With rustynz thanks for the hide

With rebel98 on a whirlwind overnight stay in Dunedin Big Grin

We were so close to phoning the CO as the cache was being very elusive. It was a random find by rebel98 who found it after I had been searching for about 20 minutes whilst he was taking a phone call!

So happy to find, then the next part we had done before, but could we remember? no, so I you-tubed the answer, and at last the log revealed itself.

A fun puzzle, a few frustrations along the way, but was very happy to turn this one into a smiley.

Thanks for the puzzle and hide Barti Ddu (aka Cumbyrocks)

It took me a while to work out the coordinates, and quite a while to find the cache even though it was right where the GPSr was indicating. I avoided the sea lion sleeping in the grass and took the long way around to the indicated spot. Then once I'd found the bucket, I had to resort to YouTube to open the puzzle box. Felt somewhat frustrated afterwards. But glad to have found this mystery cache.

Knowing that the Wednesday walkers were going to be in this area, I relooked at the puzzle and soon had it solved. Once we were in the area thanks to Daywalk, I realized I needed to add the way points as the newer checkers do it for you. I-got_it spotted the container first but I got to open the log book first. While she was telling the story of having found others like this I had it opened, which she closed again to try and open it... thanks for the cache, but I came in biddy bids that a combined affect was needed to remove them before I went to work. well worth a fav from me.

I was one of the extra pairs of eyes searching for this back ion 29-6-17 when it wasn't found. Back then I hadn't solved it and since then I still haven't. However, today we were walking past and P&Vee was determined to look for it so I joined in sans the coordinates. After a few minutes I mentioned that I had found it and stood were I was several metres away to let P&Vee make the find. I now have a good hint on how to progress with solving the puzzle. Thanks for the cache.

Some snow showers, rain, a couple of sea lions and a false start where we realised there was a much easier way, and the container was found. Aaargh me hearties, there's a field puzzle- I'd forgotten about that. A little while later the puzzle was sprung and the welcome log discovered. By now the rain had disappeared, and there was only wind and flying sand for the walk back. All good fun. Thanks Cumbyrocks!

This was double hard as I set out from the carpark after the sun had set and with a stiff wind threatening rain. Even though the cache is large by torchlight it was a meddle in haystack find. Was actually cursing the CO when I practically stumbled over the cache. Great puzzle, never knew that code till now.

Solved this fun puzzle awhile ago (probably during lockdown). Out today to finally sign this one off. Was some rain about but I got very wet from the grass at GZ. I was thinking I was following a geotrail but realised it hasn’t been found for 2 years so was then weary of sea lions as I had to abandon a search at another cache earlier for that reason. Coast was clear and eventually made the find. Had no trouble accessing the log. Cache all good - nice and dry. Fav from me. Tftc

Took a while to open. Fiddle fiddle then it was just open. Have had a few goes at solving this puzzle and finally solved yesterday as I was coming out this way to get Natalie’s 2019 placed cache.
Maybe it was just experience of solving some puzzles.
I took a while to find the cache as well. But knew it must be there somewhere. As was found not too long ago.

10-Aug-18
Fabulous! I am not sure if I actually solved the puzzle correctly, but my wee ideas sure worked.

It was quite the interesting walk to GZ! Really good views. We came from the 'back-side' then back along the 'front-side' Super warm and only a small breeze. Finding the cache was tricky, but it wasn't long before we laid eyes on it - though we must have walked right past it three times!! Getting into the log book was actually easy as I have seen these boxes around not so long ago!

Thanks for this cache!

Fun puzzle to solve. Enjoyed finding the stash at a great location.
Found on a day caching with POB, SW, TT, and GV.

Are me hearties we done the treasure with Captain Bruce,First mate Penny, ships master Granville. The deckhands Tuitigger and searchwisely. And last but least POB the cook. After being marooned on this deserted spot for we made it back civilisation as freemen with plenty of booty. Thanks for saving us.

So pretty first thing this morning, not a breath of wind and the sun was shining on the way out, the wind had picked up on our return. I'd love to have a home all the way out here. Found with MrandMrs Chosen, POB, Granville and Tuitigger. TFTC

Shiver me timbers... we walked the plank to the treasure... thar she goes... just as the Jolly Rodger sailed past.

On a mission with Natalie247 and eve07 and we were discussing this cache on our walk back along the beach after finding a challenge cache. Stop, pause, engage and soon after we had the correct coordinates staring back at us. Awesome team effort and a very enjoyable walk to retrieve the cache. Did take a little while to locate but once in the right place it was very noticeable to the cachers eye! TFTC

Down this way today and we managed to solve this one. A lovely day to see the wildlife basking in the sun. TFTC Barti Ddu

Finally nabbed this one -- at least the third time. Last time we had several pairs of eyes, including some past finders, but no luck. This time we had 3 pairs of eyes, including two past finders, and it still took us far too long to find it. Certainly the rest of the Wednesday Walkers were a bit grumpy when we finally emerged triumphant.

TNLN. TFTC. (And a favourite from me.)

Very pleased with myself here. I've had the code solved for quite a while but then really questioned the wisdom of coming to find it today especially with the last log saying two previous finders couldn't find it again. Still I was here so off I set. I was armed with my walking pole and trusty poking stick but didn't need them as I identified an area of interest when I arrived and promptly stood on top of the cache. Still made that glorious plastic thud! A well stocked treasure chest indeed. An obvious favourite. TFTC # 12,453

29-Jun-17
Solved the puzzle a long time ago, and had a brief look fairly soon thereafter, but no joy then. Did not log a DNF then, as I had not given it a decent shot.

Returned today with 3 extra pairs of eyes, including two previous finders, but still no joy. Marram grass and other vegetation seriously overgrown, but, even so, it is difficult to lose a container of that size.

Avast me hearties! Indeed it be treasure we seek. Agreed upon th' scurvy pirate Articles 'n boarded th' vessel to sail to far distant lands. We came ashore on some deserted beach 'tis afternoon 'n set out to find th' treasure chest. As we approached th' spot marked wit' an X a strange powerful smell assailed our nostrils. Movin' cautiously we carried on 'n found th' lovely booty. We avoided th' curse by puttin' our mark in th' book t' stake our claim. We then snuck back below onto th' beach 'n carried on walkin'. Some time later we came across th' guardian 'o th' lovely booty sunnin' himself on th' beach aft a swim. Not wantin' to show ourselves by walkin' between him 'n th' sea, we had no choice but to turn 'n retrace our steps.
Hearty thanks fer th' adventure.

As usual it was up to debsnz to solve and at GZ we both spotted the large container at the same time. It's been a year since this one was last found and all is dry inside. A bonus for us was watching a large container ship go past as we wandered back along the beach. Found with debsnz

It was only recently that I was reminded of this cache and after having the obvious pointed out to me, it was a quick solve (how did I not realise that before!) We picked a nice day, with a low tide for a walk along the beach and our co-ords proved to be spot on. Being a bit of a treasure hunt meant that we also had to solve the final puzzle and thankfully AorakiSheep proved his worth by retrieving the log book. Found with AorakiSheep.

22-Nov-15
Found with Hevic. I'd had this puzzle solved for a long time, so it was only a matter of time before I planned a trip out to grab it. After a rather good walk and a quick climb, I almost stumbled over it. And what a cache! Rather impressively put together, and I loved the contents as well - a favourite for the cache alone. Cheers!

22-Nov-15
Yarr, we came upon the stash with CJ_Curry after a long trek through the sand in the hot sun.
The treasure was mighty difficult to retrieve, it took all me brain power.

Removed some questionable booty, pirates should know better than smoking at sea!

Felt like going for a bit of a drive today so decided to pick this one off. Thanks Smile

A few years ago I wanted to hide a cache close to where the final of this cache is. Of course, I didn't know the final was here at that time and was interested to be told by a reviewer that my proposed spot was less than 161m from the final of this cache. If I had drawn a 161m circle around my proposed cache a large part of it was in the water so, at the time, I considered searching what was left to see if I could turn this cache up without solving the puzzle. Not sure if I would have been successful or not but with the puzzle eventually solved (nowhere near as difficult as I initially feared) it was off to find it the conventional way. Quick find once at GZ. Fortunately the 'puzzle' to access the logbook was straightforward (sorry, as far as I'm concerned the object of the game is to find the cache, not the logbook. The logbook merely exists to prove you found the cache). Then it was off to hide a new cache in the area. Met an old colleague who I hadn't seen for years and had a good chat. All in all, a pleasant outing on a pleasant afternoon. TFTC.

YAY! Second time success!! And another one of those 'how is it possible that I did not see THIS the first time round?!'... Razz We went for a revisit this morning before the weather has any chance of packing in as promised. Put on so many layers that we did not even notice the cold, just the sand blowing into the eyes. Even the grass was completely dry unlike the last time, in spite of the heavy downpour yesterday - must have all gotten blow away by the gales [B)] We decided that we do like winter, as you can always put another layer on, and the air is so much fresher Big Grin Excellent bird watching this morning too, I don't think have have seen such numbers or such variety for some time. Great cache, very nicely themed, definitely a favourite - would deserve two fav points, one for each visit Wink

Have worked out the info about the whereabouts of the pirate treasure a while ago, and this morning seemed like a good day to go and get it. Great venture to gz in the dark, with the light coming through by the time I arrived. Yep, it will be right there. Nope. How about there. Nope. Ok, 35 mins later still nothing, in spite of a few really good places. By then I was completely wet from head to toe. Waited for the sun to rise completely, but by then I was freezing in the wet shoes and clothes. Great adventure getting there but rather disappointed about dnf's ing when I should have been doing some marking - and a find would of course have made worthwhile procrastination.

08-Sep-13
Although after a nice stroll out to the site we almost had to give up the search when we found a seal basking about 5m away from GZ! We managed to find a back way in that avoided disturbing him and found the cache. Needless to say we got that puzzle done quickly with a background of displeased grunts coming from over the burm.
Thanks for the fun puzzle and adventure!!

Found at 11:05:00 a.m. on 24/12/2012.

Eventually solved this cache after a few false starts, it's now been sitting on my solved list for a while so a nice sunny Christmas Eve provided an excuse to storm the pirate citadel and avoid walking the plank.

A great cache, well worth a favourite from me.

Arrived at about full tide but still able to drive to the batches. A good walk around the point to GZ and the treasure was soon reached. A great spot to visit in the early morning calm conditions. TFTC

Arrrggghh me hearties!! There has been some plundering and looting going on. The scoundrel pirate Captain Elliot A-haaa! from the shores way north of here has landed on these shores and discovered Barti Dhu's secret loot. He has taken up camp where the stash has been hidden and enjoying all the spoils. Shipmates and landlubbers alike are asked to make their way to Barti Dhu's lair and send this interloper on his way!!

Many thanks for the heads up on the map Bitsprayer. A new map is now in place, though whether or not you actually need it to solve the puzzle is something I'll take to Davies Jones Locker.

Found the hide this time (how did I miss that last time?) and signed the book shortly thereafter. Awesome spot. Nice ramble down the beach. Watched a seal swimmingabout under the jetty.

DNF. I'll be back!

18-Jan-11
Solved ages ago, found easily this time by Miss 9, rushed back to beat the incoming tide and the rain. Enjoyed the walk along the beach. Will be back tomorrow to hunt for the other set of car keys. If anyone happens to find a bunch of keys on a silver clip, they're ours. TFTC Big Grin

18-Jan-11
Second go at this after the phone stopped working at the car park last time. Wonder what time us04 were here as I certainly didn't beat the rain or the tide. Got thoroughly soaked by wet marram grass trying to short cut and then had great fun dodging the waves! Wandered and wondered around in circles for a few minutes before stumbling across the cache (nice!). Only took about a minute to open the box - fortunately I was vaguely familiar with this type of thing. Nicely hidden, nicely stocked and nice size - well done! The icing on the cake was watching some sea lions frolicking in the waves!

14-Dec-10
Cache reasonably quick to find- saw the glitter shining through the covering vegetation!
I muddled about with the log container with no success until I received help from the CO.
Just a light touch required for it to spring open.

The ignominious failure of our first expedition gave us two daywalks a splendid reason to bike back out to Aramoana this Sunday morning. This time the treasure chest practically jumped out at us. It is only two paces (as the pirate's parrot flies) from GZ and we were literally walking round and round it last visit. Admired the pirate mark! Then we passed the pirate logbook chest back and forth between us in growing desperation- we could see where it would open, but couldn't find the hidden catch. Then, just as we were about to cry parlay, it opened. A superb spot to bring us to Wink and another beautifully designed cache- thanks Cumbyrocks.

Another example of cache finding taking you places you wouldn't normally go. it was a great day and Guwapo, Mama and Papa, went treasure hunting in the company of Red Panda and the woofers. Guwapo was happy playing on the beach so it was left to Papa and Red Panda to find the stash. A large bucket full of booty was found. Left behind some bumper stickers. Thanks for the cache!! A very nice hide.

Opps almost forgot to log this one. Found with a lot of help from Guwapo A brilliant day out and I must come back here again in the summer.

17-Jul-10
A pleasant wander at dead low tide, but a search of the magic blue circle around GZ found no treasure chest. Tried calling parlay, but had to move on since the senior crew member was getting cold. The whole area was very well-trampled- maybe child muggles have plundered it? or maybe we were wearing pirate patches over both eyes again? We'll see what luck future marauders have.

PS- have just found out what that puzzling "Ddu" means- this is obviously a Welsh pirate...

TFTC. Lucky there was phone reception..............just to get a kick in the right direction!!!! Saw some lions in the bushes.......meaning sea lions!! Had fun looking through all the pirate goodies.

FTF at 10.50am plus 3 mins 50 secs to then get the log book from it's cute wee container.
Many thanks, yet again, to nzcoozer for his help in finding the co-ordinates last night when it was published.
A ship with piles of logs was departing while we were at the cache so we got photos of the coin and the TBs with the ship in the background.
The co-ordinates were 8m out for us, but there was heavy cloud cover. We had 4m accuracy.
Lots of fun on a fine, but very cool winter's morning. 7 degrees, but no wind, making it rather pleasant.
