Drove across from Wombeyan caves. Road is passable but there are closed signs up past the causeway. Quick find here after emerging from the tunnel.
OCW Stumble's Mate today to clean up some more caches in and around the Goulburn area. We cleaned up the Mt Grey series and after refueling, out to Crookwell and home via Wombeyan Caves Road and so glad we did!! These views are magnificent!

After cleaning up the Mt Grey series and stopping for a bite to eat, we decided to head out to Crookwell and home via Wombeyan Caves. Some of the views we had along the way were magnificent, so if you are thinking of heading out this way......do it!
Epic day out and all caches found were in good condition.
Thanks to CO's for their hides!

#6022 (15 of 19 today)
Well, it’s been a while since I had an all day Cache binge, and also since I headed to the Southern Highlands- well lately the two things go hand in hand.
So to keep my finds moving I was hoping for at least 15 finds today.
But another problem... I only have 207 points in the Cache Carnival event. And I need 500 by April 15 to get the final souvenir. So I was also hoping for at least 100 points today, and targeted a few caches worth 25 points each. Looks like I got a touch over 130!
Pity I had two DNFs in the mix.
Still, I met the day’s targets. Can’t say fairer than that.
###END OF CUT AND PASTE SECTION###
I love this spot. Such a great tunnel, and you *could* walk over it. I do wonder why they didn’t just blast a gap in the ridge, but I’m glad they didn’t.
Quick find in the logical spot. Signed replaced and back to *The Hademobile*.
Gets a favourite for the location.

The tunnel is always a great landmark as you make the trek to the caves, easy find.
15,244. Found on a Christmas Eve drive up through the Wombeyan Caves region with minniek.
After finishing the Earthcache we headed off along the road for more fun. I have driven the WC Road a few times before but minniek hasn't - so it was fun to watch her reaction to the drive !! Lol. This was the next find. Quick find at GZ. Signed the log, replaced the cache, and we headed of to the next one.
Thanks The Bushies !! Always enjoy visiting the tunnel !

A cement truck had come down this way, just in front of me, and I never saw where it went to, hopefully not over the edge somewhere .
It has been decades since I last came this way, and that time it was a long slog on a pushie coming the other way with camping gear.

Taking the long way to Sydney Justjessie and I first finished off he Taragla Trek series and then the caches along the Wombeyan Caves Road. Thanks for all the CO's was the first time along this road and we enjoyed it very much.
Is there a better way to spend a lovely winter day than out and about geocaching with some lovely friends? I think not!! Headed out with HappyUke, Halcyon123 and our brilliant driver for the day, Finalf29, tackling the Wombeyan Caves road/Taralga trek. Felt very professional - we even had little pre-made stickers for the log books at the ready! Managed to get 48 for the day - definitely a new personal record Much thanks to my GeoPals for an awesome day and to the COs for well situated and maintained caches.

Another geocaching day for the girls (Halcyon123, Nacki22 and me), this time we were going to tackle the Wombeyan caves/ Taralga circuit. Finalf29 decided to come along as well and thank goodness he did... we couldn't have asked for a better chauffeur. A BIG thank you to all the CO's of these caches... we had the best day with beautiful weather, great caches and wonderful company. Finalf29 and I found 45 for the day.
This was our third for the day. Cool cache. Love the tunnel... great bit of history. Thanks

Today was the day to find the Wombeyan Road caches and the Joadja road caches. Came from Taralga side and ended at Joadja cemetery. Then back to Goulburn down the Hume. The Wombeyan road was not as bad as I thought it would be. Found all caches I looked for, and caches were in good condition. Thanks all for showcasing this area with these hides. Tftc
#1498 Eighteenth of twenty two finds on a Sunday's caching around Berrima, Joadja and Mittagong. Found after a short search TFTC
In the neighbourhood for Elixir Camp II at Camp Wombaroo.
I was ill prepared for writing and the pen in the cache has dried out. If someone has a pencil to drop off that'd be great.

Hey this is a truly fantastic spot! Wonderful what humans can do and this really captures the imagination. The WEEO even got to drive his truck through. TFTC, definitely worth a Fav from me.
Found on the 3 July 2016, delayed posting due to technical (phone and brain) issues. TFTC
Being anticipating the chance to do Joadja and Wombeyan caves caches for some time. Today I finally got around to doing it.
From Goulburn up the Hume towards Berrima I made my way to Joadja and along Wombeyan caves road all the way to Taralga and back home.
Wow! Some amazing sights and some great caches. I was getting low on my supply of favourite points but had no choice but to give a few out along the way! Some great caches!
Favourite for its location
Dropped some trackables along the way and picked up a few too!
Thanks to the cache owners whos caches I found today really well done and hope to see some more around the area for an excuse to come back.
Seven hours later, a few close calls on the bends around the valley, two dead wombats and nearly hitting a roo I'm safe to say I've made it home and can't express how much I enjoyed today!

TFTC,
In the area and so great to escape the world. No phone, TV or even Geocaching, so very good for relaxing, even managed to read a bit of a Novel. On our way home after this weekend of isolation and the temptation got to great after driving past a few green boxes on the GPS. Decided to give in and do a few caches.
After traveling through the tunnel, I made a quick find. Visited trackables.

Was interesting reading some of the names in the tunnel, and on the caves side what a marvelous rock face!!! thanks for the hide.

This is an amazing piece of roadwork. I was last out at Wombeyan in 2011, and remember at the time thinking someone should put a cache near this spot. Of course, soon after that trip, someone did . Five years later, I'm back to find it.
Thanks

The sixteenth cache of day one of the trip to Wombeyan Caves with my wife, Toriaz and bikerbuddy.
You have to wonder why they chose this spot to make that structure instead of finding an alternative route.
A nice easy find just away from prying eyes.

Not as long as other tunnels - the tunnels along the track to Newnes for instance - but talking about size is such a boy thing to do that I will just say that I was still very impressed by this tunnel, and that we got to drive through it. The cache was nice and easy, too. Thanks
What a beautiful piece if engineering.

Heading home from a weekend of Navshield at Wombeyan Caves with the SES. A few die-hard geocachers opted to come home via this windy route where we picked up this series of caches and a few others along the way.
Thanks to the CO's for the caches.

I found this cache as a joint part of “Team” *Throsbyonchurch* and in which name the log book was signed. I now have my own account as I’m old enough to cache myself, so I am claiming a fair share of my earlier finds. As I had no caching name at the time there's no log in the book for me but I’m claiming the find under team ToC. Thank you for the hide.
Arrived at 4:00pm and spent quite some time hunting for this cache, mainly because I was a bit bearing confused. Eventually had CIH, SL and returned to hide'y hole. Hot day today and had intentions to head down to Wollondilly River for a splash, but that didn't seem to happen. Got to the tunnel to pick up a cache and fire trucks from all over the district rushed passed. I was standing on the very edge of the road at the gully and one old tanker came right over to me, siren wailing, and near ran me over. One motorbike rider laid his bike down coming around the bend at the tunnel. Got down to the Wollondilly River Views cache and you could smell the smoke and see the smoke. It was getting late so I decided to head home. Thanks for the cache The Bushies.
Grabbed this cache on the way to Wollondilly River Station for a camping holiday. WRS is private land run as a camping area. It is a very beautiful spot, and because it is private land, campfires and dogs are allowed in the camping area. Both of which were a major plus for us. Despite being school holidays, there were only two other groups at the camping area when we arrived and none when we left four days later. The camping area is about one hour to Mittagong so make sure you bring all your supplies (I forgot the milk...).
As an aside, I first discovered this tunnel whilst working for Australia's CSIRO as a research scientist (geomorphology). We were working on a project identifying sediment and nutrient sources to Lake Burragorang for the Sydney Catchment Authority. We had a field site on an old farm site a little upstream of Goodmans Ford where we dated a couple of different phases of alluvial deposition. I'll dig out the paper and put some details in here when I get a chance.

A beautiful setting on a wonderful afternoon, spending a few hours caching around our scenic neighbourhood.
Cache damp, plastic bag torn, no swapables.
Replaced plastic bag with papers, pen inside and left something, signed log.
Many trees down after last storm.

Its a few years since I've been out this way so today I decided to drive out to the tunnel. Arrived just after the rain so didn't get wet. Great rocks around here, especially on the other side of the tunnel. I'll have to explore here one day.

Pulled over here on the way home from a weekend at Wombeyan Caves. The cache was quickly found and signed before my travelling companions pulled up in their car.
After a few strange poses for photos at the tunnel, we could finally move on to the last cache of the drive home.

Driving along the road, GeoMum was watching the GPS. After going through a pretty cool tunnel, I thought it was a good place for a cache, but figured there must have been a second tunnel, as she didn't tell me to stop. One ten point turn later and we were back to get it
I realised today that that I was in danger of breaking my "slump" record, having been caught up in school holidays and end of year shenanigans. Also, Dec 31st was a blank day on my calendar. So I had to find a cache today, and with the Highlands all cleared out this was my nearest unfound! Daibokux and I drove out here intending to simply tick this one off, but it turned out to be a quite spectacular place and well worth the trip. Took lots of photos of the rock wall and the tunnel, had a bit of a look around the bush scenery etc, then made a quick find. TFTC!
As National Steel said this is a spectacular place with sculpted sandstone on a large scale as if it were waves of stone. TFTScenery.
First find of a fantastic day out with aspitbiker. Great tunnel, difficult to imagine how the tunnel was constructed and also how the early tourists would have travelled this road.

When I found this cache on the 20 October removed the Boomerang TB VDTTPX and logged it on my mobile phone.
Unfortunately no signal and the TB was never logged as removed from cache. Subsequently placed it in a cache in Dungog on 22 October.
Have only just had the opportunity to write this note on my return to England.

Flies, flies and the lingering smell of a bush death greated us at the tunnel stopping point to start our search for this cache. The GPS was jumping all over the place and after marching up and down the road in frustration at the lack of a firm fix resorted to first principles of observation and soon spotted the signs near the clue. Bondie001 retrieved I replaced. Great cache great place but oh those flies.
Koolibah found the track, but I was brave enough to retrieve it took tb no vdttpx will help it on it's way tftc

Tuesday 11 June 2013 - day started foggy dark and damp in Canberra but turned out to be a magnificent sunny warm winter's day. Perfect for a trip to the Blue Mountains via Taralga, Wombeyan Caves, Berrima, Hill Top and Thirlmere. Worth a favourite point for taking us to this superb roadwork engineering feat.TFTC.
