Got close to GZ, even took a few steps in but it went almost up to the leg of my short shorts... back to the van to clean off under the dog watering container...
got within 13 m but not smelling good and not prepared to get wet so left this one for braver souls.
Decided that since I had an extra day off work I would come up to Gisborne and visit family as I was in the Hawkes Bay for work and it wasnt too far to travel the extra distance and it also gave me the chance to pick up a few caches in this lovely community.
After a DNF on GC5Y5VD - Elgin Bridge Gizzy, I decided that I would go and check this cache out, I managed to find a nice parking spot and then I decided that I would check this cache out and see what it was all about. As I arrived near GZ I decided that I would go and see if I could get near the cache without getting too mucky, as I walked around the lake I soon got within 15 metres of GZ and I started to head towards GZ thinking to myself is this going to be solid, liquid or gas[xx(].
Well as I started to venture closer to GZ, with 10 metres the ground started to turn from solid to liquid , well what to do, since I was not properly prepared for this venture I decided that it was time to make a quick retreat, by that stage I was nearly up to my waist in a interesting liquid.
I decided that since I was not quite equipped for this venture I would turn around and would look a coming back another time when I have the correct gear on, so it wasnt really a true DNF this time.

After having a good day caching decided to look at this one. Even though spring is only just here Rubbishparty number 1 donned his togs and waded in! Fortunately he found it and was very pleased (although a bit smelly!). TFTC
Physically I am filthy, mentally I am great. That was super fun and also totally disgusting. Tftc!
Decided on a bit of a road trip to Gisborne area as we are targeting higher D rated caches for one of our challenges and this area seemed to qualify. Picked up the Squirrel at 6am with a list of about 26 caches. We didn't expect to have so many DNF's and with so many caches needing repairs, hopefully the owners might do some checking and repairing. Anyway after what turned into a very long day with rain, slippery tracks and wading through nearly waist deep water we arrived safely home the next morning at 3.15am.
6.55pm - Able to drive within 10 metres of this one then the fum began, found cache on ground and placed a little higher up. Now wet boots for the rest of the trip. SLTFTC

With Gap (of Fap and Gap)... Our target today was to find caches with difficulty ratings of 2.5 and greater. Gap spied a whole lot in the Gisborne region... Road trip. It rained on and off throughout the day, making conditions slippery underfoot and slow-going at times. Weather coupled with quite a few DNFs made this a bit of a disappointing mission. Nevertheless, we soldiered on, as we do...
It was a stroke of genius to drive within 30 metres of the cache... The hardest part came thereafter. The ground looked deceptively stable. But beneath the plant litter, the water was easily knee-deep to waist-deep in places. By the time I waded out (of the car), Gap was already well on the way out there... I was going to leave a TB. But that would be too cruel. TFTC.

Attempt no.2 we came better prepared! Found a 'path' we thought we could use but 2 steps in and nope. In the water. Was a very entertaining cache once we waded across however the cache was clearly not in its original spot (will attach a pic to cache owner). A great cache if you bring spare clothes, so maybe a higher terrain rating
Wasn't keen on doing this one without a paddle board/gumboots. Looks like the logbook is too wet to sign as well. We got close, but decided it wasn't worth it :/
Didn't even get to have a look because my sneakers were saturated before I'd even walked 2 metres towards the cache. Can you please up the terrain on this, because getting wet and muddy, swimming etc is not a 1.5. Will maybe come back with gumboots and a boogie board.
got too the edge of the lake did one complete lap of the lake to find and easier way but no, thought I would try the raupo way but would end up getting my shoes and socks wet so back around to the street side looking for a closer gap too paddle across yeah rite,so off with the shoes and socks and in we go how deep was it going to be ,should have worn shorts oh well roll the trousers up some more and away we go and goodness me the perfume is quite different, get to the other side yay find the cache BUT unable too sign as log was wet.

the smell, well you had to be there, the feeling of feet slowly sinking into... into.. i don't know what. but with some branches and a boggy board i made it across, gem laughing on the bank at this middle aged man trying not to get to wet or smelly. filled out the log (was a little wet as well)dropped of a mosquito TB, and back across to gem, tried to give her a hug, no luck there, dried off changed clothes back in car, home, shower, now i get a hug. thank you sooooooo much for this cache was a real experience.
As I began to walk the grass began to sink, then the smell came and wow! Got out of the water but couldnt bring myself to leave the cache unfound, so i pulled up my shorts and made my way through the stench.. quick find when through the crap, really was suprised I was let back in the car..good laugh though.. also dont try and run across quick it will end badly...
Wow, the most (physical) effort required so far but all trials dissolve when you find it. Awesome fun though!
Found with lots of help from SiLiRy. Thanks Ry. Glad we didn't wet. Cool day with showers. Coffee and hot Chips at Captian Morgans after was a must.
This cache was a little bit mission impossible so we brought in some technical help from Girvan. After lengthy discussions on a plan of attack we just decided to throw Ry and an inner tube in the deep end and just hope that he wouldn't smell too bad on the trip home. Lucky for Ry (and all of us) there were no tactical errors or friendly fire and Ry soon had the cache in hand. TFTC cheers SiLiRy
I made an attempt to get to the cache tonight.
I got in the water up to my knees, but I couldn't bring myself to go any further into the deeper looking and disgusting smelling water.
Afterwards I went down to the beach and walked into the sea to wash the foul stench from my legs.
Thanks.

Had a look at this one but will have to put this one on the DO list the Terrain is more like 2.5
We arrived and viewed the location of the cache. We had been prepared to get slightly wet, but not that much. This cache is definitely not terrain 1.5.
after a fair bit of hesitation i (dad) got over there and found it. ps watch out for the shark! TFTC
For tadpole read eels, and lots of them. TFTC

Got a blip cache going online, and tried on my way back home, but have to say Terrain is definitely underrated, will have to come with my togs
