Took a little while but didn't take too long for me compared to lower rated geocaches
A great day out. We knew we had the possibility of filling a Jasmer square here. Adding a walk in the bush on a beautiful day. It doesn't get much better than that!We followed the Crete Track, Outlook Track and Hansen Track to get here. Not too many hills, but great views and lots of peace and quiet. You were so lucky to live near here.A bit of a cross between vegetable and mineral really. TFTC harlips, and for keeping it in the game for 16 years.
On a lovely day out in the Dandenong ranges I found this geocache safe and sound and dry. Picked up a trackable and visited another one.Fantastic views from here. I love the Dandenong.TFTC.
GPS reasonably ok if you broaden search and follow hints in past log should find pretty quickly.
Out today with CammJT and AdamWickenton for our first caching trip of the new year on the bikes in the northern part of the Dandenong Ranges National Park. The name of this cache intrigued us for whatever reason, so we made a conscious effort to detour over to this cache while we were in the area. After enjoying the downhill slope towards GZ, we were slightly stumped on this hide for a little while, until further inspection of a briefly searched area came up with the goods.Tftc harlips
Cache 3/11 with fisherfamfive and AdamW on our first caching trip of the new year. We made our way down the long, steady hill to this cache with the unfortunate feeling in our heads that we'd have to ride back up it, so a find here was very important. Luckily, the sneaky hide was spotted by Cooper after we expanded our search radius and we could make our way onwards, tftc harlips
I always planned to come caching here but never got around to it. Today is the perfect day for it with blue sky nice temperature and the lady out of the picture!
Hint is a bit of a red herring I found but after reading a few logs I honed in. TFTC and for getting me out here! Such a peaceful spot
After concentrating on searching for hint related stuff for far too long .. I decided to read some previous logs and broaden my search. That did the job cache was soon in hand and signed. Many hills were walked today, and there were a few goat trails, too. Lots of kookaburras and cockatoo singing their songs.
Grabbing our quick cache for the streak we stopped by for this cache. We struggled a bit, turned to the hint and continued struggling, until we read some logs and made the nice little find not long after. TFTC!!
While visiting pinnacle333 we decided we both needed a cache for the streak challenge. Lovely trees, beautiful views and great little hide. Thanks harlips.
Searched everything matching the hint to no avail. Read a couple of logs and decided to trust my GPSr. As mentioned, more vegetable than mineral.
No hoppers spotted today, but a kookaburra practically followed me back to my geovehicle.
Thanks for bringing me here by placing this cache, harlips

A bit of a slippery hike given all the rain, but we'll worth it !
Cache is in perfect condition too.

Found today after a small search.
E-bike made short work of the hills to and from here.
E-bike made short work of the hills to and from here.
With a couple of hours before my next job, I headed into the hills on the MTB to find some caches.
The coordinates were pretty much spot on here, but the hint not so much. Maybe the fallen tree has changed things, but the hide was more vegetable than mineral.
Found in good condition.

Very well hidden. Took longer than it should have to find.
Beautiful location. Not a fan of the hilly walk but it was worth it to knock one off of my D/T grid

The co ords were good.
We missed it on the first run as the log deceived us!
Cache is secure and dry.
Do know if the CO could recognise his roof from here these days. There’s a sea of them these days.
TFTC we enjoyed the short walk.
We mean to return when the weather is cooler and get some more caches around these tracks

This morning I looked at my work run and realised that one of the sites got me fairly close to this cache. So seeing as it has been my radar for quite a while and nicely fits into a gap in my DT matrix a "lunch break" here was a must!
I was a bit concerned about the walk given how muggy it is today, but it's better than the forecast alternative of rain all day! I needn't have worried as although my legs got a workout it was a nice walk with beautiful views
Getting close to GZ the incline increased but then so did my determination to find it, thankfully it was found right where it should be at 0m away on my phone gps haha! I hadn't realised how long a cache has been here for, many of my recent finds have been placed during covid.
Gee I love work days where I get views like this and the ability to stop for caches! Thanks for the cache!

I moved home during lockdown 5.0 and while it has been no fun going into lockdown 6.0 and now 6.1, at least I have a tiny little corner of the Dandenongs within my five kilometre radius. Being able to take my daily exercise on steep bush tracks surrounded by the forest is a real blessing. I figure a short pause on the walk to find a cache or two is not unreasonable. Such a beautiful area and no doubt a nice one to grow up in.
This was a pretty straightforward find, though complicated a little by fallen trees that are near GZ, but no real obstacle. The cache itself and the hide are unharmed by the trees. A nice hiding spot, with the feature in the hint cleverly disguised by nature as a different feature. TFTC

What a great area to have as your backyard. We took in the beautiful views on our way to GZ, then spent a fair bit of time searching in the wrong area. Once we expanded our radius, the cache was soon discovered.
Thank you harlips for the excuse to get back to the Dandenong Ranges.

Pouring by this stage, I was getting very wet, so this was the last cache on my way back to the car. Nice spot but signed the log and moved on quickly because of the rain. My 5999th cache find! Thanks.
“Deep in the forest a call was sounding, and as often as he heard this call, mysteriously thrilling and luring, he felt compelled to turn his back upon the fire and the beaten earth around it, and to plunge into the forest, and on and on, he knew not where or why; nor did he wonder where or why, the call sounding imperiously, deep in the forest.”
after geocaching for many a year
the hamfish now more mobile than ever before
five years of caching was done without a car: scrounging lifts or catching buses or riding bikes or, invariably, doing a h*ckload of walking
but
now the bullet has been well and truly bitten
and the car bought
so now geocaches that were long out of reach are within our grasp
treasures long-forgotten on remote hillsides and hilltops and hill-othersides call with fervour
bring it

Still there despite all the recent tree falls, lovely location, and I agree a beautiful place to grow up
After finding another cache in the area and before the rain was going to set in it was a quick find.
Took me a little while but it was worth it I swear the lorikeets always cheer me on when I find a cache
Couldn't find it for ages, stood on the edge of the path where the location was and it was right underneath me.
Out and about whilst working from home. Trying not to go insane! What else to do but cache (especially in the bush, where no one is around). TFTC and for the walk. Bit puffed, but well worth it.
I'm sweating up a storm running on these hills. Nice quick find and very dry after all the rain. Tftc!
Awesome leg burner. Now i dont feel as bad for eating maccas for lunch!. Thanks for the cache all looks to be in good order!
Took some muscle ... but hey it is all part of the fun .. My friend loves the game ... so do I ... Cheers
This had been on my radar for years. Today was my chance to find it and all is good. Tftc harlips.
On a mission before I leave Melbourne to find a clutch of caches in this little pocket of the forest. Have not been here for donkeys years. Not sure I covered ground in the most efficient way but had grabbed the MT bike and managed most of the hilly country. Nice to be back after a few decades. All caches found quickly enough. TFTC and series. I’ll be back!

Dad needs a few miles, and a little climbing, in his legs before heading up to the big hills with older boy. So wandered a little of the Dandenong to iron-out a few knots in his calves. Just what the doctor ordered! Tftc
I knew I was close when I spotted a roof. Feeling a but jealous of the warmth they must have inside, with smoke billowing from the chimneys, while my hands had gone stiff in the cold and wet. Oh well. A simple find, The cache was still cosy and dry. I was on wildflower walk, and we were in the last leg, infact we were down to the last four stragglers at this stage. Nearby we spotted a flowering honeypots, The flowers hide down inside the plant a bit like a geocache, and they hide inside them a delicious treat that tastes like honey! I've provided a sadly blurry photo of them.TFTC!
Out for a morning stroll in shorts and a t-shirt - how silly. I put my jumper on then got the heart rate up on my way to this cache. I was soon at GZ where the cache was a quick find. Wow, I'm loving these views.
Thanks harlips!
Thanks harlips!
After long walk from the top on the way back to the car quick find gps was bit out
Definitely my favourite find of the day!! Really well hidden and super excited to find this one!
One wouldn’t expect to get muggles out here on an evening but we very nearly did get busted! Some photography of the view was a good cover for our pause on the side of the track. TFTC
What a tranquil place. I can imagine you would have been in little boy heaven with such a backyard, and we spoke about that while enjoying the amazing views. The cache was guarded well by some spider webs but it was in such a safe spot it probably didn't need that extra layer of protection.

I was bored!
I was wondering where to go for my daily cache. I looked at what was on offer nearby, but nothing really grabbed me. So I looked further afield...
This one caught my attention with a nice D/T. A little more examination revealed that there was a missing Jasmer square on offer here too. And that was enough to excitedly get me in the car and drive out into the night.
On arrival, I headed up the mountain track without using a torch. I was happy to let my eyes adjust to the dark.
I detoured for a quirky DM cache that I was passing, then headed down the last leg towards GZ. The views at night are lovely. The lights of the city sprawled out below me to my right. Hansen Track is like a mirror image of Ramu Track on the other side of the mountain.
A distant dog began barking at my presence. But no one else would've known I was there.
I found the cache quickly and in good order. It's a sweet location here.
Thanks, harlips. I really liked coming out this way. It was so enjoyable that I feel like continuing my walk tonight - I might see what else is in this neck of the woods...

Lovely walk despite the chilly winter's day. Nice easy find for the geokids. Thanks for the trip!
I decided to take a meander through Ferntree Gully today to climb the 1000 steps and get some fresh air. A total of 21 finds with no DNFs. This was #13 for the day. This one was a bit out of the way but I'm glad I did it. Great location.
Wild, wild weather and possibly not the safest location to be out in it. Started early on a stormy morning - and waited the electrical storm out in the car. As soon as it subsided, we were off. This was our first find of a long walk around the Dandenongs. TFTC!
A nice early walk around the Dandenong Ranges National park with Clint. The weather wasn't too bad considering when we arrived there was heaps of rain and lightning which stopped before we set out.
(thankfully). This was the first cache for the day and was a nice quick find. Rain still falling. Thanks Harlips for the cache.

It was a nice day to be walking in the dappled sunlight under the trees. Obviously Sammy Snake decided he'd better go and seek a spot of sunshine, as we came across him sunning himself on the track a bit further along. He was nice and small, so we were more intrigued than scared.
I searched a number of spots that matched the hint before trusting my GPS and finding the cache in a very snug little spot that was bang on the hint and coords. This cache is in great condition...especially given its age and the fact that the CO seems to be out of the game.

Reasonably quick find on a hot day in the Dandenongs. SL and replaced as found. TFTC
Found while walking up and down tracks in the Dandenongs, looking for DM caches and other ones nearby. Great sunny day for a walk in these lovely hills.
A relatively long-standing placement, I see. It was not an overly difficult cache to locate but Kokoda Challenge participants were streaming past in waves, so it nonetheless required quite a bit of time today. Thanks harlips!
Found with the 2 and a half year old geo kid on a nice walk around a few of the tracks

Managed a easy find today after parking in one of the back streets and walking @ 600m to the cache with one of my geo sons, when they are happy to go for a walk for a cache I make the most and we headed out after the rain this afternoon and soon had the cache in hand. Thanks harlips for the hide and the walk, it is certainly a great area to come and explore.
A beautiful day for a meander around the Dandenong Ranges. Having seen the total chaos at the 1000 steps it was lovely to walk around this area away from the maddening crowds. It's amazing to think if ypu walk just a couple of km away from there you effectively have the area to yourself.
This is a beautiful area to have on your doorstep. Lucky you! I wandered along the track from the previous cache and enjoyed the view that was coming and going through the trees over the local area and beyond. The GPS had me over shooting the cache but it soon rectified itself and I found the cache safely tucked away. There was a cobweb nearby that had quite the collection of exoskeletons on it so I was glad I had the gloves with me. Luckily I didn't see the local resident! TFTC!

We enjoyed lots of wildlife on this adventure. Butterflies, skinks and kookaburras. As well as an amazing view. We stumbled around the bush a bit as the GPS wasn't getting us too close. After putting our phone away and going by the clue we eventually found what we were after closer to the track than we thought. Tyftc.
Out hiking around the hills today to escape from the horse race that is going on. A lovely hike up and down the mountain a few times to collect a good series of caches. Other than the 2 DNF's. All were where they should be. Sometimes a bit out on the coords due to the hills but otherwise great. Thanks for the hides.
Find #7. Such a beautiful day for a hike in the Dandenongs and cleaning up another portion of the map with smileys. My geosenses were on high due to jumpy GPSr signals and because I was without my geo-accomplice, Tripze.
Peaceful GZ with some beautiful views. Bathed in the sunshine whilst waiting for some other hikers to pass before signing log.

A second conference in Melbourne = a second chance to tack on an extra day for some Dandenongs Meandering that had started with no particular plan other than to get out and enjoy this great part of the world. I definitely can't see my roof from here....I would need to be whole lot higher...and with an amazingly good lense.
Our last stop on our trek today, and it is very good to be heading down at last. Also picked up my first Pathtag here. Thanks for that SteveR1 and thanks harlips for the cache.
Where do i begin on this one .
Another day off in the world of being a carpenter and amazingly crappola weather..
And ironically i could not work because it was too wet but i could go out and cache find...
So ..on my hit list, that has been annoying me by not being a smiley, is this little old roof cache..
So i decide that i will head out and grab it .IT'S ONLY A GREEN ONE..
Well, all excited , i hit the geohotrod and punched in some co-ords into my gps and my mob as to the location and turned the rubber of the geohotrod towards the town of Old Roofs..Getting close now and then suddenly my GPS talks to me and says 100m to your destination...When i actually get out of the geohotrod and look up all i could say was "FRIGGING HELL" ...houses with no gaps and a vertical climb looking like needed........ ....was only 45 degrees or so...lol
So i think back in the geohotrod and back to the start of that street to look for another entry......
Found a point of entry.....BEAUTY....off i go and start walking up a particular trail......hmmm i say......seems to be going way further out the way that i thought......OK so i have only lost 300 meters of walking in my life so i will turn back and have a better look around .....
Back at the geohotrod ......Looking straight ahead and think well it is a tough D/T so i start heading in the vertical direction of rocks , long grass, mud, wet long grass, wet mud and even a few big spiders....
All good i say as i am puffing more than a steam train on a 45 deg hill......I stop for a brief break and look behind me to see the climb i have began.....OMG......that is steep......
I keep going and suddenly i hit a large ish type track.......So i think......ripper....out comes the GPS and ok i am not too far away now.....So feeling chuffed i began the walk up not so steep a rise towards the location when..........the flaming heavens opened up on me like Benito's bay at the water theme park in Queensland and then it hit me for the first time in the hour or so it has taken me to get this far......it might rain......NOOOOOO not rain but FLAMING HAIL and BIGASS cricket ball hail ....
So i'm stuffed and now DROWNED and tired and not even half way according to the track and gps etc.
PLUG ON.......hoody over head to keep the rain off the newly trimmed do and BANG......A MONGREL Kangaroo jumped out in front of me and took off like he knew where the pot of gold was hidden or something.....Long story short here ......i crapped my pants , which were wet anyway, and jumped higher than michael jorden and came crashing down to earth on my rear end.....Ok this is what caching is all about right...Continue on and get to the cache....sign the log and AMEN...i say to myself.....now to get the hell out of here
Ok so i am going to shorten this part..
I took a cross country short cut..
I'm FRIGGING LOST and suddenly my FRIGGING phone has no service....keep walking and hit track after 20mins of spiders mud, sliding on my rear, shaking every tree stopping the 400mile an hour decent skid and totally drowned...I turn one way as of course i am bewildered at this ordeal....WRONG FRIGGING WAY...so at end i have just added yet another 300METERS to my painfull trip...I hit the trail yet again and go back down to the geohotrod where i take 90% of my drowned gear off and sit and reflect on future planning and researching of cache territories and past logs for easier finds....
I then have spotted another cache and i drive to main roads and around the hills etc. not being a local and not all that familiar with this area i hit the parking area and realize....
FREAKING HELL ..THIS IS 200 FIGGING METERS FROM THE CACHE
Lesson for others : READ THOROUGHLY AND DO YOUR FRIGGING HOMEWORK FIRST
And lastly LOL
I still had a ball.

Finished work early today to head for the hills and do a bit of walking and caching. After doing a circuit of caches nearby, I headed back to the car. This cache was the last one on the run. A great place to have lived indeed. TFTC.
