We stamped the logs as "The Mob" to save space in the logs - today there were 6 teams caching together: Team Crackers, The Drovers, Phetlern, Alansee, the lovely micaparamedic and myself.

Most of the cache finds were straight forward, yet a couple stumped us. A few were located where it was difficult to safely pull the car off of the road, but we made it work with some creative maneuvers.

2020 was not a great year, and the beginnings of 2021 have also been tricky - so when it looked like the various borders would be open again (without quarantine restrictions), a trip that was planned at the Clear Waters mega was able to occur.

Adelaide, Victoria, NSW and Canberra - a decent drive, filled with various caching activities including Adventure Labs.

Several days caching with the awesome Team Crackers, gorgeous The Drovers, fab Phetlern, cool Alansee, and the lovely micaparamedic.

We laughed, sang to a vast variety of songs and chatted - almost non-stop! Cool[^] We piled into cars and had such a fun time. Despite the light showers, windy conditions at times, we also had sunny days to enjoy caching in.

A sincere thanks to Chalk It Up for placing these caches, including the enjoyable little series. Big Grin

Attending the Clear Water 2019 mega this Easter in Queanbeyan. Apologies for the generic log but we have found too many to compose individual logs. Many thanks to all the cache owners for their caches, which have been exceptional in their maintenance I have had only 1 dnf and that was only because I was not going to make a tree climb without seeing where the cache was. The vast majority of caches have had very good coordinates. Along with useful hints. TFTC

My First of a 9 day caching road-trip holiday I headed further South than usual, with the goal of finding as many caches as possible (and a few select ones for my stats). I'm just glad the temperature hasn't reached the highs yet.
Lots of dead whildlife scattered along the country roads, with the worst right near gz, I had to make the log duties as quick as possible to avoid the stench.

I found a total of 104 today.

Thanks for the caches.

Yesterday I was quite uncomfortable on the Tarago road PT so today I headed on a different direction. I was surprised by the number of vehicles on the road but at least there were nowhere near as many trucks.
I think I will finish with 40 and 1 but I did miss one somehow.
Thanks to all the COs whose caches I found today . Most were found easily due to good coordinates and very friendly hints.
All logs were either stamped or signed though sometimes as SG as I often do in small logs to save space.

Took to roads South with dty73 and Aquilus1 on a fantastic Winter’s day in a bid to find as many of the new power trail caches as possible (and other established caches where convenient). Big numbers were expected, and we weren’t disappointed.

Met up Northside at a comfortable 8.30am and headed towards passport control. Visas in order at Immigration we crossed the border to the Southside without incident. Eventually onto the Monaro Highway and wasn’t there a lot of traffic heading towards Canberra. End of school holidays/returning home from the snow traffic I guess. Don’t think it stopped all day, progressively just getting busier and busier.

Started then with a few early caches on the highway, with a left soon onto Williamsdale Road. Finds aplenty as we drove on, taking a right at the intersection onto Burra Road. More finds came thick and fast, with only the one DNF (of the day). Detouring we headed up Tinderry Road to the summit for some bonus finds, running into a few fellow cachers not far from the top, collectively then finding several more together. Great views afforded down and across the open expanse, snow sighted in the distance. Descended slowly back down the well maintained dirt road to the Burra Road trail and continued into Michelago. A cache at the neat and tidy train station followed by a ‘wished it was quick’ stop at the public facilities. Apparently an urgent ‘Needs Maintenance’ was sorely needed (fortunately for me I had previously taken a quick break, so no need for use here).

Back out to the highway and South for a few more, before retracing our steps and continuing North to Kelly Road. As a quick aside, we noticed a ‘throw down’ at one GZ, just past the turn into Michelago (North side). These types of caches may have a place in the game, if permission is sought and granted by the CO, or the CO has long since left the game, but, as this was part of the new power trail, rehidden by a previous finder two days before, exactly where it should be, the newly ‘deposited’ cache was removed. As a consequence, two particular cachers from the South Coast may wish to revisit and log their find, properly.

Ran again into the same rascals thereabouts that we were with along Tinderry. Continued conversations as we continually pulled up almost together with over the next 30 minutes before eventually heading our separate ways. Old Cooma Road next, and a quick stroll into a storm water drain before continuing the trail to the top of Burra Road. ‘It up’ed a few times before our final leg into Googong, finding the last caches for the day.

Time then to head home before we turned into Googonians, or, it was getting dark, it was already considerably cooler, and we were getting hungry. Dropped Aquilius1 and dty73 back at the carpark before heading over to the geoSister’s place who had been looking after The Matetrix for the day. Three cold refreshing crownies and a hot roast chicken with honey carrots, peas and broccoli dinner later, I was stuffed!!

Apologies for the generic logs, specifics will be added where pertinent. Details may not be 100% accurate, but are 100% how I recall them.

Thanks to dty73 and Aquilus1 for the great company and ALL the leg work, and andrewbt/LuckyL10n/Albida33 for the ‘shared’ finds.

And of course special thanks to ALL7 and all other CO's for all the hard work, keep it up.

Where to next?

I had the day planned with IamCoust and Aquilus1 to hit up the newer trails down south to help obtain the Hidden Creatures Souvenirs. Aquilus1 and I had already collected all 100 caches that we required and IamCoust had less than half needed, however IamCoust and I had also a plan to bet our own personal best days to catch over 115 caches in a day. And Aquilus1 can never say no to a caching adventure.

We left the north side at 8:30am and found the last cache around 4:30/5pm. We had taken our time, but did concentrate mainly on those park and grabs.

We had a blast, the weather was perfect, the company couldn't have been better and we even ran into fellow caching friends - LuckyL10n, Andrewbt and Albida33 who we travelled with to a few caches.

Most finds were good except one DNF at Burra #24 (to which Aquilus1 had previously found so had an idea of what and where we needed to look), one cache had literally a "throw down cache" which I found on the ground away from the sign, but Aquilus1 found the original cache pretty much straight away, but also found it funny that these cachers "found" the missing Burra #24 and didn't throw down one there (unless "it" went missing too)?? Stranger things have happened I guess.

This cache though, was all good and there is a lovely view from this spot too. TFTC!!!

F(H)ound it! #2738 @ 1:00 PM

With the Ridgeo-pup still in her PJs asleep in the back I managed to grab 55 caches for the Hidden Creatures souvenirs in 5 hours today.

So happy to see a windmill, it whired and squeaked today in the high wind.
Then my heart dropped when I saw GZ, so many hiding places. After some fruitless searching I stood back, took stock and saw a clear geo-trail leading to a likely spot.

Thanks for the cache, Chalk It Up

Today is the 1st of July 2018 and I managed to find 157 caches for the day. It was amazing, we did so many caches with only about 10 DNF’s for the whole day. We spent a total of almost 12 hours caching and I was dog tied at the end of it all. There were some highlights for the day, Joolay got her 1500th cache find, I got my 3500th cache find and Kitty Katch got her 5000th cache find. We spotted an Echidna, a Wombat and several thousand Kangaroos during the day. Not sure exactly how far we drove but it was many hundreds of kilometres. I love geocaching so much and the friends I have made along the way make it all worthwhile.

I have included one of the Geocaching poems that I have written. I hope that anyone reading it likes it. Thanks for all the caches and sorry for the generic log for this cache but with 157 caches in one day it would be too hard to write a different one for each cache.

Geocache Poem
By DARKSIDEDAN

My endless search goes on and on
Looking for treasures of every kind
Always chasing just one more find
Putting past DNF’s out of my mind

I step out into the world outside,
Seeking what is hidden from me
What size, shape or form will it be?
Only time will tell, I can’t wait to see

Will I find my prize at the end?
I will search in the failing light and cold
Filling with despair having looked everywhere
Where is this thing that gives my life pleasure?

Looking all around from every angle
I read the logs and check the hint
I curse out loud as I walk in circles
Screaming the bloody thing it not there

As time flies by and I fail to see,
Never once stopping to realize
It always been there before my eyes
No need for sorrow, there’s the Geocache.

***** I am currently writing detailed logs because of a challenge provided by Project-GC. "The Author" Badge challenges geocachers to average one hundred words or more in each log. As of 31st January 2018 my average was less than 70 words per log, which seems close to the 100 target. However given that I have found so many GC caches, I have to write many logs with well over 100 words for a long period of time to get my average to the target. Apologies to anyone who finds the logs tedious but it is the only way that I can strive to attain this challenge. After 3500 plus caches (which includes all cache finds up and including yesterday), the average log length is just over 90 words. I am now entertaining the possibility that I might be able to achieve my task before this year ends. Progress has been better than anticipated.*****

What a day! Geocaching, amazing places to see with a great geocaching crew – StrangeTrousers, matrx and SpecimenX. Special thanks to SpecimenX for all the driving and four-wheel fun in your Geo Mobile. Great company and a few laughs along the way.

Fun and highlights of the day. Big Grin

Meet up with fellow cachers on the road, near death experiences in long grass that was over my head (would I make it to the cache or perish lost in the undergrowth).Wink Top moment being the time spent at the Tinderry Trail. The view and sound of Lyre-bird turned a caching moment into something special. If anyone is going to go visit this cache please take note that there are kola’s in the area. We all were surprised by the kola sign on the road up. Who knew? Another one of those – learnt something new from caching moments.

Today was also the first time that I manged to get 100 + caches in a day thanks to the help of the caching crew.

A big day of geocaching with CBRChic, mtrax, SpecimenX in "The Wench" SpX's geo-vehicle. In fact, it was my biggest day of geocaching with well over 120 finds - a fantastic team effort. Perfect winter weather made the expedition a pleasure and the great company too. It was not all drive-by's today, an excursion up to Tinderry Tail was a lot of fun with some excellent scenery and Lyre-bird song.

Thanks to my geo-colleagues today for making it such a great time.

An invite from Aquilus1, to come with her and do what we could of this trail after she finished work? - yes - perfect! - I had a Meetup walk in the morning but I was home by the time she came and collected me ... We started at "Burra" and worked our way down the trail, picking up a couple of others mixed in, until we had to stop at #30 because A1 had a curfew ... we even got a couple of totally unexpected FTFs ... two that had been accidentally logged as found by someone who had not realised until later that they had missed them as they rushed along doing all the others Smile
TFTC - glad we ducked up for this while we were nearby ... I took arty photos of the Sunset/etc while A1 signed and replaced Smile

With the new souvenir challenge requiring the 100 caches the new power trails have been a big focus, and well timed! So have been putting them aside awaiting the challenge and had a few other caches in the area along the way as well to choose from. With these perhaps a bit further out of town it may have been best to wait for a day when I had longer time but I was also keen to make a start, so with Aykayem along as well we made the trip along to see what we could get found in the time we had in the late afternoon.

It was a bit of a long drive from the northside but soon enough we made that turn and arrived at our first cache. Sure was cold but with the heater going nicely and the addition of the beanie after the first few caches the cold wasn't noticed from then on, actually once the wind dropped on dusk it was quite bearable. Wasn't so sure about reception so went with offline lists which was a good choice with patches of poor and no reception but had a lot more coverage than had expected.

The scenery along the way is quite nice and made for a nice country drive, plenty of interesting animals and encounters along the way and although we only went along for half the planned trail as I had to return for family committments we did push on until 6.30pm. All caches found ok with just a couple that had us looking for a bit longer and in daylight would have been easier, quite enjoyed the location of the trail and looking forward to returning another time to finish it off in daylight hours to see the rest of the area. Thanks for the cache chalk it up.

Not far out of our way so after the nice little bridged Creek crossing soon found the good place to park. At gz we had to revert to the clue. Hmm, rock, but large narrowed it down and soon spotted the bit of blue. Nice scenery and liked the windmill spinning about.

This is our fourth trip to the northern island this year. The first three were primarily for family events but with some opportunities to do some caching along the way. The fourth trip is different as caching is our focus. After getting off The Spirit of Tasmania we are heading north to cache at Wangaratta and then Yass before heading into the ACT and Queanbeyan for a week. After that we will travel to Jindabyne for a few days with summiting Mount Kosciuszko being our main target for this part of our trip. Then we will visit Cooma and Tumut before heading back down the track through Wangaratta and Mansfield as we make our way to Alexandra for the MEGA. After the weekend we will continue to make our way south and back onto the Spirit of Tasmania for the “drive” across Bass Strait. We are really looking forward to three weeks of intense caching in great areas and, hopefully, catching up with some geocachers in each of the areas we will visit.

Today we left Queanbeyan and headed south caching along the way. Rather than initially going down the Monaro Highway, we detoured through Burra before rejoining the Monaro Highway at Michelago. From there we went down the highway to Cooma, cached for a little while there, before heading to Jindabyne where will stay for three nights. This will be our base for caching in the area, including an attempt to get to achieve one of the goals for a trip, to get to the top of Mount Kosciusko. We are just hoping for reasonable weather with the weather forecast suggesting a little rain.

Unfortunately we could not locate the next cache in the series. We continued on to this location. Initially we thought that another DNF was possible as there were so many possible hide locations. Despite accurate coordinates and the hint we were able to make a find after a minute or so. The cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks Chalk It Up for the cache and the series in a very pleasant rural area.

***** We are currently writing detailed logs because of a challenge provided by Project-GC. "The Author" Badge challenges geocachers to average one hundred words or more in each log. On 1 September 2017 our average was 86 which seems close to the 100 target. However given that we have found so many GC caches, we have to write many logs with well over 100 words for a long period of time to get our average to the target. Apologies to anyone who finds the logs tedious but it is the only way that we can strive to attain this challenge. After 383 caches (which includes all cache finds up and including yesterday), the average log length is just over 95.8. We are now entertaining the possibility that we might be able to achieve our gaol before this trip ends. Progress has been better than anticipated.*****

I checked all crevices in the vicinity of GZ with my torch, turned over probably 50 rocks to no avail. JetFuselage was getting reckless so we decided to abandon. Will return in winter to search again.

Thanks, Chalkie!!! I'm taking a run in my new car with Knightech, to show off the car's geocaching abilities with its GPS. We've found four today, of which this is the only one I haven't already found. Nice hide, nice view, and a very pleasant valley to drive in. I've found a problem with my car's GPS, as far as geocaching in company goes. It won't let a destination be set while the car's moving. Naturally, I hadn't noticed this while by myself, as I don't do silly things like that. But it wouldn't work for the passenger either!!! Drat. Otherwise, grate day and a great car.

Ah, the last find on a very enjoyable day out walking and caching with my muggle parents. I'm glad I looked at the clue as it could have taken a while to find this one. Thankfully it was only a few minutes.

Thanks Chalk for another great "it up" series. I really like them. Smile

I was out at South Googong Dam to do maintenance on one of my caches and noted that I hadn't grabbed this one yet. I did try to do this one last summer but after seeing one of the largest brown snakes I have ever seen, I left without attempting. With that in mind, this time of year is certainly better for finding this cache. A quick and easy find. TFTC.

Quite a few large rocks but we had it in hand very quickly thanks to a suspicious cairn. TFTC
