Perth/Darwin TripA fun solve and determined to pick this cache up on our trip. We drove in as far as we could and wandered around looking for the termite mound. Found cache about 35m NE of my solved coords. Joolay and I are travelling to WA and NT to qualify for a challenge that requires you to find a cache in every Australian state in a calendar year. Thanks for hiding and maintaining this cache NTSTROM

A quick 5 day trip to Darwin included finding this cache. This is my first trip to the northern territory and is my final state / territory in Australia to visit. The weather was certainly different to Tasmania. It is great to explore another part of Australia. Thank you NTSTROM for hiding and maintaining this cache. Found on 8 October 2024 at 12:46PM. This cache was my find number 11626Thanks for the cache

OCW PelDroedGwin and geodog Peppa Staying in Humpty Doo for a couple of weeks, the D rating on this one made it a must solve for me..I got close enough for the checker to be happy. At GZ I was a little concerned that the recent burn may have impacted the cache but its safely tucked away, sheltered from the flames. Tftc

Area was all overgrown so had to bush bashing through as could not see any tracks and we are in a hire car. Cache found around 38m out for me. Good hint though helped.

We are staying in Darwin for a couple of weeks with family and finding a cache a day for a streak challenge. I solved a number of puzzles before arriving including this one so today I chose a few caches in the Palmerston area before heading to this one. The road was quite busy so stopping and getting off the road was a bit tricky. We walked along a track towards gz, passing dumped rubbish, a wrecked car and a birds bower. I had noticed that previous finders said that the cache was out by about 30m NE. At first we searched for termite mounds but couldnt see too many in the long ish grass but once we headed NE, we soon saw the right mound and cache, about 38m NE from gz for me. Cache is in great condition. Tftc

Spent a couple of days figuring out how to solve this on my phone... with a bit of difficulty. Eventually got the bearings to cross but checker wasn't agreeing...after getting a little help from a previous finder, my coords were very close but not quite within 30m... made a quick find at gz thanks to the previous logs. #6881 @ 12:27:14 ACST

Today we’re heading from Darwin to Litchfield for a few days before continuing on to Kakadu then back to Darwin, and of course we have to grab some caches on the way!

This one was a quick solve, but not so much find. We read a previous log which said cache was about 30m out so I did a circle around GZ and soon found the destroyed cache… We signed the log then replaced the container with a new clip-lock box. All ready to go, attached a spoiler pic of the GZ inside an abandoned termite mound.

Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache NTSTROM

On the road again! Today we’re weaving our way to Litchfield, specifically looking for interesting DTs and 4’s particularly.
Found, eventually! 30min or so to the NE of our calculated spot. We replaced the melted container.
Thanks for hiding this cache!

Thanks for the cache NTSTROM bit off the beaten track (especially for our Mazda CX-3 ) but felt a real sense of achievement in getting this cache! BONUS TIP: We spotted an elaborate Bowerbird nest on the way out so there's an extra something to keep an eye out for

04-May-23
Someone nearly had a cross bearing here! Parked the hire car near the power line and walked in, past the wreck on the way in and before it on the way out. Took a while searching a radii of hills eventually finding the cache. The checker said within 100 feet, and I was about 30 m from calculated gz on the phone when found, which is just in! Left a spare page folded in the same bag, not in great condition but an interesting experience anyway. Thanks for the cache.

Driving down to Katherine today and detouring through Litchfield National park. A lot of the areas were closed off so made good time through the park TFTH

AngelG27 and I are finally in Darwin from Canberra for the weekend. This trip was originally booked for August 2020, so we are using up our travel credits. Today's focus was the two TE caches, cache types plus a couple more counties, then various D/T combinations. Managed to drive to about 70m of GZ. Cache soon found. Puzzle solved prior to our original anticipated trip. TFTC.

Cache 9917 on 26 Mar 2023.

Greetings from the ACT! TikvaNZ and I are finally in Darwin after our initial plan to travel to Darwin in May 2020 was thwarted by COVID 19 travel coming to a grinding halt! Just here for the weekend, so focusing on different types, counties and a few different DT combinations!

Today is picking up different types and a couple of extra counties out west. Then back to the airport at night for the overnight flight back to Sydney.

TikvaNZ alerted me to this puzzle, which I recognised immediately how to solve. There are great tools for this sort of conundrum these days. Happily for our mental and physical well being, we found a dirt track that lead us to within 70 metres of GZ. The 36 degrees and 90% humidity is no joke!

Thanks NTSTROM for the cache and the fun!

A little collection tour led us to this solved puzzle today.
The cachemobile was conveniently parked so that the way was not too far.
The hiding place did not require any searching, the log sheet was quickly signed!

Thanks NTSTROM for the puzzle fun, the laying and maintenance!

This was a puzzle that we solved well before heading to Darwin.
At the end of a day of exploring, we parked the car and took a walk into the bush.
Noting there have been fires around here in recent times, we came armed with a replacement if needed, however everything was intact and dry and will protected under the rock casing.
We have added our name to the log, and very happy to earn a smiley here.
Thanks for the puzzle and hide NTSTROM

TFTC. This was a great find on my last full day in Darwin. I stamped the log and returned the cache as found. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for us all to enjoy.

Solved at home and got to come out for it today. Finally the rain has stopped and caching has become fun again. Cache found relatively quickly but lid needs some attention. We had a wee bubble wrap poncho in the car that fit the container perfectly so hopefully it will stay dry for a while. Thank you for a fun cache

Just to let you know this cache was the reason we came to the NT for the weekend , well this was the first puzzle I started on, but never finished as my partner in crime whipped out her protractor, maps, sharp pencils & compass….AGAIN! muttering something about True North while shaking her head & wearing out the eraser. At least the finding was just as adventurous reading logs & disclaimer re “30 metres” we set off from the GZ & I Yelled BINGO after a couple of minutes .

After a busy day out exploring, we collected a few smileys on the way home. As part of our planning for Darwin we solved a most of the puzzles giving us the upper hand while here. Happy to say we came up trumps and walked away with a smiley. TFTC
Unfortunately we didn’t have a new lid with us, so still needs one

After months of waiting for the rain to clear and the burn off to happen, we made our way out to find the cache. Trickiest one I’ve found. Previous comments helpful.

Solved this last night after having looked at it some years ago when I first visited. Took the drive out today and hubby took the car in along the track and then the search began in the long grass. It took us about 20 minutes to find what matched the hint and as other mentioned I used a wide circle to find it. Happy to sign the log. The next finder may which to bring a new little container as this one has seen better days. Including a pic of my name in the log.

It was a little bit of working until we had the right coordinates.
Then we could go and find it.

Well after 2 previous DNF’s today I wasn’t in the best mood. So being in the area, I was keen to get a FIND and having solved this puzzle a few days ago, a little more of a drive allowed me to tick this one off.
I had to do some number crunching and use all my fingers and toes, but the GeoChecker had me with success and within 30m of GZ on my calculations.
So it was up to me to get to GZ and find it.
I needed the extra 30m I reckon as I wasn’t spot on, but having the hint certainly narrowed down the hunt.

Next finder, please bring a new lid (from a Coke bottle or water bottle) as the lid is starting to deteriorate and may not suit the wet season coming in a few months time.

24-Apr-20
Having worked out how to triangulate with crossbearing #1 and the aid of the handy C:geoapp, managed to work out co-ords with about an hours number crunching. Given the destination, very glad to have the geo-checker to corroborate.

After reading the previous posts, amazed that the calculated coordinates had me within 6m of GZ!!! The container is now a small plastic vial but it is well marked with rocks and the hint still applies. Might be easier when the long wet season grass has given way to the lower dry season growth. Tough going this time of year.

Before we head South I had this one on my radar. A few years ago I failed to solve this one, and it's twin, due to lack of skill/technology. Fast forward 7 years and I had the know-how and a conversation with the last finder reassured me I had the solution right too. Parked safely and headed across the sooty environment and started searching. Continuing to widen my search resulted in the cache being located 41 metres from my possible BZ, close enough and nicely concealed. Replaced as found and a jog back to mrs in the car. T F T C NTSTROM.

On the road down to Katherine for a couple of days, and caches, and the scenery is awesome. Whilst down there we headed in via Litchfield and managed to snag an awesome 5 Earthcaches - yay. Also did the boar cruise, an awesome meal at the RSL and a good couple of days road trip.

We're in Darwin after our few days way out West and rather than slim pickings (geocache-wise) there's a feast of finds up for grabs. As it turned out we found a modest amount of finds and just picked at a few here and there rather than the gluttonous frenzy last time I visited in 2012. We were initially staying in the Alatai but that lasted one night before we moved to better digs on Mitchell - wise choice.

It's that time of year at last when we're heading off on a 2 week break to Australia. We're travelling in 2 distinct phases; see our son and his family in Broome for 5 nights then up to Darwin and NT for a 6 night break before heading back to NZ for Winter, brrrr. There were not many Broome caches to be found as we had visited in September 2016, but there were a couple of newbies available and a revisit to some previously enjoyed sights and sites. A great break and good to get some mid-year sun to recharge the batteries. Main focus was Earthcaches and any collateral solved/qualified for Puzzles and Challenges as well as a friendly Event in Darwin on our first night in town. A good trip all round and nice time was had.

A great cache. First log in the log book for just over a year, though I see the cache has been logged online more recently than that.

After our Parisian trip in the first week of the Easter holidays, we (i and my husband Voske1967) went for 3 weeks to the other side of the world to enjoy the friendly atmosphere, food, landscapes and culture of Australia. Of course, geocaches were also searched for and found in Perth, Monkey Mia, Denham, Newman, Port Hedland, Darwin, ... . This trip downunder will stay with us for a long time! It was pretty hot in Australia for the autumn season

Quickly solved the puzzle at home. Visiting Darwin for work this week and having a drive around this afternoon. Needed this one to fill a space in my D/T grid. As others found the container 36m away from the coordinates. But the recent fire meant it wasn't too hard to spot.

Now visiting Darwin after the Red Centre Experience. Razz

Mr Felix headed out to Gunn Point with Tassie Trekkers this morning then after lunch we headed out to pick off a few more caches to be converted into smilies, well that was the plan at least. Wink

We successfully found your cache, thanks to Mr Felix solving this puzzle last month. Took longer to find than we expected and as others have mentioned our coords were 27metres away from our solved coords. [B)]

Darwin Day 10
After visiting the wharf for tea a couple of times & noticing all the lights accross the water , today we went for a drive to discover the area.
If geono thought it was tough. I walked the 300m from the road through the long grass to GZ. Hunted around for awhile without luck. I then noticed the dirt road that ran close by. Geohubby drove the car back along this road & the search started again. With the aid of the hint we were able to locate the cache.
A puzzle worthy of its rating.
Thanks for placing this cache NTSTROM

We had this solved before we arrived in Darwin so it was our first stop - partly because we didn't know how long it would take to find! We spread out like commandos to comb the area. Thought we had an ideal GZ and apart from not having the cache it was. Back in formation and it was MrG's line of attack that resulted in a 'here!!!' But the grass was so long it took MrsG another search to locate where the 'here' came from. Phew, what a relief! all that long grass bashing is exhausting! Great to eventually claim a find. Found it!! After figuring out the correct coords the other night the GF and I thought we'd head out to nab it Smile it was Kym's Adventures Birthday today so it was a good opportunity to nab a D5 to get a stamp for the road trip 15 comp. after arriving at GZ we knew the cache was around 30m from our coords so we picked out places we thought a hide might be. It took The GF about 10 minutes to find the cache and then yell out to me that she had found it! What a pretty area after a bush fire! Will post a photo that we took while we were there Smile TFTC

Buoyed with the confidence that it had been recently found I set out to collect this one as well as a souvenir. My coords were +/- 37m out so no wonder I didn't find it last time. I was also astounded that I got reception out here so was able to dial in and get the clue which certainly helped together with the area being burnt out recently making the area clear of vegetation. Thanks to the Lumpys and Oyseka's for replacing the cache as it's a good puzzle to work out.

This year we have a long winter holiday when we are travelling in the Pacific. We are doing sightseeing and geocaching. Now we will spend a six week period in Australia where we will drive from Melbourne to Murray Bridge and then via Grampians to Canberra, Sidney and Brisbane. After that we will visit Darwin a few days before leaving Australia.

First day in Darwin and it did not rain as we had read in the weatherforcact. We took our small rental car for some caching. We had solved some puzzles the latest few days and now we wanted to log. After a while it started to rain and we had no raincoats and no umbrellas. We was not far away from this cache so we decided to go for it in the rain. After 10 meters we was totally wet. But we got on walking and finally we was at GZ and could find the cache. Logbook was wet already before we signed it.

Thanks for the puzzle and the cache. Greetings from Sweden / Geparderna

We worked on the puzzle before arriving in Darwin for a week of caching with richlink. A we were due to fly out until 2pm, we made and early start in order to earn a few more smilies before leaving town. Thanks NYSTROM for a good puzzle.

Worked out the co-ordinates for this one, and had them confirmed by a new local friend.
A short walk into the bush, and the cache was found.
Thanks for the cache, NTSTROM.

Another wonderful day in Darwin. The cache raid today was particularly targeted at this cache as we had solved the puzzle some time ago.

The cache has suffered from UV degradation, and was severely cracked. We had a container in the car so we made the repair and restored the cache.

We are really happy to report that our calculations put GZ within 3 metres of the hide. Smile

Coordinate Accuracy: Excellent (Around 3 metres).
Cache Condition: Container and log book are in good shape.
Took: Nothing.

Mrs TiedyeSmilieys made mince meat of the puzzle, I guess being super puzzle solver is just the cross she has to bear Smile.
If only her transcribing skills were up to the same standards we would have found this cache months ago. One fat fingered entry on the GPSr of one digit had us kilometers off the mark back then.
A recheck of all the details soon uncovered the error but it took us until now when we returned to the area to find the cache (which survived the recent fire nicely).

08-Jul-12
Well work gave us the chance (orders) to go to Darwin so we could not pass up the opportunity to grab a few caches on the trip. We did a scan to see what caches were available and where. We spotted one difficulty terrain combo we needed so just had to get it. Only problem was it was Difficulty 5 and we did not have much time to solve it. The cache was Cross Bearing #2. We did a bit of research and then came up with a number the geochecker said was in the zone. A little more refinement and exploring the boundaries and we soon had a set of numbers geo checker said was spot on.

We also spotted some other Difficulty 5 caches we thought we could solve with a bit of work as we had the machine and we had done some before. This would make it potentially 3 difficulty 5 caches in a row. These caches were Darwin Enigma Challenge and Operation Enigma Challenge #2. As we had run out of time at home we cranked up the machine on the plane set to work to decipher. The first one fell out without not too much head scratching with a set of believable numbers. The second one required some more work. We had done something similar in WA but this had a couple of differences plus a bit of a twist at the end. After a few goes we turned our grabbled out put in to the correct orders with a set of believable numbers.

Once on the ground we head straight for Darwin Enigma Challenge. We found the side track and then with only 20m to the cache we baulked a little to get through the unknown long grass. Once at GZ it was a quick find after removing some cache guardian bugs. We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC

We plugged in the co-ords for Operation Enigma Challenge #2 and headed off down an unsealed road. We got to a channel crossing and although we had a hire car we didn't thing it would make it. Back to the sealed road we went and after a short drive we parked about 90m from the cache. The scrub was light and we hear some noise about 200m away which turned out to be someone burning off. We could see GZ and it had plenty of hiding options. We let the GPSr settle and eyed over the situation without rushing in. We then slowly walked around and found the hide for something that looked not quiet right. We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC

With 2 D 5's already under our belt for today it was time for the third so we headed south east for Cross Bearing #2. We got close on the sealed roads and could see the unsealed track we needed to take but with all the grading could not find a way across for a 2WD. A little check and we found the ground hard enough and soon had the car at the track. We dodged a few fallen trees and found an old car before taking a short walk over to GZ. We spotted the hide and the cache but got not get in out. It appears 6 months without a find has let the termite mud settle and stick like concrete to the level of the cache lid. We manage to free it but the plastic is starting to look a little brittle. We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC

On the way back to town we realised Test Tube Baby John was a short detour for a drive by. We parked next to GZ and saw another car with a geocaching sticker but no cachers in sight. We soon spotted the hide and realised some tools or improvisation was required. We tried a few natural items but no result. We then found a pink coat hanger that looked like it had been used to get into a car. We modified the end and after a few goes extracted the cache. On closer examination of the cache its lifting line was broken which explained the difficult extraction. We completed the signing duties and re hid. We tried to create a small loop at the top for better access next time. TFTC.

Getting the correct co-ords for GZ was a real challenge, but once that was achieved it was a quick and easy find... especially as a grass fire had been through recently, making the area extremely easy to traverse. My solution had me 36 metres from my plot of GZ. 150 iterations to record the position of the glittering (???) prize. Smile

The plastic systema container survived absolutely unscathed, thank goodness. The Milo tin has long perished, completely.

Interesting that it's nearly 12 months since the last find. TFTC and the challenge. TNLN.

Found it on the third attempt and a very generous hint from Steve - Thanks.
The challenge is made more difficult by the fact that to get the right answer is not straight forward.
I got to 55m away. (The cache is definitely not in a Milo Tin.)

Had to bite the bullet and try this one. A mass of lines drawn on a map had me in an area of about 1 square Km. Knowing how far away it was from another cache location and that it was off a track narrowed the search area down a bit. Then it was time to search every likely mound in the vicinity. Took 45 minutes but eventually found it. Glad to rid this one from my still to find list. TFTC NTSTROM.

Nothing like an early morning detour enroute to doing the shopping - all done and dusted in true Mrs KerrNT style by 7am. Smile The sunrise over the Elizabeth River on the way was pretty special - bugger I left the camera behind. Sad My co-ords had me with 16m of the cache. Cache had taken on a bit of water, so out with the trusty cache first aid kit to give it a good dry and rebag the goodies. Thanks to NTSTROM - I really enjoyed the Cross Bearing series Big Grin and should be onto them earlier now I have worked out how to get the line on the map to stay there![:i]

My first thoughts were that there are a lot of places the cache could be hidden in, a lot of things the same as each other. But did a search around and found it. Good spot, enjoyed the challenge of some map work.

Found at 1400 after a small search of the area. My cross coord's had me within 29m of the cache site but was still an easy find. Our second FTF in as many days. Some say you have to get up very early to get a FTF before Kerr NT these days. I say just don't go to work and they will come to you. I can not believe I had driven past this site just this morning on our way to a couple of other cache sites. The lure of an other FTF was to much and had to go back and give it a go. Took Coin and left really cool glow sticks. Thanks NTSTROM for the Hunt.
