Lots of new houses, and with them a load of new muggles and mugglets. Check the cache and it is definitely lost. Will consider a different approach before replacing - I'm sure another medium container in this spot will not last the distance.
Thanks to the finders, especially those whom have favoured so far...

Can the CO do a cache check please? I have had two visits and conducted a thorough search each time with no luck. A great interesting location. Thanks from Aries44.
This was my second visit in the last few months. Searched high and low (but mainly low) to no avail. On both visits GZ was indicating in roughly the same position each time. I had to wait for a tradie to unload his vehicle. There is a lot more activity in the area as the homes are getting close to occupancy.
I fear the cache has gone.
Can the CO do a location check? Thanks.

Quick stop on the way home from work. 2nd attempt at the site after being freaked by the business of people constructng homes during the day in very close proximity to GZ. Much easier at dusk!

Out with Krafty Charlie, Cheeky Cachers and a muggle. Thanks for the cache Mr C! An interesting area
What a nice spot to place a cache. Took longer than it should but got there after phone settled on GZ.

Checked after a recent log. Contents were wet due to container being bent out of shape. Took three ruined bits out and replaced log book. Good to go
Alls good - but wow, progress on the development has been fast. Bumped the difficulty up to 2.5 stars, as the site is now muggle central, and will eventually be right outside a muggle household. Now recommend this be attempted at night to avoid suspicious eyes.
Found it earlier today, but went back tonight to log it due to too much muggle activity.
Grew up in Dapto and never knew this was here. Thanks for the little bit of history. Found with fellow cacher Elmo2011.
Found with GillandTony and Rock-hopper today after the CITO event. Cool site, nice to see it preserved among the houses being built. TFTC!
What an interesting area. I would never have known about this if Rock-hopper hadn't decided to show this to us after the CITO EVENT. Really glad that they have kept the smelter in place, rather than demolishing it all. TNLNSL. TFTC and thanks to Rock-hopper too
Great spot!
I never knew these remnants existed despite passing by many times.

Had never heard of this historic site & found it quite fascinating to wander around, looking at all the for sale signs on the blocks of land around the ruins there`s going to be some changes here over the next few years, I hope people respect the ruins. Places like this are one of the reasons why `caching can be so much fun, I certainly wouldn`t have visited here otherwise, favourite point from us.
Picked up the TB, LN,SL TFTC

Was great.even spoke to the granddaughter of the owner of the land who bought after the smelter
Its good to see that places like these are preserved around Wollongong, and Ding thought too. Hoojar mentioned that they normally are just bulldozered down.
Cheers.
Cheers.
This evening Ding and I were driving Chip around to a few caches that she had not found.
Our first find. Item still looks ok, item busily buried again by our 6 year old
tftc! took 8year old little sis and bro on their treasure hunting adventure. they swapped some things
Quick cache check for the New Year. Hidey hole is now well disguised from the increasing muggle activity in area. If container continues to deform, please note this in your logs and I will make a suitable replacement. blue_mars
working nearby today I needed a calender find and one to keep my streak going. love a history cache so came and had a look . after doing the duties a security guy came passed whist I was reading the plaques. TFTC

What a great bit of history. Love how it is built in to the new estate! GPS had me jumping about a bit but then spotted a good place. TFTC # 264
This one Was FUN, educational and even inspiring to build a new home....
Slightly challenging in that the GPS took us to a spot where it was impossible to reach the geocache... Jumped back in the car put on some common sense and found our first geocache with "real Treasure" as the kids put it... we had a great look at the contents and then did a made dash to the car to find something of equal value... choices made and children happy! Thanks Blue Mars!

I have up-to-date maps in my car gps but these new streets still not recognised so had to ignore the directions in favour of common sense. Looks like this will be a nice estate with some retained history but GZ smelt awfully fishy today.
What a great place to discover. We had no idea these remains were still standing. Thanks for sharing blue mars.
WOW what a great piece of heritage! Found the cache quite quickly but spent a further 20 minutes wandering around reading the plaques at the remains. Thanks Blue mars for your cache and for showing me this place.
What an interesting spot, and how fantastic to see this vital bit of Illawarra history incorporated into new development!
Found the cache while Wilbert67 waited, then we checked out the rest of the estate.

Well I never even knew this site was here. I am really glad to see it kept as part of the neighbourhood. Thanks for bringing me here. A favourite for the location.
A quick find for Dingo and I this morning. Great to see such preservation of our Region's history. I can only imagine the excitement of Dr Nightingale when he found this cache the other day!
Cheers

What a great spot for a cache, we really like what they have with this area, presrerving the history. We had a bit of a look quite intresting. TNSL TFTC
They have put in a bit of effort here to save some history, unusual in this day and age.

Didn't even know this place existed, was a bit excited when we discovered a new cache in the area. Being 2.3km from home as the crow flies, we decided to tackle this one on our treadlys. Enjoyed the ride on this beautiful afternoon, basically followed the bike path all the way. Picked up GC. TFTC
I had a vague knowledge of this site's existence but had never been able to reach it before. Great to see it now and to see how sympathetically the site has been treated. I had no idea that the masonry was so extensive or well preserved. I did not know that there had been blast furnaces on the site. This brings the tally for the Illawarra to at least 12 of various types, shapes and sizes over the years. Had a good walk around after making the find. TFTC
We were referred to this by Krafty Charlie, and what a cache it is!!
This is why we love geocaching!
What an excellent location!!
We walked around at GZ taking in all the information on the well noted plaques.
A great place with a fantastic history behind it.
It'll be interesting to see how the developers incorporate the remains in with the housing... so far it looks pretty good.

Had planned of saving this one for another time to fill in a caching day. However I had to drop off my daughter for a party that close I couldn't resist! Well found spot, not a soul around (will be different when all the houses are built!). Quick find, hope the container is waterproof.

What a great spot for a cache! I had either seen the wall driving along nearby but I think I've also seen it from paddling on Mullet Creek. In any case, it is fantastic to see that the council has undertaken some work to not only preserve this site but also provide some information along the way.
The cache was made waaaayy harder than it needed to be but got there in the end. TFTC!

It appears to have been a busy place today. Its great to see what they've done with this area to preserve the history.
I ended up making this a park and grab and had the cache quickly in hand. We then drove around and checked out the new estate.
Thanks Blue Mars

We had often heard about this smelter and for many years wanted to have a look to see if we could find any remains and if it wasn’t for geocaching we would not have known about the extent of the work done in recent times to this site. It’s great to see that they are now preserved it for future generations.
Thanks blue_mars for hiding the cache and giving us an extra reason to visit this area.
Left PS stylus, bottle opener keyring and foreign coins.

We thought it only fitting that we got a mention in the cache notes that we are the first to find !!!!!!.
This site is amazing!!! Finally somewhere in the Illawarra we have retained our heritage in a proper manner. Thanks for the cache and a perfect location. This is going down as a favorite!!!! 10 out of 10.
To add to your information about the smelter, if you click on geocahching maps and then go sattelite, you will notice a green corridor between Edgeworth Ave and Thirroul Rd. That was the rail line running from the smelter to what was to be the dock near the site of Tallawarra Power Station. It is interesting that our first home backed onto this corridor and some of the trees in there are what we planted. OH how old we sound :( Thanks again for the cache

Saw this one come up and grabbed the geokids and geodog for a quick dash. Drove up and saw people already there. Realising they were still looking boys jumped out and the hunt was on. It was great meeting Sexygirlkel, finally putting a face to a name we see frequently. They got the find, all were excited until log was opened and low and behold none of us was 1st! Oh well, what a great detour to the afternoon though. What a fantastic job they have done to keep the remains. TFTC
Oooohhh SO close! LOL. Interesting area. Bumped into grumblingscouts who rocked up not long after us. Was very exciting hunting for the container...who would find it first??? BINGO!!!!....oh wait crap....Krafty Charlie beat us all hahaha. Cool container. TNLN SL TFTC
