Time to turn around and head back to The Elevator for another look. Low cloud is drifting in and a cool breeze on an otherwise great day. Quick find and cache all good. TFTC.
Wellington has put on an absolute scorcher of a day, and the young fella has a teacher only day, so we are off on a Welly climb inspired adventure. The plan is to park near the base of the tip track, walk up it to check out the castle near the redone, then down the red rocks track, followed by the elevator (our first time on this, quite thankful we were going down, going up looks like a bit of work!), and then a casual flat walk back along the streets to the car. We finished the day with 7 finds and 3 disappointing DNFs.Was quite an enjoyable section most of the way downhill to here, where a quick find was made. Thanks Hurricane Luke and agcnz#1254
Getting quite windy up here and can imagine what it would be like on an actual windy day- brrr! Many thanks for adding to todays adventure
Trouve ! / Found it ! Petite randonne aujourd'hui la dcouverte du Red Rock. Et bien entendu, j'ai essayer de ramasser un maximum de caches sur la route. J'ai tout sign au 25 alors qu'on est le 26... Le temps passe vite 4342me cache trouve.Merci Hurricane Luke, adopted by agcnz pour la cache Short hike today to discover Red Rock. And of course, I tried to pick up as many caches as possible on the road. I signed everything on the 25th even though it's the 26th... Time flies 4342th cache found.Thank you Hurricane Luke, adopted by agcnz for the cache
Third of four caches on a maintenance excursion today. Cache was in good condition, however the coordinates have always been a few metres out so I have made a small correction.
Coordinates changed from:
S 41° 20.516 E 174° 44.102
Coordinates changed to:
S 41° 20.513 E 174° 44.101
Distance from original: 18.8 feet or 5.7 meters.
Small correction to the original coordinates, these have always been a few metres out although the hint made finding the cache easy.

I've given myself 2 weeks off from work and the weather is too good to be sitting at home.
A beautiful day along the south coast, blue skies, a clear view to the south island and only a gentle breeze.
A quick find and all is good at GZ.
A great spot to stop for some photos. I also took the opportunity to have my lunch here and soak in the views.
This was my last for today.

Didn't fancy going down the elevator so carrying on to Red Rocks picking up some long forgotten caches on the way.
(# 5784). A nice day for caching so I decided to go for a bit of a walk down the south coast. Instead of walking the flat way towards Red Rocks I decided to take the back way starting from The Elevator and ending with Gale Force. The beginning of the walk was the most demanding where one experiences a very steep ascent up to The Elevator. After that there to Cliff Edge Effects the terrain is fine but there is the added challenge of wading through masses of gorse on the track. Please wear long trousers and top. Even then my legs took a hammering. After that there were no problems on the track. I can understand why it has been quite some time since a number of the caches had been found.
A quick find. Everything in order. TFTC

Out for a walk on a lovely Welly Autumn day. Found with Tharn and chrissymonty. TFTC
A great summer day for a good hike on the South Coast hills. Ended up doing a 17.6km loop, with 1,028 vertical meters. Grabbed seven caches along the way. Fantastic views from these ridges. Highlight of the trip was finding two wild piglets in the middle of one of the tracks. Was a bit nervous while they cam really close to me that a sow would crash out of the brush and get me!
All caches were quick finds, so apologies for the cut n paste logs.

And I thought Baton Ridge was exposed — didn’t dare to take my pack off here! Thanks for another agcnz.
#5634. After the unsuccessful search at the Elevator, Infoferret and I headed further along and up the route to this cache. It is heavily overgrown with gorse in places so gave the legs a good work out. The wind was blowing at this elevation and it was quite cool. A good work out getting up here. The cache was quickly found. Signed the log and returned the cache as found. Thanks for hiding it here agcnz. Claiming 307 m altitude for the DGSC altitude elective.
6 May 2018 16:06. This was the time that I had decided to turn around, so we had plenty of time to get back to the car. Easily located by GSEL, now do we have time for another nearby? Tftc
Climbed up to here from Owhiro Bay and finally up on the ridge. A gusting northerly meant being careful with the container and its contents to make sure nothing got picked up by the wind. Nice quick find which is welcome on a decent climb. TFTC.
First find today on a round trip from Owhiro Bay, up to the Brooklyn wind turbine and down to Red Rocks. Nice easy find with this one. The Red Rocks track is getting pretty rough in places which for biking is great news !
A quick find with TregearP whilst on a Southern Coast loop track.
More great views out in the Strait, and also a chance to get a better look at the track network in this area. I've biked down from Hawkins Hill previously but on a different route so good to get a view of these tracks.
All in good order, TNLNSL, TFTC.

A great walk along the South Coast, we were out this way on a holiday weekend and there were muggles(both 4W and 2 feet kind) every where. Today quiet and great views from the cliff edges although the winds a little hairy. TFTC
I agree that this feature seems unnecessary and could have been utilised elsewhere. Accurate coordinates led me directly to the nicely hidden cache which is in excellent condition.
Hiked to here from Baton Ridge cache. Lots of going down and climbing back up again today. We enjoyed a circuit from the top of the Red Rocks track via the Old Stockyards, South Coast Views caches, to Baton Ridge and then on to here.
I would like to have travelled further east and grabbed Cliff Edge Effects and The Elevator but time wasn't on our side by this stage of the day. So, as we headed uphill we promised ourselves another visit to here. A funny thing that. This really is quite an inhospitable area. The tracks can be steep and rubbly, the wind seems to blow from some direction whenever I visit, and the vegetation is a mix of struggling regenerating native and lots of damned gorse. The saving feature is the stark grandeur of the landscape and the breathtaking views. So we do it!
We biked in from Brooklyn Wind Turbine carpark (where there is no wind turbine at the moment), and decided to walk the area rather than bike it. Turned out to be a good decision. I'd be happy to be biking so long as I was headed out of the area via the coastal road or Happy Valley. Otherwise too much steep uphill to get back to the road.
This was a straightforward find, and the cache is all in order.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too
The Turtle strikes again!

Found this 12 months ago with Djali Djinn, Yosser9 etc but the trail along the top had been set to premium and I couldn't log the finds. Good to see it's back to ordinary - thanks - it was a great adventure along the top seeking out all these caches.
Found on my traditional Epic Birthday Geocache Hunt. This year it was the Red Rocks Loop with the dog. Took an unnecessarily difficult route to get the GZ, but once there it was a straight forward find. TFTC.
#6311. A walk up the elevator from Owhiro Bay to the top of the former quarry site, and onward and up the ridge to join Haape Track and Red Rocks Track. Great views all along the way. All quiet. Quick find. The cache was in excellent condition. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log. Thanks for the cache.
Upon hitting the boundary, thought it was about time to return the same way. Glad that it was (mostly) downhill now, although it was not much faster … particularly when getting down the elevator!

Quick find with LCBuilder, TFTC. Enjoyed the walk although it was pretty steep in places, tough, tiring, enjoying the comforts of the couch now!
It's been a worthwhile morning's effort collecting quite a few caches up here. What struck me is the number of different tracks in the area, some of which will require future exploring. Again took the time to enjoy the area while signing the log by hanging around for a while and watching the clouds formations coming over the hill. TFTC anzac61, a favourite
Another south coast walk for a few geocaches. Always enjoy getting out this way. TFTC
Fantastic views en route to the cache. As soon as I've recovered from the hike I'll upload some photos! Tftc. With Yosser9, and Cassie2010 and Chainsaw Pete.
One of several caches from the elevator to red rocks. Spectacular views and variety of terrain.. A great day out..With DjaliDjinn et al.
Also grabbed this one on my way around the cliff. Quick find. TFTC. Sherlock Hood.
Last find for the day while doing the Te Kopahou Loop. From here, heading north back to the Hawkins Hill road and the turbine: time to take shelter from this now-persistent rain!
Funny thing, I didn't see a soul between Hawkins Hill and here (via Te Kopahou), except for looking down on the cars driving along the beach. Then on the stretch of track from here to the Tip Track, I saw about five groups of people. Didn't know that it was so popular!

Got to here after coming up the elevator. Time to decide if I carry on to Red Rocks or go back
Out and about with kiwimudgie on a brilliant Wellington afternoon. We really enjoyed the views offered on the walk. We ended up walking 16 kms and getting 8 caches.
Thanks for the cache Hurricane Luke

Thanks, today was beautiful day for geocaching We really enjoyed the trip around Red rocks.
I could see where there might be a boundary issue, however was initially unsure whether to head left or right & not sure how far up the line to head.
My GPS had me 5m out at GZ, however the hint helped me, so it was just a matter of checking out the fenceline.
This was to be my last find of the day as my daughter started getting anxious about seeing the seals & heading home.
The whole round trip took us about 3 1/2 hours by the time we stopped for photos, geocaching, nibbles & sometimes just to catch our breath.
I thoroughly enjoyed this geocaching adventure & like the idea there are some caches I didn't find so I have an excuse to head up this way again.
Thanks for creating the loop Hurricane Luke - an enjoyable trek!

Another cool cache on the walk - checked out a few locations before finding the right one. TFTC !
Good to knock another one off on the loop track. Don't think we will be tacking the Te Kopahou Circuit in a hurry - this was strenuous enough for us today in the heat! TFTC
Weather was good today so I decided to come up here and try to tackle some caches. Manged to find this cache quite quickly, signed log and placed back. Great views. TFTC.
So many great spots like this across the south coast. Last time up here I somehow flicked my map card out of my gps while changing batteries and didn't get to find any so great to get back up here and find a few. Turned out to be a really nice afternoon. TFTC.
This was the lunch spot. Quickly realised that we werent going to be able to do the big loop today, started too late, so amended our plans so we could do a round trip back to Owhiro Bay. Great views and many options. TFTC
and on the loop goes- lots of fun with the down hill starting to come into view- nice.
A quick check of this newly placed cache as we happened to be in the area again...
Streetwalker and I left the main party following the happy valley road track while we went after this cache. We made quick progress heading to GZ. After quickly fining the cache we headed down into the valley. The track was in slightly worse condition but the real challenge was the change in elevation.
About half way back up we saw the main party passing the top of the track towards the stockyard cache where we eventually caught up with them.

#3644. The day was well advanced, and the caching party (me, Troodles, Simpsonsrgr8, kjwx + geopup, jardisliketardis + 1 junior tardis) were tiring. We'd started at the wind turbine and got as far as Te Kopahou before backtracking to the Red Rock side track to descend to Happy Valley Rd. When we got to the point where the Happy Valley Rd track and the Red Rocks track separate, Simpsonsrgr8 and I decided to make a detour to this cache, and then onwards to follow the track down to Haape Stream before climbing to rejoin the track down to Happy Valley Road. We quickly found the cache. Most of the descent into Haape Stream was steep, and the 120m climb was tough on the legs late in the day. We made good time though, and caught up with the others at the Old Stockyard cache. TFTC.
It was a beautiful fine and calm afternoon so I decided to put a couple of hours aside and bike up here from the turbine carpark to find some of the new caches. After biking right to the Te Kopahau cache I turned and came back along the road, left the bike near the top of the Red Rocks track and then walked down to this one. A very quick find in another pleasant spot with a great view. This is one track I have been down before but it was many years ago - we left one car at the turbine carpark and another at Owhiro Bay, then walked between the two via Red Rocks. Nice to re-acquaint myself with some of the territory! After finding this one I headed back to the carpark, took just over 2 hours from start to finish to find all 4 of the new caches up here. I'll come back another day from the coast to find the Gale Force and Sinclair Head (when it's published) caches. Signed log, TFTC!
The last find before heading for home while out for a gentle night time stroll with -gonefishing- and Yeetrees in which we walked just over 18km. In general it was a wonderful night to be out and about with a very bright moon which for the most part provided enough light to walk without the need for torches and very little wind to detract from ones enjoyment of the suroundings. A number of possums were out and about on this section of the track which is unusual, given the amount of eradication which is going on across the Wellington region.

After finding GC3ACXW Te Kopahou (Wellington), we headed off to the last cache that we were doing out here tonight south coast, for some strange reason, maybe it was the moonlight or the bright stars in our eyes -gonefishing- and fozzmiester decided to take a alternative turnoff, the one prior to the one that we were supose to take and after walk for about 15 minutes downhill I finally realised that we were heading down the wrong way and basically had to grunt our way back all the way back to the main junction and then walked our way to the correct turnoff.
After a bit of a walk and chasing off a couple of possums we finally got ourselves near the cache, arriving at GZ it didn't take too long for -gonefishing- and fozzmiester to tracked down the hiding spot of the cache.
After finding this cache on and taking a few second to admire the views of Wellington City night views before turning around and making our way back towards the Brooklyn wind turbine and our way back to the car, what a great walk along the South Coast, what a great night to be out and about definitely a better night to do caching as the moonlight was just bright enough that we really didn't need to use any torches until we needed them for retrieving caches, thanks for placing a cache here and bringing us to this lovely spot and for bringing us to this lovely spot which had great view even though it was night-time, TFTC TNLNSL (4353) Tane Ruru "The Geocaching Morepork" decided to come out and check these caches out as well.

Out and about this evening with fozzmiester and yeetrees. We enjoyed our 5 hour, 18.2km evening stroll picking up 5 caches as we went. Having been completely shrouded in the mist at Te Kopahou trig, we now had clear skies and great city views again. But most importantly, we had a rare windless evening up here. A most enjoyable trip in good company. Thanks for setting up the trail to give us some exercise.
As we didnt' set out until just before 7pm, the lower gate was closed, so we walked all the way up from Aston Fitchett Dr, taking the Sanctuary fenceline to the carpark.
