Logs
Such a windy day! We decided to trek in forest so we chose Main Ridge Track starting from Lowry Bay and ending to York Bay. We liked especially that main track. TFTC!
I love beech forests! Great day to be out today. Took a little time finding this one. Waited on a side track as a large group walked past (they didnt even turn their heads!) and spied things while they all traipsed past. Great hide- many thanks
In this area today and drove / wandered round and grabbed a few caches as we went. Here having parked up we took advantage of the good weather and wandered up the track and found a few caches Found after a bit of a search and did have a look at the hint - which we thought was odd, since not knowing where the original cache had been placed we would have no idea where to look !!!!We did find it, signed and replaced TFTCTim and Viv - ddm
Nice n easy find in a great part of the forest! Did have to be sneaky replacing it though. TFTC!
On the ridge now, walking north to pick this up before I double back to get the ones I missed on the earlier trip.I am in the cloud now, and the rain is still minimal, in fact I am probably getting wetter from the mist. Its a cool scene, so check out the photo.Great view of beech trees here, but I am not sure that's what the CO meant. But view of anything else? Nup. I guess things have grown since then. The cache however is great. Pristine. And the environment is wonderful. Despite the rain. Or maybe because of the rain.Gets a favourite.--- A few days ago I came up here to get a multi-cache as it was a multi-cache dot day. On the way up I thought I should check the map when I get to the cache and collect any trads on the way back. Well, I found the cache readily enough, but completely forgot to check for other caches. So today I decided I should go back. The forcast was for a cloudy morning with rain in the afternoon but in actual fact it was rain all day. It's raining out there. Should I go or postpone? It's going to rain again tomorrow.Oh bugger it. I grabbed my tramping raincoat and hopped on the bus. Turned out the rain was mild, just a light drizzle all day. Definately a raincoat day!Was a great walk and despite the rain I really enjoyed my time up on the ridge.
Quick find on a sunny afternoon’s walk. Beautiful beech forests here. TFTC
Took us a wee while of looking in between 2 tracks but success in the end. Phew! TFTC
An early morning start, still a bit of gloom. I wanted to head up the ridge for the Welly Climbs cache as an excuse to work on my fitness, and as I was going past I thought I'd pick up the caches along the way. This was the first of my unfound caches. Thought a bit about the hint and wondered how it works for people who don't know where the original hiding spot was. Eventually spotted the container. Signed and replaced, then on my way. All good here, and TFTC
Tftc, after going down off the side of the wrong track for a bit we changed direction and found it.
Took longer than I care to admit and then once found I couldn't believe I'd missed it...tftc!
Out for a stroll and cache with the handsome . GPS wasn’t too much help in here, so we used the hint. After a wee bit of searching, we had the cache in our hands. TFTC. KTG
Out with KTG on this trail... on our way to check on our cache a little further along. Decided to collect these along the way. Log was in mint condition. TFTC
Found at 3rd spot I tried, TFTC -gonefishing-! Don’t think I’ve been on this section of the track before — nice bush & gradient.
Found on a very warm day during my walk along the Main Ridge Track as far as the Ferry Track down to Days Bay I've been meaning for a long time to pick up caches on this route
In pristine condition here

Out with TharntheHalken, getting some caches in Francis Bell Reserve. Found after a bit of a search, then T spotted it. All good in cache, tftc!
I don't know why these caches are getting so few visitors. This is a great walk through proper beech forest.
As trancer did, I too had issues with this one. There was no way to confirm where the original cache had been placed (assuming that the cache coords are still for the original, it doesn't say they have been changed although the hint looks to have been updated). Then no way to tell which direction the right angle referred to. I ended up going in from the track 5m and checking all likely spots in each direction. Coords when signing had me 9m away from the posted ones. A quick capture of mine was S41 15.046 E174 55.268 so maybe that might help someone else out.
Anyway cache was in great condition, happy to sign the log and carry on. Thanks!

Found eventually after searching all the candidate hiding places in the vicinity. The GPS showed me 8m away while I was signing which is why it took me a relatively long time to find. Well, it only took 5 minutes or so but still. TFTC.
Quick find with good hint but no sign of geotrail to be seen. Cache in very good condition. Thanks
ook advantage of the good weather this evening to grab a few caches along the Wainui ridge-line. First time I've been along the tracks in this area for many years. As kids it was our route from home in Wainui to the beach at Days Bay during the summer. *TFTC -gonefishing- #292*
Out walking the dog in the bush today, finding a few geocaches en route. Quick find here, tftc!
Read the earlier logs! Cache has shifted. Reasonably easy find once we had the updated info. Lovely walk along the Ridgeline. Left a token
Found thanks to GSEL's earlier log. As c:geo only shows the most recent logs in pocket queries, the additional information is:
"It is now 5m off the track at a right angle to original hide and in direction of the harbour. Placed at base of a large beech tree".
"It is now 5m off the track at a right angle to original hide and in direction of the harbour. Placed at base of a large beech tree".
Log entry below by GSEL is essential reading, as both coords and hint are no longer accurate. Pretty chilly day but the track was an excellent condition. Thanks for the cache
Found what looked like the hiding place according to the hint but there was nothing there (thankfully - it wasn't a very nice place!) I had the last four or five logs in my GPSr, which suggested the hint was no longer appropriate. Mrs Wicm spotted what looked like a geotrail, and there it was. TFTC.
. Early morning start. Had to step a few paces off track and couldn't see any hint object. All good at GZ - dry log etc.
Thanks for another smilie

3 September 2016 14:30. A beautiful afternoon to be up on the ridge, and tidying up the unfound caches in the area. A bit of a needle in a haystack search until I read some previous logs, then everything made sense! TFTC cache is in perfect condition.
Spent a bit more time searhing here until I read GSELs log. Found it soon afterwards, Could the CO please update teh Hint, please? TFTC
Dog needed a walk and I needed a cache or two. Up the Puriri track and along the ridge. Found after a bit of a search. Saw GSEL log once I got home and understand why is off track now. Swapped TBs. Thanks for the cache.
I didn't look at my phone for the updated logs until after MrM5 had plunged his hand into the oily brown sludge that GSEL mentioned. The cache was quickly located after this by following the instructions in the log. Left a TB. TFTC
Hint needs to be updated, cache is now off the track a few meters. All in good condition and didn't take long to spot
Thanks GSEL for the clear instructions on the new GZ. Quickly found a clean and dry log. TFTC
I didn't notice the previous finder's comment that the cache had been moved. I agree that the original spot is not suitable at the moment, so please could the coordinates be updated to reflect the new location? Thanks.
Saw something matching the hint, but no joy.

#1077. This cache was found after an enjoyable walk up from Point Howard through the beech forests and mixed hardwoods. The cache hiding spot was quickly found. However the hollow had filled up with dirty water and an oily brown sludge had got through the outer cache and into the inner cache and coated the plastic bag with the log. The log was still OK. I removed everything and gave it all a good wipe down with tissues. Put log in a new Ziploc bag. Decided the cache hide is not suitable any longer and shifted the container 5m away. It is now 5m off the track at a right angle to original hide and in direction of the harbour. Placed at base of a large beech tree. If CO is not happy they may need to check out the cache hide. TFTC
nice left trackable here to chill for a bit longer already have two to take to aussie on Monday.
Great hiding spot. Quick find out with Bigcheese. took something, added something. TFTC
Quick find while out walking along the ridge line on a fantastically sunny Wellington day. TFTC

Not very well hidden. Put something in. Nothing to take. Replaced and hidden more. TFTC.
Find #1976. A day of mixed activity walking and cycling to collect some Wainui' valley caches on a beaut winter's day. Interesting hide and tricky retrieve - all in the way you manoeuvre the box. Had to wait for some passing muggles. SL TFTC.
Container and log replaced today. Now a double container set up to keep it dry. Please take care to close the containers securely and replace as found.
Log icky. Yummy brown rusty stuff all over the bag and saturated. No problen locating but couldn't sign. With metal-art.
Thanks for the reports on the wet condition of this cache. It's still going to be a number of weeks before I can make a maintenance visit, so some geocaching community luuurve could come in handy if anyone is planning a visit in the near future. A 200ml Sistema would be a good replacement for this one, so PM me and I can provide a new container and log book to intending visitors.
Unfortunately this geocache has been badly damaged by water, the log book is ruined too
Cache totally soaked and filled with nasty stuff. Need replacement / cleanout and starting again. Great location but does need a waterproof container
Cache completely munted Inside picture taken to prove find. Needs urgent maintenance
Cache in very bad condition. The container and items inside are all covered in what i think is tree sap?
Great walk, but pretty steep! Cache in bad condition, so couldn't sign the log. Have photo for proof of find.
Found it but it's in bad condition. Log and contents are covered in a black sludge
Just updating that this cache needs maintenance. The hole in the tree is full of black liquid stuff which has seeped into the cache container and into the plastic bag and all over the log book. Unfortunately all swappable items are also covered in this stuff so potentially some new items need to be added.
Two 'roaming kiwi' caches in a row, I have just come from the 'Ship Rock' cache. This one took me a few minutes to find, the old Garmin was playing up today.
Thanks for the cache rk & -gf-

To find or not to find indeed. Well I did. Very busy with Mountain Bikers whizzing by. SL TFTC Picked up Mr Slug.
Out for a Sunday walk. Really loved this track and the trees. Went to Mt Lowry and back to the summit lookout carpark. TFTC
Creepy retrieval. TB dropped off. TFTC.

This is a fabulous area to walk in. we really enjoyed our wander through here. Great views, great trees and a very well maintained track. Tftc
Quick find at GZ. Had never been along this track and was expecting to be on an exposed ridge. Surprised to quickly be in the beech forest, and sheltered from the rising wind. Pretty cruisey walk, and managed a crackin pace. Really pleased geocaching has brought me to another lovely walk I hadn't sampled before.
Would definitely recommend this for kids (starting at the top of Wainui Hill of course).
TFTC!

We had met just one other person on the track, but as luck would have it, just as I found the cache, a couple of women hove into view before I had time to grab it. They said that they were the first of several more in the group, but I managed to get the logbook out for signing before the stragglers arrived.
Then a short wait before the coast was clear to replace.
A good hide, and I liked that we didn't have to leave the track.
TFTC.
