We were disappointed not to find this cache when others found it easy. After spending 10 minutes or so with no success we carried on to Boundry Issues and then returned to spend another 20 minutes with no success. Thanks for the placement, we'll try again another day.
Wellington has put on an absolute scorcher of a day, and the young fella has a teacher only day, so we are off on a Welly climb inspired adventure. The plan is to park near the base of the tip track, walk up it to check out the castle near the redone, then down the red rocks track, followed by the elevator (our first time on this, quite thankful we were going down, going up looks like a bit of work!), and then a casual flat walk back along the streets to the car. We finished the day with 7 finds and 3 disappointing DNFs.This was to be our last cache around our loop walk today, and we were really hoping not for a DNF. Armed with the hint this turned into an instant find thankfully. And now, onwards to the car and then milkshake, beer and fries time! Also, a new D/T rating for us. Thanks Hurricane Luke and agcnz#1256
Super first find of todays adventure. Thanks for setting this trail up and for maintaining it too! Someone has thoughtfully set some ropes up for part of the climb here - much appreciated! Onwards and upwards
Trouve ! / Found it ! Petite randonne aujourd'hui la dcouverte du Red Rock. Et bien entendu, j'ai essayer de ramasser un maximum de caches sur la route. J'ai tout sign au 25 alors qu'on est le 26... Le temps passe vite 4345me cache trouve.Merci Hurricane Luke, adopted by agcnz pour la cache Short hike today to discover Red Rock. And of course, I tried to pick up as many caches as possible on the road. I signed everything on the 25th even though it's the 26th... Time flies 4345th cache found.Thank you Hurricane Luke, adopted by agcnz for the cache
Perfect weather this morning so I visited here and took a pruning saw with me to cut away the worst of the gorse encroaching on the last fifteen metres from the track to the cache. Much easier now although I wouldn't recommend coming up the main track in shorts unless you want to get a lot of scratches! The cache was exactly where it should be but there was a crack in the lid and it was in a sorry state inside. I have replaced the main container with another 1 litre Systema (camo painted) and the new logbook is now in a smaller 200 ml new-style (better sealing) Sistema container inside this. Hopefully it should be good for a long time now. All good to go, happy caching!
After compiling answers for the nearby Earthcache, I still had enough daylight and energy to come up here. Sure it was steep, but it was also another fantastic place to walk... until it turned into gorse city. I got all the way to GZ and had a very very thorough search but after a long while and not getting anything other than scratches I decided to leave it. I would like to come back but next time I'll bring gloves!!
It was still worth it to come here for the views, though. I'll attach some photos and stick this on the watchlist to see if the next visitor is any better off... still, thanks for giving me a reason to explore up here!

The old saying “look before you leap…the cache was temptingly close we headed off silly me should of read the brief… oh well carry on up ..it’s not that bad I kept telling my 70 year old body the vista’s were amazing ..but not too sure about the gorse …it’s a perfect environment for it to blossom..oh bother…the cache was found and signed KL placed a log sheet that was easier to sign ..thanks for the placement now to slide my way down
We did a brisk walk along the coast and as we headed back we saw this track with a cache temptingly at the top. Not far away at all!! Without reading the description or second thoughts we were off up. The "elevator" wasn't working today so we had to slog up under our own steam! It wasn't too bad at all, with only one short scree bit that was very slippery. At the top the gorse was starting to sprout. I'm glad I had jeans and long sleeves. The views were spectacular and I watched the Interislander Ferries crossing by, both making slow headway. It wouldn't be the best trip today. At gz there was more gorse, but not where the cache was. I put in some waterproof log paper to make it easier to sign. A quick skate down and "home".
Thanks for the placement and challenge HurricaneLuke and agcnz.

I've given myself 2 weeks off from work and the weather is too good to be sitting at home.
A beautiful day along the south coast, blue skies, a clear view to the south island and only a gentle breeze.
This cache has been on my must do for quite some time, but looking at the description I knew it was one I'd need to do without my younger kids in tow.
I'll say it wasn't as tough as I'd mentally prepared myself for. The way down was much more precarious though. I think there must have been some fresh slips and one part of the track has a lot of fresh rockfall.
Once I reached the "top floor" the cache was quickly found. I had brought gloves in anticipation of gorse but I didn't need them in the end as the geo trail is reasonably gorse free.
Unfortunately the cache lid is cracked and it was full of water. I let CO know and am logging with their permission.

20mins up 20mins down. The cache was waterlogged. Need a new logbook its too wet to write in. It took a bit of looking but its still there.
I have had this cache on my must do soon list for quite a while now. This evening seemed a good one to give it a go and I was pleasantly surprised to find my steady progress got me to the cache site comfortably inside the time suggested by the cache owner. I didn't know exactly what the hint referred to but some logical thinking led me to correctly identify where I needed to look and I soon had possession of the cache. There is a crack in the lid but I don't expect this will cause any problems for a while.
Camping below so an early start before it gets too hot. Just 20 mins to get here and find it. Probably 5 mins searching as didn't understand hint until read co's log. Then found I was standing on it nearly. No damage done, off to the next. Glorious views today. Gets a fave.
I see from previous logs going back a couple of years that this cache has a habit of wandering around up here And I suspect the same has happened again
Exactly at the published coordinates I found an obvious location fitting both of the elements in the hint But I finally found the container about 3m away sitting in the grass partially covered by gorse foliage Definitely not a typical agcnz hide! But the dead grass footprint indicated it had been there for a long time. So leave it or move it? After a bit of indecision I put it at what seems the logical spot matching the hint If the hint doesn't help future cachers then the CO's last logs might do the trick - if you have some elementary plant knowledge
All in very good condition inside
Last time up here I carried on up to higher caches but today it's back down that elevator chute I found that it needed very careful negotiation My walking pole was of great help getting down those parts which had loose small gravel on hard undersurface
Thanks agcnz Definitely deserves a favourite vote for the challenge of getting up here, the views and your persistence in maintaining it in such a spot

TwigNZ suggested a caching roadtrip to Wellington with Mar1sa, which sounded like an excellent day out of the house! - a novel idea considering that I'm still Working from Home...
The downside of this plan is that the first cache was 2+hrs from home which meant a much earlier start than I am otherwise used to.
We had an excellent trip, and Wellington really turned on the sunshine for us - Twig's "solar panel" definitely got some exposure
Having just found the bonus cache for the Adventure Lab, [@TwigNZ](http://coord.info/PRPHK6E) mentioned this other one "near by" (neglecting to mention the T rating) and asked if we wanted to give it a go?
It soon became obvious what the name of the cache signified, although not even I realised the magnitude of the effort until it was too late.
There were many times that I wondered if my trailing buddies were stopping for a break or stopping for good
[@mar1sa](http://coord.info/PR7Y758)'s heart rate definitely experienced elevation!
As we continued walking, our distance stared to *increase*. We dared not tell Mar1sa this (who was still a few floors below us), and was relieved to see it come back down as we rounded the bend.
Once we exited the Elevator on the top floor and took in the views, we started hunting for the treasure. I have no idea what the hint refers to, but fortunately my geosenses kicked in and we were signing the log just as Mar1sa arrived.
This is my 2000th cache!
Thanks for the memorable find

My day started at at 5.15am with a goal of caching down in wellington with Twignz and Etherlord Clan, the weather was amazing and we ended up with a few finds under our belt finished the day around 9pm and the shower and bed never felt so good as it did that night.
thanks for placing the caches and bringing us to the locations we visited. - sorry about the copy and paste logs
- on my gosh I wanted the elevator after the first part - what a climb to the topish
stunning views once at gz thankfully the only big climb we did today

What a fantastic day to be out and about in the Capital (read Target-rich environment lol!) with a couple of great geo-friends. You just can't beat Wellington on a good day, and this certainly was one. Note to self: Time to start wearing caps again!
Part of our discussion on our journey down was centered around what our joint logging name would be for today, with the final choice being Team M.E.T (or sometimes just MET depending on log space) for Mar1sa, Etherlord and TwigNZ.
Trying to cache along the coast using a car is perhaps not the best way to do it, but when you're from 'out-of-town' then you have to balance the convenience of getting to and from home with the interesting times you might have trying to get a park near GZ lol! We did find that traveling generally East to West worked best for Houghton Bay, Island Bay and Owhiro Bay.
We were in this vicinity to find a couple of other caches but then I saw how close (yeah, hindsight is a wonderful thing!) this one was and ask my compadres if they fancied going for it? Well in truth there were times on the climb when I thought they may not speak to me again! But I actually enjoyed it overall, and loved the views from the top. I'm also grateful to Etherlord for making the find at GZ as there's a good chance I would not have stumbled upon it. With the usual log admin sorted, the whole thing was replaced as found before taking a few photos and then tackling the more arduous task of descending the track back to the car.
Thanks for placing this cache. FP given for the whole experience.

Whew! What a climb! A feat of engineering more reminiscent of the Denniston Incline than a 4wd track. Cache found in good order, thanks for the gardening efforts! Tftc!
(# 5780). A nice day for caching so I decided to go for a bit of a walk down the south coast. Instead of walking the flat way towards Red Rocks I decided to take the back way starting from The Elevator and ending with Gale Force. The beginning of the walk was the most demanding where one experiences a very steep ascent up to The Elevator. After that there to Cliff Edge Effects the terrain is fine but there is the added challenge of wading through masses of gorse on the track. Please wear long trousers and top. Even then my legs took a hammering. After that there were no problems on the track. I can understand why many caches had not been found for quite some time.
Found after a short search where the access to the cache was fine. Everything in order. Great views from here and I could even see my vehicle down at the car park. Thanks for bringing me here.

#6882. Decided yesterday that I needed to get back here once more to have another go at this one before the gorse starts to regenerate. I messaged Infoferret to see if she was interested in a return visit. So the two of us headed over to the south coast this morning and headed up the elevator. The path up was a bit slippery but got there without mishap. Close to GZ the much improved access was clear to see. Obviously a few muggles have been taking advantage of this new viewing spot as well. As we approached the GZ we could see the cache sitting out in the open. The log book has had quite a few entries from visitors but none of them are geocachers. Fortunately they sealed up the container so all was dry inside. We entered our names and looked around for a suitable hiding spot that matched the hint and would not be so quick to find by muggles. There was a good spot that was 3m from the GZ on my GPS. Placed the cache there with the natural cover above and placed two rocks next to it. Hopefully this spot will avoid muggle interference from now on. Thanks agcnz for the great gardening job. Nice to have this cache signed off and no prickles to extract when back at home.
Just over a year ago I tried for this one, but GSEL and I were beaten back by the gorse, and had to retreat, and were picking out gorse prickles for days! Today, GSEL asked me if I was keen for a rematch, given sone 'gardening' had been done at the location, and the CO had confirmed this was still there to be found. So off we went....
I had vague hopes that I was getting fitter, but that ascent proved otherwise... eventually puffed and panted my way to the top, and strolled along the narrow path to where I vaguely remembered GZ to be. Wow! this area is a lot more open, and the cache was an instant find by GSEL (and had been by a few muggles as well, judging from the log book entries - an international crowd!) Everything was in excellent condition, and after signing the logbook, we replaced it according to the hint. TFTC. Now for that slope down...

Called here this morning equipped with heavy leather gloves, pruning saw and secateurs. Thanks to GSEL for clearing some of the gorse, and I have now removed a whole lot more so that there is a clear side track to where the cache is hidden. If only GSEL had known - the path he created went right over the top of the cache which was slightly buried. It was at the base of a cottonwood bush which was once in the clear; no longer so! Fortunately the container survived and is in pristine condition. The cache has been relocated to a few metres away and the coordinates updated. The position is now a bit more consistent with the hint. All good to go until the gorse takes over again, hopefully a few years away. Happy caching!

Time for a CO visit. I have helped you clear the gorse from the site. Need confirmation there is still a cache on site.
I came south today to locate a Welly Climbs cache and was determined to convert the blue sad face into a smile. But it was not to be. Armed with more leg and arm protection plus leather gloves and secateurs I was determined to expose the cache. Worked my way around each of the target bushes snipping off gorse and removing the deep dead gorse slush layer below each. No cache. Eventually I uncovered a larger rock at the base of one shrub and thought I had it. But after a major clearance of gorse within 2m there was no cache lurking anywhere. It seems hard to credit anyone would muggle it in this area but I had spent 45 minutes degorsing the site and I can't find a cache. If its there I will be amazed.
Yes mentioned to IF at the event I was coming south to chase another Welly Climbs cache and she decided to join me in the hunt. Bit of a slog up the elevator and once near GZ I realised wearing shorts wasn't the smartest choice of the day. Some seriously knarly gorse in this area. Took an hour to extract all the prickles from my hands once at home. It is so tight near ground level that you need a stick to probe under the outer defences to find any cache. Nothing showed up near the two hint species we searched around. Quite a bit of ground to cover actually. Will need to return better dressed and with a steely attitude to claim this one.
A spur of the moment decision to give this one a go with GSEL this afternoon, despite not having the ideal clothes or equipment. You need solid jeans and full length coverage, and gloves, well full kevlar body armour really, the gorse is fierce! Spent about 15 minutes searching before we had to admit defeat and head onwards. However, we did not come up here in Jandals like another person we met... I will be back someday with better clothing, gloves, and cutting equipment.!
There was quite a bit of anticipation about why this track is called the elevator shaft and now I know - so aptly named. The scree is quite slippery and the lower part of the ascent was quite tricky and I had to tack my way up. Up at the top I spent several minutes trying to figure out how to get to GZ+0. That assumed that coords were good - and they were. I found a bit of a trail and it led me on a bit of a serpentine route that ended with a well hidden cache. TFTC.
This has been on my target cache list for my New Zealand holiday right from the start. It's got a rare combo of attributes which match a challenge back home (The Scenic Adventurer).
I made this my second hill climb of the day and that may have been a mistake! Lol I had quite a sweat up by the top. So glad I wore jeans and a jumper too. Damn that gorse is fierce! It's a sure sign it's bad when you have to have a conversation with yourself and convince yourself to jump into a gorse bush to make a find...
I got there though and tried to open the space up a little to make the find possible in future. It's getting pretty overgrown. Coords were within two metres for me.
FP awarded for teaching me a proper lesson about gorse! Until now I'd managed to avoid diving into it but I feel like I've had a proper NZ experience now! TNLN TFTC

Quite the scramble up, gorse to wade through, relatively easy find, gingerly slide down… TFTC
A quick find with TregearP whilst on a Southern Coast loop track.
Certainly a bit of an effort to get up to this one but well worth it with stunning views.
All in good order, TNLNSL, TFTC.

Would have loved an elevator that was quite a steep climb but view and smilie was worth it, TFTC all in good order.
After the recent maintenance, I decided to give this one another go. The scramble up the Elevator was certainly no easier, but spotting the cache was. Nice straight forward find this time. Thanks for the maintenance - nice to get the Red Rocks Track complete. TFTC.
Called here today while passing, people are obviously having difficulty finding this cache and it was never intended that it be hard to find. There has been a lot of gorse growth in the years since it was placed and accessing the container had become a bit of a prickly proposition. Furthermore it appears that the cottonwood shrub which the cache was next to has been snapped off by the wind at some stage and there is only a dead stub remaining; thus the hint was no longer valid. I have now moved the cache about 2 metres to the SW of where it was before and in fact this has made the coordinates slightly more accurate than they were. It's now at the base of a slightly larger hint item, with a rock and some sticks to cover it. You'll still have to step between some gorse bushes to get to it but hopefully you won't get spiked any more when uncovering it. I would still recommend that you wear gloves (you do carry those when caching, don't you?) as a precaution. If the gorse continues to be a problem in the future I'll move the cache right out of it, but it should be OK for now.
Finally! Took us ages (and a lot of pain from all the spikey undergrowth). A stick is highly recommended though be prepared for a frustrating search!
This took quite some time to find. My brother resorted to poking around in the undergrowth with a stick until he heard a 'clunk.' Quite an effective method. We were not going down that elevator empty-handed.
Found this 12 months ago with Djali Djinn, Yosser9 etc but the trail along the top had been set to premium and I couldn't log the finds. Good to see it's back to ordinary - thanks - it was a great adventure along the top seeking out all these caches.
Attempted on my traditional Epic Birthday Geocache Hunt. This year it was the Red Rocks Loop with the dog. Wow - that was quite a climb! Even the dog struggled and he has twice as many legs as me! Spent about 30mins searching at GZ with no luck. Didn't get the reference in the hint and couldn't spot anything distinctive at GZ. Nevermind, thanks anyway.
#6308. A walk up the elevator from Owhiro Bay to the top of the former quarry site. Great views. All quiet today. Well hidden. It took a little searching to find the cache. In good condition, but Galileo Global Navigation Satellite System (Copy) was not in the cache. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log. Thanks for the cache.
Wow what a climb! Came up the elevator and then had a bit of a rest at GZ before searching. Not sure what the hint means but found it eventually, maybe 2meters from where the GPS was taking us. TFTC!
Phew! Was glad to finally get up there! Found after bit of searching around! Thanks for the cache
Had to drop off a couple of the kids at the ferry and decided to target collecting a few caches in this area in line with my objective on focussing on some local caching this summer. Not sure what was going on at the carpark but it was full and very quiet at 8.00am - lots of people movers and camper-vans, with many tents as well - couldn't work out was was going on.
Made the climb up, wow that was steep, and glad I had my tramping boots on. Fresh southerly so I had no issues with overheating, and enjoyed the fantastic views. Have noticed this track, having collected the cache up by Haape Stream, so it was nice to explore in a new area. TFTC anzac61, #7399, a favourite.

A great walk on a lovely day. We carried on to find the other caches. Awesome trail! With Yosser9, and Cassie2010 and Chainsaw Pete, who can't log the find as they're not premium members yet, but then, it's not about the numbers; we had a fantastic afternoon and that's really what it's all about tftc
Our intrepid troops heaved our way up the elevator (stout stick helped the ascent) at the start of a great walk. Four hours later finished the loop back to our cars at Owhiro Bay. Well worth the hike.
What a curious track!
A couple of blokes at the bottom, by the stream, were building what looked like a bike jump for bikes coming off the elevator. Can't imagine they're going to get many bikes riding it!
A gorgeous afternoon and very little wind. The perfect place to be! Was aiming to do the full circuit, but was delayed leaving home so may only get to the high point. TFTC!

First one on my walk today. Interesting little route, got me huffing and puffing. Fabulous views worth the effort. TFTC. Sherlock hood.
Certainly earns it 4 star terrain rating!! Great view, shame the wind was pretty strong today. Long pants a must in these parts. We're still thinking about the clue ... TFTC
On the way up I was wondering if I was on the right elevator. And to think that they used to drive diggers up and down here. Madness
Thanks, nice a view from this place. I was there almost before 6 months but I didn't find it. Today with my new GPS I was so much lucky and I found the cache
[green] Down in Wellington to see my sister and her family for a few days. They are off to church at the moment, so I have borrowed the bike to do a few caches. Lefty the bike behind the info stand thingy, which was a bit of a worry, as I could not lock it and it had already been stolen earlier this morning. Luckily I found the thief only 200m away and was able to get it back.
Well, I have to agree with hurricane Luke, this is a vehicle route. I would have liked to see it in action, I am not convinced they could get a vehicle of any sort up here without a winch. So what was the winch, and how did they get that up here? Spent ages at the top looking around - must have followed every rabbit trail, thinking they were geotrails, including some on the other (uphill) side of the path. Wrong way, by the way. I eventually found the cache (hint was no help, unless the mined material was gorse, in which case the hint would still be no help!).
I see there is another fake log by Tremichlan, by the way, there is no log of his in the cache. Dropped in a favourite and a pathtag, and should have dropped in a trackable - I have so many to get rid of. Also the Galileo Global Navigation Satellite System coin in the cache is missing. Hurricane - could you please mark it as such. I wish I had my camera, the views here are fantastic. But my cellphone has a batt flattery and my sister and family are Apple people. Computing power everywhere, but no micro USB. And I forgot to bring one too. Darn.

A great name for a cache but between this one and Haape's Purple Taniwha where on our seats. WM suggested go upward would be easier but I am not so sure. TFTC
Unfortunately the elevator was broken the day we arrived, so it was a hard slog up the hill. The calves were screaming to stop half way up, but having done the hard yards, continued on.
I was grateful to have good boots & a hiking stick.
I don't know what sort of bulldozer made the track, but the grades were extreme!
The view at the top was fantastic & was a great start to an excellent walk around the hilltops, then down to Red Rocks to see & smell the seals.
Considering we're still in winter, this was an amazing day with hardly a breath of wind.
Thanks Hurricane Luke for the excuse to climb up here & enjoy another fun adventure.

The view was nice. It started to rain on the way back down which was a bit worrying, but none of us slipped to out death.
Found this with Halojen and Airkeeper04.
Amazing views, very steep hike. Well worth it at the end.

Found reasonably quickly and starting to run out of steam for this walk. Little did I know the hardest downhill bit was yet to come though ! TFTC.
The first find of what turned out to be a memorable caching expedition. We thought the elevator was going to be the tough bit and it was, but it was only the beginning. Located the cache without too much difficulty. TFTC
I came by here after swimming to Our Backyard...Tapu Te Ranga Island this morning. The way up was quite a slog and a little but slippery in places. No real problems though. The cache took a little search to find but there was no was I would give up on any along here for fear of having to come back.
Steep!! But beautiful, found with teisho (Signed as "isi" because i had not yet an own gc profile). Great view! TFTC!
Weather was improving so I came out this way for a second attempt on this one. Managed to find with no problems. TFTC.
Had a few free hours on a beautifully sunny day so I thought I'd tackle this one. Plenty of muggles about today but none was heading up the stream track. It may not have been well thought out, but I managed to complete this challenge in a sundress! Up was most certainly easier than down, which was more a controlled slide in some parts. I spent far longer than I'd care to admit at GZ, and initially overshot it. Dodgy reception can only bear some of the blame. In the end I found the cache in a place I had skimmed over twice before... sigh. All in all, a very enjoyable experience! I think that makes it three for three in favourite points for Haape Stream and surrounds caches! TFTC
So many great spots like this across the south coast. Last time up here I somehow flicked my map card out of my gps while changing batteries and didn't get to find any so great to get back up here and find a few. Turned out to be a really nice afternoon. TFTC.
Planned a circuit today with the Elevator as the start point. What a hidden gem this cool track is. Really enjoyed the scramble up the hill. TFTC
TFTF. We found it after searching for ages ... Only to realise we entered the coordinates wrong lol. Once we got the coordinates correct it was a nice easy find.
Woooow! that is super steep but we successfully slipped and slided our way to the top. We couldn't imagine any one driving this other than maybe a bulldozer! It was also nice to have a really strong (and cold) southerly behind us pushing us up. The find was an easy one and on we went for the rest of this series of caches in a place we had never been before- exciting stuff! Thanks.
A beautiful fine day and I had spent too long inside during the week, time for a decent walk! Started off from the mouth of the Haape Stream about 9:30am, no problems traversing the elevator and spectacular views once I arrived at the cache site. I can imagine how inhospitable how this could be in bad weather but today it was just perfect. The cache was found after two or three minutes' search. Signed log, TFTC!
WOW you have got to love this just when you think that you have had enough aerobic exercise what happens, Hurricane Luke's get to go for another walk along the South Coast, yes you have got to love this when this happens , but in the end of the day, actually the middle of the afternoon it was a great time to go for a walk.
Arriving at the carpark and meeting up with boxhill we were off to do this lovely walk again together, knowing that I wasnt going for the FTF wasnt going to put the cobwash on this walk as it was definitely a great afternoon to go for a ramble as they say around the coast.
After a bit of huffing, then a bit more puffing and a few more huffing and puffing the elevation of the climb was increasing faster and the heart beat was climbing, I soon arrived at a bit of a plateau and the path was soon leveling out, was a bit puffed by the time I arrived at GZ, but was totally disappointed that Hurricane Luke didn't tell me that there was an easier way up to GZ . After a short search I soon narrowed down GZ and realised where the hiding spot of the cache was and soon hade it in hand as boxhill wasnt going to give it away to me as he really wanted me to do the hard yards as well, What a cool spot for a cache, yes had a chance to cool down a bit before picking up the energy to carry on to the next one on this route around the South Coast, love the writeup and the pictures, great spot for a cache and definitely worth doing, and thanks for the aerobic exercise, time to beat the feet, thanks for placing the cache here and for bringing me up to this lovely spot, TFTC TNLNSL (4363)

Happy Days FTF ! Checked my emails when I got home last night after being out of town for the weekend to see some interesting looking new caches had been published. Paid a visit just on daybreak this morning to get the easy one! The call button on the Elevator was broken so I had to take the stairs Phew!!!! A reasonably quick find, although I'm still a little mystified by the hint. I had to take the stairs back down again as well, I got back to the car just before the forecast rain arrived. TNLN SL TFTC
