My preferred means of getting to the breakwall is via 7 Mile Beach however the Shoalhaven River mouth has been open for months & a visit today at low tide sees it in full flow & very wide. The ferry costs $10 which is expensive. I don't own a boat. Previous containers have been vandalized or removed by persons unknown which could be a reflection of my hiding ability . Unfortunately I have decided to archive it.

Per NPWS

Comerong Island Nature Reserve is closed to the public until further notice. Due to recent heavy rains access roads within the nature reserve are closed. Access will be reviewed on Wednesday 26 August 2020.

Access from Shoalhaven Heads is no longer possible as the river mouth is open & has been for several months - refer my Waymark: DESTINATION: Shoalhaven River - Pacific Ocean.

19-May-20
Unable to access to do maintenance as river mouth open at Shoalhaven Heads, ferry for residents only during pandemic & don't own a boat.

17-Aug-19
Sorry but I found the hint and looked and look but no luck!

28-Mar-19
Walked up from Shoalhaven Heads to check but couldn't find the cache so replaced it. Averaged the co-ords for the time it took to eat lunch (left a tad late & suffered the nor-easter on the return). Half way saw an innovative fisherman who used an electric bike suitably shod to get around. Location & hint will be changed.

Walked down from the surf club, and it was a pretty good, but long stroll along the beach, about 12km according to my smartwatch, but the almost complete absence of people after the first 500 metres made it pretty special.

Got to the gz, found a way to logoff, which revealed a likely looking location for the cache, but, alas, it was empty.

Spent another 10 minutes looking around, but, after all that walking, we headed back up the beach cacheless.

Thanks for the excuse for a long walk up the beach though.

02-Mar-19
Appears it maybe missing given two DNFs in a row so I too shall take that long walk down the beach to hide a replacement.

23-Jan-19
Unfortunately after quite some time of searching, no luck today. But totally enjoyed the beautiful views.

10-May-18
Great hide and beauty place to go exploring

07-Apr-18
Found with VK4GMC assisting. Also a found a shed snake skin nearby! Thank you for the hide.

07-Apr-18
The crossing on the Comerong Island ferry at the time of writing still cost $10 return as in the cache notes, but is now EFTPOS only rather than coin collection.

Such a great spot. Kayaked over and then a quick trail to the spot. Thanks for my most adventurous find yet

TFTC, first time riding a fat bike on the sand, found with Fit02 Smile

20-Nov-17
Walked up from The Heads for a bit of exercise, a long way but have done it several times. My pedometer indicated 18712 steps overall which varied from soft to hard packed sand. Best at low tide. Rehid cache in a slightly different location as the other had been muggled. Averaged co-ords. Took a plastic bag & filled it to overflowing with plastic crap on the return. Found a bird that had been killed by a balloon which had strangled its body. Even a dead wallaby, dogs perhaps.

Because I did maintenance & replaced the original cache which had been muggled.

Three separate actions just to enable a cache - that's progress.

23-Jul-17
The 6 unicorns spent a good hour here searching high and low - no luck for us today

23-Jul-17
An actual DNF recorded so I shall go & have a look see.

31-Dec-16
The break wall has had its share of ocean wipe outs. Looking at how long since it was last found, and that we couldn't find it today I think the owner needs to go take a look and see if it's where it should be

31-Dec-16
Given that it doesn't get many visits, there has been no DNFs recorded, tempests have been no worse than the usual, I don't agree with the maintenance request.

We hired a motor boat and had a very nice but chilly adventure getting this lovely cache. We were worried that it wouldn't be here any more as it hadn't been found for a while and there has been some serious storms in that time. The cache was happily found. What a magnificent beach and view. Thanks!

This cache was our first marine adventure. Crossing over from Orient Point to Comerong Island by boat.
Finding the cache was the second bit kick for the adventure. Tuena TFTC
The breakwater is a big one.

a little more luck on my second attempt, as i brought along my wife to watch my son so i could focus on looking rather than trying to keep him from hurting himself

After a paddle in the river mouth stopped to find this cache. Nice spot with few surfers around.

20-Jul-14
TFTC great adventure across the beach.

23-Apr-14
Weather was perfect so jumped in the kayak and paddled across to comerong island. Thought the muggle tourists would be everywhere but not a soul on the beach or breakwall. Left our pawprints in the sand and took some nice photos of the setting sun. Gentle paddle back to the Point with the tide. A perfect afternoon so a fav for us. TFTC!

Found with the WEEO on a great days outing. This one took a while to find because we used the clues which we must have interpreted incorrectly or something. Thank goodness for photos Wink

I took my almost new Landcruiser out through the bush to do this one. A few fisher muggled about but far enough away not to disturb us. The co-ords are a bit North of the current GZ. TFTC TNLN SL

This cache has finally made its way to the top of my unfound caches list. I saw 3 options for retrieval: 1) pay $10- and use the ferry. 2) Drive the long way round to Shoalhaven Heads then walk a very long way along the beach or 3) Borrow a kayak and paddle the 500 mtrs across the Crookhaven River from Crookhaven Heads. Option 3 was the most direct route to the cache and we know a true cacher will always take the most direct route to a cache no matter what !
A muggle friend offered to loan me a kayak and even tag along for a bit on fun on a sunny saturday morning. We checked out the weather & the tide - a gentle SE breeze and an incoming tide that would peak at 1.9 mts at about 1pm. We set off at about 9.30am and the current was strong but didn't present too many challenges.

Once ashore in a little sandy cove it was a short walk on a bush track to the beach then another 100 mtrs or so to GZ. There were no fisher muggles so it was a quick & easy search. The cache is dry & in good condition.

The paddle back was the most challenging part of our morning. It was close to 11am and getting close to the high tide peak. Despite our ferocious paddling we were just swept upstream with the intense flow of the tide. We were so glad that it was an incoming tide otherwise I think we would now be out in the Pacific Ocean.

We both had an awesome morning's adventure thanks to your cache Tuena ! SL TFTC Favourite Point

Well I took the long road from Shoalhaven Heads. My little car would not have got far on the island anyway. An hour and fifteen walking, ten minutes of searching then the long walk back. A beautiful day, no clouds, no wind and about 22 degrees. TFTC There is a clue in the description.

Changed the hint.

A very pleasant drive out to the island, where we encountered swamp wallabies and sooty oyster catchers on the way to and from GZ. The cache was located after a short search, most of which was conducted on the wrong side unitl something in the cache description clicked. We almost but not quite had the place to ourselves, there were a few fishermuggles just within shouting distance. Haven't been out here for ages, and the track was the driest I have ever seen it; last visit was work related and we had to winch and snatch some vehicles through the bog holes on the way back out - the warning signs aren't for show! Thanks for the cache Tuena.

As I was camping in Shoalhaven Heads this weekend, I took the beach option. Runned/walked the 11 km in little over an hour and had the great reward at the end. I think the boating option would be by far the easiest!

Today was a perfecr spring day to fill up a gap day on my calendar.

Enjoyed the drive out, and the RAV handled the rough track well. But once at GZ my GPS sent me to the wrong side of the track, so a quick ca;l to the CO put me right. There is no need to move every rock in the rock wall!!!!

Oh, and you do have to pay the ferryman - it's gone up to $10 now, and all required in coins - no capacity to accept notes!

TFTC and the help, Tuena!
