Hi Skytracker
This geocache was brought to my attention as being in need of an owner maintenance visit. The cache owner needs to check on this cache ASAP and either replace it or archive it, after picking up any geo-litter. See the [maintenance section of the Geocache Listing Requirements/Guidelines](http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx#listingmaintenance).
I've added this cache to my watchlist, and I will check back in four weeks to be sure that the maintenance has been done. In the meantime, I have temporarily disabled this listing. When the maintenance is completed, the owner can enable the listing by clicking on the link below the cache name to return it to active status.
Whatever your intentions, please **post a note** here on the cache page (not email) to let us know that you are still active and maintaining the cache. If a month passes without seeing a response, then I'll assume that this listing should be archived.
Please note, that if a cache is archived due to lack of owner maintenance, the cache is unable to be unarchived.

This cache is clearly in need of some maintenance, and the CO doesn't appear to have been active for over 2.5 years.

I found WP1 after searching various trees and rummaging around for it (it was covered by a lot of pine needles), I don't know how accurate my phone GPS was but it said I was around 14m away from GZ when I found it. Made my way to WP2 (easier to locate) where I found the broken and empty film container, so couldn't continue on with the rest of the waypoints. Hopefully the cache owner can fix this soon as this is a great place for a multi-cache.
I was in Otaki this evening to grab a cache that has recently been reinstated, and so I thought I would have a crack at this one as I've always ignored it in the past due to the apparent length of time it would take to complete.
However tonight I had plenty of time up my sleeve, so was looking forward to knocking this one off.
Shame I couldn't even find WP1.
My GPS kept taking me to one tree in particular, which I searched as well as I could. I also searched several nearby trees, as quite frankly just about every single tree in that area could have been described as "tangled tree", but after about 20 minutes I had to waive the white flag.
I will make some inquiries of previous finders in the hope of a pointer or two, although it will probably be a while before I get another chance to attempt this one.

On the hunt for some hidden creatures today, after a very late start we still managed 18 and a couple of DNFs, the weather lucky stayed good enough to cache in. thanks for the placement - had some guidance on this one as we couldnt find the WP - after a very long stroll we finally got to gz cache all in good order, on our travels kaleb found a massive stick that he dragged around with him, the awesome swing was played on and a guy walking through the area with an axe collecting something, that put the creeps up me but he had a small child and I am guessing was cutting pine cones?
Accompanied Yeetrees and Gonefishing on another excursion into the hinterland escaping Wellington. We found a number of caches around Otaki and Levin in our journeys.
Yeetrees knew where to go for the cache so helped point the way leaving me to make the actual find.
Thanks to all the CO’s who placed the caches for us to locate.

We headed here about a month ago, but as with others before us, when we got to WP2 all we found was a broken container with no contents. We tried to continue on using just the clues but gave up. Once at home we went through what we knew & tried working out where the final could be from those. Using some deductive reasoning & likely options, we were able to narrow it down to several possible GZ's, so headed back today to try our luck.
Luck certainly was on our side. As we neared the first set of co ords we had, a likely hiding place was spotted & there was the cache! Great to be able to finish this one.
We left a pet rock - a crab. Thanks for the adventure skytracker

As previous post. WP1 OK. WP2 damaged and coordinates lost. Tried to battle on without but needed the digits really to make a long search more fruitful. Great location tho.
Found waypoint 1 and 2 but 2 was broken and wet and unable to read. We hunted round the forest just using the clues. Found fallen tree but no cache. Notice this hasnt been found at all this year
Cache # 2,654 - Yay! Found this today, almost 10 months after I made my first attempt at it. After that last attempt, which was thwarted at WP 3, I did a lot of research and found the rest of the answers I needed to get a final location. Went today with Crystal Fairy, and we had cache in hand within 2 minutes at the GZ. All well in the cache - swapped in a wind chime and took a toy dinosaur. Thanks for a memorable wander through the woods - both of them!
A really enjoyable walk through the forest and a great sized cache at the end. Thanks for the cache. Did with Wandering Dragons. Glad to finally have this one off my list,
Had another look, found a great hidy hole, about where the clues in other logs and hints point too, but no show, will have another go using the co-ordinates that I do have. Couldn't make heads or tails of first WP.
YAY! I used my scout map and compass skills with old dog to hunt down the possible co-ords, and with a bit of luck found it on the last possible walk before I go back to WGTN. Had to make a makeshift hook because my arm's where too short! I also left some of my signature items, and took the train toy.
Thanks for the cache in the Old Forest.
Thanks for the cache in the Old Forest.
Great hunting through the woods with Owhiro Ray and the Cache hound (who was more interested in chasing rabbits) Nearly muggled by a couple of nosy goats, otherwise saw no one. TFTC
We had a great time in the forest today and enjoyed this cache very much.
After reading some previous logs I had realised that some of the waypoints were going to be problematical, but also realised that there may be no need to find all of them to get the information needed for the final location. So after some research at home to avoid the need to visit WP5, we made quick finds at WP1 and WP2 and (making an assumption of the value of B) proceeded to the final where we made another quick find of the satisfyingly large container.
Thanks very much for the cache which gets a favourite point from me.

These clues make no sense to me:
[D = The year of the wreck of the Felixstowe – 1869
E = The number of crew lost in the wreck of the Felixstowe
F = The number of lives lost in the wreck of the City Of Auckland
G = The year the City Of Auckland was built – 1863]
Whats 1869/1863? do i add these numbers together or what? Shouldn't it be 18*9 ect?
J = The date of the wreck of the City Of Auckland – the date of the wreck of the Felixstowe (day of month).
Which one is it? I thought only 1 number could go here..
Overall confusing, think im gonna have do this one hardmode and go straight for the final.

Had at least 90 minutes available to look for this today, and even though the weather was not cooperative, it is seldom that I get that kind of time in Otaki, so off I went. WP1 was a very easy find, and then off to WP2. Also pretty easy, although more places to search. WP3 is where it went wrong. 40 minutes of thorough searching yielded nothing, and I simply ran out of time to keep going. Still needed my cache for the day so abandoned this one for now and will monitor to see who else makes progress on it. Might also try to come up with coordinates by doing a bit of research at home, as Troodles previously did. At least the walk to WP3 was very enjoyable, if a bit wet, and I will be back to finish this one.
Got stuck in the boxthorn looking for WP3, will have to come back later.
I stupidly ignored the advice, and wore shorts. I thought I was into pain and discomfort in a big way, but by the time I was bleeding in the middle of seemingly endless stretches of boxthorn I felt differently!

A very pleasant walk in the shade on a warm day. No trouble with WP1, but WP2 took a little longer. I had already got the info for WP5 and took a guess at B so went straight to my calculated final, while StreetWalker decided to have a look for WP4.
Taking a roundabout route, was very happy to see an object at my final which agreed with the hint. Soon found the nice big cache and after signing the log, waited for StreetWalker. He was unable to find WP4 so it was lucky I had prepared.
BTW, the last to sign the log book was ADV, so sign of either Trevambo or Tremichlan's name.
Thanks for cache.

#7241. A great idea to have a multi here to get cachers to explore an interesting area. Once we had found WP3 Troodles was pretty sure she had some good-looking coords, but I thought I'd see if I could find WP4 just in case there was a problem. Finding my way to WP4 wasn't too bad. When I got there there many hiding places and I after a decent look I came up empty handed. I sent Troodles a text to see how she was doing and shortly after got a text back saying she had found the cache (funnily enough she never got mine because reception was a bit dodgy and it was still in my outbox). Thanks for an enjoyable adventure.
[I found this without finding any of the waypoints, except the penultimate one, and that confirmed my hunch is discoverable without the preliminary steps with luck, trigonometry and log-reading] CO: PM me if you want to know the flaw in the puzzle as it currently stands. [TFTC Skytracker].
Yay! I finally made it up to Otaki for this one, it's been on my must do list for over 5 years now and I remember getting some subtle reminders from the CO a few years back. Really enjoyed the visit, truly an amazing area to explore. All WP's in good condition and were found quickly. Applied a little strategy in getting from WP4 to WP5 which paid off as I manged to completely avoid any of the nasty stuff. And so cool to find a REAL geocache at the end. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys the fun and adventure of geocaching as it used to be, sigh!
So pleased I finally did this one, many thanks Skytracker.

Checked all the waypoints and the final today in the brilliant Otaki sunshine.
All is good, although there has been a bit of wind damage to the tree at WP2, a bit of rapid growth and a small fire (nearby) at WP3 and a spurt of undergrowth acceleration at WP4, which almost obscures the marker.
Picked up the geocoin languishing at the final since September last year. A bit sad nobody has chosen to take the tour for 6 months, especially considering the exquisite Otaki weather.

#3323. An enjoyable multi-puzzle in the dune forest. New housing development appeared to start encroaching near the starting point though. All waypoints and the final were very well hidden. We spent a bit more time searching at WP2 than it should have, but we did encounter a kid playing hide and seek around there, apparently hiding from the family.

Went and checked WP1 at 0730 today on my way north. Happy to say that the clue is in situ, although you may have to grope for it at about head height.

Came here late this afternoon, I have been looking forward for a long time to hunting out this cache. Unfortunately I bombed badly at WP1 - there has been a lot of tree-cutting and there is debris all over the place at the WP1 site. After searching for about 20 minutes I resorted to phoning a previous finder. After I was not able to find anything using the hints provided, he gave me the coordinates for the next waypoint and after that all the other waypoints and the final were found quite quickly. It was dark by the time I was ready to hunt for the final and it was found by torchlight - I really enjoy walking in these sorts of forests at night. Signed log, thanks for a very enjoyable cache.
My first mistake was to charge off on this hunt without reading the logs and with an eight month old printout which had the wrong information in respect of digit "I".
I flew around the maze finding all the WPs quickly and even using my orienteering skills to avoid the nastier vegetation. My "final" co-ordinates took me to an unlikely place for a large ammo box to be waiting. The hunt was therefore abandoned until I could consult the logs.
After discovering the problem with "I", I returned to the forest with a choice: to start over again to get the correct information which had been overwritten or to substitute the offending digit with others and try my luck. I tried the latter with no joy so resorted to the former which of course took me back to an area I had already tried, but at least I could discount the others. However, I still couldn't spy any likely hiding places.
It was then that I started over again and discovered my second mistake of being careless with the figuring out of another digit. Back on track again, I found the final without difficulty.
This was all great fun and it didn't really take all that long despite my difficulties. I am awarding this cache one of my favorites points.

We had a very enjoyable wander round the area today collecting the required info. Having read the previous logs, I used Boxhills version of question I, which delivered a the goods.
Nice to find a good container in a great spot.

Congratulations Gonefishing and HUGE thanks to Boxhill!
I've been off the air for quite some time and was just about to check this cache out tomorrow when I got back to Otaki when the latest log came in. The clue to "I" has been changed in accordance with Boxhill's recommendation, as this seems to work. Re-hiding this cache was a bit of a challenge and took quite a bit of searching for the right spot, but I'm certain that it is now better located than the original.
One day I hope to find another container like the original and restore it to its former glory.
Thanks once again to everyone who has helped sort out this cache.

Finally got around to doing this one, has being a while since I have being here. Did look at this one a while back BUT not sure why I hadn't done it, now that my skill are a bit more better, it made it easier to find the spots required. A nice bit of a dune walk and worked out the accurate final co-ordinates as to boxhill's notes for question I otherwise all was well. Nice container and glad to see that all the contents in the cache were dry, although the other waypoints are a bit wet. Nice puzzle, TFTC TNLNSL (1977)
This one truely is a reward to have finally found. I think Boxhill and our team were definitley in the same league as we have searched and searched and searched and rather than randomly search the forest we gave in until someone logged a find. Thanks to Boxhills proactive help and realising it was not our error that we didnt find it...off we went today. We had been so many times that King actually knows his way back to our incorrect searching spot! Today we had a quick find and were happy to finally log our find.
From my trials and tribulations in working out the location of the cache, I have concluded that question “I” should be ‘The sum of the 2nd & 5th digits S of WP3’. As searchers will have to find this Waypoint along with the others to work out its hiding spot, I don’t believe I’m giving anything away as to its location by passing on this information.
Well third visit luck for this one. At a rough guess this has taken me about 31/2 hours (not counting travel time) over 3 visits to find.
Got all the waypoints and sent an hour looking for the cache on the first visit. Went away checked and double checked my calculations returned and spent another hour looking.
Returned again today with a fresh outlook, and yeehaa!!!!! found it quite away from where I was first searching. TNLN SL TFTC

Yay, found this afternoon while heading up north. Completed some stages earlier this year but struggled to find WP4. Managed to complete the required info a couple of weeks ago but couldn't locate the cache - turns out I just about had my hand on it. A great cache where a lot of work has gone into putting it together and I recommend it highly to others TFTC!
The cache is back up and running.
It has been moved about 20m to a better location, where it shouldn't get stumbled upon. Please make sure you hide exactly as you found it and watch for muggles when extracting & replacing.
I have given the logging kit a Spiderman theme, as there seem to be a few of his rellies around here.
Happy hunting.

While sorting out the new cache I dropped Sparkee Krew 5 in for a visit. This TB replaces the one attached to an orphan tag I found in a cache a while ago. He'll soon be racing out of the country via a Stargate.
Unfortunately the final has been muggled, which is a great shame because it was pretty cool.
I will replace it as soon as I can, but probably not with the same size container.
Fortunately there weren't any travel bugs in it.

Found all of the waypoints quite easily (except WP3, which took a bit of searching). Found an ideal location for the final even with a dug out hidey hole, except we couldn't find a cache there. Muggled?
Couldn't find cache even though right on the spot which was a great pity afte all the work before! Has it been muggled?
Found with tmann421 and Hugo the dog. Really enjoyed this multi-cache despite the cuts and scratches from one or two short cuts! SL, TFTC.
Found with Barri-Ster & Hugo the dog. Great fun and good area to explore. Seems strange - the new subdivision right in the middle of the tree area. WP3 took quite a while to find, but got there. All WP's and cache in good condition. The box-thorn was really awful to get through - obviously didn't find the easy way in places. SL TVMFTC Left L.A.V., took carriage.
Having helped Bkj97 to find many of his caches since May 2009 I thought it was time that Bcj97 (previous name) should evolve and register my finds to date as Little Blue Hen. Bit of a mission but worth the effort. We like a challenge, but not the blackberry and boxthorn.TFTC
Wow, staggered that no one else had visited since we were one step away from actually reading the info before stumbling from WP to WP back on June 1 without hints. Great multi, super area despite the new subdivision mid forest. Today decided we had to complete and was an easy find and goodness gracious the biggest cahe container I have encountered ! Good hide but camo a little obvious pre visit now a little more natural. Took guiness coasters and left a bunch of toys, would have enclosed a mini if I'd had one with me ! TFTCSL. Will post a couple of photos of forest soonish. Well done.
Stumbled into the forest without any info except coords for WP1 and Bcj97 for company.
Got to WPV and weather turned to custard so abandoned in favour of coffee. Will complete soon now details are read. Great little multi. Clever WP's but WPII was damp from memory. Thanks for the fun.

Our 300th cache had to be a bit more challenging than the average. A multi in a dune forest seemed just right. It turned out to be a walk rather on the wild side. But it was great fun finding the right tracks which would get us to the next WP. Even our six year old boy enjoyed it. He found lots of climbing trees along the way. In the end the hardest part was re-sealing the big container. It took quite some time till we'd figured out the mechanics and put everything together properly. Thanks for this great cache – the biggest we ever found!

I had been looking forward to doing this one as I used to play in the area as a kid. The whole family got into this one and enjoyed the walk on a sunny Sunday afternoon. One member when it was his turn with the GPS, tried to take us all through box thorn, but another route was voted on. . The longest we spent looking for a waypoint was on WP1. A most enjoyable find. Thanks.

Thanks so much for an entertaining cache. We love the size of your cache box! We never expected a real "treasure chest" at the end and so well stocked! The size gave us the opportunity to drop off one of our bigger goodies. +Wellington Street Directory, pliers, cloth doll, small box of buttons, butterfly hair clip and a nice GC. -pack of ties, notebook, mini mirror. As for the multis, they were very well set up and in such a lovely forest of pine trees on sand-dune ground. An interesting and unique location. The multis were really fun to do and to know that there was a *big* cache at the end made all the difference! (yes, we still can get over the SIZE! ). Also we were glad we did not have to do the last few multis which appeared to increase in difficulty

Thanks Skytracker, this cache is well set up and made to be enjoyed - but have solid shoes because dead barberry will happily pierce even through your sneakers! (No, not this time!)
It was a hot day today, so we had a little break halfway to make sure the dogs (and us) didn't perish.

It was a hot day today, so we had a little break halfway to make sure the dogs (and us) didn't perish.
At last, a chance to place some treats we have not found the right cache for before. And what a shopping list it is:
IN: model railway wagon (OO scale)
blue toy car
Belinda TB
Kevin's First TB
OUT: pen
girl's hankies (for Red)
Always Watching TB
Life-s a Beach TB
TFTC
I had to try this cache after all the good reviews that it has been getting.
It deserves the good reviews and was a lot of fun.
The final cache was very impressive.
Thanks

Out for a days caching with Edvern. This sort of forest is familiar to us orienteers so we felt right at home! No problems with any of the WPs, however took a direct route from 4 - 5 and the feet took a minor thrashing (we were in shorts and sandals!).
Realised we had made a bit of a blue when calculating the co-ords for the final - the moral of the story is 'read all the info' before setting off. However in the end sorted it all out and quickly found the final.
Loved the container and what a well stocked cache! Many thanks for the effort, we really enjoyed this cache. Total time was about 1 hr 10 mins. Collected TB Joey.

Did this one with Tramper Ted. It was good to have moral support as we worked our way around the puzzle - sharing thoughts on where to search and route choices to take. We are both orienteers and would describe some of the vegetation we bashed through as "fight". There are probably more sensible options! We really enjoyed all the challenges we were presented with and the history was very interesting too - two wrecks so close together in time, and a chance to look at the old health camp. This is a "must do" cache, with an impressive collection of goodies. Out rabbit, in card holder. Thanks Skytracker!
What a great multicache! This would have to be my favourite so far, quite clearly a lot of thought and time has gone into setting it up! And once again I am led to an area I haven't been to, even though I have been a local for over 30 years.
After some quick net research on the ship wrecks I filled in some of the final cache co-ordinate digits and headed off. I was to find out later on this research normally wouldn't be necessary as all of the answers are provided along the way, however in my case it proved to be very handy!
WP1 and WP2 were easy finds, WP3 at first appeared to be a bit of a 'needle in a haystack' search however spot on co-ordinates left me standing 0.5 of a metre from it, great stuff! WP4 was an easy find after I decided to give up on following paths as suggested. I didn't like the look of where I had to go to get to WP5 so took a bit longer route through the forest and managed to avoid all of the boxthorn and bush bashing. Wearing long pants and boots was a great suggestion and highly recommended! On approaching WP5 I noticed muggles settled in with their fish and chips and unlikely to be leaving any time soon. So, I decided to bypass WP5 as I already had all the information I needed to establish the final cache co-ordicates, thanks to my earlier research. Later on I was to find out the muggles wouldn't have been a problem anyway if I had investigated the area from a closer position.
The final cache WP6 was an easy find, nice hiding spot away from muggles eyes if you stay low. Interesting container with some good items inside. Really enjoyed this multicache - a good walk with some great searches, scenery and puzzle solving. Thanks Skytracker.

Checked up on WP3 and it's there, although it had slipped into a rather tricky hole which made it hard to find and even harder to extract. Fixed so it shouldn't happen again.
Picked up "Not The Painter FTFP Puzzle #1" Geocoin.

"Hmm....10:40pm...better log off...hang on, I'll quickly check my e-mails before I go.....What? A brand new puzzle cache only 12km away!?! YAY!"
Hehe, so off I go very early on Friday morning to find this new cache in some glorious yet hot weather. Found the 1st & 2nd WP's OK, got to WP3 and became a bit baffled by the clue - but soon had it sussed. As Skytracker had promised, the terrain was starting to get a bit hairy, and my legs were starting to get a bit scratchy! How I loathe boxthorn! Particularly in shorts! Found WP4 just fine, then had to prepare myself for the treacherous path to WP5....and by then, I had realised that lupin and pine trees are MUCH more nicer on the legs than blasted boxthorn! Either way, I experienced a bit if both. Finally made it to WP5 where a muggle sat nearby, watching....waiting......wait a minute, he looks familiar...he's waving at me...must be an eager cache-owner wanting to meet up with a possible F-T-Finder! Sure enough, had a bit of a chat with Skytracker, and assured him that his cache creation was at an excellent level of quality! It turns out that his friend had spotted a car at the parking co-ordinates, which Skytracker instantly identified - who else could drive a 1984 Honda Civic with a Geocaching bumper sticker? [8)] Gathered the clues I needed from the WP, and set off to the final WP, which Skytracker had told me was to be worthwhile. Woo-hoo! Ony my way to be FTF! Practically ran to the cache site (how I love paths free of boxthorn ), and discovered the obvious hiding location, only to behold something much more cooler! Had a fun time exploring the cache, and was greeted by a very cool FTF prize, which I look forward putting into action!
Went to Skytracker's place afterwards for a drink and a chat.
Thanks very much for a highly enjoyable cache, which I thoroughly recommend for someone who's keen for adventure. It's good to see some effort and dedication being put into cache hides such as these - shows the true Geocaching spirit. Bravo!

We had trouble finding WP1, the GPS was all over the place. Had no trouble with the other waypoints and managed to avoid the thorns. Easy find at the final. -can holder and canadian micro geocoin. + teddy TFTC
Hey a new cache, just up the road! I was just about out the door and visitors arrived. 90 minutes later, away to Otaki.
Meanwhile Blarghster and WanderingPom were already onsite. I could see I wasn't first in line, but would still give it a go. found WP1... 2... thrashed around at 3 for some time before asking myself, "Am I enjoying this???" I wasn't, and was getting somewhat mauled by the vegetation, so retired to WP5 (having figured it had to be in a limited area). Quick decode, logic filled in the missing digits and away to the final.
No great trouble, but could see I wasn't FTF before I even opened the cache. Sure enough...
Well done guys, especially Blarghster -a deserved FTF.
Swapped NotThePainter FTFP for Padlock TB and 2006 GC. Thanks Skytracker for a challenging if slightly painful time.

Dropping in a few bugs and coins, some of them have a particular mission related to this cache.
