I liked this cache! Simple but creative.

Trip log: When cheap flights presented the opportunity to go to NZ with GreyHams, who was keen to get the 5 2000 caches and the web cam I was of course very keen to tag along. I didn't want to miss out on that... Equally as keen for those caches myself and the first chance to get the passport out in a long time and head overseas while we could. Covid Happenings of course did put the trip in doubt and a last minute effort from GreyHams to get the flights changed and it was looking like this might actually happen... until I arrived I truly didn't think it would!

The cache list was quite simple, the 5 2000 caches and the webcams. Of course we did look at others as we travelled, types, DT, not chosen which were in abundunce and caches of quality, if your cache made our list it had a quality we needed. Many thanks for your cache that helped guide us along our way.

Certainly it was a memorable time, barefoot 500 plus metres across a mud estuary of shells and crabs was more fun than it should be. As was pushing through wet thick high flax or tall wet grass across to the caches. But the most memorable would be the fog, the thickest, most relentless fog but it provided some stunning scenery at times and was just crazy.

I loved seeing all the chinese takeaways that did fish and chips, the perfect hedges and a deserved shout out to Indian Zaika for its great food! Certainly with the fog and rain it was an interesting trip and we got quite drenched at times, it hid a lot that NZ has to offer but 'it's a caching trip' after all so it ticked all the right boxes and was very enjoyable regardless. Huge thanks to GreyHams for letting me tag along while he did all the planning, booking, driving and sending in the answers for the caches... as always!

Trip log:

International travel!!...OMG it feels good. Grabbed some cheap flights and anxiously waited for some outbreak to derail the plan, but that amazingly didn't happen. Sure, I had to scramble and reroute our trip via Brisbane & Sydney as we were originally going through the plague pit...aka Melbourne, but we still made it.

Having done most of the North Island, it was good to finally have a crack at the South. 5 year 2000 caches and a webcam, thats a nice little haul. Sure, some of the year 2000 caches involved bush bashing....in the rain/fog/mist...but we got them all. We had lots of other little targets like getting all our types/sizes/DT, NZ in particular has so many 'Not Chosen' size caches, super rare back in Oz, so we made sure to get as many as possible. If you are reading this, its because this cache had a quality we were chasing.

As always, the Earthcaches and the Virtuals took us to some really cool places, the Steampunk HQ and the boulders being birthed at the beach being the highlights. My favourite cache though would have to be the one where we had to walk 500m over a mud flat, dodging shells and crabs with our bare feet.

This trip will be remembered as the 'fog trip' as we saw a lot of it, which meant we saw little else. Oh, that and how every Chinese takeaway also doubles as the fish & chip shop....its a thing!

Day 7 - of our epic adventure around amazing Oamaru. With Geofest17 and Danseys Pass and A2O bagged, we are off exploring Oamaru again. These feet are made for walking - so lets checkout the Skyline Walkway.
First one in this series today. Snagged and tagged. Cheers. Onwards and upwards.

26-Oct-17
Taybeedragon and I are here, on the Skyline Trail, primarily for just one reason: The final provides the missing D/T for the dragon to qualify for a local challenge. But let's face it, the trail is a great walk above Oamaru, with a number of wonderful little spaces scattered throughout.
So, tackling them in numerical order, this one is first. I have no idea why cache owners sometimes set their sizes to not chosen or unknown. The cache size is nearly always a micro. Gatheres the code and on to the next....

23-Oct-17
Out and about with Karma Reprint this weekend, it was time to claim the Skyline walkway. Hosing down most of the way and the southerly blowing, it possibly wasn't the best weather but the occasional view when the clouds parted made it worthwhile. Parked up and off we go. Cheers

23-Oct-17
I was a wee bit rainy today, but we carried on to finish the the holiday on a high. A nice quick find. Cheers.

Time for some final caches around Oamaru, and then cruise on home, with Kiwi Moose. Signed the logs K2MR for brevity. Thanks to the CO's for the Caches.

Today our last day in Oamaru we spent mostly picking up local traditional caches, it was a wet day, but good for caching anyway. Today was also the day our team broke 4000!
thanks to all the CO's for placing the caches for us to find

22-Oct-17
We had a tiny bit of energy to fit a few of these in at the end of our geofetive weekend, but not much. Weather was still playing fair. Tftc

21-Oct-17
I've decided I'll have to come up to Oamaru sometime over the summer to have a bit of an explore around the pathways in this area. Thanks Smile

21-Oct-17
thanks for the placement, we have been loved travelling and visiting the roads of oamaru and the many caches each CO has taken the time to place, thank you for taking the time to place and maintain them.

Arrived last night here in beautiful Oamaru - with Jag50 and Aiden29 - for the Labour Weekend Geofest. And this is our first cache of the weekend. A quick find! ...which is a good start Smile

Joined up with Aiden29 and BertieB to head south for the Geofest in Oamaru. We arrived a day early and decided to tackle this series today. Parked close to GZ and soon found the cleverly disguised cache.

Heading towards the Oamaru Geofest.
I crossed the great Waitaki and began caching in earnest, wending my way towards the Challenge Caches.
Challenges complete with time now to head up onto the ridge for a few more.
My third and last Skyline cache. After this I went and found #4 and realised that there was no point in continuing with the series Sad

We were over in Oamaru having a committee meeting yesterday. It was a long productive meeting. No park and grabs due to the Camper breaks being stuffed. The rain is bearable at the moment.
This was our first stop. Onwards and upwards.

#12472. It was perfect weather for a winter walk along the skyline. The first of the series was a quick find. TFTC.

05-Jun-16
After finding half a dozen caches in the morning, it was time to head back to the motel for a warming cuppa and something to eat to sustain us for the rest of the day. Because the weather was so good (apart from being a tad chilly), we decided to tackle most of the caches around the sky line trail - which turned out to be more energetic than anticipated.
Parked nearby and this was the first cache of our looooong walk in the hills. With good co-ords, this was a quick find as I have found a few hidden this way. A nice hide with which to start the trail, and a good indication of the quality of the hides found. TFTC.

Showed a few friends the mystery of geocaching, the skyline Walkway was perfect for that! Cool Caches, nice view over Oamaru!

Headed down south with C&D and 11HPG11 for the CHCH Mega as part of the HOAC team, and decided that a Mega road trip/Mega Mission was the right thing to do. After a great day caching from Dunedin to Omarama we manged to get a few hours sleep before the big day 2 started.

Day 2 was the start of a ambitious plan to try and find as many caches as possible in one day! To maximise our chances of a big number we decided a 24 hour caching day was the only way to go. What an epic day, and some great moments too. The rough idea was to cache from Omarama to Oamaru, and then head north towards Christchurch. A huge thanks to everyone for the cache placments, and I apologise for the copy and past logs.

Find #220 for the day.

25-Oct-15
This was the start of a MEGA caching weekend in the company of good caching friends. In the company of both HKCB & 11HPG11 this was going to be another memorable caching road trip for many reasons.

This is the mission that we had set ourselves up for several months back. It was HKCB's idea, I was just dumb enough to think it was a challenge and I'd be up for it, 11HPG11 was silly enough to come along for the ride once we confirmed a spare seat (Nova Lightening pulled out for family reasons).

We were going to try to beat the NZ one day record in New Zealand (it would have been easier with 4 people), so after 2.5hrs sleep after a good feed at Omarama we were ready to go. This was the number two hundred and twenty second on what was to be an epic day with what amounted to 401 caches collected for the day and about 38 DNF's. We managed this with 10minutes to spare but by this time we were done for and still had to drive back to Kaiapoi. All in all an epic days caching with good friends and something I don't think any of us will repeat in a hurry.

All in all it was going to be a big day with a number of challenges, great scenery, and of course great company. Fantastic driving along and up here as the landscape was so different from what we are used to back in the Waikato. One good thing about backroads being that we could continue our neferious activites without being disturbed by muggles.

Nice quick find here without any issues Cool.
thanks for the placement , thanks for the cache

What a Mega Mission for a group of Hamilton Over Achievers! A great trip, a long time in the planning. I teamed up with Cats&Dragons and HKCB to grab a couple of caches while in Christchurch and surrounding areas for the 2015 Mega Event. We flew out from Auckland on Friday night and traveled to Dunedin in the dark of the night. Stopped for a few hours sleep before setting off to grab caches in the Otago area on Saturday before attempting a few more on Sunday and then arriving at the Mega on the Monday. An amazing, yet crazy road trip

When C&D mentioned a day with over 400 caches I should have turned and ran... instead I said yes, and here we are. 401 caches in 23 hours and 50 minutes. All done on about 2.5hr of sleep. It was hard work with only 3 of us and there were times that were hard and tiring but I still had a blast! An amazing experience that one has to be slightly crazy to even consider

Loved looking around here. Thanks for placing the caches to show us around. A bit of a hunt and it was soon found

25-Oct-12
Woke up to another beautiful day in North Otago had decided to go down to Dunedin to attended the first ever Mega in New Zealand and my first ever MEGA. Managed to work it out so that I was able to team up with -gonefishing-, fozzmiester and agcnz on an 9 day caching trip around the South Island, this was day 7 of the road trip. Today we were making our way form Oamaru to Timaru for the night and picking up a few caches on our way.

We decided that we would go and pick up a few caches around Oamaru before we made our way north to Timaru for the night. After checking out of our accommodation we decided that we would go up hills that were overlooking Oamaru and pick up the caches that were on this lovely walkway.

Managed to find a nice safe parking spot on Orwell Street and then it was time to make our way to our first cache for the day on the Skyline walkway, we also have a Skyline walkway in Wellington, but the one in Wellington take us about 7 hours to walk and yes there is definitely a bunch of caches up there as well.

The walk to GZ didnt take too long and as we neared GZ, reading the description and realising who the CO was this was going to be a matter of good luck or just fluking it. As we neared GZ, our GPSr started pointing us to a spot that looked promising and we soon spotted something that required a closer inspection, and we soon realised that it was the cache.

Managed to retrieve the cache, signed and then replaced the cache back where I found it. Thanks drawp for placing this cache here and for bringing me to this spot, TFTC TNLNSL (5224). Glad that we managed to find it quickly, can just imagine the frustration that a cache like this can cause.

Now it is time to start making our way up this steep hill to the next cache, this is 1 of 15 caches to find up here Red FaceSurprised.

With a Skyline series of my own back in Wellington how could I not do this one, especially on such a nice morning. A quick find to start the series. Thanks for the cache drawp.

Found as part of an epic NZ Mega Event trip. Day 7 - Oamaru and surrounds before heading North to Timaru in the company of agcnz, -gonefishing- and Yeetrees. Thanks to the owners of the 500 + caches which I had the pleasure to find along the way and which contributed to a very fun trip.
