Very disappointed to log a DNF on this one. I scoured GZ and the surrounding area for about 20 minutes. No luck unfortunately! Thanks anyway, I enjoyed the walk regardless.
TFTC! 28 September 2024 12:38:41PM 8554 thanks to alex for the cache! Thanks for looking after this cache. On our list for a long time but never enough time to walk or the weather has been bad. This morning starts aligned and off we went. We started near the bottom carpark but soon the track was under construction so we commenced near the information are. A decent hike but amazing views thanks
It took a long way in the forest due to the rainy weather and was about to give up but we didnt
This cache has been in place for 23 years with almost 500 finds and 44 favourite points. At no time in those 23 years has Parks Victoria queried its position or requested its removal.
This geocache is placed well off of a path within a parks Victoria run wildlife reserve and conservation area. This reserve also holds significant Aboriginal cultural value. The placement encourages visitors to leave the path and make their way through 40 metres of bushland including trampling upon native shrubbery. I went to try to find the geocache and quickly realised that this was unable to be achieved without harming the surrounding ecosystem. I believe placement just by the path would be better for both visitors and the sustainability of the local flora and fauna.
Travelling with iluvtrekking from our home state of WA on a SA caching foray. Spending a few days in Warrnambool to grab some local finds. A few people on the track today. Nice walk and happy to get an oldie. Thanks for the hideLNCU
Travelling with richlink on our Annual Caravan Geocaching road trip, using geocaching as our guide. It's cool, but the sun is shining, it's a perfect day to explore Tower Hill. Thanks for the cache. LNCU.
Due to construction work on site, with no idea of the finishing date, this cache is completely inaccessible due to the path being closed.I was really needing this one for an ausmer but no climbing over 2m fences for me
Today we will leave South Australia and enter Victoria. Stopped first at the border for some pictures and then continued towards Portland and later Warnambool. Again a lot of fun things to see along the route - and we're quite lucky with the weather, 18 degrees and sun-cloud mix. Coming here was really worth it - we saw so many animals here, emus tying to snatch food from a table, sleeping koalas, kangaroos... The hike up took some time, but the views are worth it. Took some time all in all, but well invested. Thanks, Hinni&Simo
After over seven weeks on the road, I'm back home and slowly catching up on all my logging. This was a very long full-on day as we crossed the border from SA and had a lot of LGA's to tick off on our to-do list before eventually making our way across the states. The majority of caches we found were in great condition and well maintained, which is a credit to all the CO's who placed them. Our logs were signed as 5 for QLD to save room on the log sheets
Wow what a great area. Had to get this one given the age of the cache. Took about 10-15 mins of searching but once we expanded the area, we came up with the goods. Great to see this cache still hidden. TFTC
Nice to get an oldie. Beautiful hike.Only wildlife we saw other than birds was the koala 3 metres from the car.Our plan hatched months ago when we learned that the Ballarat Geotour would be ending in early March. From Sydney it was a no brainer to do both. A host of characters conspired to make plans. Including drobbonz kimmy533 Kiwisteve2 and tessa-bella. The trip morphed multiple times but Adelaide was the goal for Leap Day.I spent the last one in Las Vegas.Sydney, Ballarat, Great Ocean Road, Adelaide, Flinders Ranges, Mildura and back to Sydney. TFTC
Our NEW ZEALAND - TASMANIA - AUSTRALIA JOURNEY takes us to beautiful places and provides us with an incredible number of wonderful moments and experiences.Occasionally we also visit a few GeoCaches along the way. After reading a few previous logs, we prepared ourselves for a long search here.... But after about three minutes, we were able to sign the guestbook. We were still being watched...(see photo)...Thank you for placing, maintaining and caring snapfish2 from SwitzerlandPS: Translated with the Deepl app
Found a way down through the prickly stuff and searched, then widened out to nearly 10m before we found it. Great to see such an old cache still active. Favourite from us.
Spent ages getting scratched while searching around a pretty wide area. Nowhere near the GPS coords we're convinced...
This was the 2001 that took me longer to find than it should have....but I got there eventually!-----------------------------------------------------------------------------Found on a quick trip around Victoria to mop up all of the counties I was missing. Had my new swag so stayed in caravan parks so I could sleep while the car charged. Was at almost 100% charge every morning, and the nights camping cost about the same as a full charge at a supercharger anyway.
A bit of scrambling, a bit of searching, but right when I thought we'd lucked out.....there we go! tftc
I walked right past it! Found it on my second load op around. And with that. Complete the Ausmer challenge. Thanks for maintaining this old cache. I AM GUR THE SKITZ CACHER
I was caching in the Grampians and noticed this Golden Oldie so I short diversion south. It was a bit wet to-day and was not looking forward to pushing through the bush. Fortunately there were lots of open foot pads to the cache. Took a while to spot but once I had expanded the search area quickly spotted. Great views around the park so well worth the visit. TFTC.
Today we headed from Port Fairy to Warrnambool. Along the way we called into this park to collect a few caches. I mean how could I pass up a 2001 Alex cache? Legend .Took a little while to locate once we got around the crater. We had a brilliant walk and very happy to have found this golden oldie. Thanks for the cache Alex, hope all is great in your world.
scramping & I were visiting to Warrnambool for a long weekend. We met up with Chook (ChooknChunk) at Koroit for lunch before heading over to Tower Hill. Visiting Tower Hill has been on my to-do-list for quite some time. I have driven past many times but never stopped. I don't know why, maybe time constraints. It is such a beautiful place and with the added bonus of a couple of caches to find here. After some deliberation of the route to follow, we took the less steep one to this cache. It was a bit longer but we saw some awesome natural beauty. Once we reached the spot in the track where we needed to go down to the cache, this was a bit of a challenge. Cache located and signed. We found an easier way back to the track. Isn't that always the way.We took the steeper, quicker way back to the carpark as our time was beginning to creep away from us.Thanks for placing this cache for us way back along time ago, alex.
Found with hevwalker and Chooknchunk today after a beautiful walk...up...up,...up.....you get the idea...lol. Chooknchunk had come to join us during our 4 day Warrnambool holiday, we had met a Koroit and grabbed a lab cache and a bit to eat. After doing a few caches here at Tower Hill we had all had this one very special golden oldie on our bucket list. We checked out the terrain map on the app and decided on trail we would take to reach GZ. WOW what amazing views. We neared GZ and as usual took the long trails to the cache, expanding our search as we couldn't zero the gps on the physical container straight away. It wasn't long and we were very excited to have the cache in hand. Thankyou so much for keeping this oldie in such great condition and staying on the game board. FAV Point from me
Chook was on an overnight roadtrip to Warrnambool for an event and to catch up with friends - Hevwalker and Scramping. We met up for lunch and labs at Koroit and then made our way here to spend the afternoon at Tower Hill. This was a must-do cache for the three of us, being an August 2001 for our Jasmer grids. It was a beautiful warm spring day and we thoroughly enjoyed our walk here. We walked in via the low track and after finding the cache, completed the loop from the top. All is good with cache and contents at GZ. Thank you Alex for the cache and for keeping this golden oldie going at such an amazing location.
A long way of track though decent vegetation. Tried my best to not disturb it too much. Tftc
On our visit at the volcano crater, we also found this one. Just while visiting some Emus and Koalas. Beautiful views and great for still having such old caches like this one around. Hopefully, it'll last some more decades!
This is probably my oldest cache I have logged so far. Found on the way down to the Great Ocean Road in the lovely area of the Tower Hill Lake. Beautiful nature and animals!
When reaching the GZ, I initially couldnt see where the cache was due to dense vegetation nearby. Realising that it was such an old cache, I was determined to find it. After venturing through fallen branches and waited for the GPS to settle down, I finally spotted it from a different angle, thanks to its size!
Magical walk magical place walked down from the very top carpark then from other cache walked to this one only occasionally losing the trail. Saw emus and Kangaroos ..coming in from a random animal track i managed to spot this cache before my GPS settled. I only realised after signing that this is a golden oldie cache. Very much worthy of a favourite point.
The snuggle muggle and I decided to make the most of the warm weather this weekend by taking a road trip along the [Great Ocean Road](https://visitgreatoceanroad.org.au/) ultimately ending up in [Warrnambool](https://visitwarrnambool.com.au/), stopping mostly for Virtuals, Earthcaches, and Oldies along the way. This one was our last stop on Day 2 of our weekend road trip before we started making our way back to Melbourne. This one has been on my list to find for awhile, and I knew if I was ever in the area that I had to atleast attempt to try and find this one. Not only did it fill in one of my missing months for my [Jasmer](https://www.geocaching.com/blog/2018/10/the-jasmer-challenge/), but finding a 2001 cache is finding a relic of caching history! The area was absolutely beautiful. We could not believe how stunning the drive into the park was and our photos did not do it justice. We ended up parking at the nearest parking lot and when we arrived we only saw a few muggles out and about. So we quickly looked at the map , picked our route and headed up the path.Within probably about 100m of walking we ended up seeing our first bit of wildlife, an emu! This was actually the first time I had ever seen an emu in the wild, we ended up watching it for quite some time before we reminded ourselves that we had a cache to find!So we continued our way up the hills and enjoyed the beauty of this place every step of the way. Once we arrived within about 50m or so we left the main path and picked our route carefully trying to avoid the vegetation.Unfortunately my phone decided at this moment it did not want to work, and it would not home in at all. GZ was bouncing all over the place and this one took so way longer than it should have, as I just continued to bounce back and forth looking all over the place for this cache.I eventually reached out to a few other previous finders to see if they could remember anything about it's hiding location. Of course, as soon as I did that I turned around and immediately spotted the cache.*Oh well!*I was immediately overwhelmed with joy finding this one! It is always fun to find a cache, but it is truely such an amazing feeling to be able to find a cache that is 20+ years old and just get an insight into what caching was like back then. The location alone would have earned this cache a favourite point from me, but keeping a cache alive for 20+ years definitely does! I am unfortunately all out of favourite points and am on a bit of a backlog when it comes to favourite points, but when I earn another one I will be sure to come back and give this cache a well deserved one!I have left my favourite point pathtag insde the cache for the [CO](https://www.geocaching.com/p/?guid=62e05bf6-6834-42d0-ae9c-a4d85c697d88&wid=2f70bb29-6194-4dfb-822e-6518c99d2d4a&ds=2) or next finder.A huge thanks goes to [Alex](https://www.geocaching.com/p/?guid=62e05bf6-6834-42d0-ae9c-a4d85c697d88&wid=2f70bb29-6194-4dfb-822e-6518c99d2d4a&ds=2) for maintaining this cache for all these years! It was amazing to find this relic of caching history. TFTC.**Cache Maintenance Status**The cache container was in great shape and the logbook was clean and dry with plenty of room for future cache finders to sign.
Found it hiding in plain sight after fumbling around for quite some time
Thank you.
Great cache

In Koroit for a few days visiting friends. 1st time going into Tower Hill. Wow. What a busy wee hub!! Thankfully we left all the peoples behind as we headed up the track. What a fabulous walk & so, so peaceful. Even the roos & wallabies were chilled about us passing so close. My GPS was bouncing around around again with 4 different locations given as GZ. We eventually found it unaided (my mugglefriend had asked previous finders for a clue) Many thanks for keeping this golden oldie in the game
On a wet and cold day we set of to grab a couple of caches, the sky’s cleared and we made it to the GZ, emus, wallaby’s and koalas all watching our adventure, we signed the log and made it back to the car before the next down pour, thanks for placing this cache and the interesting walk
TFTC on a visit from Tassie
Shame to see this place in such a state of disrepair, seems like more of a haven for noxious and invasive pests and weeds rather than an oasis for native wildlife ️

Catching up with some late logs. This was found while staying in the area.
After fighting off the emu's while we had lunch we set off on this walk. There were some great views and really enjoyed exploring the area.
Arrived at GZ and took a bit to finally make this find but happy to sign this oldie, so given a fav.
Thanks alex for placing this cache and doing the maintenance, so we can enjoy finding it.

Thanks for the great bit of excercise to this old cache. Well done for keeping it alive. A favourite from me.
After searching for a while and trying to find some clues in the comments, we were with our hands in our hair. Eventually my mom found a picture from 2017 that made us try again at the same spot we've already been searching for forever. Then she decided to walk up and spotted it immediately. Silly us were searching at every little spot, except where we eventually found it. We walked right past it in the beginning!!
Glad that we don't have to walk back with empty hands and found such an oldie, we eat a cookie to celebrate.
Tftc!

After walking around Griffiths Island this morning, we arrived at Tower Hill just after noon. Let's have lunch first, but that's a challenge with the emus haha. During lunch we discuss which route we are going to do. One of 30 minutes, because we are still driving to Halls Gap. Then our eye falls in the geocaching app on this mega old cache. All plans immediately go overboard!!! Let's do this!!!
We do not regret it, because it is beautiful here on the edge of the volcano. It really appeals to the imagination and we take a lot of pictures.
Then it is finally time to find the cache and daughter Hippie03 leads the way. It is really difficult to find the cache. We search and search and wifey hatred at the end of her wits, looks for a hint in logs. In 2017 she comes across a photo that puts us on the right track and when she walks up, she finally sees the cache and it is in plain sight. How could we not have seen it??? Completely happy we write and stamp our name in the logbook and leave our own TB from the Netherlands and a favorite. TfTC for keeping and maintaining this oldie

Wow what an oldie! Have wanted to come here for some time so it was great to check this place out. An enjoyable walk up down and around. Lots of walking tracks to do here and kids loved the koalas. Thanks for the cache here.

Another day on the Great Ocean Road and up to the Grampians
The weather was cold, windy and wet. We deceided that we go to an old cache, Towering Inferno. After a short walk to a nice area, we found the cache after 15 minutes searching.
Then we did some other caches on our way to the Grampians.
We often log with our initals TGM (Team_Geo-Meijer)
Greetings from the Netherlands.
alex hartelijk dank voor het leggen en onderhouden van deze cache.
Groetjes,

What a wonderful place for this Hide. The walk is extremely beautiful, and the scenery and shady trees are outstanding.
There was so much birdlife along the Trail today.
We took our time to explore quite a few trails in this area, and look at the geology of past volcanic life.
Log signed.
Thanks Alex. An awesome adventure.

Day 4 and it was the last day of my road trip through the south west of Victoria... time to head home to Melbourne... but not without finding lots of caches along the way. But that nearly didn't happen... *geocaching.com* shut down for maintenance in the morning... and it was only by good luck that I had a collection of caches stored off-line.
The modified plan for the morning was to find enough caches in Moyne Shire tick it off for the *12 Circuits of Victoria Challenge*... and then another 8 caches to tick it off for the *WCW - The 80/20 Rule Challenge*.
No caching visit to Tower Hill would be complete without visiting this very early cache. When I reached the lip of the Last Volcano Crater, I turned left and walked to whole way around... thoroughly recommended. Found the cache with a little effort...
Thanks **Alex** for the cache... and for keeping it going for over 20 years.

Found on our travels through the area, heading from Portland to Warrnambool today. After a bit of a hike and bush bash, made it to GZ. Searched around for 15mins with no luck even after expanding the search. Sat down to catch my breathe and spotted the cache just over there. Happy to add our name to the logbook. Lid no longer locks as per previous logs. Cheers for keeping this oldie alive.
Find #5183 on 1 Feb 2023.

Almost gave up before finally stumbling on the cache! A bit scratched up, but happy!
27 December 2022 8:13 am, nice hike before the heat of the day. Looking forward to the walk down the hill. TfTC
Found 27 December 2022 @ 8:14 am with Scubacapers.
Quick find here for us today with the most strenuous park being the walk from the car park!
Ammo tin lidbuckle thing is broken meaninging tin can't be closed. Probably be ok through summer but no good in the wet.
Thanks alex for the walk.

Three kangaroos were grazing on the path that leads to the cache. Didn’t want to bother them.

After a big stretch on the road, we were finally homeward bound. An oldie I had been eyeing off for quite some time! Great to see a classic out here in the wilderness. Thanks for the cache Alex - favourite point added.

We had enjoyed a restful few days at Yambuck Lake and now we were heading home with the geomobiles packed and the geodogs Gypsy Girl, Teeny Treek and Mini Michi all nice and tired after their run on the beach.
The weather looked like it was going to be rainy all day and we wanted to pick up some caches on the trip home.
With roadworks leading up to the entry and a sign saying that Tower Hill will be closed (we assume for roadworks) from tomorrow we grabbed the opportunity to do some bushwalking in the cool drizzly weather.
This one was the main reason we stopped here today. The 13th oldest active cache in Victoria.
It was the longest walk of the day and we enjoyed the scenery and the wonderful work that has been done to revegetate this amazing place. We had recently seen a show on the ABC which featured the Eugene von Guérard painting of this area that was used as a blueprint for the revegetation efforts.
thank you Alex for hiding and maintaining this cache for such a long period of time.

We've been enjoying our stay in Port Fairy but it was finally time to head back up to Geelong. We enjoyed all the brilliant walking tracks here and had to add this old one to our find list. We nearly had to give up on this one however as we trudged back up the hill we spotted the cache. GZ was some way off where we'd been searching but we were glad with the find either way. Thanks for keeping up this old hide Alex
Day 2 of road trip to Adelaide with gwd.aussie. This cache was on both our list due to its age so we headed off for the walk round the rim and scramble down to the cache. Cache found by gwd.aussie - we has walked right passed but noticed by gwd.aussie when he turned around. Back to the carpark for a cuppa and watched the poor emus being chased by children with sticks.
Thanks Alex for maintaining such an old cache and for bringing me to the area.

Coming to Warrnambool, the old Volcano Crator at Tower Hill caught my fancy. It certainly looking interesting and when 999Huntress also commented on it it was a done deal. Wanted to get here earlier before it was too hot, but that wasn't to be and after 11.30 on a hot Sunday it was.
We strolled around the "Last Volcano" loop trail and actually enjoyed the uphill sections because it meant another breeze was coming and we always stopped to enjoy it for a minute. Glad 999HK was with me as she found this pretty quickly once I eventually guided us to the correct GZ, and was looking way to far away. Signed at 1.30 pm, and another oldie off the list.
Thanks for the cache Alex

Wow nearly gave up! Turning around we spied it! Love the sound of the frogs and birds. Tftc
Picked this up as part of my tour of Tower Hill. The notes are correct when the state this is a air way off the main track. The hide seemed to be a at least 5m off from where the GPS was pointing. Happily the cache itself was simply sitting under a tree and not to hard to spot once the search area was expanded.
Thanks for bringing me here.

Day #2 of the adventure in Western Victoria. We are now on the 9th iteration of this trip after adding a diversion to Peterborough to meet a UBD challenge. Previous iterations including Millicent, no Millicent, Millicent and no Millicent again thanks to the archaic border rules. Today we are exploring Peterborough and Warrnambool before arriving in Portland for a few days.
I have had this old cache on my radar for some time to fill a gap in my AUSMER grid. Today was finally the day. After leaving Warrnambool late, we stopped in here and I raced up the hill. Ok… so it was more of a meander. As I almost reached the top, I came around the corner to find a turtle sunning itself. It soon went into protection mode and I snuck on by. I headed to GZ and found the cache sitting out in the open. My GPS today suggested it was about 10m SE of the posted coords. I moved it closer towards the nearby bush to afford it a little bit more camo.
Thanks for maintaining this cache for so long.
Thanks alex for placing this gamepiece in the wild for us to find.

Someone told us, that here you can find Koalas in wildlife. And today we've been lucky and have seen our first koala in wildlife. We have seen many at sanctuaries but in wildlife never.
And as we've been here anyway we searched for this old cache.
The lid of the ammobox isn't OK anymore but the logbook was dry.

From mountains to the sea - a fab trip finally realised to superb destinations a long way from home. First view is amazing and I love the local volcanic GEOLOGY. And to top it off a brisk walk up the hill during a sunny window in between rainy low pressure weather systems is a bonus. An incentive of course is the impressive 01 number and what it may have been like way back then to place caches. Ammo can in need of replacement or repair though. TFTC the fun and maintenance! Surely deserves a fave for longevity.
We have been to Tower Hill before, but today we were determined to find your older cache to fill in a missing piece in our caching stats. It was threatening rain but fortunately we were able to enjoy the walking tracks and find your cache. We feel grateful to be exploring regional Victoria and enjoying some caching time.
Thank you for your cache and adding to our road trip memories.

After lunch, drove over to Tower Hill and headed up to this geocache and found it, before rambling around down a quiet almost forgotten trail, and then along the lake to the lava tongue boardwalk and thus back. Saw lots of beautiful wattles in flower, a good few emus and a koala, but no snakes this time... thanks for the cache.
Thankfully the rain had stopped long enough to make the trek from the car park to this cache. And we had certainly warmed up by the time we reached gz. A bit of searching the overgrown area and we eventually located the prize. Nice hide TFTC
Great hiding spot amazing views just be careful there were some spiders inside the cache
Thank you for this cache, such a beautiful spot to visit, and a cool hide and cache .

An extended weekend away with +Wife.
Caching through Warrnambool, Portland and sneaking over the border to Port MacDonnell.
We visited Tower Hill today after our events. The last time we were here our eldest boy was in primary school.
Met up with surefoot24 and The_EVIL_MUGGLE for a few finds today.
This was the ultimate find for the day. There was no chance we were coming out here without taking the time and effort to find this venerable old cache as it approaches it's 20th Anniversary. We took our time wandering up here, birdwatching, checking out the lakes, caves and wildlife. After finding the cache and returning to the trail we chatted with a couple of muggles for a spell before setting off back down to the car park.
Thanks for a most memorable experience Alex.
Added another well deserved favorite point.

I’ve had my eye on this cache for quite a while for a couple of reasons. Firstly it’s in my beloved Tower Hill. Secondly it’s now 20 years old and one of the eldest in Australia. Thirdly, OK that makes it more than a couple of reasons, it would challenge my body’s ability to do such a cache. Luckily n0w0rries was keen to do it too, so even The_Evil_Muggle decided to join us, a very rare event. Usually he sits in the car while I do the longer walks, with a caching friend if possible.
I had done my research and had discovered an easier route than the most obvious one. Thank goodness for the contour lines on the maps in the app! We enjoyed the walk, taking our time allowing those needing to rest frequently, like me, finding ways around obstacles over the path blown over in last night’s storm, admiring the view, birdwatching, etc. Even the last section: bushbashing into GZ was achievable by all of us by taking it carefully and we were rewarded by a relatively quick find. I wish I’d remembered to take in a spare plastic bag to protect the log. The lid of the ammo can is damaged beyond repair, but that can be replaced so someone would only need to bring a new lid to make it secure again. We were able to leave our marks on the log and were impressed with the contents, especially the old logs still in the cache. A favourite point will be awarded to this cache’s tally. Thanks for a wonderful experience and cache!

Enjoying a kid free caching week in Warrnambool we headed across to Port Fairy and made a stop here to explore the area and find some caches. Well worth the visit. We enjoyed the hike, even through the drizzling rain that came and went. Despite careful watching GeoWife was dissapointed not to spot a koala. We did spot a few very casual emus, a we started a kangaroo and a fox having a stand off among the trees.
Reaching GZ it was a bit of a scramble in the wet, but we were able to quickly locate the cache. The ziplock bag inside the container is broken and the log is starting to get a bit damp.
Thanks for the adventure.

Came to Tower Hill for this cache, and had a great afternoon - three koalas, furry caterpillars, kangaroos, great views, and enough of a walk to make us feel like we’d done something. Cache was found quickly enough too. Thanks Alex
