Find #7094
Found on March 15, 2023
We are from Abilene, Texas, USA and have come to New Zealand to visit with a friend. We plan on going after different Cache Types while here. We will also find geocaches while going sight seeing.
Thank you, erninz for placing this cache for all to find. We sign log sheets either as Love Cachers or LCers.
Driving over 50 miles to have...
Rusty barbed wire ripping through your clothes...
Curious rattlesnakes that come out of nowhere...
Itchy mosquito bites on every inch of your body...
A 40 mph wind gust blowing sand into your ears, nose and mouth...
Cactus needles getting stuck deep in your hands, arms and legs...
Thorny Mesquite trees scratching you up from head to toe...
Some or all of these things on a hike through 101° heat...
To sign your name or trade a toy...
SOUND LIKE FUN TO YOU?
It does to us, we're geocachers in West Texas! - {Taken from a Greater Abilene Association geocoin.}

Second stage of the day was a visit of the Totara Estate. Interesting introduction to the history of the exportation of frozen meat (lamb, sheep, pork), which started over 140 years ago! We are still used in Switzerland to buy lamb from New Zealand. Would have enjoyed seeing a bit more animals.
After the visit, we took a moment to log the cache. All in good condition.
Thank you for the cache

Driving south from Pareora to Dunedin, a cache every half hour to rest my tired self after a BBQ last night.
I know I've been here before, but obviously didn't find or didn't log.
According to logs, it was last found in January?

On my way back from Christchurch stopped here for a breather and pulled up the phone and realised there was a geocache thx ️
One of several caches I located today, mostly in the Kakanui/Oamaru area before continuing in the direction of Christchurch. I had visited the Totara Estate heritage site and was about to head away when I stopped to look for this cache. It was a very quick find. #4979. TFTC.
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit … we are now parked up in Oamaru, for a couple of days, with a couple of our Grandchildren … went for a drive to Totara Estate to have a look around & to climb to the top of the nearby hill to view the Thomas Brydone Memorial … thought it would be rude not to grab a few caches … found with no issues, log completed & successfully returned … pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally … TFTC ... TN:LN:SL ... #2,071 for us.
Our last day of enjoying the area before heading home. We were on our way to Oamaru for the day, staying at Teschmakers in motorhome. Have gone past here too many times from A to B today was stop yeh. Thanks for this cache ernienz.
Found out in the open but have now put back under stone. Traveling around the southern area

Day 3 of my Geotour.
After a bit of cycling on the A2O it was time to take a circuitous route back to my motel.
One last cache for the day, in the dark. Thankfully a quick find.
Now off into town to find some dinner.

Cache in good condition, nicely camoflaged, pen was included.
My girl got a beautiful butterfly! Thank you so much.

Sure enough someone's need for a container meant it had gone. Replaced yet again but will relocate if there is next time

Great warm and sunny day for a tiki tour north from Dunedin to explore Oamaru. Quick find even though my driving companions don't think you need to leave the vehicle to carry out geocaching.
Thanks for this cache, ernienz.

In Oamaru for the NZ Orienteering Champs and on the way back from an event took the opportunity to call by. Was reading some of the plaques when the CO stopped to lock up and spent some time speaking with him. TFTC
A planned geocaching trip with specific targets in mind.
1: The final 2 caches to fill my D/T grid
2: The last 5 caches available (all in the South Island) to meet the NZ Jasmer challenge GC4R9Z6
3: Get as many caches as possible in a day (Solo)
I had no timetable and only a vague route (Christchurch - Dunedin- Invercargill). So after 20 days of sleeping in my tent/car I arrived home having traveled 4500km and visited some interesting places. Met some great people. I had found over 650 caches. That was a lot of park. Jump out out. Find cache sign and return. Then on to the next. All this done by myself. Also attended an event and had 2 FTF
Mission 1 and 2 were achieved and I had a best day of 153 caches. All this done by myself.
Day 14 Herbert Forrest to Waitaki 51 caches found today. Missions completed by now so caching my way back up the island. Interesting facts here. Thank you for the placement

Took a group of Geocachers out from Waitaki Girls High School and picked up a few local caches TFTC
Auf dem Weg von Lake Tekapo nach Dunedin haben wir am Wegesrand die Dosen eingesammelt. Diese konnten wir gut finden. Danke fürs Legen,
Today we moved from O. to D., had many interesting experiences and found some caches. This one was easy to find. Unfortunately it was too early for sightseeing !
On our way from Oamaru to Dunedin we stopped to find this geocache. Around 10:57 we signed the log.
I was down in Otago for the long weekend to attend the Oamaru Geofest and today drove back down to Dunedin, finding a few caches as I went. This was a nice quick park and grab along the way. TFTC!
Came down this way from the North for the Oamaru Geofest, and decided to add a few more days to the weekend trip and turn it into a bit of a Mega mission, starting 5pm on Wednesday 18th and finishing 3pm Monday 23rd! Teaming up with Cats&Dragons for the first 24 hours then with Iammrwalker joining the team for the remainder.
Just a few of the stats for the trip were:
- 700 caches found, including 270+ puzzles (thanks to the Christchurch Geoart)
- 3300 km's driven, using over 500L of fuel $$$
- Just over 20 hours of sleep (about 4 per day on average), and about 100 hours of caching time.
Certainly a Mega Trip!
Day 5: With a good nights sleep for the first time this trip, we were up early and out the door for another full days caching. The goal for today was to cache our way down to the Moeraki Boulders and then see where the next cache lead us. One thing we were looking out for today was caches which hadn't been found in a long time.
Sorry about the cut and past logs, but that seems to happen with cache runs of this size!

I found this Geocache on a Geocaching mega mission along with Cats&Dragons and HKCB. With only just over three and half thousand Geocache finds I was very much the over achiever in training. We were in the South Island to support the Oamaru Geofest event, hunt down some Jasmar and D/T harder to find Geocaches, lonely caches (those not found in more than 6 months), virtuals and try and meet some milestone numbers. We signed the logs HIC, an abbreviation of our respective Geocaching names, (H)KCB, (I)ammrwalker and (C)ats&dragons. A huge thanks to all the CO’s who placed and maintain the Geocaches we found.
I arrived in Christchurch late Thursday evening having left straight from work and was picked up by my intrepid companions in our four wheel drive rental to find they had already grabbed about 270 finds in the previous twenty four hours. I wonder if the rental company would have still let us have it had they known we would travel 3300km in it before returning it four days later? Our trip took us to Greymouth via Arthurs pass, Ngahere, down the west coast to Haast across to Hawea, Cromwell, Twizel, Aoraki Mt Cook, Tekapo, onto the east coast up to Oamaru and back up to Christchurch via Akaroa and countless diversions and small towns along the way. We slept in the car for the first two nights, grabbing some shut eye between cache finds, taking turns to drive. We rented a small place in Oamaru for the other two nights and appreciated a bed to sleep in and a hot shower. It was an amazing trip, in which I discovered the South Island has some of the most incredible scenery in the world.
Log was pretty much mush, we did our best to sign it.

I thought I had logged all our Omaru caches but no Mr watcache found 2 pages I had missed. We left Fielding Thursday night 19th October and flew to Christchurch got a few caches in the area then headed towards Omaru for the first event for the weekend so nice catching up with geocachers we knew and geocachers we didn't. next day another event the geofest another great turnout then it was time to cache, the next day another event but a CITO by the beach lovely spot so glad to see that area great art work all around and a nice clean area and many more caches to find while there then it was off to get some more caches along the roads off the roads around didn't areas, it was very quiet in this area made it a lovely day to cache weather has been kind. a nice find signed the log and placed it back exactly where we found it. Thank you for placing a cache here, its a lovely area, then we headed off to the meet and greet Wellington event and had a great gathering of geocaches and a lovely meal then quickly headed off to another CITO event planting plants the views were amazing so glad we attended this event even though we were very tired after it. We headed back to our accommodation for a rest and a drink. TFTC a great day we had. Log was wet
Found a spot to write my name. Quick find where all good at GZ. Thanks for another smilie.
Did you know that planning has started for a Mega Event in Wellington in 2018? Check out the details on the [Wellington Event NZ (WENZ) Website](https://sites.google.com/site/wenzgeo2018/home) or visit the event’s page on [FaceBook](https://www.facebook.com/groups/590545297801072/)
Thanks to the Cache Owner who has gone to the trouble of creating this cache, determining the coordinates and then averaging them to make sure they are accurate, placing the cache and registering it online for our enjoyment. Without Cache Owners doing their bit, there wouldn’t be a fun hobby that we all love - so again a big THANK YOU. For our bit, all we need to do is find and log the cache that was carefully placed for our personal enjoyment. As we log it we should consider that the Cache Owner also needs to maintain it - when the log sheet fills up, they must replace it. When the container becomes full of water, they need to empty it. When the container is broken, they need to repair it. When it goes missing they need to find or replace it. Well..... the great news is we can do our bit too - make sure your log doesn’t take an entire page - just a name and date. If full of water, empty and dry the cache as best as possible. Be careful when handling the cache and make sure you replace it where you found it. If it has a bag, seal it. Just remember - the Cache Owner showed respect to you by placing the cache - please respect them and fellow cachers that follow you by being careful with the cache. And if you have a spare log sheet and the cache you are at needs one, please leave it behind. Finally, if the cache does need maintenance, please let the Cache Owner know - you can log a Maintenance Log or you can drop a line to the Cache Owner. Above all - have fun and remember the Geocaching Code. .

A nice easy find heading south. Unfortunately the news log is too soaked to write on. I managed to find room on the full, waterproof, log to get our initials on.

Bbear44 and I were spending a few days in Oamaru getting things organised for the geofest.
This is our second full day. We will be camping in Herbert during the geofest. We decided to drive and have a look and on the way look for a few more geocache.
A pity we didn't have time to go in.
Find out more about New Zealand's next big event [Oamaru Geofest](http://oamarugeofest2017.wixsite.com/geocachingevent) and come and join us.
Thanks. ernienz for putting in the effort to hide this geocache. This was find 5074 for me.

I was on the way from Oamaru to Dunedin ....
This was a not a beautiful, sunny day ... only some sunny minutes I strolled over to ground zero and searched for a short time and found the container. The coords are right on the mark.
The cache is in good condition and the log paper is nice and dry. I took nothing, left nothing, and signed the log paper.
I carefully replaced the cache right back where we found it.
*thanks to erninz for your cache*
