Im back visiting family in Darwin for a week and doing some geocaching every day. I was very keen to find this oldie so parked at Hodgson Drive and took the inland track towards gz with the plan of heading cross country for the last 100m to it but all I could see was long dry grass. I was only wearing hiking sandals. Plan B was to come in from the other side so I walked in a big semicircle along tracks only to see more higher grass. I noticed a rocky ridge on the satellite map, so I decided to take that way as it was slightly clearer until about 50m from gz. Right, it was either give up or take the plunge through the grass, hoping there werent any nasties in it. I made my way, trying to take the easiest way which was also longer. I eventually got to a mostly open rocky area. I searched for about half an hour, under all the rocks that I could see. I was almost thinking of giving up when I noticed a large rock hidden in the grass and then I saw the cache behind it. Happy dance. As it turned out, the Coordinates were pretty good - its just that I couldnt see anything because of the grass. I signed the logbook in the new container - all good here. Heading back, I decided to take that 100m stretch that I avoided before - it was no worse than what I had come through. It was certainly an adventure. I did have a go at finding Poo Pond but decided 350m from it, that Id rather not do it on my own or in sandals. But certainly glad to find this one. Tftc
I realised I needed a cache hidden on 17/12 to complete my Date Hidden grid, and I was glad to see this historic cache in the area. I did a few of Gibbo's caches when I was up here in 2009, so this was a quite significant find.
Thanks for maintaining it!

Travelling with richlink on a trip from Perth to Darwin and return through the centre to SA and home again. It's a wee bit warmer today, me thinks. The boys walked the walk and soon found the broken cache. After leaving a replacement, they continued to the nearby cache. Thanks KerrNT.
Travelling with iluvtrekking and a return visit for us both after ten years. Parked at the end of Hodgson Drive and walked the 500+ mts to make the find. The original container has been damaged so we left a smaller container and new log sheet within it. Thanks Kerr NT
While grandchilds enjoyed the Leanyer recreation area looked for this old Cache. Time for the yearly found
The PVC Pipe is damaged and there is no paper for a log inside, made a foto.
Thank's Kerr NT for laying and maintaining!

A little worse for wear after the most recent fire, now has some friendly inhabitants.
It survives! There was a large-ish fire that came through the scrub east of Muirhead and I figured I'd come check on this lonely cache and see if it had been claimed by the fires and needed an Archive log. Surprisingly, it lives for another season! It's only September, so there's still a few months left for someone to come by and do the annual log (this one doesn't count).
Time for the annual log! This cache was found once each year in 2019, 2018 and 2017 - so it's pretty much a tradition now. It had no finds in 2016 but 3 in 2015. It probably will only have the one visit again this year unless someone else pops by in the next 10 days!
This poor container is definitely worse for wear. When I got to it, the lid was off (it's partially melted and broken, so won't stay on), there was no log to speak of and there was pretty much nothing left of the previous contents.
I'm very tempted to get a fresh PVC pipe and do a spot of community maintenance - except that since this one gets so few visits it does not seem to be worth the effort. If Kerr NT is still active and messages me, I'm more than happy to put one together and drop it in here - but as far as I can tell, Kerr NT hasn't been active in nearly a decade. The CO would need to do a maintenance log to prevent the cache being archived. There's already a NM log from earlier.
However, at the time of visiting the grass was well grown (over knee height most of the way from the path and around GZ) so I would expect that when it dries out after the rains there will be another fire which will probably finish it off. I placed it deep down into its hiding spot in the rocks to try and let it live a little bit longer.

Have had my eye on this one for a long time but with the severity of fires this dry season wondered if there would be anything left to find.
Bit the bullet today & headed out into the wilderness. As expected the surrounding bush was badly burnt & the area around GZ was vey exposed. Could see the mountainous spectre of the Shoal Bay rubbish tip looming in the distance.
Surprisingly the cache was still there and had ecaped the worst of the blaze. Although the lid is somewhat melted and the integrity of the container has been compromised, it is largely intact. The log has seen one too many wet seasons so have put in a temporary log sheet. A favourite as I have been thinking about making this journey for a while! T4TC

I fly regularly over this area and could see there had been the seasonal burn off, so I thought I’d give this cache a go. Unfortunately for the dog and I the cache was not in the burn off zone so we had to do a little bit of bush bashing, but not too much. A little bit of a hunt and the cache was found. The log was beyond signatures so I took a photo instead. Little has changed since the last find. TFTC
Thought I would grab this one today while in the dry season. The fire that did the lid melt has made the cache rather exposed to the elements the log was a crumbling mess. The cache needs some TLC if it is to survive any longer
Today we explored Darwin and surrounds using geocaching as a guide. Mr "T" made the walk to GZ, cache lid had some heat damage and is not waterproof now.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.

Found with Babic family cache needs repair full of water emptied kids won't to go back to the car to much grass to hot dad
Have had this one on our list for awhile so very happy to finally tick it off the list. There has been a fire through here recently and although cache is ok it have sustained some damage and may no longer be waterproof..... Thanks Kerr NT for bringing us to a place we have never visited before.
Had a bit of spare time so decided to grab this one in my attempts to try and clear all the caches near home. A nice easy stroll to within 100m...and then a bit of a bush bash in...not so good with thongs though! TFTC
Can't believe I did not see any snakes. Glad I did this in the morning before it got too hot. TFTC.
This was a bit of an adventure, it was quit dark by the time we found the cache.
Mafiagrl was a trooper and was only slighty worried about getting lost in the scrub or murdered by the quad biker who we were sure was out after dark to bury a body.

By the time nk64 and I made it to this cache it was well after dark. I was slightly terrified and may have written some gibberish in the log book. Unique location, but definitely better done during daylight hours. Tftc

Now that took some finding ... Should if worn better shoes, blister grrrr. Must take water if heading out while the sun is high. Very humid today, grass is high TFTC
Took the dogs for a walk on our visit in Darwin with the family.
Fire had recently been through cache container has smallist hole (melted) unfortunately we didn't have our repair kits on us. Still in relatively good condition although a little musty smelling and some mould on the pages - good ole humid weather.
Thanks for the find.

A lovely coolish (for Darwin anyway ) overcast day, just great for a stroll in the bush. Got almost to GZ and then the track veered off. Backtracked to try another route in only to find that one veering off as well. Oh well, a bush bashing we shall go. Hoisted the geomutt underarm and headed off into the long grass. After a short search, soon found the cache with small hole in it. A soggy moldy mess in the bottom of the container. Stickered the log book and enjoyed the views.

A bit of a bush bash to find this one on a hot day. The PVC tube has been fire damaged and there is a small hole in it. As a result water has been getting in and there was about 1/2 cup of water in the bottom. I left the contents in the sun to dry out for a bit but not long enough to get it all dry unfortunately. T4TC.
Zip lock bag from WanderingAus is deteriorating a bit, think the ants might be getting in. If I can get back there will tape up the hole. GZ is a bit overgrown at the moment but wasn't wandering around in circles for that long. Great hide, TFTC
WanderingAus wandered by on day 82 of our annual Climatic Refugee trip, after dropping the WanderingMrs (aka SWMBO) at the stop for the free Casino Bus I had almost 6 hours of caching time available.
After stumbling at Waypoint two for GC16EYQ A Little Something Told Me by Groboz, leaving my phone on a picnic table in Charles Darwin National Park for an hour and actually finding it when I went back, then finding GC16A1J Chinese Educational Quickie by Beagle Team which for the first time ever wasn't full of muggles, I'd already had an interesting day. I then met gibbo003 there, and he gave me a limited edition Northern Territory Geocachers Uluru Geocoin, as an unnecessary thank you to me for carrying out some maintenance on caches around Darwin, and that really made my day - nice to catch up with gibbo003 too.
I still had over ninety minutes available, not enough time for another attempt at A Little Something Told Me, and not enough time for the five Holmes Jungle caches I was planning to visit, so I decided to tackle some of the "Has TBs" and "I will maintain" caches I'd loaded into TomTom.
After retrieving a TB from GC11XG1 Wet Buffalo by NTSTROM this cache was only 3.26 CroKs away and needed some maintenance, so it was next on the list.
I agree with Liz and Bruce, the container isn't too bad, only a small hole burnt through it, but I put the logbook into a new ziplock bag, replaced the rusty pencil sharpener, and dropped in a new pencil. I also dropped my WanderingAus' Uluru Geocoin, my WanderingAus Happy New Year 2008 Gold GC and my WanderingAus GeoMobile TB in for a visit before grabbing them back again.
Unfortunately Kerr NT is no longer in the game, but the cache is fine, so I hope the cache maintenance frogs don't can it for lack of action.

We found it a bit tricky to get the right road to near gz so resorted to reading the cache notes rather than using the navigator. From there is was a short walk to gz. Checked out the container and we had a replacement with us but it looked ok to us. TNLN. thanks Kerr NT
This cache was a lucky one... recent grass fires didn't incinerate the container - only burnt a small hole in it. The contents are safe - until the next rains!
Be careful how you screw on the lid... the heat of the fire has deformed the container and unless you are VERY careful to align the lid correctly, it will jam as it is screwed on, becoming almost impossible to get on properly or to remove for a second go (I know - it happened to me!).
Perhaps the next cacher could take about half a metre of duct tape for a quick repair job?
TFTC. TNLN

A recent grass fire has burnt a hole in the cache container and deformed the tube. Needs replacement/repairs before the wet.
Nice views and yes a hot walk but me and GeoJr battled the scrub and came out satisfied
Will come back again for this one as we were unable to find it on this occasion. Spear grass was extremely high.
G-Day we found this cache a long time ago as steve & ra and are a updating as a team thanks Black Flag.
Found by Mr NTBBBB. A quick daytime hunt for Darwin caches that may become difficult to access in the wet. A good walk on a hot afternoon, Just remember future seekers, the listed 500 metres is a straight line distance . Dropped off my BBBB TB and NT GC before grabbing them back again.

WanderingAus wandered by on day 38 of a "climatic refugee" trip, and after a bit of bush bashing (due to not reading the cache notes[:o)]) made a very quick and easy GAFF 1 find. I expected it to be a tricky hide like many of Gibbo's, not a Gibbo type container in plain view.
My find No 1543, LCC, TNLNSL, dropped my WanderingAus Happy New Year 2008 Gold GC in for a visit before grabbing it back again.

GPSr ran ou of batteries en route and tried to guess location as only 100 metres or so away--no luck and did not return as intended.
Found the cache at 4.35pm. Enjoyed walk along to the cache... Have a good fun - love bushland. No swap. SL. Thanks Kerr NT for organising the cache and hunt.
Well we had plently of time to ponder on the marvelous achievement of Gibbo finding 100 NT caches because we seemed to walk for a long time. Gosh (LordFury was it) what a cache to start with. Left a monkey for a bookmark and left a pack of cards for a car. TFTC
Nice Cache. Was my first Geocache, and was a nice way to start - being both in a note-able location yet still well hidden and protected, labelled and even with instructions inside for the novice. A good number of trinkets in there, although I didn't take anything as (being new to this) i had nothing to replace it with.
Thanks for the Cache

A nice walk throught the scrub, did wonder what that was in the distance that looks like a very large sandhill. T keyring L car. TFTC
Found on a morning walk with my canine friend @ 0800. Circled GZ before taking a more direct route. Once at GZ had cache in hand quickly. Great container/hide and not bad views either. Unfortunately they start work at the dump early and this ruined the tranquillity.

Lovely view. Certainly one thing – the vegetation and views around here are just so different to Canberra! I love it! Nice easy find. Managed to get back just before the storm kicked in! Also – these are my favourite Darwin containers! Nice and large, and watertight! Thanks Kerr NT!
It was a bit warm for a walk in country, but it was worth it for the cache. Good cache

100 for Gibbo hey. I timed this one to celebrate my ****250th**** Geocache find (time to add another star to my GCA profile)
The view is almost like a minnie Kakadu if it wasn't for the dump on the horizon. TNLN. TFTC and the opportunity to reach a quarter of a thousand cache finds!

The 'Strom' had a rest up today while I swapped it for the trusty pushy. Was going to wait till the cool of the late afternoon to do this one, but I decided to go in the heat during the middle of the day. Nice easy ride out to the cache location. Typical 'Gibbo' cache contianer with his 'Trademark Pending' on the cache! As the Wild Man of Borneo struck again in the middle of the night I have to be content with a silver for this one. Top cache in a top location which proved to be an easy find as the coords were spot on by my GPS. Thanks to KerrNT. I will have to get a RAM mount for the pushy one day!

First off I would like to thank KerrNT for this cache. Yes I have reached my 100th NT find. A milestone I wouldn't have been able to reach without the great help of 6 of the best NT cachers around, KerrNT being one of them. In a little over 4 months they have been able to multiply the caches in Darwin and Katherine to a point now the top end can be proud of the number and quality of their caches. So that said, Found at 23:30 on the 17th December 2007 for a well deserved FTF. The cache was posted at 22:30 so a decision had to be made go now or in the morning, Well being gibbo007 as we are we had to give it a go. Most of the team was willing. It was a great walk through the bush on a very hot and humid night. The cache was located within minutes of arriving at GZ. Great container and really good hide. No muggle will ever find this one. Took Geo coin and signed log. Thanks KerrNT for the cache and walk in the bush. I will have to go back and have a look at the veiw some other time.
