Found this one while out walking with ManfredWolfgang…I wish his interest in all the lovely smells around about included sniffing out caches!

03-Mar-23
Found your cache opted-out user, Thank you so much for placing it.

20-Feb-23
Enjoying riding the ebike along the tracks around Ashburton and doing with some Adventure Labs as well. Found it and thanks flukeywife for placing this multi cache.

19-Jan-23
Found this without the hint, then realised what it meant afterwards.

I have been ever so slowly working on qualifying for [The Non-Traditional Calendar Challenge (GC7RCQ3)](https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC7RCQ3). As someone who is still a puzzle newbie I have been having to resort to trying to find mostly multis to fill in my calendar days.

However, I have fallen in love with multis anyways. I love the little extra challenge of a multi-cache. So I was looking for possible nearby multis when I saw that this one had 20+ favourite points.

However, it wasn't until I arrived at the posted coordinates that I realised the crossword component of this cache. It would have definitely been easier to find the cache If I would have been able to actually fill out the crossword as I went.

Some of the squares were easy to be filled out, however, we weren't sure how to fill out some of the ones that were the same word length. However, with trial and error and a couple of hiccups we were able to eventually get the correct coordinates to GZ.

Today, was a hot one. With 36C heat today, the park was empty, which allowed for a muggle free search. We also just needed to take alot of breaks in the shade to work out the coordinates.

Luckily, once we worked out the coordinates to GZ the cache was quickly found, thanks to the hint!

Thanks for the fun today. This was a great take on the multi cache, a very fun variation. TFTC.

Cache Maintenance Status:

The cache container was in good shape, but the logbook has seen better days. It looks like the logbook had taken some water damage, but was dry now. However, the logbook was also been forced back into the cache causing it to be be scrunched. This one could may due with a fresh logbook.

18-Nov-22
Enjoyed getting the answers and completing the puzzle. Didn’t take too long to work out the hiding spot even though I didn’t understand the hint. Logbook quite damp but writable.
Travelled back to my home state of Victoria from New Zealand to attend the Whittlesea MEGA (and maybe visit family!)
Thanks for the cache, opted-out user

Out and about doing an AL and decided to stop here. Glad we did! Wish we had paper (or a printed copy of the crossword). Wrote on the back of my hand instead. Enjoyed the clues, especially the cryptic hint. Plenty of muggles around but all more concerned with their own activities to notice us.

18-Jul-22
Needed to take the four legged friend for a walk this afternoon- and the sun did poke out. A footy match was on so I walked to all the WP’s ,gathered the clues and got the gitz of the crossword.
At WP 3 ,I could see that GZ was not going to be possible with the match still on so I decided to head for the traditional cache 1.3 km away.
The walk was very pleasant and there is a lease free area for dogs.
Having collected the “Bolt” cache -and meeting a fellow geocacher there I returned to the oval to find the football over. Therefore GZ was accessible- a quick find after checking the cryptic clue. - took the unloved time although I think a cacher ahomberg found it last week. Thanks flukeywife for the multi, the research and the placement to highlight this area.

Find #12792

This was my 3rd visit to this one after it was initially missing, then confusion with a 'Maintenance Performed' log from the co had me checking again. Finally today, I needed a multi for a personal challenge I am working on, so perfect for today! Cache in location and in good condition.

Massive thanks go to flukeywife for placing this one.

Found it with the help of local Rover Scout Unit. TFTC

28-Feb-22
A little bit of night caching with the local Rover unit. Thanks for bringing us here, never knew there were this many memorials located in this park.

01-Feb-22
We originally started this one during lockdown and hoped to solve a few before going out and finding once lockdown was lifted. Unfortunately the cache had been disabled by then!

Today finally got out here, filled in the missing answers and then waited patiently for some muggles to clear before grabbing the container. Lots of walkers here you have to lookout all directions! TFTC

19-Jan-22
Ferndale Reserve, starting point for tonight's orienteering event, so I decided to arrive early as the cache in the area looked to be a lot of fun. Arrived at WP1 and with the crossword printed out started to fill in answers to the clues. It the hit me that this was a unique way of putting together a multi cache with each waypoint taking you through a slice of history within the Reserve. WP3 and 4 are certainly worthy of recognition. WP3 for a young Commando who lost his life in Afghanistan and WP4 for a life dedicated to the local community. Thank You flukeywife for this geocache may it continue to live on to commemorate these local heroes. A favourite from me.

20-Oct-21
I found this cache today on my Nothing is Easy Today - Eastern Suburbs Tour. I had solved a couple of other puzzle caches in the area yesterday so I looked at this cache as an added one to pick up. I printed off the required grid and clues, then found out that I was able to work out almost all of the clues before setting out today, which I really enjoyed working through, even though it probably took me about three times longer than doing it actually in the park. At GZ, I was able to easily sit and retrieve the hide without attracting too much attention. As a bit of history, our 14th ever cache find was also made in this park, way back in 2004 and was called "Centre of Melbourne". Two years later, we returned for our 1,067th find in 2006 named "Geographical". Both of these caches of course were based around the same theme. Thanks from D B-A

05-Sep-21
Apologies to those who have come by recently as it’s taken quite a while to replace this cache. I am happy to say it’s back in the hide. When found, please replace it carefully in the correct way.

28-Aug-21
Still not there... Too bad -- it's a fun geocacher!

26-May-21
This geocacher reported that the cache might be missing.

25-May-21
Had another look before work again today, third time lucky? Nope, looks like CO has not replaced it despite the Maintenance log.

23-May-21
Enjoy walked around to collect the clues for final. Arrived gz... cache not there... read the cacher’s comment & notice CO mentioned cache wasn’t there. Disappointed
Thanks

23-Apr-21
Checked on cache, seems to have been muggled again. Will replace.

10-Feb-21
A bit of time to kill before heading out to dinner for my son’s birthday.
A very well thought out multi. I especially like how there’s somewhere to sit at each wp to work through the crossword. I did have trouble with some, but only as my work printer somehow left the last line off the crossword, but I managed to get there in the end.
A fav point heading your way.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache, flukeywife

10-Nov-20
Finally back in the area, I was able to turn this one into a smiley . Thanks for placing the cache flukeywife

25-Oct-20
Out on my own today escaping a little from lockdown. Plenty of others doing the same thing but in a different way. Would not like to be here on a match day. Checked quite few places before i made the find. Clue made no sense to me. Thanks for the cache flukeywife

08-Jun-20
Cache is back where it should be after being muggled in February. Happy caching.

This one got the better of me today, after spending quite some time doing the crossword on my phone. It’s a great multi that I hope will be foxed. Thanks for the hunt & getting me out of the house flukeywife

Looks like the cache has gone AWOL again, will replace soon. CO

17-Sep-19
17 Sep 2019: Streak Day #201/366 (1 March 2019 - 29 February 2020). Been coming back here few times. Each visit I came here to take a photo of WP then go home, do calculation for next WP and so on until the final WP, unfortunately too many muggles here other day so came back here tonight to sign the log. No more visiting here for while. Thanks for bringing me here to this lovely park and fun.

30-Jun-19
The new playground is open and ready for the kids to enjoy!
Thankfully WP2 is still in its original position.
All good to keep caching!

23-Jun-19
Suscoe was up in Melbourne today for a few reasons and one of them was to find some caches.
The weather was pleasant for a Winter's day, started out very foggy and still and cold but as the day passed by the fog lifted, the temperature rose slightly and finally the sun broke through with blue skies.
We had a good run today with weekend traffic much better than weekdays.

Thanks to flukeywife for this wander around this delightful park.
We enjoyed finding the clues and the hide.
All good today.

Nice bit of local history. tftc

05-Mar-19
So sorry but I only just realised that I had forgotten to log this at the time.
We were concerned when we approached, that we weren't going to be able to get this one as there are extensive works going on. We made our way, the long way around, from our parking and made the find after waiting for a muggle to finish exercising the whitest dog we have ever seen. Luckily, we could take a seat and chat whilst waiting in the typical caching "nothing to see here" pose. Thanks for the cache and bringing us here.

05-Mar-19
Wasn't sure if we would be able to find this or not as there was some construction work not far away but all way good and eventually, the find was made. Thanks for the cache and bringing us here.

28-Feb-19
A bit of internet searching had me at WP2 and then photo supplied by the CO due to the work on the playground had me at WP3, but then I had no option but to venture into the heat for the rest of the cache. It was all very straightforward and I want to congratulate the CO on such a well constructed puzzle! we were very lucky wit our timing at GZ - a muggle father and son had just left, so we retrieved the prize (love love love the hint) and then as I was signing the log two council trucks pulled up to mow the grass. I was wondering how I was going to replace the cache when I realised I had the perfect decoy, so I wheeled the pram around to block the view and then mucked about with the wheels and the cache was returned. The perfect crime. Thank you flukeywife - an excellent cache on a very warm day.

09-Feb-19
The playground is currently undergoing an upgrade so WP2 is inaccessible. While the works are in progress, I have attached a picture of the plaque which provides the clues for this location. Please don't jump the cyclone fence! I hope the plaque will still be there when the works are complete, in the meantime, good luck & happy caching!

08-Feb-19
I dropped by here today, not realising the style of multi was a little more complicated than my tired brain was anticipating.
It then became even more challenging when one of the WPs was securely hidden behind cyclone fencing erected for capital works improvements.
This will be an impassable barrier for a while.

Something to keep in mind...

25-Jan-19
This was easier to work out using a paper copy of the crossword going from WP to WP filling in the blanks. One question was a little tricky but the answer to it ended up being not so difficult. Worked out GZ but the appointed place was mugglified! And the hint was was a bit cryptic but soon worked out. So a second visit was needed. A quick search and the prize was recovered and SL. TNLN although the zip bag was torn so it was replaced. This should keep the log dry for a while. The damp log soon dried out in the windy 45deg heat today. Thanks flukeywife for the stroll in the park and the brain teaser.

09-Jan-19
It was lovely doing a multi in this big green park. I found all the answers easily and then headed off to get the cache, which was exactly where it should have been. The log was a bit damp bit still able to be signed. Great spot for a cache.

22-Oct-18
An early finish to the day allows time for a cache or two. Having worked on this cache a number of times, collecting more info each time I visited this wonderful park, it was time to finish it off. Leaving the geo-loppy with the other mechanical devices for the very last time, I wandered off directly to GZ to make a quick and easy find. TNLNSL. TFTC. Kkams

Some of the trees in this reserve are beyond magnificent!
One can only imagine how old they may be.
Quite humbling actually.
I guess the name of the reserve stems from a property that once resided here.
A lovely walk.
Cache found using a printed sheet. Smile
Usually I'm more into paperless caching but not on this occasion.
Thank you for bringing me here flukeywife.
Added to my favorites list. [^]

28-Sep-18
Found today on an extended dog walk - holiday treat for T. Exactly where we thought it would be. TFTC.

01-Jul-18
We returned and found it after having a little more experience in the field! It was fun dodging the mini muggles but we got away with it Thank you to the owner for making this a fun experience

17-Jun-18
Cache Owner checked cache and visited a TB before taking it on a trip. Good to see the cache is still in it's correct location.

09-Jun-18
Pretty sure we got to the correct location, it made sense with the hint too but couldn’t locate a cache today

19-May-18
I've wanted to follow the trail of this multi for quite a while and today I got the chance. Most days I attempt to solve a cryptic crossword, so this geocache had instant appeal for me. Apart from the start every waypoint was so subtle that I thought I was in the wrong place. GZ had to wait as it was in use, so I returned a couple of hours later with ICW to find the prize. Tftc and a fav point from me.

19-May-18
Well I went down there not to do geocaching initially, but to watch a footy team, Old Ivanhoe play the local mob. After an Old Ivanhoe victory I met up with my wife (Ninja Tortoise) in a local cafe. She had done all the ground work but had issues at GZ, so off we went to GZ. After a bit of mucking around, the little blighter was discovered for the first time in eight months. TFTC.

18-Sep-17
I do like a multi-cache and what's better, a multi-cache with a difference. The difference was responsible for not attempting this cache for quite some time despite it being reasonably close to home.
However I'm glad I eventually did so as the difference is now responsible for my thorough enjoyment of this cache. Almost everything worked like clockwork but for the value of 'M'. For the life of me I could not find a corresponding numerical value on the (almost) complete crossword at that point. Thankfully you don't actually need a value as inputting various numbers for 'M' led to only a single possibility being of any use.
Otherwise, the cache was found safe and sound in the second place I looked on the structure. A well executed cache and I think one deserving of a favourite point for: a. the effort put into creating it, b. the concept, c. the compact nature of the multiple WPs. Any further and it would've been somewhat of a chore, any closer and you wouldn't get that sense of achievement on completion.
Thanks for an enjoyable multi-cache, flukeywife. Now my closest unfound multi to home is the St. Kilda Botanical Gardens. Attempted once and was defeated by the maths, must attempt again!

19-Jul-17
Had a rare spare weekday afternoon so after a few finds out in the south east I was back in more familiar territory. A bit of a rainy afternoon but I seemed to dodge the showers pretty well. This was the thirteenth of fifteen finds that I managed to get in the end. I had passed by this one a few weeks ago but didn't fancy a long night time walk around the wetlands and so I let it be. It turns out (even though there are several stages) it's not long at all and after I had parked up I was soon collecting the required information. Got a bit more difficult when I headed to my calculated GZ and I spent quite a while looking for the well concealed cache. Almost gave up and was really pleased to get there in the end. I grabbed the CO pathtag that was in the cache, signed log and visited some trackables. Thanks for the multi cache and for the pathtag Facitman and e-Facit.

07-Jul-17
TFTC. Had to take a crash course in cryptic crosswords making this a super satisfying find

20-Jun-17
This cache is one of the few within 3 km of my home that I hadn't yet attempted. I had thought it would take a while to complete. I am more about instant gratification! And more often than not I mess up on multis.

Today I finally came by, and had the container in my hand in about 15 minutes. I really enjoyed the flow of this multi, and would never have known about the plaques without GC.

I don't get out geo-hunting very often these days. But when I do I focus on caches like this one that are well-appreciated, based on percentage of premium finders who award fave points. I have added mine! Thanks for a beautifully constructed multi!

20-May-17
Mum's cache!

09-May-17
I rather liked this one. Makes for a nice twist on the examine-the-plaques genre. I actually liked the idea looong before I arrived to complete it; have been carrying the printed-out crossword for perhaps a year! I arguably chose a poor day to take the stroll though. Mid-morning drizzle threatened to make said crossword into papier mache. On the other hand, it also meant that there was almost no-one around to watch me fetch the cache. Which is always nice. Not that it made for a particularly protracted search. I wonder how close this park is to the geographical centre of Melbourne nowadays; hard to imagine that that hasn't shifted a bit. But enough of this rambling. Thanks a lot flukeywife!

30-Apr-17
Did the exploratory walk around to gather the data for this cache about ten days ago. Returned on this Sunday morning with GZ identified to fill a gap in my calendar. There were people around walking dogs, and others preparing for junior football, but I followed the hint and made a quick and unobtrusive grab, then retreated to a peaceful spot to extract and sign the log. An FP for a creative puzzle combined with some interesting history of the area. TFTC

08-Mar-17

20-Feb-17
Found it with milatirel

09-Jan-17
Finally found the sucker!

Had better luck than last time with less muggles around for other WP.

Took a while before the hint hit me!

Thanks for the ride

03-Jan-17
Difficult to do by phone light but got there in the end. Funnily enough I said to my geo-partner I bet it's there on our way to WP3

26-Dec-16
All is well. Cache still at GZ. Happy caching and Merry Christmas!

05-Nov-16
Maybe someone took it?

25-Sep-16
Pretty sure we found the GZ but no geocache, crossword was fun. We will try again

12-Sep-16
CO reporting cache is back in action. Perhaps it was there all along just so well hidden even I didn't see it when I last checked? Cache contains logbook and small pencil.

15-Jul-16
Cache has gone MIA. Will replace soon. CO

10-Jul-16
Found all the WPs easily and I thought I was at the correct location, but I couldn't find it Sad

29-May-16
Cache safe in place. Loved the cryptic clue and crossword. Walked around the park today and worked out where the cache was located but could not retrieve due to footy match in progress. Have been back under cover of darkness and logged the find Smile)

30-Apr-16
CO - checked in on the cache after a DNF. Happy to report it is secure in its hide, all good. Visited a TB too.

26-Mar-16
Sent the Geokids off on their bikes and took the time to figure out the clues. Absolutely confident Geoange and I are at GX but no cache.

Find #: 4107
Time: 4:03 pm
Date: Wed 30 Sep 2015
This afternoon Pam had her sewing group around, so I was sent caching, such a problem ....
This was find #3 of 7 for the afternoon.
The cache was found after the kids playing nearby moved on.
It was in good condition.
Thanks for placing this cache flukeywife

12-Aug-15
Dropping my father off to visit mum at Cabrini and you know how it is, I need to grab a few caches on my way home.
Magic cache and journey around the park. Missing the answer for W but an educated guess had me at the correct GZ on the first go for a quick find. A favorite for the crossword.
Thanks for placing this cache flukeywife

27-Jul-15
On the way into Melbourne for dinner with Team Crackers and Micaparamedic we stopped of to find some caches along the way.
Thanks flukeywife,
Regards The Coffee's.

27-Jul-15
A few finds today to celebrate a birthday. Out and about with Team Crackers before we headed into the CBD for an enjoyable evening meal. Cache was located and log signed with no problems encountered.

Many thanks flukeywife for placing this cache Cool.

27-Jul-15
We were here a few weeks back and collected the required information but when we got to GZ there was a group of people doing exercises not far off so rather than compromise the cache we left it.
Tonight we came back with micaparamedic and The Coffees but this time in the near dark and very cold we had the place to ourselves and the cache was found after a short search and our names have been added to the log.
Many thanks flukeywife for effort put into this cache.

20-Jul-15
I got a "needs maintenance" message so have checked it out:
Cache still at GZ, tick.
Container still watertight, tick.
Contents dry, tick.
Logbook still has plenty of space, tick.
Instructions and Pencil still there, tick.
All signage for clues at WPs still present, tick.
Unsure why cache needed maintenance, but it was a lovely day for a walk around a favourite park to make sure.

25-Jan-15
This cache had been on my to do list for a while, but I never made it to the park. TurnerfamilyFTG and I decided to look for it today. At the start, we didn't really understand what we were meant to do. Then we did make sense of it, but of course we hadn't printed the puzzle. We tried to do it by just writing down the words and identifying information as we went, but unfortunately this meant that we messed up the last WP. We ended up at the other end of the park, where none of the question could be answered. Walking back, we found answers to at least some, but not the plaque nor the seat we were looking for. So we sat down and with a bit of logic were able to establish what the missing clues were meant to be. We deciphered the last part of the hint, which helped to locate the cache but only realised what the first part meant later on. TFTC

25-Jan-15
Lochb and I arrived at WP1 and collected the clues. Ee were then a bit puzzled what to do ne t but lochn soon had it figuref and we made our way to WP2. More clues and off to WP3... but something went wrong. We couldn't find what we needed. Walked around a while the decided to make some educated guesses. We had a likely GZ and after using the allocated 30min plus some we found the cache. Thanks Flukeywife for the cache.

A delightful and satisfying joy to log this find.

I had seen this on my geomap many moons ago but today was the day I finally tackled this one. Unsure why it took so long to visit since it is only a short drive from my work.

The park this morning had a few muggles around, especially parents & grandparents with their children. However none took much notice of this cacher trying his best to look casual whilst finding clues for the crossword. I loved the fact that there were seats next to each WP! Perfect to calculate the next step. All went to plan except for wp2 which had me walking around in circles whilst searching. I had assumed it would be a noticeboard or sign. However once I sat down and rethought my assumptions, oh there it was right in front of me.

Fantastic park & a beautiful day to enjoy it. Thanks for setting this cache up. A thoroughly enjoyable multi. Cache was found in good condition, SL, visited TB, took pirate TB & once the area was clear of muggles, replaced in its hiding spot.

17-Nov-14
This was number one priority for me this morning while on my post-sport-drop-off tour around the area. All the clues fell in line just nicely during a very pleasant walk around the park and I even had the stash in hand quite quickly from the second place I looked at 06:00.

That's where things went a tad awry. Just as I was about to return the container and move on, a couple of joggers finished their morning run and decided to do their cool-down about 10 metres from GZ. Surprised Oh well, it was a nice morning so an extra walk in the park was in order. Smile Observing GZ from a hundred or so metres away, I noticed that they'd finished up their activities so I started to head back when another couple of joggers arrived and started their warm-up procedures at exactly the same place! Surprised

After some more walking around this pleasant park, they finally headed off on their morning jog and I was finally able to replace the cache unobserved before the next batch arrived. Wink

TNLNSL. Thanks flukeywife.

01-Nov-14
I really enjoyed this multi. You have included my 3 favorite activities too. It was great fun wandering around the park. Thanks for taking me around here. Took the Leaky TB and left the Pirate Jared TB. TFTC.

CO just checking the cache - happy to say it is still where it should be and in good condition. Dropped in a TB that I'd had for a while to send on for more adventures.

Cache has been muggled. Even though the 2nd WP seemed off we used our local knowledge and everything else seems to fit, including the hint. So I am pretty sure we got the right GZ but no cache.

30-Jul-14
The cache is back again! Please make sure it is replaced securely out of muggle view. Happy caching.

05-Jul-14
During the week I had this lined up to do as we were at a footy game here on Saturday , however the cache was just disabled due to muggles. BUT that didn't stop me from doing the puzzle and doing all the waypoint calculations during a wander through the park learning about some local history and a soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice. This crossword format is a great idea , and made this a fun multi, I will have to return to sign the log in the new cache and award a fav point when I do. Thanks

Sadly cache appears to have been muggled. Will get busy making a new one to replace it.

02-Jul-14
Cache is gone

01-Jul-14
Loved the use of the crossword in the cache.
Once the coordanites for GZ was worked out, found that there was no cache there . Sad
Looked around the ground for a bit and found the piece of paper explaining what to if you are a muggle and you found the cache unintentionly.

TFTC. It's a pitty because it was such a good cache.

This was a novel and different way to explore the park. What an excellent idea the crossword is, I really enjoyed fitting each clue into the solution and seeing the next set of coordinates appear. It flowed very well and we were able to locate the hide nice and quickly.
Thanks to flukeywife for the cache.
