Time to go

24-Dec-20
Was in the area tonight so thought I'd have a look at this one. While there is a signboard at the location, it doesn't seem to match the requirements at all. I suspect the one required might not be there any more.

24-Dec-20
This geocacher reported that there is a problem with this cache.

27-Jul-20
Unfortunately couldn't find a signboard at the old Police Station with photo of Jackson Street, so couldn't even begin to solve.

28-Jul-19
#949. Some serendipity brought GB Leader and I to the café across the road from the old Petone Gaol, and lo and behold, there is a Mystery cache there! Had a wee bit of trouble working out which signboards to check out, but finally got it sussed. Puzzled over the clues, but finally sorted out what was required. After an initial hiccough, got some likely co-ordinates and bingo, cache in hand the second place I looked. All done from go to whoa in 30 minutes.

Tftc Con & Stan. Another number in the quest for 35 for the Museum Mystery.

14-Jul-19
It's been a number of years since I solved this and tried to find.....nothing like an evening stroll on the beach as an excuse to finally knock a cache off....stopped in just as a crowd was leaving a nearby establishment....not ideal...but we headed in and found the container....easy find.

Many thanks for years of anticipation!

10-Mar-19
A somewhat annoying task to get the numbers but with some double checking the numbers seemed good. A short walk around the corner to the final, unfortunately the area smells like urine, found the cache without any trouble.

02-Feb-19
The instructions are a little hard to follow and one of the clues has a (luckily obvious) typo. However couldn’t quite nail a couple of them and gave up. Hard to distinguish what are actual clues in word choice amongst bad grammar and spelling. Will try again later!

14-Jan-19
this one was not really easy for us, that we had to understand how owner wants the numbers turned. then, to find the cache was nice. thanks.

20-Oct-18
It's certainly been a longterm sentence on this one, thought we'd completed it 8 months after we'd started caching in April 2015. SJT_NZ and I then had a series of muggle encounters at various times so were unable to retrieve. Finally got a clear window 2017 prior to moving back to SI and another fail. Some very handy advice from the CO indicated I'd managed to mix up the coordinates and today all ducks lined up and SJT_NZ FINALLY were parolled and had smilie. Thanks for a great adventure.

20-Oct-18
This cache has been a nemesis for Tregearp and me. We started it nearly four years ago but because of some dodgy calculation, the GZ being muggle central when we had been in the area, and then moving to the South Island the opportunity to grab the final had alluded us.

Back in town over the weekend for the MEGA, and because being involved in the organizing meant we were passing at oh-dark-hundred, the GZ was deserted and we made a quick find and log.

Thanks Yeetrees for what I think is probably the longest "cache in progress" for me so far - I definitely feel as if I've been paroled.

11-Aug-18
Remove old cache and replaced with a new cache

23-Jun-18
Checked cache, all good, no issues here.

26-Apr-18
Small problemo. .. concrete pad and building construction at WP2

26-Apr-18
Difficulty 3+++ building constructed can't see how it could still be there as giant concrete pad been poured!!!

18-Nov-17
Found with MisComBoBulator. We were in Petone and had some time to kill so had a crack at this puzzle. Took a few minutes to figure out where the sign was but once that was in hand and got to a fairly quick solution. GZ made sense but the find took a bit longer as I was looking for the wrong kind of cache container - we found a camo eclipse container rather than a 350ml 4 lock container.

Cool place to visit, and a nice hide as well. TFTC Smile

23-Oct-17
Found the English in the clues challenging. Once we parsed that, the puzzle came together fine. No problems at GZ. TFTC!

23-Oct-17
Once I'd parsed the requirements it was straightforward clue gathering and short search at final. Cool location! Explained to muggle about clue gathering for geocache. TFTC Yeetrees

08-Aug-17
No problems getting the information even while amongst a crowd of people waiting for a bus. A quick trot and the cache was soon in hand. All in order. TFTC Yeetrees

05-Aug-17
Wondered about a few of our answers but found it nonetheless

24-Jun-17
Went pass and checked - sign is still there as well as all the required information

21-Apr-17
Think this may need a check by the CO as we were unab,w to find the plaque/noticeboard withthe necessary information and photo to complete. Shame.

Many thanks

I had a big day. I got to work early, but then had a big break during the day to go watch swimming sports at Naenae Pool. As a consequence I had to work late and then go straight to Huia Pool for Swim Club in the evening. By the time that was finished it was 8.15pm and I had not had more than about 10 minutes to myself during the whole day. I decided to find a geocache on the way home.

I had already solved to coordinates for this one, but had not been able to attempt the find because there were too many muggles around on previous visits (including a lady with a Samurai Sword doing her martial arts routine one sunny afternoon). No such problems today.

The cache is in good condition. All nice and dry inside.

I picked up the TB.

Thank you

Cherrys Rule

11-Aug-16
It's early so I could park almost outside the gaol to gather the needed information, and from there a short walk to the final. I've driven past this place numerous times but never stopped. Thanks for giving me an excuse! TFTC

09-Mar-16
Quick easy find tftc

08-Mar-16
Fortified by a cup of hot chocolate (with chilli oil - Yum!!!!), I decided to have another go at this one. I had got the information over a year ago, but hadn't been able to make the find, although I'd narrowed it down to two possible areas. This time, with Taybee's mockery I had it in hand quickly - what a difference a few more caches found makes! TFTC.

23-Feb-16
Tried solving this one a year or 2 ago with no luck at ground zero, with a few more puzzles and geocaches under our belts we tried again today, quickly had the geocache in hand in no time. TFTC.

#1571. After a morning of Christmas presents and indulgence on Christmas treats I needed a break in the afternoon. So headed over to Petone for a spot of caching in the sun. Noticed this one on the GPS so decided to have a go. I did make harder work of it than I needed to. Firstly I went to the wrong sign board and so thought it would not be possible to answer the questions. But luckily spotted the one that mattered just before I left. Unluckily, on a Christmas Day with Petone looking like a ghost town, you guessed it. There was a muggle sitting right in front of the sign board. Well I photographed the sign and went back to the car to solve. But realised I needed to come back to get one or two more answers. The muggle was still there so went and did another cache then came back later to complete the calculations for this one. However a bad misread of the description meant I headed off to find the cache only to discover I was staring at a private residence. Walking back to the car I saw something that looked plausible and on checking it out discovered the cache some distance from where I thought it should be. Signed the logbook and headed home. Just before logging the cache online I read the description again and oh yes I had stuffed up the numbers. I was not expecting an EEF! Thanks for the cache and showing me a bit of Petone history.

22-Nov-15
Found the info without too much fuss, and the final was a nice quick find. Plenty of great posters around Jackson St at the moment, highlighting the history of the area. Great to see. TFTC

04-Sep-15
No problem with this one, all in order, TFTC

19-May-15
Had this one partially worked out years ago. Made the effort to finish it a couple of months ago but still never quite got around to looking for it. Some things move slowly in the Orsome4some geocaching file. Anyway, not to worry. Tonight was the night. Easy find once muggles departed. Tftc.

16-May-15
Went out with LCBuilder to grab a puzzle for my 2000th cache! Couldn't find the answer to JF but made an educated guess and off we went. Arrived at somewhere that looked promising and then after a minute or two of searching there was the cache! Nice puzzle, TFTC!

16-May-15
Very cold out tonight, found cache all safe and sound! Thanks for the cache Smile

10-May-15
It never fails to impress me how busy the Jackson Street area is at all times of day or night. What a success story it is! This meant stealth was definitely required at GZ and it took a little time to replace the cache after we had found it. TFTC

14-Jan-15
Nice hide . now off to the movies.tftc.

09-Jan-15
finding the required sign board took a bit but once spotted it stook out like the proverbial on a short haired dog! a quick miscalculation of the final had me a thousand km out... after a quick sanity check I was off and soon had the cache in hand Very Happy tftc

20-Dec-14
At long last! I think I may have spent almost a year trying to get this one. First it was an inability to see the signboard (thinking it was actually inside the jail and being frustrated that it was never open). Then it was a failure of me updating the coordinates and looking in the wrong place on a couple of occasions. Then it came down to a misinterpretation of one of the clues which had me looking in a different wrong place. In the end I used an online tool to show me possible locations and I picked the one that made the most sense (and matched one of my possible solutions).

Pretty quiet this morning at the GZ (given the location) and I was able to park up right next to it. It was almost an anti-climax putting my hands on the cache, but I'm pleased to finally have this one marked off. It gets a favourite just for the effort I put myself through. TFTC

21-Nov-14
started solving a couple of days ago. Missed one bit of info so guessed. Wrong! After further research was able to proceed to right place which was quiet in morning. Was expecting a bigger container! Found on day 7 of 10 day puzzle challenge. TFTC

17-Aug-14
Early morning - missed the parking area nearby, took a longer walk than necessary to co-ords, and then took a while to locate the info. Woke up, collected info, walked the shortest distance to the cache and found it no trouble. tftc

16-Aug-14
All good. Interesting history. Tftc.

10-Aug-14
Started this yesterday, got to GZ, very busy with Muggles and Cars coming and going, did a quick search, but my cords slightly off, Went back early this morning Muggle free, with adjusted cords hands straight on it, one spot I did look yesterday, as fitted the clue, But way smaller container than mentioned, hence why I didn't see it yesterday !,

01-Aug-14
Finally got to GZ today after previously obtaining the answers, had to wait for a few muggles to come and go but once alone the cache was quickly spotted and retrieved. Tftc Smile

@BrenFM - Have a look around the vicinity for another sign, I had to check a couple of answers before heading to the final, the sign is definitely still there.

01-Aug-14
The main size has been replaced!!! None of the clues are relevant anymore. The sign is temporary for heritage month September 2014

15-May-14
This one was a bit of a nemesis. First when I went to the station, I was unable to find the board with the details on, so I answered the questions I could and had headed back to the car only to then drive past and see it plain as day. Stopped and walked back for a second squizz. After working out the Co-ordinates I did a quick rec'y of the GZ only to find people coming and going. Second time back at the GZ after dark with Jax479, we hunted high and low in all the possible areas we thought it might be by torch light, including even some of the signage, but it was not to be. We even had a couple of couples come back to their cars so had to duck down till they drove away. Finally after two discussions with previous cache finders, we were certain we had the correct spot so back down after 9.30pm on our third trip back there. After delving a little deeper than we had previously, the cache was located. TFTC With JAx479

Coordinates were a bit off but after using the hint found the cache.
This is day 1 of my 10 day mystery challenge.

26-Apr-14

14-Feb-14
Finally! This one drove me bonkers. Solved quite easily, but couldn't locate.

TFTC! Smile

10-Feb-14
My third attempt at this one. I suspect on my first try the cache was missing after which I turned a spelling mistake in the hint into a cunning clue that meant exactly the opposite of what it said Surprised. Much travelling around Petone then ensued. Back in my right mind (after some months) I started again from the beginning. This time I had no trouble (well I did have to use a mirror to spot the cache) but its certainly not the difficultly four I was making it into. Before work is a good time to avoid the muggles. Thanks for replacing the cache Yeetrees.

08-Feb-14
Yay. First to sign the replacement log. Happy days

08-Feb-14
Acting as taxi driver today. New log tftc

26-Jan-14
Replaced cache at final GZ.

Please rehid well

12-Jan-14
Had a good hunt. Couldn't locate. Been ages since someone found it. .... Could the owner confirm it is still in situ?

11-Jan-14
Very confident solved it correctly and we were looking in the correct place but couldn't find it. It would be great for someone to confirm it is still there.

Thanks!

19-Nov-13
Little bit confusing this one:
1)In the note with the coordinates of the sign no info, only ???
2) the infoboard and the plaques are in different places, right?
3) white benches? Is there a trick? Or 0 is the right answer?
4) is it possible to add any kind of check (like sum or geochecking) for final?
Thanks

Cache # 1,283 - did today with Downunder Wanderer. SOOOO happy to finally have this one done - it has been my nemesis for more than a year. At least 4 trips to the starting point, multiple calculations and re-calculations, trips to areas we thought were right and turned out not to be when we got there. Never did figure out exactly where the calcs went wrong, but stated from scratch again a month ago and came up with the right solution - and then no cache there. Confirmed location with someone who had found it earlier this year, then saw that the cache was getting replaced. Glad it is done and dusted, and I never want to go to Gaol again! TNLNSL.

04-Oct-13
Finally, this has been on our list for a long time. Great to cross it off with the Wandering Dragons. Tftc.

Quick find in the rain this morning. Puzzle solved a couple of weeks back, but no cache to be found. Thanks for the replacement Yeetrees.

A good, fun puzzle.

Replaced logbook and cache in a safer location

18-Sep-13
Please can CO check final is in place as have visited twice and after no joy, asked a recent finder to look as well. He confirmed cache appears MIA.

16-Mar-13
Enjoyed our tour of historic Petone - courtesy Mr Bul (lol). Even found another old police station sadly in need of attention close by where we parked. Just as we signed the log a very obliging yellow admiral landed nearby and we both took pictures prompting the owner of a car parked nearby to get nervous enough to come over and see what was so interesting. A new cache alibi! No gaol for us! PINO TFTC

04-Mar-13
Finally knock it off the list. I was looking here almost a year ago, and walked away disappointed and smelling of cat pee.

An easy find here, can't believe I was so close before.

The Gaol is on one of my regular lunch time walks.
Was interesting stopping to read the info this time.

After a pleasant time collecting information I retreated to the safety of my office to do the calculations.

On approach to GZ (which looked unlikely initially ) I had to wait for multiple muggles, then was an easy grab.

I feel mildly retarded, as I did not see the proper sign just a few meters away from where I was looking. Glad I wasn't alone in missing the obvious though, haha

I must have being a magician in my previous life

For some strange reason when I go and check on a disappearing sign it magical reappears

Interesting indeed

Sounds like that the council is doing thier annual maintence on the signs i the area again

Oh well will keep and eye on it and will bring it back on line shortly

09-Apr-12
Second DNF today....first no cache and this one has no SIGN......where is the info board?????

03-Apr-12
Hmm difficulty locating the sign which has the information. I looked all around the station, could not find any sign with a photo of Petone, nor could I find any information which hinted at answers to the questions.
Is it possible it's been moved yet again?

18-Mar-12
Found with sarahjane20 after we had previously been thwarted here. Felt a little exposed at the final earlier but with the cover of greater numbers in the party we were quickly done Smile

Once the information was found...
Made at least this bit harder than necessary, the final cache was an easy find. But that is the good think about geocaching: You find some information about the history. TFTC

23-Oct-11
I didn't really have any problems with this one but I still felt it took longer than it should have. TFTFC.

Sound the alarm, the prisoners have grabbed the key (to be precise Irac's Key to a Great Cache)- I wanted to put it in this cache some time ago but with a DNF and muggling it was impossible, then I ran across the key again recently so the opportunity arose after all. Took the TB which has the fascinating combination of a turtle and a tank engine, will log that out shortly.

25-Jul-11
It was very cold out tonight so I had an incentive to wrap this one up fairly quickly. The required answers were soon obtained and a posse was sent to the gz where the cache was soon captured.

This cache has been out on the run for quite awhile, so employed sharp eyed detective skills to suss out the clues early in the morning. Sniffy Nose the techno-hound was set on the trail and led off veering from side to side as the trail twisted this way and that. Arriving where the scent was strongest a search was commenced for evidence that the cache had passed by this way. Unfortunately the area become contaminated by muggles so the search was suspended.
Returning well after the onset of darkness, red light technology was utilised to conduct a close visible search of the likely area. Evidence was soon located which led to this Officer making an apprehension and booking of the cache.
As noted for these court proceedings, the cache has been located and locked up again. TFTC

#1890. Found on an evening wander from the new apartment, just down the road. Took a we while to get the coords sorted. At GZ we felt a bit exposed, so decoded hint (partly to check we were in the right spot). Troodles found the cache pretty quickly. TFTC.

About time we researched this cache as it is not far from where we now live. StreetWalker did the number crunching and we were relieved that the maths and research were fruitful.

At approximately 1845 hours acting on research initiated by encoded information from the operation coordinator an investigation was carried out into a report of a suspect being reported to be active in a classified location.
The suspect was soon apprehended and my cover was not blown, though concealment methods had to be invoked during the initial recovery phase.

Previous attempts had been unsuccessful, owing to the suspect having at various times escaped from custody and been concealed out of reach. It is also possible that insufficient attention to concealment methods had been applied.by this operative.

The suspect was released but other operatives are likely to find it desirable to carry out further investigations from time to time.
Acknowlegements to the officer in charge of this operation for planning the operation and providing details of the modus operandi.
(Note: the wording of my original log may have given the impression I had outside help, so changed it to clarify that the information was received in the normal manner!)

Found with Bkj97 but let him work out the puzzle (badly I might add) while I tried on a new outfit across the road. Wondered why we couldn't locate GZ but as we double checked the answers were right but translation of one final was misread and I was led astray yet again. GZ location a little difficult today but a good spot for a hide. T4TCSL

Had a moment or two to spare while LBH was sidetracked and did a bit of retail therapy. Must have been late in the day as the brain was as off as my gps is sometimes (especially when you don't read the final co-ords correctly). After a bit of cruising the back streets of Petone we ended up in the right spot and despite locating a likely hiding spot had no joy. Quick call to owner confirmed we were in the right spot and with the assistance of a small implement managed to extract the cache which had been pushed out of reach. Nabbed and signed and LBH whacked her stamp in the log before departing for dinner as the little blue hen was feeling peckish. Tip for the unwary - there is a little bush with incredibly sticky biddy bid seeds adjacent to GZ which took a considerable amount of time to remove all the bits.TFTCSL Nice to lock this one away.
