Day 6: The Road to OamaruTodays journey was a long one, bringing us from the South up to the northern part of Otago, via Middlemarch. Todays blustery conditions added to the fun and challenge of finding caches, though otherwise the weather remained perfect. The highlight of the day were the Sutton Salt Lake cache and the Moeraki Boulders, and both did not disappoint. Thanks to all the COs for making this leg of the journey an enjoyable one! (End of the cut and paste bit)Heres the specific log for this cache:I suppose there is always a need to use the facilities and as the whole family headed in, I had a nice seat outside and dug up the cache. I love these convenient smileys. TFTC!
My son has just got a job working at Macraes in the chemistry lab at the gold mines. We wanted to come out here and explore the place a bit. We didn't see much of the mines quarry but we did see some fantastic huge trucks. I also really enjoyed seeing all the stone used as fence posts, stays, buildings, walks, footpath edges. Took the chance to grab this one on the way to the loos. Thanks for the cache
went to the pub for dinner. great blue cod meal then saw this cache was nearby. oops no pen. photo attached
Quick find. Log and container as previously described, totally munted. New log in small pill bottle to replace. TFTC.
I'm no longer in a position to be able to maintain this cache, so if the next person planning a visit could perhaps donate a small container (film pot size) and logbook to replace the existing one, that would be very helpful. Otherwise I will have to archive it, which would be a shame as its popular and useful! Many thanks if you can help. Happy caching! Jamie
Found the cache container inside the plastic bag, with top of container broken and log totally waterlogged, so couldn't sign the log (didn't even attempt to take the log out of the container). Found with Flamingo4850.
Found with mangoambs while touring otago. Nice spot. Thank you for the cache. Couldn't sign as cache beyond repair
Yes I did... I sat for a while, but cache is flushed. Required a new dunny roll.
2020 hasn't been the best year for geocaching for a number of reasons so we decided a road trip from Dunedin was in order.
Caching our way from Palmerston, through Macraes and back to Mosgiel via Middlemarch.
Found but container drenched i side plastic bag.
Find count: 2105

While enjoying the Great weather we are having, wandered up to this cache with P& Vee and 1sophie1, found it easily enough. Especially after a few at the Macraes Hotel, Well worth a visit.
Out on a road trip with VDH56 and 1sophie1 and various non cachers. First for the day log book is wet but managed to write in it. Thanks for the cache but the toilets were closed.
The facilities weren't required but I stopped anyway. Quick find. Log pretty full now. Tftc.

The loo stop came in handy. A quaint historical township. JDScout and I are on a pre Xmas campervan holiday. Geocaching is on my agenda. We both like biking and walking too. Thanks jamien for placing this geocache it is find 8041 for me.
Sadly there was no large event in New Zealand in 2019 but there are a few Mega events planned in Australia. New Zealand will have another large event in 2020 in Auckland.
======== NZ Mega 2020 ========
Planning for the NZ Mega 2020 event is well underway. It will be held in Auckland over Labour Weekend, 23 to 26 October 2020. Thanks for hiding this geocache.

A planned geocaching trip with specific targets in mind.
1: The final 2 caches to fill my D/T grid
2: The last 5 caches available (all in the South Island) to meet the NZ Jasmer challenge GC4R9Z6
3: Get as many caches as possible in a day (Solo)
I had no timetable and only a vague route (Christchurch - Dunedin- Invercargill). So after 20 days of sleeping in my tent/car I arrived home having traveled 4500km and visited some interesting places. Met some great people. I had found over 650 caches. That was a lot of park. Jump out out. Find cache sign and return. Then on to the next. All this done by myself. Also attended an event and had 2 FTF
Mission 1 and 2 were achieved and I had a best day of 153 caches. All this done by myself.
Day 8 Rakiaia to Middlemarch 18 caches found including one of the target caches. Went and sat somewhere else for awhile. Thank you for the placement.

Nice dry log. A quick p&g on our way to Mosgiel after the weekend in Alexandra & Ophir for my Dad’s 90th Birthday.
TFTC
No I didn't need the toilet but it's always handy to know where they are.
Visiting Ranfurly and on a bit of a tiki tour. Had a coffee and a chat with the lady at Stanley's Hotel. Then went to the toilet to get the cache. Thanks.

Didn't have a pencil but not sure I would have been brave enough to remove the log book as I am not sure I would have got it back in! TFTC.

Found as described, once phone gps settled.
mr-mrs-geoboy and Granville caching around Middlemarch for the weekend

By the time we were heading home (our temporary home in Oamaru) from the Sutton Salt Lake geocache we were looking forward to arriving at this cache. Before other necessities though we needed to find the cache which fortunately we did quite quickly. We signed the log and replaced all as found before visiting the nearby building. Thanks for placing the cache here jamien. It was a very appreciated location. Cheers!
Returning from Middlemarch area we needed to stop here for 2 reasons. Firstly the cache was found and signed with no concerns then secondly making use of the facilities. Thanks jamien.
TFTC. On a big loop road trip with kotukuSI from the Oamaru GeoFest we headed towards Macres, Middlemarch and Naseby.
Big beautiful scenery with a nice collection of caches to pickup.
Thanks jamien for placing this cache.

#14731. A good idea for a cache placement (the toilets are tucked away off the main road). TFTC.
Found with StreetWalkerNZ on day 7 of our road trip to the Oamaru Geofest, taking the scenic route, of course. Today we are travelling from Dunedin to Oamaru, via Middlemarch.
We didn't, actually but we did find the cache. An interesting wee place. TFTC.

TFTC - Geocaching today with NZ Bozzy - quickly found. Enjoying the area on a beautiful winters day.
And also enjoyed the lovely clean toilets. 3 clean toilets seemed an over kill today but I guess they have lots of visitors to this town at times. Pub is shut on Mondays so remember to bring your own lunch if you come on a long weekend as we have.

Today our cycletour of NZ takes us from Palmerston to Middlemarch, and naturally we have to log a few caches along the way . Tftc!
oh yep amazing toilets - even had heating on.
Nice road trip today to try out the new radio and to try and escape the bad weather in town.

Haven't been this way for a few years decided to show my youngest son. He was fascinated by the trucks at the mine.
#1548 Had to feel around a little but found it without too much trouble. Its in good order. TFTC
I found the toilet ok and utilised it. At the corner though I had no luck what so ever. I'm sure that it has gone awol.
Tftc. Handy place for a hide. Looked at the clue & just took a 'shot' at it without the GPS. Haven't seen a container like this one before. Cool!
Tftc and a bonus of clean quality public loo.

Heafudd M let the bag go and had to throw himself into the long grass to save it, much to my amusement. This hobby is never boring. TFTC
At this stage, we sure did! Lovely looking pub on the corner, too. What time do we clock off?
