I approached from the uphill side, and what a steep climb it was. Glad to find this quickly and have some time to catch my breath. Both log sheets where water damaged beyond repair. Tipped the water out and put in a replacement log in ziploc. Good to go for the next finder.

Cache 6/11 with fisherfamfive and AdamW on our first caching trip of the new year. I recall making a joke to Cooper and Adam about the irony of this cache's name, as we trudged up the long path towards GZ. Once the GPS told us we were nearby, we very quickly spotted a location matching the hint's description, and then had the nicely hidden cache in hand. TFTC ahomburg

Out today with CammJT and AdamWickenton for our first caching trip of the new year on the bikes in the northern part of the Dandenong Ranges National Park. After locking up the bikes at the base of the hill we were required to climb to get to the cache, we started to make our way up. After a fair bit of uphill riding and walking, the calves were screaming by the time we made our way to GZ. Luckily for us we weren't required to be there for too long, as the cache was quickly found.Tftc ahomburg

I was psyching myself up for a freestyle bushbash but was plesently surprised to find a path.. a few slips along the way .then wondered if i chose the right path at the diversion.. but it all turned out well, and the cache was found and signed.

On our way to this cache we had our hearts jump out of our chests when a little wallaby hopped out from the shrubs just at our feet this cache container was wet, filled with water but the log is dry. TFTC

Great spot. Cache had some water in it so emptied out. TFTC

21-Oct-22
I finished my work nearby earlier than expected on this humid day, so had some caching time before bus driving duty called.
Well the cache title wasn't appropriate for my approach.
A good workout for the quads climbing up to this one.
Container was a little wet inside as the lid seal is deteriorating, but the new replacement log is in fine shape.

Hi there, I found the cache but the logbook is way too wet and mouldy to sign. Have dropped off replacement log. Cheers

Well it’s 1 January 2022. And don’t even ask me what I’m doing out in this 36°C heat looking for geocaches in the Dandenong’s. This is what we do don’t we?
Almost missed the treasure as I found the hiding place but there was nothing there .
I roamed around a little bit more and went back to the same place only to find it out in the open about a metre away. Put back in its hidey hole and camouflaged

I am very grateful to be able to include a small section of the Dandenongs for daily exercise within my local zone. Having only just moved to the area there are plenty of caches for me to find and I feel ok about pausing to make a find if I am walking through the area anyway.

I had DNF'd this one a while back while visiting the area and being unable to find the cache in what seemed the obvious spot. Coming back through here again the day before this find I had another search all over and again couldn't find it, despite taking into account the useful information in a recent found log. Some messages with that finder gave me the confidence for a third try and I finally found it.

It seems I had been looking in what to me was the obvious spot, but that was a different obvious spot to the spot that was the obvious spot to the other cacher. I had checked my version of the obvious spot on each of the previous visits but it seems had not checked properly - probably a case of having a preconceived ideas of what I was expecting to see and having a form of cache blindness when the shape, size, colour and exact placement of the actual cache didn't align with my mental image.

It feels good to have this one ticked off. TFTC Smile

Found it!!

01-Aug-21
We reached the point where we needed to veer off the nice flat track, not downhill as the cache name suggests, but up a steep hill. Again I took the lazy way out and stayed on the track, while Steve made the solo journey. I’m feeling sore and a bit sorry for myself with back problems at the moment, but still wanted to have a walk in these beautiful surroundings.

As I sat and waited, I read the logs and noticed the last couple of cachers logged a DNF. I gave Steve a ring to warn him not to be disappointed if the cache couldn’t be found, then received a text a little later advising he had found it. Apparently not in the obvious location, but a little further up in a place that still matched the clue.

Unfortunately the logbook is extremely wet and he hadn’t taken anything with him, except a pen.

Thanks ahomburg. Another one done & dusted.

Pretty obvious spot but no cache there. Looked around a bit but I suspect it is gone.

15-May-21
This geocacher reported that the cache might be missing.

28-Mar-21
Hmmm... So, I found where I think the cache should be, but there was really nothing cache-like in this spot or around it. I suspect it might be missing...

After parking at one tree hill we enjoyed a stroll last week to check out the terrain. Yes this creates a great challenge for the feeling older geo babe and eldest son. Last weeks wetness on the ground now gone, safety was priority as I’m sure geo son would not be impressed if his mum twisted an ankle attempting the bike track down!
Our feet held steady to find this as our first find of the day. The log well hidden and an easy find. All inside was a little damp but ok.Now on to the next one. Thanks for the challenge

Found as part of my 12km caching run through the park. This hill was steep. Too steep to run down on. Quick find here. TFTC

15-Oct-19
Heading down the narrow track, we approached GZ and spent quite some time searching. Using the hint, I checked out all the likely spots, but no success. I narrowed the search down to one possible location, and spent some time perusing the area. The cache was found about a metre away, sitting in the grass. After signing the log, and drying the container, I left it hiding in the place it should have been. Tftc.

Headed out for some bush therapy with an afternoon hike in the woods with Snoopy. We didn't let the rain deter us, although it did makes things a little slippery when ascending some of the hills.
More than 5 years after I started this DM series I am still picking them up, slowly but surely meandering my way around the Dandenong Ranges.

What downhill? Big Grin
We were walking back south to One Tree Hill so this was an uphill. Up and up and up and up... Good hint helped ensure a quick find. Now back up and up and up and up...
Thanks, ahomburg.

On a mission before I leave Melbourne to find a clutch of caches in this little pocket of the forest. Have not been here for donkeys years. Not sure I covered ground in the most efficient way but had grabbed the MT bike and managed most of the hilly country. Nice to be back after a few decades. All caches found quickly enough. TFTC and series. I’ll be back!

6 of 7 for the morning is pretty good. And the other Is almost a drive-by, so we can grab at a later date

By this stage the sun is warming up and our sweat is caking. On the downhill path back toward Tobruk track and dads knees are starting to complain, so we were glad for a quick stop to dry the log out a little.

Thanks AHomburg for an awesome series which we are slowly working through. Soon we will need to brush up our puzzling skills but for now it’s traditionals and hilly tracks.

Out early this morning to grab more of the meander series, the rain held out long enough for me to get what I wanted without getting too wet. As I was meandering I wondered 2 things: 1. If someone blindfolded ahomburg and dropped him into a random spot in the Dandenongs, would he be able to tell you whereabouts he was? I reckon he could. 2. If a bushfire swept through the Dandenongs (god forbid) as has happened before, how long would it take ahomburg to replace all of his caches? I reckon 3 solid days. Thanks again for this series ahomburg, a great excuse to get out of the house into nature Smile TFTC!

I’m not so sure about the name of this cache. “Downhill” you reckon? My lungs beg to differ. I know I said that I was after a bit of a leg-stretch but.....
Luckily, after Kelly and I were reminded that we really need to get more exercise, the cache was a nice easy find and then we got to enjoy the downhill shuffle back to flat ground.

02-Apr-18
Find two for the night with Mrs Rusty from The Rustys. Our climb up the hill reminded us of the lack of fitness we both have seemed to have found over summer or was it the fact that we had eaten too many Easter eggs yesterday? A few stops of the way up to remove layers of clothing and grab out drink bottles eased the steep climb to the cache. We puffed and panted as we signed the logbook and returned it to its hide before we turned around to enjoy the 'downhill' part of the trail. On to the next one!

Walking from another DM cache I had to go up to get this cache not down. This cache was not marked as being on a track but I figured that it would be. Walking on a track around the hill I soon came to the very small, but clear, track that I was expecting. The climb was reasonably steep and although it was not sunny the humidity was high and I still got pretty hot. At Gz I find the cache quickly in an obvious location. Thanks ahomburg

Yep - as Martin pointed out "downhill" all depends on your perspective.... and the perspective of anyone caching with Martin is it's highly unlikely you'll be following the expected order the CO assumes, let alone approaching from the direction they assumed. Oh well.. found, signed and onwards. TFTC!

A nice early walk around the Dandenong Ranges National park with Clint. The weather wasn't too bad considering when we arrived there was heaps of rain and lightning which stopped before we set out.
(thankfully). Interesting name, "downhill" which is all relative to the direction you are coming from. Apart from the wander up the hill the cache was nice and easy.

Found by Team Justice #1607.

Spent the day walking from Ferntree Gully Picnic Group to Olinda as a training hike for Oxfam's trailwalker event. Geocaching Melbourne has four teams entered and there were five members who walked today in a blistering 36 degree temperatures.

The hills around here are BRUTAL! On the return walk back from Olinda, my thighs were cramping up and the heat was only just bearable. I have some much work to do to get ready. TFTC.

If there is ever a spot in the dandenongs where you feel right in the middle of nowhere, GZ hits the spot. This cache has always been on my radar as it is the closest trad from home, however knowing that if there is a trek downhill, inevitably there is a trek up hill soon after, it was always put off from conquering. However after a big Christmas and new year with copious amounts of food and drink, some exercise was in order and this fit the bill. I ran up the steps for the first time this year and then continued to the track closest to GZ. It wasn't until I was within ~180 metres where I located narrow track, otherwise I was thinking that I was up for an actual bush bash with ankles full of leeches. Thankfully this narrow track took me all the way within reach of the cache and it was a quick and isolated find once there. Another cache in the series down - tftc

My third Meander cache (I initially typed 'Meandercore') for the day. This was quintessential Meandercore. LOL. A curious little track that I did indeed follow down the hill. Nice deserted area. A nice sprinkling of rain too. The cache was found in a jiffy. I think this was where I picked up the *edmil and maddie* pathtag from two logs back. Thanks again ahomburg!

Found by edmil and maddie at 12:16. This was our second cache for the day and the first of the 6 Dandenong Meander caches snaffled today over our 2.5 hour meander around the area. Signed log but no swap was made however we left one of our pathtags. TFTC and the series. The Log book was a bit damp but still usable.

Out for a ride exploring the Dandenongs. I had to go off the main track for this one bike and all. I don't recommend doing this. Nice easy find. TFTC

A beautiful day for a meander around the Dandenong Ranges. Having seen the total chaos at the 1000 steps it was lovely to walk around this area away from the maddening crowds. It's amazing to think if ypu walk just a couple of km away from there you effectively have the area to yourself.

The cache is called Downhill but yet I had to go uphill to find it. That track is pretty steep! I was expecting a steep climb at some point but still didn't welcome it when it arrived. The GPS again was a bit all over the place but I soon saw a likely hiding spot and found the nicely concealed cache. The log was a little damp but I was still able to sign it. TFTC!

"Hooray, we found it!" - Ruverbug.
Took the leisurely(?) stroll down from the Tyson track to make this find.

30-Jan-16
The GPS was pointing straight to the cache but the map was way off which made for an interesting time with all of the tracks. I totally missed the track entrance from one of the roads for this cache and did some cross country to get to it. I did find the track close by and used it to get back up. Next time I'll make a printout.

I did opt out of doing the 1000 steps as well as the caching had more than enough hill climbing for me. TFTC

Out hiking around the hills today to escape from the horse race that is going on. A lovely hike up and down the mountain a few times to collect a good series of caches. Other than the 2 DNF's. All were where they should be. Sometimes a bit out on the coords due to the hills but otherwise great. Thanks for the hides.

I was on trip in mountains. It was nice weather and nature is there amazing. There were a lot of colourful birds and lot of any wildlife. I enjoyed it very much. I spent some hours by walking there and hunting some caches. It was very nice day. Thank you very much for very nice cache in beautiful nature.

19-Sep-15
Ok so out on our day on the mountain bikes , OzHockeyChick and I decided to grab a few of the DM series which we are slowly getting our way around and this was the last in this particular area for us so .....in typical Andy style i decided to have a brainwave and make this little cache an easy and quick find.....
Well to say that sounds easy but the hill that the cache was around 200 meters or more up the trail, raises up quite quickly and the track is smaller than a goat width in most places and there are even little rockeries on the track which would look superb in a waterfeature but hang on Andy is pushing his bike up this trail to retrieve the cache.....Why would i even think of the trip back down at this stage.....
Well the sun was shining the birds were whistling and the wind was a slight breeze blowing the smell of gum trees and nature through the air......Very peaceful and relaxing and as i made the climb pushing the bike and gasping oxygen into my becoming fitter lungs i finally made the find of a cheeky hidden cache. Was some dampness to the contents but after a quick clean out and a wipe and a minute or two in the sun the contents were in much better condition.
Well suddenly after signing and replacing the log and cache to it's hidey hole , i looked back and DOWN the mountain to where i had come from and then the horror started to strike me.....DID I REALLY PUSH MY FRIGGING MOUNTAIN BIKE UP THIS TRAIL EXPECTING TO RIDE IT BACK DOWN.....
I must be a lunatic sometimes and so......
I had the handbrakes clutched to full potential and i hopped on the seat on an ungodly downhill facing angle to the point where i thought the bike was going to flip forward....But that's ok because even with the brakes on and my fat ass sitting on the seat the bike started moving.......
HOLY SHEET......i had to release the brakes slightly to let the tyres grip and from up facing down you could hardly see the tiny little track through the long tufts of grass and the surrounding trees and rocks not to mention the momentum building speed that was starting to get out of control.....
Ok so i remember the old skateboard days and to slow down hit the grass....Well i will give you the tip .....on a mountain bike hitting the long grass just leads you to FRIGGIN RABBIT HOLES AND LOGS.......that isn't slow down that is just FRIGGING CRASH TEST DUMMY type stuff....
So i took about 35mins to push my bike up and to get to 50% down i think i clocked the timer at 37 secs........
I soldier on being the thrillseeker i am ( approx 30hrs mountainbike experience) and then hit the rocks that were approx , well exactly 3mm wider than my tyres apart and although the rim fitted through the pedals didn't by a long shot and dead halt occured again at , might i add, approx 60deg angle of decent.
I got to a postition where i had crossed all the dangers and let a few logs drop out the side of my shorts i think when i reached the bottom to meet up with the awaiting OHC ..... Wow 35 mins to get up and almost exactly 1.5 mins to get down .....geeze i'm sure a pro would of done it in 1.49mins Smile
I could only say that was insane but have i got time to do it again lol
Thanks for the insane cache and even more insane idea for me to ride it....

Fairly strenuous uphill climb on this one, and it helped when I found the track.

GPSr took me offline but then as it corrected itself the obvious GZ came into view, and sure enough, so did the cache.

Topped up with some small swaps.

Where this trail head actually is compared to what my GPSr was saying had me stymied for a while but I continued on in the hope of a downhill track and sure enough soon spotted where I needed to head. By early afternoon the day was trying very hard not to rain on me (for which I was very thankful) but every so often a flurry of raindrops would escape. I arrived at GZ just as a reasonable amount of rain was trying to dissuade me from continuing. The container was quite wet but the log was okay in its bag. Unfortunately the precipitation meant I had no chance to dry it out much.

Found this one a few weeks ago and forgot to log it, i forgot to charge my phone on the day because i was playing with my new magellan hand held straight out of the box and just before my phone died I wrote down a few coords to punch into the gps and keep cacheing in. Nice area and the hike was a good workout to. My legs were soar for days after.

Found it. Logged from GZ +1 at 10:03pm. 2nd find for the night on a night mountain bike hunt. GPS had me about 10m off searching further in the bush. Finally looked at the hint and found it in a place I initiallg checked, but had to dig under a whole heap of leaves and mulch. Thanks for the cache. I last mountain biked down here about a year ago and had a big fall, very hard track to descend, so I pushed the bike up it tonight.
