The Big Western Australia trip in 2018. Day 13. The road again continued West to Timber Creek and then Kununarra, plenty of roadside stops in the hyper long grass along the way.
I was happy to be able to head up onto the ridge without having to climb all the way up. A few good spots, great views. Too many rocks for me here.
Thanks.

A quick find on our second attempt. Curse you lumpy and your love of rocks hahaha TFTC
Quick easy find with Baby904 whom previously had a DNF. Track back to Timber Creek for a bite to eat and the rest of our Geocache Kununurra road trip.
Hi there Lumpyjrb - today was a driving day from Timber Creek to Kununnurra. The trip was pleasant with mostly quick finds at the stops made. This cache and log are in good condition - SL. This is our find #5051 - thanks to Lumpyjrb for this cache.
Took me a while but finally got it. Juste before Muggles arrived
TFC and happy geocaching

After completing our 10day tour of the top end of NT it was off for a quick jaunt to WA before turning around & heading home.
We stopped for lunch at Timber Creek & combined some sight seeing & caching on our way out of town. The view from up here is amazing so after some photos we set off in search of a cache. I thought it might take us some time but a quick peek at the spoiler photo soon had the cache in hand. Log signed & cache replaced as found.

We are still wandering around northern Australia from one side to the other after attending the Red Centre Experience over Easter. We are currently camped at Timber Creek trying to find all the caches in this area. It was not to be as I had 2 DNFs!
I held little hope of finding this cache after reading many of the logs, and even less when we arrived at GZ. In fact I had already decided that I wouldn't bother with it and said as such to Pa when I bent down and moved a rock and miraculously there was the cache! I think some people are forgetting the rating on this one thus making it harder for themselves.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for us to find Bushies2. Will award an FP because it was such a quick find. Ok the view was pretty specky too! Stamped log.

After having a very pleasant day's caching in Katherine it was time to head west and pick up some caches between here and Timber Creek.
We arrived here to see some more magnificent views of Timber Creek and Victoria River and thought we should go and look for the cache while we had the area to ourselves. We spent quite a few minutes searching around and over with no luck at all. We then some previous logs and found that everlasting had replaced it and had very kindly added a spoiler pic so after a little bit more examination we soon found the right area and not long after the log book contained our name. We then headed off to make the most of the picture opportunity.
Many thanks Lumpyjrb for the cache.

After leaving Darwin we stopped over in Katherine and then continued west.
Late afternoon found us here at Timber Creek, so we dropped the van and then went out here before the sun set.
Great views of the river and the town below.
The bonus was that there was a cache as well.

tftc,
Today is day 23 of an adventure that will take me around Australia with a group of trackables. My caches visited can be tracked by checking out the Key Ring using the code TB4P4C1.
enjoying the drive on the bitumen. Another 3 days and we will have over a week of dirt again. We will enjoy this bit of highway driving. It's the places people take you to with their cache placements that inspires you to explore our great Country.
Very clever hide. A favorite from me.
As a part of my contribution to helping make the "Easter 2017 Red Centre Experience" GC6825Z a great Event, I will be leaving a card in every cache that is large enough to take it. This card provides a number for a trackable so you can "Discover me". There is also the Web page address "red.ozmega.com.au".
Happy caching.

Took a while to locate, but soon had cache in hand, signed the log and replaced. Showed some mugglers what geocaching was all about. thanks to Lumpyjrb.
DNF. I gave this a long search. This is no 1.5 star difficulty; likely a 3 or more. Real 1.5 star difficulties don't have as many DNFs (if any), and many people do not log DNFs, so likely many more did not find it. I know I am not alone (from other people's comments) in finding caches badly rated annoying. A shame, as it deserves a favourite for the wonderful view you bring people to.
Our current visit to Australia had been in the planning for over a year with the very significant help and advice from friends who live in Melbourne. The original plan was for a 2 month visit, but as things progressed we just couldn't help extending our trip to the full 90 days allowed on our visas - after all it's a big country and so much to see and do, especially with our favourite pastimes being birding, hiking and of course geocaching! Our journey started with our arrival at Perth airport followed by a day cycling around Rottnest Island before travelling on to Adelaide where we met up with our friends. We then continued on to spend some time on Kangaroo Island, before heading to Melbourne via Goolwa, Strathalbyn, Coorong, Mount Gambier, Cape Bridgewater, the Grampians National Park, Port Campbell, Cape Otway and Lorne, cramming in as much as possible on route. The second leg of our journey was a fabulous 9 days in Tasmania. Having then returned to Melbourne we set off on the third leg of our journey, which was to Sydney via Wilson’s Promontory, Lakes Entrance, Mallacoota, Pambula Beach, Thredbo, Canberra and Fitzroy Falls. We then spent a few days in Sydney with geocaching friends efore flying on to the Gold Coast for the fourth leg of our travels, that included visits to Lamington National Park, Noosa and an overnight trip out to Fraser Island. We then flew from Brisbane to Cairns, where we spent a couple of nights before heading out to the birding hotspots of Yungaburra and Daintree. Following on from a visit to Cape Tribulation we turned to Port Douglas. After a day out on the Great Barrier Reef we returned to Cairns for the flight to Alice Springs and the fifth leg of our travels, which was a wonderful week driving the circuit to and from Ayers Rock in our 4x4 camper. On returning to Alice Springs we then flew on to Darwin, where we picked up another 4x4 camper. We are currently making our way towards Broome via Kakadu, Cooinda, Katherine Gorge, Kununarra, Lake Argyle, Emma Gorge, the Bungle Bungle’s and Fitzroy Crossing. Our last two nights in Australia will be spent in Broome before we fly back to Perth, from where we will connect with the flight all the way back home to Zimbabwe via South Africa. We already know we can't wait to return!
Fortunately for us this was a nice quick find at Ground Zero as the hiding places were endless - although unfortunately geo husband dropped the log book, and it then took longer to find the log book again than it took to find the cache! Thanks so much for the cache, and please have a favourite point, especially as we got to see our first ever Gouldian Finches in the parking area!

Took a while and wanted to give up, however hubby was successful. Enjoying a day caching around Timber Creek. TFTC.
On our trip around Australia we stoped here to grab the Cache.
Thank's to show us this beautiful place.
Greetings from Switzerland.

Heading up the West Coast to the V8's in Darwin grabbing caches along the way. TFTC.
Wow! What a stunning view! Alas we were unable to find the cache. It is 39 degrees. It feels like you are standing on the sun. Old mate is sick as a dog and here I am looking through yet another pile of rocks. Had to move on.
Boy o boy... This certainly put us to the test. The
GPS jumped around quite a lot, but in the end
the co-ords were spot on. Just need to spend
time and muster up some patience.
Signed and replaced and it is in great condition.
Thanks heaps Lumpyjrb

While at Timber Creek we had another detailed search and came up with the goods. With increased leaf litter the cache is becomming difficult to find. By reading other logs we were able to narrow the search area down.
Thanks for placing this cache for our enjoyment.
Thanks for placing this cache for our enjoyment.
Out and about but failed to unearth his one. Looked in many likely places but failed to unearth this one.
The sun just happened to show a tiny bit of a different colour, so we were able to make the find. TFTC.
No luck for us here today. Like everyone else lately. Just too many rocks to search through. Well worth the drive up here though, view is brilliant. TFTC.
We had no luck here today, We had a quick look but with previous DNF's we opted to move on.
This is much harder than a 1.5 star just because of the many options. Too many rocks. Turned over a couple of dozen, but no luck as darkness fell.
No cairn in place to mark the spot, and way too many rocks to turn over. Too many animals being disturbed as we looked.
Found, while travelling west on our second trip around Australia.
A great view back over the small town of Timber Creek.
The cache was soon found, as previous finders have left a small cairn in position as mentioned in previous logs.
This would have been a bit more difficult otherwise.
Thanks for the cache, Lumpyjrb.

At the end of a wonderful scenic detour from the highway, I arrive and had the place to meself
Fabulous views !!
Of course the Fab views bit only applied to the view, not the cache
Oh no not another pile of rocks [:o]
Some nice geo-person had left a tell tale cairn of stones above the cache though [^]
Not noticible to the normal muggle eye, but to a geocacher … well you may as well had a spotlight shining on the spot
TFTC, I took 'The Butterfly' travel bug and popped in the 'Pinky the Team Bodgtech Troll!' travel bug

This was our 5th cache find in the caching run (0 DNFs today.)
We found it at 15:52 so this now makes our total find count 6928.
[blue]
Travelling from Katherine to Kununurra. There wasn't a lot of opportunities to cache between Katherine and Timber creek, mainly because of the muggles. After we set up camp at Timber Creek, we managed to find quite a few around the nearby area.
Great views from here.
[/blue]
Coordinate Accuracy: Excellent (Around 2 metres).
Cache Condition: Container and log book are in good shape.
Took: Nothing.
Left: Smiley Badge.
Dropped: TB "The Butterfly"
Thanks Lumpyjrb for the hunt today.

We have not had an internet service since leaving Kununurra so these are being logged a little late.
After setting up camp at the Big Horse Creek campground we unhitched the caravan to search for the caches in the Timber Creek area.
Great views from up at this lookout, after a short search we found the cache. Later we were tild about a nice smiley face on a rock close by.
Took a TB

Timber Creek, NT
What? Where?
Timber Creek is an isolated small town on the banks of the Victoria River in the Northern Territory of Australia. The Victoria Highway passes through the town, which is the only significant settlement between the Western Australia border and the town of Katherine to the east. Timber Creek is approximately 600 kilometres (370 mi) south of Darwin, in an area is known for its scenic escarpments and Boab trees.
Well here we are in NT, the time difference has us a bit thrown ATM. Woke up this morning at first light as usual and it was 6.30am not 5am, lol, also was thinking the sunset would be 5.30pm as usual and was all confused as it didn’t set till 7pm, Ha Ha. Hopefully will start to get used to it soon.
We decided to have a rest day here as the rent is quite reasonable, only $30 a night. ................ by lunch time the work had been done and after lunch, well, about 3pm we went for a quick dip in the pool then headed out to find come caches.
Our first cache was “Ye Olde Cop Shop, GC48N2R”, On the way we stopped at the ‘Policeman’s Point Lookout’ which is a scenic viewpoint of the river and a popular fishing spot. Once we arrived I had to distract the nice old chap who was working at the museum while Jacki and the kids searched for GC, lol, another ‘find & sign’. While we were here I got a photo to log “Timber Creek Police Station and Museum Information, GA1405”
We then went off to find “Big Foot's BIG HORSE, GC1XKPR”, this was a DNF for us, we searched all around but the spot suggested by the hint and clues in the logs only showed some broken bits of square black plastic on the ground around GZ, . We had a bit of a look at the camp ground, which was packed, and then down to the boat ramp where a couple of brave or foolhardy fisho’s were trying their luck, in more ways than one, (read, possible huge salties), LOL. (visit link)
Next stop was to the ‘Nackeroo Monument’ dedicated to The North Australian Observation Unit (NAOU) was affectionately known as the 'Nackeroos’ who were responsible for keeping watch of Northern Australia following the bombing of the Top End and North West of Australia. (visit link) This monument is situated on top of the escarpement overlooking the town and has various viewpoints along the roadway. We drove to the last viewpoint and got out to have a look at the view north over the Victoria River, there was a cache to find here “Victorian Vistas, GC48B16”, this was found by Charlie after we had all but given up and were about to walk away, happy to find this one as it has had a few recent DNFs. We went back towards the monument and stopped at another view point also looking north towards the river and looked for a cache here, “Steep Head, GC1Z16Z”, a quick find for Chloe.
Last cache for today “Vic River Lookout, GC1XKQ6”, was a DNF, despite all four of us searching for ages in every crack and crevice within 10m of GZ, , which was odd as it had only been found the week before. We stayed to watch the sunset, another magnificent blazing red and orange fireball before sinking down beyond the horizon. While we were here we got some photos to log the cache “Nackeroos, GA1132”.
It was now time to go back to the caravan once again to prepare dinners and settle in for the night.

Unfortunately this one got the better of us, but we will look again another day.
After unhitching our caravan in Timber Creek CP, Mrs One-Eyed and I took our 4WD up to the lookouts and the cache location, we found there to be too many hidy holes, and with the temp upwards of 35Deg cel. decided to spend the late afternoon under the shady trees at the CP

Third of five FTF today. We have been to this end before however it was nice to come back again and see the town. It took us a while before I finally found it phew! Thanks Lumpyjrb for the cache.
