Decided to stay another night at Ludlow Reserve so we could do more of the Rail Trail. Previously we'd gone as far as the bridge, today we did the next section to Tallangatta. This is a great trail to ride. TFTC The Trail Crew.
Left from the campsite in Tall. Got a bike from a family in the village and I was ready to go !
Was not able to complete the serie but nevertheless it was beautifull.
After 11km I went back.
Thanks for the nice trail.

While heading to Canberra for the Mega lead up event plus a couple of others and a few other missions along the way, I was now heading on a bit of a side excursion for the next mission which was to pick up another LGA.
It was now time to deploy the bike and hit the trail to find the ones along here.
I was now heading back the other way to this one, once there it was a quick find.
**Thanks to The Trail Crew for placing this cache.**

Day two of the HCRT grand adventure and today Geosnag1 was on foot running as he needed to get some k’s under his legs whilst StrangeTrousers and LuckyL10n and myself where on our bikes. It was a tad cold and windy when we started however the day cleared and wind died down to make it a pleasant experience.
The Start was at Huon and ending at “End of the Line”. Today was a little more of a challenge on the bikes with most of it being uphill but still very enjoyable and should not be a challenge for anyone with normal fitness levels. Again the views were stunning with added wisps of fog or clouds over the lake and hills to give you that “ahhh” moment. Really enjoyed all the different types of cache containers and hides.
Yes I had a good laugh at being thrown up a tree by StrangeTrousers and LuckyL10n and we agreed that the highlight was the bridge crossing and are very grateful that some of these old rail way lines have been turned into rail trails for others to enjoy.
All logs signed as "LSGC" being LuckyL10n, StrangeTrousers, Geosnag1 and CBRChic

#7414 - 10:40; A plan was hatched a few weeks back with StrangeTrousers and CBRCHIC to tackle the High Country Rail Trail (HCRT) from Wodonga to Tallangatta this weekend. After completing the first half yesterday afternoon, we were back this morning to wrap up the journey, albeit a little saddle sore in my case. We started a little east of where we finished yesterday, after dropping the bikes and then taking the geomobile to the end of the trail ready for our arrival later in the day. It was another enjoyable ride along the trail with lake views most of the way. I can't believe how long it took the mist to clear from the hilltops, particularly given the strong breeze we encountered along the way. Apologies for the largely generic logs. We again found all of the caches we were after today, still signing as LSGC and still resorting to the cache name for inspiration when we got a little stuck. Again, most were in good condition, with some which are in need of some TLC. TFTC The Trail Crew
#3117 8 of 40 today.
Day 2 of the HCRT trip.
Out with CBRChic, LuckyL10n & Geosnag1.Today was another fantastic day's caching out along the HCRT starting just past "All Aboard at Huon & ending at "End of the Line". The scenery once again was amazing, but it was bitterly cold this morning. We didn't kick off until about 10 after to-ing & fro-ing cars and bikes and today, GS1 was on foot, but still managed to outpace us ! This part of the trail was a lot more uphill than expected, and into the biting wind for the most part. The wind did eventually drop as we neared the end and it was once again a very pleasant day.
Highlights for me were: pushing CC up into a tree, the bridge crossings, the view and the sense of achievement.

I came on this trail exactly 2 years ago and did 61 caches ending on this side of Sandy Ck bridge. No water then under the new bridge but plenty today. I did the remaining caches in this series on bike and sometimes walking ending up with 30 odd caches on a beautiful autumn Saturday.
Thanks for this series and sorry for generic logs but they all blend together mostly a few days later.

What a great series. We spotted the series and that resulted in us driving from the southern highlands down across the border for 3 days of caching. With two young geokids we had to split up the series and manage what we could each day in hot weather. The occasional dip in the lake to cool off then off again.
We managed to find almost every one and the titles were often very helpful. TFTS.
Like many others writing a generic log is not great but to be honest we have hit that many caches it is tricky to remember every individual one!

Back to logging a few more of these after a couple of days break.
Covering the HCRT over 2 days on our trip from Canberra to Albury we had a wonderful time riding around the lake. There are spectacular views all the way and the lake was so full after a wet spring.
A few DNFs over the course of the trip, and some tired caches, but all in all a really wonderful adventure and some beautiful birdlife and animals along the way.
Thanks The Trail Crew for placing this series.

Suscoe had a most enjoyable day out today in the very good company of Phetlern following this trail to Old Tallangatta.
It was a mild to warm day with cloud and the occasional sunshine breaking through.
We enjoyed the various hides along the trail.
Cache found and the log signed.
This is a beaut place to geocache and we thank The Trail Crew for placing these caches out here.

Being camped on the shore of the picturesque and currently overflowing Lake Hume, with our great geo-friends the Suscoe duo gave us the perfect opportunity to put some more smiley tokens along the HCRT series. We thoroughly enjoyed finding such a variety of hides, which we tried to predict by the cache name.
The termites were trying to add extra cammo here!

One day we would love to come back and ride the whole trail, but today there was just time for a few easy grabs from the main road. My mother (who is not a cacher) really enjoyed the stroll in between the showers. Thanks Trail Crew.
#1805 An easy find here.
I came from Canberra to spend 2 days caching along this High Country Rail Trail. I parked my car & cycled along. There was no rain today, just wind. Today is day 2. It was a great experience. Loved the old train stations, views of Lake Hume, the variety and styles of caches, overflowing rivers and floodplains and wonderful rolling green hillsides. I found a total of 89 caches.

Last night a plan was hatched that the boys would take the geobikes on a ride
After some lessons and practice riding off they set, with a quick return for lunch before heading off into the sunset,
A successful and fun day with only 1 DNF and some fun variety hides along the way, but sore ............... bottoms after a full on day... lol.

Heading the opposite direction from Sandy Creek bridge and off towards Tallangatta now. We were quick to spot this item of years gone by and find a cache nearby too! SL at 1.06pm TNLN and away to see where the horses cross. #3454

I had decided to spend a few nights in Tumbarumba with some friends. The plan was to do some day rides around the area. We had a wonderful time, and picked up some caches during our travels. This was one of them. tftc.
Another 4kms of the hcrt conquered today with cristabel. #1 for the day. Great day to be on the bikes on the trail. Mild & overcast with a slight breeze. Tftc

We are taking family from England to see the sights and we travelled to Wodonga to see our daughter and grandson. From there we headed out on a couple of day trips to Rutherglen, Glenrowan and the Hume weir.
I've done a few of the HCRT series before and decided to grab a few more today. I took the brother-in-law with me and we parked a bit up the road and walked to this one, which was a quick and easy find
The cache was in good condition. We took nothing, left nothing, signed the log and replaced the container as found. Dave signed as DDCrash, just in case he ever takes up the game in ernest.
Thanks The Trail Crew for the cache.

Found together with Fwsbg during out trip to Thredbo.
Unfortunately, I haven't gotten round to log my finds in way over a year. Hence, in order to keep track, I now have to do only short logs. Otherwise I'll never have a chance to be up to date again...

On our holiday in Australia, Azisa and I took a rental car to drive from Adelaide to Sydney. Of course, we wanted to see the "Australian Alps" as well! On our way to Thredbo, we enjoyed the view at the parking lot and recognized a Cache just 160 m away...lets go and get it! It was a quick find. On our way back to the car we saw a big snake crawling through the grass!
thank you for the hide!

Spending a few days exploring the area and enjoying the sunny days around the dam. Today we enjoyed a couple of hours caching. Our thanks for placing this series.
Found on our journey back from the Mega in Stanthorpe. We decided to stay one more day and see if we could complete the series today. The weather was perfect and the numbers might be achievable if we separate. Mr Morris worked out the logistics of transport, cycling, meeting up and then repeating it all over again until we were done.

[font=Comic Sans MS]Hi there The Trail Crew. We found your cache "Of Years Gone By - HCRT Series" at 9:19:00 AM today. This cache makes our find count 10524.

This was our 4th find in the series this morning. Ian enjoyed the cycle along the trail, but as Penny is still learning to ride a bike she finds the going fairly difficult. (Once she gets the hang of the gears she will find it easier). [8)]
Please excuse our boilerplate logs, hopefully they won't detract from the great caches we found today
[/Blue]
Coordinate Accuracy: We found the cache around 2m from where the GPS said we should be looking.
Cache Condition: The container and log book are in good shape.
Thanks for the hunt today,
Regards

Headed to Albury this long weekend on a Geomission with Rapidlywild and specimenX.
Today was the day to attack the HCRT trail, not starting out as early as we should have this was going to be interesting to see if we would actually completely finish it. SpecimenX and myself on the bikes and Rapidlywild in the geomobile.
This trail was indeed a lovely ride with some great company and chatter to take our minds off some slight inclines along the way but we were also rewarded with some really stunning views.
Another one ticked off on our journey, logging duties performed and then on our way again.

Well the weekend was upon us and the planned Geomission with specimenX and FurfacesLL in Albury/Wodonga was here
We had been planning this weekend for sometime now and had been busy solving puzzles in preparation for the weekend. We spent the weekend doing the HCRT trail, some of the HSS series and some surrounding areas.
Officially day 1 of the attack on Albury/Wodonga area. Today we had plans to attack the HCRT Trail via pushbike and collect some random ones along the way also.
FurfacesLL and specimenX went off on the pushies while I went off in the geomobile to meet them at certain locations and continue the trail on foot. Logging duties completed and on we went.

out for a ride with friends to get a couple of geocaches on a lovey day. couldn't get all of them because we were running out of time but the ones we found were excellent!
Found with pprass and Team Pathfinder on a lovely cool day for cycling on the Rail Trail. This is necessarily a generic log but I will endavour to make individual comments also.
Found at 1:23 PM GAFF1 in the company of Alansee and Ian from Ian&Sue - Team Pathfinder.
We finally woke up to a beautiful day, which meant that our plan that we hatched the previous night around the camp fire at Richo's of finishing off this series after nearly a 13 month gap was on!
It really was a beautiful day - still and clear as a bell which highlighted the beautiful valley in its autumn colours.
Thanks The Trail Crew.
ps: We signed the log books as Team APIS

We met up with Pprass and Alansee at Richardson Bend to spend a couple of days camping on the Murray River. After a rainy day on Saturday the sun was shining on Sunday so it was decided that a cycle on the HCRT was in order. We found 75 caches and enjoyed some beautiful scenery. A wonderful trail the likes of which we don't have in Western Australia.
Thanks for setting up these caches.
Thanks for setting up these caches.
Lovely Sunday morning with an hour or so to spare. Grabbed these few on the section that I had previously missed along the trail. Again thanks for this set of great caches that vary in size shape and challenge.
Found with J+J.au and Wilbert67 as we made our mark on the caches in this area. This was a great excuse to get on the bikes and enjoy this well configured series. Over the four day weekend we found some great caches showing us some fantastic locations and others challenging our geocaching skills. Thanks to all the cache owners for the obvious effort injected into this series and thanks to my off-siders for the company. SL.. TFTC
Enjoying 4 days of caching out this way with Baja15 and Wilbert, we have had this HCRT trail in mind to do. out of the series we DNF 1 and found all the rest except the the disabled caches.
I enjoyed the variety of hides and the themes on some were a bit spooky, the views along the way is beautiful.
This is a very well put together series, highly recommend. TFTC

we attempted to finish the trail today we took two cars and broke the trail down in sections to break up some walking but unfortunately it was getting dark and the rain scared us away but we had a good adventure with plenty of good hides some easy some tricky and plenty of good views of the weir and surrounding areas. With every cache we attempted we found although one could not be logged as there was no way I was going to retrieve it im not one for heights and creepy crawlies but anyway thanks to the trail crew we had a very good day.

Hot day today, great enjoyed on the trail easy one along to end in the line series... Easy to find as very well hide thanks
Day five of our post Christmas / pre New Year trip... taking our new tent trailer for a test run, weather was very hot and humid. Our travels are taking us up to Ettamogah and across to Old Tallangatta before returning home.
Visiting many towns along the way, taking the Geo wife to places she has never been before, and giving our Geo Pug time to sniff out new territories
Did not expect to be seeing constant temps in the high 30's to low 40's... Geo wife got to see her first live black snake on the road in Australia, and I almost stood on a 5 foot brown snake at one cache on the HCRT, and a red back spider at another.
Stayed at some nice FREE camp sites along the way and a couple of caravan parks as well, learned a lot of things along the way, history and more, but in all a great adventure and we were able to clock up our 1000th find along the way ..
thanks to the CO for this cache

I mentioned to some Caching friends my love of caching on my pushbike and asked if they knew of any good trails as I would be without my kids for a week between Christmas and New Year. Code1 put me onto the HCRT and a quick look and the trip was planned. I checked the internet and it seemed camping was available at Ebden reserve right on the trail. When I arrived this was not so! (don’t believe everything you see on the internet!) So I had to settle for a paid campsite at the Boathaven Caravan Park just up the road. After setting up the tent by 7pm on the 27th Dec I got on the bike and decided to get a few nearby. The first one I found was disabled and I soon realised why when I found only the lid of the container! I had better luck from then on. I did 8 on the 27th , followed by about 50 on the 28th (25k out and 25k back in mid 30’s heat nearly killed me!), and the remainder on the 29th. I found nearly all of them but for a few DNF’s that I may come back for one day.
Thanks to the Trail Crew for all the work that goes into setting up a trail like this …… loved it and will recommend it to all cachers.

As we needed some time and bugs to kill while the house got fumigated, we went for a drive down the HCRT. After finding a place to pull off the road, we made the short walk to the cache. Little Miss T made the find and then we were on our way again. Thanks for the cache Trail Crew.
Found 11:19:00 AM, during day one of our assault on the HCRT series, during which we made a round trip (starting and finishing at Old Tallangatta) of about 47km by bike, found 60 caches and saw one snake

We had enjoyed our walk along the trail from Old Tallengatta and Tallengatta so much that we decided to make a start on the leg from Tallangatta to Wodonga. Shanks pony was fed and well rested so we were able to make a sizeable impression on this section. Congratulations The Trail Crew for an outstanding series that we will definitely recommend to other cachers. We will endeavour to finish this series either before we leave this trip or on our next visit.
A quick survey of the objects near GZ and a likely hiding spot was seen. Closer inspection revealed the cache. The contents of the cache were in good condition.

Had a great day riding along most of this trail with Lachdog15. Started off very quiet in the morning, but towards the afternoon got a bit busier! Really loved this trail, a lot of effort went into this, and we will soon be back to complete the rest, in a fortnight or so. Thanks heaps!

I had an awesome time doing this trail. If there is a physical challenge involved in a cache I think I enjoy it even more, so after being invited down to the event I had a look around and found this trail. As it turned out, I ended up doing it on my own and as such wouldn't have a lift back at the other end. Oh well, I can always ride back.
So after picking up a few of the caches before the event on Saturday to get the lay of the land and to minimise the kilometres for the following day I started out the second day's journey at "Come on in, the cows don't bite". Cache after cache I cycled on, knowing with each turn of the pedals it would be another back. Only two DNFs along the way and I was expecting one of them made for an excellent run of numbers, plus I really enjoyed the variety of hides.
I did curse a few of the "micro without a hint" caches since I was there for a good time, not a long time . Muggles were a bit of an issue at times, especially on Sandy Creek Bridge, where there was a crowd of them an the Tallagnatta end. I had to wait them out for at least 5 minutes before getting on my way.
One of the creatures I came across sure scared the crap out of me, but the rest were pretty benign and my heart was fairly thumping when I had to climb out on a precarious, no longer maintained (I hope this bolts aren't too rusty) protrusion.
At about the 20km mark I was starting to tire and wished there were fewer caches (shock!!). But a quick lunch and another DNF in Tallangatta had me refreshed for the final push. I even added a km by cycling out to the next cache after "the end of the line". 6.25 hours for the outbound journey.
The return trip was done with only 3 rest stops and 2 stops to survey a couple of my outbound DNFs, which I had consulted the Trail Crew on during lunch. Both remained DNFs and could do with checking on. When I had started on the section close to the main road, I got sick of the rolling resistance of the gravel path and traded in some slight uphills for the smoothness of the main road. Two hours and 5 minutes after setting off from Old Tallangatta I was back at the car with a very sore bum and very tired legs and 79.5km on the odometer. Ready for the 3.5 hour drive home.
Thanks to The Trail Crew for the effort in laying and maintaining this series (not to mention the expense). Keep up the good work!

Weekend trip to Albury / Wodonga to ride the HCRT series from Canberra, started from the old Tallangatta with Tankengine and Bewilderbeest. Started about 8:00 and finished around 2:00pm, which included a couple of stops, it was a perfect day for cycling not too warm the coordinates where all spot on, and a great variety of finds and places, which kept it interesting but the other bonus was the nice cycling track. so highly recommended.
