So many windswept shrubs but we were determined that this was not going to be the second DNF of the day. Eventually I looked under the correct shrub and found it. This is a great spot with wonderful views both to sea and inland. TFTC.

Wellington has put on an absolute scorcher of a day, and the young fella has a teacher only day, so we are off on a Welly climb inspired adventure. The plan is to park near the base of the tip track, walk up it to check out the castle near the redone, then down the red rocks track, followed by the elevator (our first time on this, quite thankful we were going down, going up looks like a bit of work!), and then a casual flat walk back along the streets to the car. We finished the day with 7 finds and 3 disappointing DNFs.We feel like we understood the hint, and from looking at the photo, expected this to be quite a quick find. But alas, after 20 minutes. We had to concede defeat.

Wow! What a view from up here. Thoroughly enjoying todays adventure. Helpful ropes earlier on came in handy with the steep climb. Many thanks for the placement and also the maintenance. Just super!

I walked on up to here for a check-up after doing maintenance on the cache "The Elevator" further down. Pleased to report that the cache is exactly where it should be and is in excellent condition. The views as usual were superb!

Tftc. Very goresey walk up to here. Great view

I've given myself 2 weeks off from work and the weather is too good to be sitting at home.

A beautiful day along the south coast, blue skies, a clear view to the south island and only a gentle breeze.

Not where I thought it was going to be, I had to get closer to the edge than I anticipated! Which made for a better view so it's worth it.

That’ was a challenge

23-Feb-22
After finding The Elevator, I carried on to this site. Although the route currently seems obvious, I greatly appreciate it when cache owners make the effort to record intermediate waypoints to assist with navigation. While my GPSr was settling down, I spotted a likely looking hiding place but there was nothing to be seen. I was then directed to go a further five metres where I quickly tracked down the nicely hidden cache.

Just 45 mins from the van parked below, and that includes getting the first one, watching the ferry leave and admiring the view. Coords spot on which helps. So many times have searched with no luck for ones like this. Still just after 9am but warming up. Time to head down to the air con I think.

Should get a medal for doing this. Pengi thought so, maybe next up will?

I've decided to change my name from matagouri to gorse! Not complaining, though, cos clear signs of native vegetation regenerating in the gullies; gorse cover will hasten the process. Superb views from GZ, even on a cloudy day. Cache all in good order. Tftc!

(# 5781). A nice day for caching so I decided to go for a bit of a walk down the south coast. Instead of walking the flat way towards Red Rocks I decided to take the back way starting from The Elevator and ending with Gale Force. The beginning of the walk was the most demanding where one experiences a very steep ascent up to The Elevator. After that there to Cliff Edge Effects the terrain is fine but there is the added challenge of wading through masses of gorse on the track. Please wear long trousers and top. Even then my legs took a hammering. After that there were no problems on the track. I can understand why it has been quite some time since a number of the caches had been found.

A quick find. The container had a bit of water in it but and little log was a little damp (but no problem). Decided to have a bite to eat and drink as the view is wonderful so gave everything a chance to dry of a bit. Thanking for bring me to this spot.

This was a pleasant evening to get out of the house and go for a hike on the South Coast. Getting up the elevator was a decent climb, but the worst was to come once I reached the top. The track to this GZ is very overgrown, and as it was such a nice evening I was wearing shorts - my legs got very scratched up from the overgrown gorse (which I'm allergic to).
A quick find at the GZ, and I took time to enjoy the views, until my legs were getting too sore and I had to rush home for a cold bath and some antihistamine cream.

Hiked the ‘Red Rocks Loop’ — 3½ hours & 12 ㎞ (returning along shoreline, with caching of course). Appreciated the guiding description & waypoints on this cache. Someone’s carved basic steps in The Elevator since I last ascended it Cache was found after some elimination; then talked to English gent out walking his possum-eating dogs. Thanks agcnz!

#5632. After the unsuccessful search at the Elevator, Infoferret and I headed further along the route to this cache. It is heavily overgrown with gorse so gave the legs a good work out. A bit breezy up on these higher slopes as well. Eventually reached the GZ where we observed some good examples of cliff edge effects. Under one was the cache. Signed the log and returned the cache as found. Thanks for hiding it here agcnz.

6 May 2018 15:27. Nursing our wounds from the encounter with the gorse around the elevator, GSEL and I made our way onwards and upwards. Once in the area, this was a quick find by GSEL to restore our wounded caching pride. Tftc, the views are amazing!

From the elevator shaft I had a moments concern when I couldn't figure out where the track went but it was only confusing because it seemed to go the opposite way for a bit in order to go around the hill. A pretty rapid ascent to this height and a great view over the coast. I can see my car as a tiny dot down in the car park. The cache was hidden pretty much as I expected but I managed to get to the correct place only when it was the only place left! I'd forgotten to cache the caches in my phone before I left (they were in my GPS though) and a brief cellular reception here was enough to download what I needed. TFTC.

A new route for me thanks And when you get there the starting point is almost under your feet Demonstrates how steep the drop is down to the coast Thanks for taking me here Now for that Welly Climbs cache

Easy cache and nice spot for a break Smile

24-Jul-16
A quick find with TregearP whilst on a Southern Coast loop track.

Quite blustery here today but a great spot to view the whitecaps out in the Strait.

All in good order although the relatively easily seen once close as there is a gap between the foliage and grass - although that may simply be the time of year and when stock was last grazed. TNLNSL and replaced as found, TFTC.

24-Jul-16
A great walk along the South Coast, we were out this way on a holiday weekend and there were muggles(both 4W and 2 feet kind) every where. Today quiet and great views from the cliff edges although the winds a little hairy. TFTC

06-May-16
First cache in a while nice to get amongst the scrub and gorse and go hunting. Great view and thankfully the weather had stabilised. #104

14-Apr-16
A quick owner maintenance visit while passing. All good here, no action needed.

31-Dec-15
Found this 12 months ago with Djali Djinn, Yosser9 etc but the trail along the top had been set to premium and I couldn't log the finds. Good to see it's back to ordinary - thanks - it was a great adventure along the top seeking out all these caches.

Found on my traditional Epic Birthday Geocache Hunt. This year it was the Red Rocks Loop with the dog. He wasn't too keen on going through the gorse that had grown over the track from The Elevator, but we got there in the end. Stunning views from GZ. Took a bit of hunting, but I made the find eventually. TFTC.

Amazed at Outward Bounds fitness regime. Took me about 30 mins to get up here. Crazy winds today. TFTC

#6309. A walk up the elevator from Owhiro Bay to the top of the former quarry site. Great views. Not much wind today. All quiet. Quick find. The cache was in excellent condition. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log. Thanks for the cache.

Awesome location and so good to be up here exploring a new area, enjoying the scenery and getting the exercise. Saw the ferry, which was carrying a couple of my little people, heading to Picton. Stopped for a while to enjoy the location. TFTC anzac61, #7400, a favourite.

Great spot for aptly named cache. Thanks for introducing us to this walk.

30-Oct-14
A gorgeous afternoon and very little wind. Almost getting too hot climbing up here! Was aiming to do the full circuit (up via elevator, down to Red Rocks), but was delayed leaving home so I may only get to the next cache before I have to turn around.

This is a fantastic spot. Rivals South Coast Views 2 as my favourite view along here! I could have spent hours up here just watching. However there are caches to be found!

Riding on form the elevator to her for the nice round. Even better views form here. Out : TB. TFTC. Sherlock Hood.

Another lung tester to reach the GZ. Well worth the priceless 180 degree view of the Kaikouras and beyond, along with the Wairarapa coastline. Magical! TFTC

Very nippy up here this afternoon. More like Antartic Edge effects. TFTC with WM.

Wellington put on an amazing day for this epic hike.

We had decided to come out & see the seals & had seen these caches enticing us up the hill.

The first part of the hike was strenuous as I hadn't done much exercise recently, but I was encouraged on by Honey the Geocaching dog & my daughter who was powering ahead of me.

I approached this particular cache from below as I had walked by without realising it, but thoroughly enjoyed the magnificent view.

Thanks for the excuse for another memorable geocaching experience Hurricane Luke

Took a long time to find this - thought the open skies would help the GPS, but it was wandering terribly. Eventually it took me back to one place twice, and there was the cache ! Wasn't going to leave this one empty handed. Fantastic views as a ferry cruised past. TFTC !

27-Jan-13
Had to check out a few hint objects before coming up with the cache, then took up your suggestion and enjoyed our lunch perched under a hint object in the shade. Views are great here and it is good to be able to look down and see how far you have come. TFTC

21-Jan-13
I carried on to here from the elevator and kept going to red rocks. This was my favourite of the series. I enjoyed this spot so much I just sat to enjoy the view for a bit.

An amazing spot worth a favourite.

04-Sep-12
Great afternoon out getting a few south coast caches in some cool locations. TFTC.

05-Aug-12
After the Elevator, this was the next stop. Nearly shot past it due to excessive admiring of the views. Fab spot. TFTC

08-Jul-12
Came up the track and soon found this cache. It was a bit cold but there was not much wind. Quickly went to the next one and then back to the car as it was getting dark. Great views. TFTC.

19-May-12
Not alot of stealth needed today on this cold windy wonderful day of exploring! What a spot and quite deserving or a favorite. Thanks.

18-May-12
A beautiful fine day and I had spent too long inside during the week, time for a decent walk! Started off from the mouth of the Haape Stream about 9:30am. Came on to here from the Elevator cache, a really enjoyable walk in the sun with just the lightest of breezes and outstanding views. Found cache very quickly - signed log, TFTC!

WOW a joint FTF with boxhill Big GrinBig GrinBig Grin, Saw this cache when it was published and thought that I would leave it for another day, but then getting a phone call from boxhill how could I resist, you know that if the opportunity arises it is always a great possibility that I might give it a go.

After doing the pervious cache it was time to go to the next one with boxhill, I was quite amaze how quickly that I was already quite high and the elevation to the next cache wasnt as steep but was still a bit of a workout after the pervious cache it was a bit of a walk in the park.

Arriving at near GZ and realising where the cache was hidden the next exercise was to determine which and where to look, eeny meeny miny mo which bush or tree should I go, up or down a little high or a little low, is it here or is it there, it took a few seconds for the GPS to settle and once this happened it only took a few seconds to find the cache in the first spot that I looked.

Well done, glad to get another of these South Coast caches off my list of unfound caches, what a great spot for a cache and a chance to sit and enjoy my uninterrupted views of the lovely landscape, perfect views on a perfect day for a perfect placement in the end, thanks for placing a cache here and for bringing us to this lovely spot, TFTC TNLNSL (4364) Yeetrees FTF Craze also decided to come along to visit this cache as well.

14-May-12
Happy Days FTF Big Grin! As the weather had turned out to be a lot better than forecast I teamed up with Yeetrees for a late afternoon “stroll” around the loop to see if we could nab the FTFs. It sure was windy up here today or was that just “Special Effects”.

We got the FTFs on all 4 caches up here this afternoon, which was good as we didn’t have to have an argument on how to share out the FTF prizes. Luck I’m not allergic to nuts eah Wink !!!

Quite a strenuous walk, you’re going to do a fair bit of climbing no matter which way you go.TNLN SL TFTC
