My first unloved cache find. I decided to get off the couch and go for a short 5km hike in the beautiful hills of Tremont. A family of muggles passed and asked if I was alright. Nothing to worry about! The cache was found with some difficulty, requiring a climb up a steep slope. The lid does not seal properly but the contents were dry and in good condition. Thank you for placing ahomberg!
I had to wait for a family to walk past before heading up the hill. Luckily, I spotted some red parrots not far away, and they were easily worth the 5-minute distraction. The cache was found without any issues after making my way to the top of that fallen tree. Thanks for the fun hide!
this was a bit of a steep climb but the first 3T one ive done! i feel so accomplished also, the seal of the container is broken and the contents might get wet
This morning's plan was to go geocaching in the 1000 steps area. The main 3 geocaches I wanted was the 2 DT challenges that I am getting closer to completing and the final of the "I Went geocaching and all I got was" final. I was also aiming to halve the number of caches that I needed for my next milestone planned for the Mega. Lovely early morning certainly helped with this plan and no DNFs.
Took too long to find this one as I went up to high, walking/climbing right past it. But got there in the end.
This container has no clips anymore, but considering this, the log book is in good condition.
Thanks for the cache A Homburg

On a bit of a hike with my partner, I figured we'd go somewhere I hadn't claimed finds for the caches yet. We passes this way many times during covid, but I wasn't finding caches in that period, like many other geocachers.
My GPS brought me up too far, until it decided the cache was 20m back down the hill. The hint hadn't helped me at all. So back down I went. Thankfully found it, near the top of a long fallen log pointing downhill.
My partner watched my antics from the path.

Definitely a steep scramble avoiding local wildlife. Nice and dry despite no lid locks. Well hidden to the untrained eye, obvious to the trained! TFTC
Has to wait for runners to pass by before I could return to the trail, totally oblivious to my presence . TFTC
After some finds nearby, I decided to search out a few more in this extensive series on the MTB.
This was a serious climb, and even after approaching GZ, the hard work wasn't over. Scrambling up from the track, I was initially too far across, and had to back-track a little to find the correct match for the hint. It's hard to appear nonchalant to muggles passing below while slipping and sliding on a steep slope in bike shoes, but fortunately the coast was clear when it came time to retrieve the container.
Gravity had resulted in the cache being located a little further down than the hint suggested, and under a large piece of vegetable camo rather than tucked by the mineral as expected.
The nice dry log (despite the missing lid clip) signed, I replaced the container as per the hint, but reused the camo it had been under to help keep it in place.
TFTC ahomburg, and this series that simultaneously challenges my fitness and delights the senses in this beautiful area

Was in two minds as to whether or not I should go for this one given the rain today, but aim glad I did !
The climb off the trail was steeper and much scarier than I first thought, but it was a great view.
Awesome little hide, I clambered around up the steep slope, and finally came upon the prize.

Continuing on from #37, it was all uphill, then up a steep incline before the search could commence. Steve’s GPS sent him one way, mine naturally sent me further up the hill. I soon noticed the little darling peeking from its hiding spot.
Thanks for the good workout this morning ahomburg.

Wasn’t that fun! Cross country from the last for a wee micro adventure and a bingo bango moment. Love a climb and following - or trying to follow animal tracks. Anyway, a fun day out just beyond the burbs and lucky for me within the 15 km allowed and so along with a few other missions here I am. This was not exactly on my radar but it’s too close to ignore! Either way, it’s refreshing to be exploring the Dandenongs and wandering in the bush to make the find. In Melbs on carers duty again, so glad to to be here before the joe blakes get too active. Coordinates were good and this country gal was very happy. Fave for getting me here TFTC AND THE FUN.
A lovely place to come to while exploring the edges of my five kilometre zone. An easy and straightforward find here. TFTC
And I thought the last one was steep! This one feels like a cliff face! Good walk in and great views back to the city from here on my Sunday walk in the Dandenongs. The cache is missing a clip on the lid and has a tendency to open and fall down the slope. Be careful.
Another weekend walk (sorry, meander) in the Dandenongs with a muggle friend, this one was on a long path to the top of One Tree Hill that I was keen to do. GZ too a bit of effort to reach (the direct route is not the best nor easiest one) but I was glad to find it safely in-situ, although one of lid clips has parted ways at some stage - the contents are dry and all is well though.
I think I might have written 7/3/21 in the log book as I'm having a few issues getting the day/date set correctly on my watch...

up on the way to this treasure, i passed a motley school group
about seventy kids in bunches of four and five
packs piled high with saucepans and foam mattresses and jumbo sleeping bags
they walked on and pretended not to see the guy huffing and puffing his way up the hill
the camouflage skills were put to good use while searching for the treasure
the carnival of schoolkids continued below on the path
they walked on and pretended not to see the guy huffing and puffing and perched behind a small spiky bush hoping that no one would bother to look up the slope

It has been a couple of weeks since I last had the opportunity to venture out caching. Today there was a lull in the Christmas preparations so we decided that we would spend an hour or so walking and caching.
As with #33 I approached this cache from a higher 'T' rating than was required...MUCH higher. The GPSr didn't settle very quickly so it took a while and some 'mountain goating' to find the cache. I dropped off a pathtag for the next brave soul that ventures here. TFTC.

Bit higher then I thought it would be! steep climb! not so much a stump but more a fallen tree!
A downhill ride but an uphill climb, hint needs updating, dead tree is now a stump.

As always the geokid found the easiest route up. I should make a mental note to follow him next time. Cache was quickly found.
Tftc- supper cool wrapped tree stump/ gnarled dead tree that’s nearby to the cache.
After walking up Boulevard Trk, I was talking on the phone and missed the sign directing me to this cache. When I arrived at the next intersection, I finished the call and was able to use the phone to pinpoint GZ. An easy walk back down the trail had the mission completed.
Thanks Mr Homburg. Another enjoyable walk.

After completing DM#37, I pondered whether to keep going up the hill to get this one... and I was pleased I did, because it wasn't as far as I thought and took me on a lovely walk through the forest. (I felt really spoilt for choice when deciding where to go caching/walking in the Dandenong Ranges today, as there are so many paths with caches on them to choose from.) Upon arrival, I identified the best place to scramble off the path and headed past a few possible locations, before arriving at the final. No dramas and all is in good condition. TFTC
Not found for 4 months because it is a bit off the track and a bit of a scramble. I liked it. Tftc
Getting to the GZ was a challenge for me.
I'm not the most sure footed person around.
But I got there.

This was a bit of a climb that I was not planning for. There was no way I was going to come back. So I sucked it up in my work shoe and up I we. Great views all around here. Thanks for placing. I am slowly getting the D.M. Series done
A loop walk and a maintenance check today

Was looking around for a while and found as I was about to give up. TFTC
Final find for the night, and this had it all. Muggle jogger whizzed past, saw a dead snake by the path and had to convince son not to play with it. Obligatory wallaby sighting. And dad managed to take some bark offf (spoiler alert!!)
TFTC and the adventure.
TFTC and the adventure.
Had to wander past a muggle having a rest right near GZ and pretend we were enjoying a hike. Nothing to see here. Thankfully didn’t have to wait long for him to get back on his bike. Would’ve been annoying to climb the hill and not be able to get the smiley satisfaction. TFTC.
Like the last time I was chasing down a DM cache, I was on my over to Puffing Billy to be the Belgrave Signalman. I parked at the end of Olivebank Road like I did last time but today set off in the opposite direction. I has a choice of three caches, each down a different track, so went for this one as it was the furthest from my car. Due to a "good Christmas", I was still quite "unfit" and made hard work getting up the track. Chasing these caches all over the side of the Dandenongs should fix that... if it doesn't kill me first!
Thanks ahomburg for the cache and the DM series.

Had my GPS in my pocket so I accidentally overshot this one by a couple hundred metres. Whoops! However, after a quick back track and short scramble up the steep hill the cache was mine. TFTC
I reckon I almost died getting this one in the dark and wet! Very tricky, tftc
Found it after a bit of a search. Was about to give up when I found it on my last attempt.

We got the chance to walk around the Dandenongs on a Friday afternoon, great to have some caches to do to make it more interesting. So much nicer here than around the busy 1000 steps, funny how so many don't make the effort to walk the other trails. tftc ahomburg
Found it! Mark went out today to try and increase his fitness and reduce his waistline by actually doing some of this series the way they were intended, on foot! Must say they are far more difficult (but strangely more satisfying) than the usual way he does them by being chauffeured around in a fire truck. Was going to bypass this one as the planned route was to return via The Boulevard but seeing as how the walk up was so easy (ha!) thought 'why not? its only 300m away'. Arrived at the GZ only to find nothing that could be used as a hide so resorted to the hint that still didn't match anything. Did expanding mountain goat circles and basically checked everything in sight before finally spotting the corner of the cache under a piece of burnt wood. Might need to take the CO on a tour of the valley to clarify 'tree' & 'sapling' definitions...
Muggles were far less of an issue at this one, even though a few wandered past of the track below they probably thought Mark was some sort of deranged climber and moved on pretty quickly...TFTC...

Found while walking up and down tracks in the Dandenongs, looking for DM caches and other ones nearby. Great sunny day for a walk in these lovely hills.
#352 - 12.40pm
It was fairly steep here. A Juliet-like gradient greeted me.
But my GPS was drunk again!
It had me mountain goating my way back and forth across the slope to half a dozen different locations. There was a silver lining though. At one of these wrong spots I got my first echindna sighting. Rex wasn't too troubled by my presence and I got some great footage.
Thanks ahomburg. I'm really enjoying the DM series. It's taking me back to trails I used to trek by moonlight when I was young and stupid. Twenty years later and now I'm just not so young... lol!!
All is well with the cache.

This one had us stumped for a while.
GPS took me further up the hill than I needed to go.
Must have walked straight past it.
Only on the way back (after basically giving up) there it was. Dohhh.
Thanks ahomburg.

Out on a another afternoon mission for project 10k. This is the 2nd last in the southern sector of the DM zone to find. With the bulk remaining in the northern sector which needs some serious attention... Surprisingly had 2 muggles passed by, but my refined ninja skills were successful in avoiding detection "Be the rock...., don't move a muscle" This is what I thought while laying beside a fallen log in the grass. Success!!! [^]
Another peaceful spot, thanks for bringing me here today.

This one was a bit of fun. This is the sort of cache I've been skipping for many months for fear of slipping and exacerbating hand injuries, but it seemed doable today. I still deliberated re the safest route and punted on the wrong location first time around, but I hopped across to the right location eventually. Decent views from here. Thanks ahomburg!
There was no way that I was going to waste such a gorgeous late-Autumn day, so the girls and I went "treasure hunting". I don't think any of us realised that we would end up walking 10km and not much flat ground! This one proved elusive, as my gps kept bouncing me from place to place, with no success. Thank goodness I left the girls back on the trail! I shall try again another day.

After a rather inactive week, I decided it was time to get out to stretch the legs and tackle a few more DMs.
A lovely spot to capture a few shots of the setting sun and the city in the background. Cheers!

5:16 PM #1860 Today was about getting out and having a decent walk out in the fresh air with OzHockeyChick after the crazy last few weeks of work and the theme seemed to be similar in this area and that was up the hill off the main track
This was another beauty

I didn't fancy going for this one, standing on the track and seeing where the gps was pointing to. But I'm not one to give up and made it, and saw the telltale sign of a cache. Now I have to go back down...
Out on my own today and set out to walk in one of my favourite spots, the Dandenongs. This is my second attempt on this one. Having just done the Eleven Drummer cache near by I thought I would attack this on by a short cut straight down. Took a couple of slides but saved the big walk around. This time was no problem in finding it. Must admit to resorting to the clue. Now the final drop down.
Thanks for the challenge ahomburg

Continuing along the track, I enjoyed the walk along the Feather Track. I did pass one other soul as I made my way along, but GZ was unsurprisingly quiet. It was very peaceful and the solitude of the walk was enjoyable. A bit of a scramble and I was soon adding my name to the log.
Thanks for the cache.
Thanks for the cache.
At first we over shot this one as we were too busy chatting. Double backed to find GZ and were excited for the challenge especially with the added difficulty of rain. A slippery climb and mountain goat style criss-crossing as the GPS jumped around.
Rain coat hoods made it difficult to hear our shouts of:
Loz6032 "where is yours pointing to now?"
tripze "directly towards you, right where you are. where's yours?"
Loz6032 "directly towards you! nope, now over here"
tripze tried the adventure-all-over technique and nearly fell down a wombat hole, I was much more worried about tumbling down the hill so applied a more logical technique. The find ended up being half way between us in a spot we had both overlooked!
Quickly signed the log and scrambled down just as a large group of muggles walked by and the rain stopped. Surprisingly neither of us took a tumble - this was a fun find.
Find #8 for Team JELS

Sun. Rain. Mid winter. Totally over thought this one. GPS sent us in circles which made me chase my tail.
Loz6032 put logic before my adventurous spirit and found GZ!
Now that we are nice and wet.....onwards!

I, like many others before me, thought I had this one found a lot sooner than I did. Whilst it didn't actually take that long, I was traversing the same geotrail that other finders have slipped and tripped on. Thank goodness for upright trees! TFTC, the cache is in good condition.
Daughter at play date in Monbulk so took master 10 with us to do some caching.Perfect weather for walking and caching.. Sun out slight breeze...
This one had us in giggles and just as well we walked past some muggles before we got to the GZ, would of had to explain ourselves otherwise, as we slipped and slide up the hill... went to nearly every dead tree we could find and had to use hint as gps all over place, but soon had it in our hands... Log signed nothing taken.

Abby and I decided this cold and rainy Sunday would be the perfect day for a hike in the Dandenongs - the aim, to spot a fox, and find 6+ caches. We succeeded in the former - however this was just our second and final find before the rain got so heavy that we had to admit defeat and beat a sodden retreat out of there.
This was a fun one! Like another log below, we actually approached this one from the top of the hill. While scrambling around looking for a cache a trio of muggles wandered by on the track below. One - a little girl - spied us up the hill and alerted her fellow travellers. Next, they were all looking concernedly up at us while we waved back and tried to look natural. After assuring them that we were OK, they moved on and we were able to retrieve this relatively exposed cache. Log signed, TNLN, TFTC!

Another work trip, another caching day. You know the more I visit this part of the world the more I adore it.....is that just because I end up having so much fun here? Maybe. Like the other DM wanders the trails are all good and there is usually limited requirement to get off them. Unless of course you are prone to making things harder for yourself...and really....I'm an Irish red-head so that sort of goes without saying.
Having totally ignored the GPS I spied a formation up the hill and thought "That's it" so up the hill I headed only to realise I was still actually 100m away. So instead of going down and along the trail I proceeded to traverse along the terrain line instead which is certainly very steep! Eventually I got there and made the find and possibly only slipped about 17 times in the process. [:o)]

Once again the other group of geocachers were at GZ retrieving the cache as we arrived.

Found this evening on a night mountain bike loop. When I arrived at GZ on the path, a wallaby was looking down at me from quite a height, turns out after quite a scramble and climb he was practically on the cache. TFTC, another DM series found.
I took a short cut through the bush to get onto this higher trail. Found the cache quickly as it was exposed a little. Now for the summit. TFTC.
