Hiking the Mount Somers track with our family of 6. Good times, amazing scenery, great experience!Yep, nice one here, tftc!
Woah. Just got back from a night on Mt Somers. I was heading out for my first solo overnight hike and decided to do the Pinnacles hut from Sharplin Falls Carpark because the Woolshed Creek Hit was booked out. Man thats a walk! After staying the night we decided to go the extra distance over to Woolshed Creek Carpark to save having to repeat the walk back down to Sharplin Falls. I dont have reception in most places but did manage to get this geocache. Thanks for placing it here!
Found it on the way back to the car park. Cache was very wet and we were unable to sign the book as it was soaked. Beautiful morning!
Finally getting around to logging caches i found back in 2020. I changed phones and have only just reinstalled geocaching to find 35 old caches that are to be logged. Thanks for showing me different parts of NZ.
I'm the owner of sir eddy the knight. pleas pic me up and send me at home... Thanks

So a total of 8 of us went on the hike to stay at Pinnacles Hut today. Started out quite late, arrived at the carpark to find 24 (!) cars already there. Schaisse, looked like the hut's gonna be crammed to the ceiling! The sun had just set when we found this cache and it was getting dark FAST. Not too far from the moment of truth, to see how full the hut is. Turned out to be a lot of room there!
The rocks here are very nice for some really easy bouldering practice.

Couldn't see the Pinnacles today the cloud was too low but had great views from the hut the next morning. Thanks dsenior

Happy to have found this. Always a bit apprehensive when the hint talks about bushes and rocks as there were so many around. Fortunately the GPS was close and the cache only 2-3 metres from the main track. TFTC
So glad to see the hut! A bit of a grind for those of us in sedentary jobs, but we got there. Had a bit of fun clambering around on the rocks - *after* signing the log of course. The log is in good shape, no sign of the nappy TwoSharpe found.

Coming in here was Rincewind3 and Bo&bronnie's idea! I'd read about it before and thought I'd never get to this hut as the track sounded a bit beyond me. It turns out I could get there but it was only just! I'd lost my sense of humour just prior to this cache, but felt a bit happier with the hut in sight.
All well here. Last couple of times here has been on the Mt Somers race so no time to stop. Nice to pop in this time on a tramp with the kids and mop up the cache. Unfortunately some dirty parent had left a nappy right by the cache, scumbags. Didn't have room in our packs to take it out
Out tramping the Mount Somers Track. Took a while to find this one but got there in the end, tftc
Yay I came here about 3 years ago and hunted for ages but I guess it had been muggled at the time. So pleased to find it today easily! TFTC
Together with Fenz i had the pleasure to visit New Zealand. We were traveling around for quite some time and thought: Why not combine that with some geocaching! That doubled the fun and we found a lot nice places we wouldnt have, if we werent looking for the boxes invisible to the other tourists. For details on our cache finds see the logs of Fenz. We want to thank all the owners for their effort, the nice hides and the fun we had on our journey! Definitely gonna come back to you Kiwis, greetings from the other end of the world, keep it on!
AntiTerrorist and I went hiking at Mt. Somers and found a few caches.Nice view right under the clouds.Tftc
Found on the way for lunch at the Pinnacles Hut with the Geraldine Tramping Club.
Walking in to Pinnacles hut for a over night and picked this one on the way. Easy find. Wet cool day.
A nice straight forward find as I was passing on a round the mountain tramp, clockwise. There was about 4" of snow on the ground as I came over the top from the Woolshed creek hut this morning, but as I found out later the weather was a whole lot better than in town.
Cheers and thanks,
S.t.

Went out hiking for the long weekend - getting a bit big at 18 weeks, and unable to carry a normal tramping bag, so decided to go for an easier walk with hubby carrying his tramping bag with all our cooking gear, and me only carrying a small 30L pack.
Met up with mum here too, and celebrated her birthday along the walk! - They did it from the other end.
Second cache of day two. Was nice to get away from that cramped hut where there was an old man hogging an entire bunkroom to himself and his family, and couldn't even spare a spot inside the hut for an obviously pregnant lady... geez... That's the last time I'm going to a serviced hut on a long weekend, even though the entire whanau was saying we had to do an easy walk, as I had to take it easy, I still managed to cane the doc times, and did the loop in about half the time posted!! So back to the real backcountry for me next time!!
Took a bit to find the cache - turns out I'd walked past it already, and then hubby spied it!!

being waiting for this to be replaced for a while so thanks for that. the last time I was up here we came up in a helicopter and actually landed just above GZ then walked back down doing some track clearing work . today no chopper so made the slog up to Gz in 1h 30 only had to look in a couple of places before finding cache cheers
The missing cache has been replaced by Katie W and can now be found. The hint has been updated.
On a day tramp with our group of older trampers to the Pinnacles hut while staying for a week at Mt Somers. A stinking hot day, and still recovering from recent flu, I found the going particularly tough despite energy gel shotz, so decided to stop here for my lunch as my legs were getting a bit wobbly.
A hunt about in the scrub where it looked like millions had been before me, failed to turn up any vestige of the original cache, so decided on the spur of the moment to replace it with one I had been carrying about with me.
I have waited until my replacement was found by another cacher before logging as a find..
Fantastic scenic spot, perfect for lunch and a caching opportunity. If I make it here again, this will NOT be another day trip!

I am hoping to check this cache on Saturday 22 January 2016. If I can not find it I will replace it.
This would be one of the closest walks to home where we could stay over night in a hut.
Is there any chance this cache could be checked up on at some stage.
I would love to do this walk with my boys early next year.

I am sure it is still there as it is unlikely to have been vandalized in a remote location. A kea perhaps could have broken in to it. Hopefully in January I will check on it and if I can not find it I will replace it.
Couldn't find this one. The weather was very bad and we didn't spent to much time searching, rather proceeding quickly to Pinnacles Hut.
No luck this time looked for about 20 min had to carry on to the car park as we were running out of day light
I searched for about 20 minutes on the way up and 10 minutes on the way down but no sign of a cache.
Stand on the rock and enjoy the nice view !
Very easy to find, may be why it became difficult...

Had a look for 5 mins or so but didn't have any luck, we could see the hut and were hanging out for a cuppa so headed on. will leave for next time.
A team effort was required to find this one. Old Boots! and friend on a 2 day tramp in the area staying overnight at the Pinnacles Hut. TFTC
Seems ridders76 is proud of having done the return trip to Pinnacles Hut in 4 hours ... that's nothing! I did it in 12, and I only made it to this cache, not even the hut!
Explanation: Short, overweight, unfit, leg was cramping, too much crap in my backpack, lots of photo stops.
The actual vantage point involves an off-the-trail scrambled up a slope, which was worth it. Stunning views! Clear blue sky, 32°.
Also, I lost my Fisher Space Pen on this track … it may be at this cache or somewhere between the overhanging waterfall and this cache. If you find it, you can keep it or at least carry it out. Thx.

Dry climb up with just the lightest of drizzle but a light rain all the ay back to the carpark me=ant soaking by the time back at the carpark. 2 hours from carpark to Pinnicles hut. 4 Hours in total and that included reading a magazine at the hut. No views.
