Well this certainly was one hell of an adventure! Two wrongs turns in a row, and the second one (down the well-made road) I didn't feel like turning back from, and so bush-bashed up the hill - that's a bad idea for anyone wondering, it gets very thick and gorsey up near the top and probably took me half an hour to do. I know, stick to the tracks, but... I didn't. Found a couple of very well hidden mine shafts, too!
For those future cachers less masochistic than me, the start of the track you NEED to go up is well hidden! It's not the road to the right of the carpark. It's the left... but don't follow it around to where all the mines are, you need to go up some stone steps almost rigth away, which are currently half-disguised by overgrown vegetation. Once up those the track is very easy and clear.

Cache is a real mess - damp has gotten inside, outer bag was quite putrid. Log soggy. I could still write my name on it, but I think the damp has actually erased the entrys of those who came before me!
Found correct track up and quickly found cache. Didn't hang around too long as the cloud was rolling in, wind cold and getting dark. TFTC
Took the wrong way up, was about to go back, when I miraculously found the right track. Found the cache quickly, way down no problem.

Easy find on a day with great views. Man that gorse is prickly at the moment. Needs half a day with a chainsaw at the lookout
Heading back from 5 days camping at Waikawau and stopped to check out the view from this impressive pass. Didn't even notice there was a cache here till we were half way up to the viewpoint, so nabbed it once we got there. DOC could do with throwing some resources at this as the gorse on the way up is mildly annoying (O. and W. let us know most of the way) and the overgrowth at the top somewhat spoils what would be an amazing 360 degree view if it were cleared. But views SW over Coromandel were pretty awesome all the same on a sunny day and definitely worth the walk. TFTC.

This one had the family huffing and puffing as we raced the rain to the top! Shame this track isn't maintained as the view is well worth the climb. Had to do a bit of searching for this one.
Tough climb up the gravel road for the campervan, bit of a hillclimb to cache for me. Found after a bit of a search. SL TFTC
Will what can I say, after taking the wrong track for 25min thinking it was going to turn the corner any second, we turned back
Got within 125M so went bush straight up (kids loved it, I didn"t) but we got to the TOP. Good find.
Great View
P S Track is to the right of car park.

Greetings from Germany. Found during our holidays on the Coromandel. Great lookout with a beatiful view. TFTC
"It's only a few hundred metres," said Bkj97. He failed to mention it was about 80metres vertical change. Talk about puffed but views great. TFTCSL and walk down easier. ps Have recovered.
Talk about huffing and puffing. Impressive views and those who manned the spot in the 40's are to be admired. Little Blue Hen is talking to me again. TFTCSL

Decided to have another go after reading the online logs last night. Quick and easy second time round, is seems we were concentrating on the wrong quadrant yesterday, and missed the cache relocation to the NW by TT. Mrs YuGeo spotted it straight away. More great views, thanks.

Too good for us today… even with the aid of a lifeline.
The awesome views more than made up for the missed smiley.
Many thanks for bringing us here. We will be back.

Talk about dumb ass! [that being me!] parked at car park, saw big dock sign with do's an don'ts, kept walkin, 25 min later with 1.6km to GZ on GPS turned round, back 2 van an back up the correct track! easy!! finally great views! TFTC Cheers Muzy Man!
really enjoyed the quite steep walk up. Very Happy to find 3 variety of native orchids on the way up. Our GPS died when we reached the top,but was still able to find cache quite easily. The wind had made it fall, but put it back.TFTC
After riding the damn Long road Hill up from Kennedy Bay by bicycle I was happy to get this Cache. Great Spot. TFTC MacBanger
We huffed and puffed up the hill after filling ourselves up at the Driving Creek Cafe (really good food - check it out!). Got a bit confused as to what side of the map table the cache was on but Mr Adnshe got it eventually.

Pity the home guard having to walk up there every day, reckon the terrain rating could go up a noych you couldn't ride a bike up there.

Loved the history of this one. Imagine the Home Guard sitting up here all that long time ago. Cache was rather exposed so we have moved it 2 m NW to a more hidden spot. Co-ords won't change. TFTC
An interesting piece of history at a awesome view point. The cache appears to have been muggled and was in the open by the clue. Only the Log book remains in the cache. Have hidden it again. TFTC
Fantasic view and a great tidbit of history. Very blowy up here today and a bit of a battle with the gorse. TFTC!!!
Easy find after short cliimb up the path-getting a bit overgrown unfortunately. Have passed here a number of times without taking the time to get up to the lookout, so thats now done! thanks.
Alas once again 2nd to find. Picked a nice overcast day to get this one. Terrific views. TFTC.
Yahoo a 1st to find at long last. Did the Kauri run in this area a couple of years ago so it was nice to be here at a slower pace TFTC
