in appropriate footwear. Well, I packed the boot socks but neglected to bring the boots Out here on the Powerful Owl trail for maintenance on a nearby cache and decided to follow the track up and around to the left and check out the T5 tree climb (nope that's not doable without equipment) and then log this cache.
A quick find and this old container is clean and dry but full of rubbish. I replacdd the logbook and trackable ONLY in the plastic bag. Maybe the next visitor could bring a bag to remove the bits of paper in the jar?
Dropped off the Dead Man's Party geocoin to sleep off his excesses
TFTC WitchPig! Now to clamber back up the cliff and down the goat track.

But cache found in the end. Sore knees the prediction for tomorrow!!

Took the long (and high) way round to collect this cache. Decided to make the find and the terrain a bit harder by heading up the hill then come at it from the top. The GPS was bouncing round so luckily there were only a few obvious spots it could be in a 20m radius. After signing the log took the much easier way out. Thanks for the cache WitchPig.
Find #1992 at 14:04 while in the area.
I rather enjoyed a nice hike in to this one, I feel that one leg is longer than the other now! The hike back out (going the other way) was much the same.
I pity the poor SES folks who on occasion have to search terrain like this. At least we can stop when we want to (yeah right...)
Thanks for the cache, WitchPig.

Had to go a bit off road to find this one with a steep downhill walk, however was good fun, tftc!
I had fun finding this one. It's a bit damp inside but other that that the cache is fine. TFTC
After getting lost on Mt Coot-tha the day before, we approached the cache from a different direction this time and found it after some bush bashing. Nice location! TFTC!!
Dropped off an overseas geocoin whose mission is to travel back to Salzburg, Austria Good luck and safe travels!!

Found whilst out on my Mt Barney training walk. My 15kg back pack made the hill feel that bit steeper and slippery, thanks for placing it out here!
One of the most remote ones I've done so far. Fun trek with Kristle89 and cache is right at the GZ. TFTC!
A scramble to this one couldn't see any marked tracks, just followed the compass, which luckily lead us right to it. Not looking forward to the scramble back! Log in good condition (broken pen, but there is another cute one for those who forget to byo.) Thanks for the overseas coins made swaps and signed log. Now which way is back!
Found by a group known as little butt sliders for the day as there are more then just one of us. Good thing we r the little butt sliders cause that's how we r getting back.
Found on a visit to the mountain. Cache has a fair bit of water in it. Very very moist notebook and pen is kaput. Ended up boxing the whole area to find this one! Thanks for the cache.
Found it with lots of effort required and disobeying council signs as it was down a closed track and in the bush. I have yet to learn to wear long pants and or gators to protect ones leg when a stick jams into skin!it hurts and tends to make you bleed. By far my most adventurous one yet. Thanks. All still in tact with coins a little car and house. Awesome
I'm sure i took the steepest approach possible for this cache. not a lot of fun.
There is a last bus driving from the hill to the city. How much time do I need to get this one? I give myself 25 minutes to climb up - without succes I will have to get back by then. The route appears to be a very iterative one. Maintenance of paths and closing of routes threaten, but do not affect the approach. At some moment I see some cache-path, and although on the steep hill, that one is possible to follow. Now I do understand the stars for terrain, they are well placed! The cache itself is easy to find, the logbook dry by now, so the maintenance is not needed anymore to my opinion...? Returning I do not have to hurry for the bus, enough time left to go down safely. Thanks for this one, nicely placed!
Finishing work a little earlier than normal (by half an hour) means that I had daylight for a bit longer. Extra daylight meant that I could search for this cache and still be back to the car before dark I parked the car and spent a little time trying to find the access point. I found one that wasnt marked on my map, but headed in the right direction. It met up with the other track, so everything was good. I continued to walk up, until it was time for a bit of bush bashing. With only runners on my feet, not hiking shoes, I slipped and slid a bit, but managed to stay on my feet. Before long, I spotted what I was looking for and made my to it. There, waiting for me, was the cache. I signed the log and returned the cache to where I found it before heading back down the hill to the car, and home
Yay. Took nothin in left nothin. Container bit smelly. Sighted log. LOT I BRUSES/CUTS.
I was out geocaching around mt Coot-tha for the day with Dylb77. This was our first cache of the day. We managed throughout the day to take the most difficult routes to caches and we started with this one. The cache was found easily and signed. TFTC
This was the first cache of the day spent at Mt Cootha with Karenhippo, after taking the long way around to get up there, we found the cache, signed the log and started to make our way back, again the long way lol
TFTC!

today we had a lot of fun when we visited Mt Coot-ha, finding this cache went with it, tftc
I was in the area and figured that one more cache would not hurt, that I had plenty of time to take a look.
Well I was wrong, getting up here was slightly painful since I already had some sore muscles but that was my own fault for pushing up some little hills earlier in the day. It doubly hurt me as it took slightly longer then I thought leaving me sitting in traffic to get home. But oh well I had fun anyway.
So I worked my way up and at a suitable spot I choose to follow the elevation line around instead of going up and back down. But even though when I got near GZ I did a couple of loops, not really paying attention to the GPSr as much as I should. Once I got going right though the find was fairly quick and painless. I got my name added to the log and was soon working my way back down the mountain.

Went for a morning walk to collect this one. It was just threatening to rain when I started so I didn't scout about too much looking for a track and just started following the magic arrow from the car park. This was working ok but kept taking me up a gully so at about 60m from GZ I detoured toward the ridge to the north and came across a path I haven't been on before (and I've been on a lot of paths over Mt Coot-tha).
Figuring the path would probably take me close to GZ I put my head down and marched up to the top where I found that I was still 60m from GZ now looking down a gully...
So I started of piste and slowly made my way down. I was pretty happy to spot the hide from a good distance off and even happier to have signed up before the rain hit.
After signing up I headed north back to the track down the ridge and took that down to the bottom. I got back to the car just as the heavy rain started.
Thanks for the cache and the invigorating early morning walk!
