What a tragic event so its good to see the memory living on through a geocache. This is what I really love about the hobby. Being bought to places that would otherwise be forgotten. Its one thing to find the plastic, but another when you appreciate the reason it was hidden. tftc
Decided to take a day trip to the South Burnett Region to collect a few caches along the way and a special visit to a place I had never been through before. After the event at Cherbourg I wandered through various parts of the region collecting caches that have been placed over the years.
Tftc GeckoSpit, we are on our way to Longreach for an event. Stopping along the way to collect some smilies.
A short walk to the memorial, from the road, would have managed to turn with our van .
Always interesting to see these out of the way things that most people just drive past.
Thanks for bringing us here.

Meandering in our motorhome & detoured to find this cache. Sad story. Once again caching has brought us somewhere we would not otherwise have seen. TFTC & fav point
Slowly caching our wayto Brisbane, taking the road less travelled.
Quick easy find thanks.

While looking one of those lawn mower engines flew over, felt like ducking. Thanks for the cache.
All good with the cache. Got carried away by jumbo sized mosquitoes . Gone but not forgotten. Cheers and tftc
What a beautiful peace of history and a great one for the kids to find. Hope the next tressure hunters find our tressure we left for you.
Number 3 for day whilst waiting for ckat to finish his dental surgery at Murgon vet today. Thanks for the interesting visit. RIP

TFTC. Heading toward Bundaberg after attending the events at QOGM in Cunnamulla. We had left some caches unfound on our trip to Cunnamulla. It was time to stop and find the last 7 in the immediate area. All found and no DNFs.
Thanks for bringing us here. Not somewhere on the main tourist track.

We would never have seen this if not for geocaching. Thanks for showing us .Cache found ok.
Apologies for the generic log.
I had a wonderful afternoon out caching with KerryL and LloydAu. As Pa and I were visiting it was great when Kerry suggested LloydAu drive us out to grab some caches. All that were on the "find" list were found and signed and this was one of them. Thanks to all the COs for placing and maintaining these caches which provided an extra element to our holiday. TNLN SL

A great afternoon caching with SmittenGranny and Lloydyau after the rain cleared. So pleased to turn this one into a yellow smiley face. Thanks to all COs for placing these for our caching pleasure.

Visiting my mum's property for the holidays and decided to do the cache literally basically on her doorstep. Also had a new caching pack to start using so was kind of excited to see that despite being a waterproof log, it still managed to have become quite waterlogged over the years. So a new log and zippy is now in the container as well.
Happy boxing day and as always TFTC

Well, I wasn’t expecting to find a memorial to a plane crash down this dirt track How nice that it exists and that you thought to bring others here.

Another day caching from Goomeri while up from the Sunny Coast. Read the plaque while geohubby went to find the cache. How sad that they were so close to the airport. TFTC GeckoSpit

Found with my partner while visiting family nearby, thanks for placing this cache here we didn’t know about this tragic event until we came here.
Found it eventually. iPhone had me many metres away. I’m visiting from Perth. Thanks for the cache.
Burdons5 and I were on a roadtrip toProston today to pick up our new puppy. On the way home we made a few pit stops to claim some smilies. We paid our respects here before finding the cache and signing the log. Tftc GeckoSpit
While camping in the Nanango area with my geodog Scruffy, we just had to get out & about finding some caches in the surrounding areas.
Thought the plaque might have said more re the crash, but a spot I would never known about if it wasn't for caching ..
Thanks for bringing up here ..

Quick find. Log still wet so I dried it and placed the cache back under some protective camo. Interesting area but very sad for all those involved.
Interesting memorial to the plane crash that claimed 5 lives but one person did survive. Nice to see the artificial flowers there. Crash happened 27 years ago and it was my birthday but when much younger then! No trouble finding this well hidden cache!

I've visited many plane crash sites over the years.
There are always interesting places.
And that so many people care about the crash and the victims,
speaks volumes about how safe aviation is
And how rare fatal crashes are.
An interesting memorial in the scrub
Well looked after too [^]

Monday. Anzac Day. Slow Puncture decided on the spur of the moment to undertake a geocaching road trip which would (eventually) end up taking us through Gympie > Kilkivan > Goomeri > Murgon > Wondai > Kingaroy > Nanango > Yarraman > Blackbutt and back home again. All up this took 11 hours.
We ventured off the road at the sign, and soon had a choice as it was unsigned thereafter. Took the obvious choice (the road that was NOT a private entrance) and within seconds found ourselves at the memorial. Spent some time looking at the plaque and wondering what had occurred. Then we found the cache qiuickly, thanks to the hint.
This was the 17th of 26 caches found on today's trip.
Thanks ***GeckoSpit***, for showing us this place.

This was the second day of caching in Nanango for Captain Terror and I. We had come up for Nanango's first event and this morning we were out caching with Bulldozer72. This was the thirteenth cache for the day for me. We arrived at GZ and as soon as we got out of the Ute we started slapping off all of the mozzies that wanted to make away with our blood. The cache was found after looking at old logs and reading the hint often. Captain Terror added the coordinates that worked for us. Thanks for the cache GeckoSpit
Sometime between late yesterday afternoon and this morning, Net88 and I decided to have the morning out with bulldozer72 grabbing whichever geocaches took our fancy on a circuit drive from where we were all camped in Nanango to Kingaroy, onto Murgon, then back to Nanango. Along the way I grabbed twenty finds, we visited a bunch of interesting locations, had a tasty picnic lunch at Bjelke-Petersen Dam and had a few laughs. What more could you want?
I have read about the Wondai plane crash, but had no idea there was a memorial at the site, much less a geocache. What a lovely surprise. My fantastically stretched connection to the aerodrome is I flew over the top one night and flicked the runway lights as a waypoint while en route to somewhere else farther from Archerfield.
We wound up parked close to the site and first thing was to hop out and read the plaque. However, it became very quickly apparent that the area has a serious mosquito infestation. And not the usual little black ones, those big grey buggers that I suspect have an appreciable payload capacity. The self-slapping commenced.
Trying to make this ordeal quick, we fanned out for the hunt, but it soon became clear the co-ordinates might be a little off after Net checked it out on her smartphone. A read of the hint narrowed the hunt to the other side of the road and a quick find was then made. I have added the co-ordinates that worked for me and my GPSr here today. A perfect spot to visit while on our trip through the area, thanks for showing it off, GeckoSpit

Always nice to learn about some history of a area, even though the story may not always have had a good outcome.
Soon located the cache and had the log signed. Quickly retreated to the car as some mozzies had decided we were rather tasty it seems TFTC

We are heading to Nanango's first event and even though it is not till Saturday we thought we would stop along the way and the get the caches that often get missed followed by the comment we will do that one, one day. Last night we stayed in Murgon and tonight we are at the showgrounds in Kingaroy. This was one of the caches we targetted and found. Nice hide. Thanks to GeckoSpit for its placement and adding to our enjoyment of this location.
Out and about with one half of The Drovers from the South Burnett to Gympie areas for a couple of days caching. We found a variety of caches and containers along the way and plenty of different hides to keep us on our toes along the way and this was one of them.
Thanks to all the CO's for placing and maintaining the caches along the way.

We found a variety of cache hides and containers, some a little tricky to find.
Thanks to the CO's for all the effort of placing and maintaining these caches, we had an awesome 2 days.

Spending a few days up in the Kingaroy and Nanango districts and places closeby from my place in Brisbane. Due to the number of caches found, I have decided to do a generic log. To all the CO's, a big thank you for bringing us to your area and the many varied caches we found. Thank you for bringing us along the country road. TFTC
Having another annual caching trip to Nanango and Kingaroy with Richmond Lad. Last year we thought we had found most of them but some wonderful COs keep putting out more to entice us back to this lovely region of Queensland. We have driven along quiet , gum tree lined country roads, spotted some peaceful waterways and are becoming experts at stumps!!! Thank you to all the COs who have caches in this area - you are all doing a wonderful job creating, placing and maintaining your hides.
Todays we arrived into Murgon.
We have set up camp in the caravan park near the end of the main street. There is water, toilet & shower but no electricity. $10 deposit for a key to the amenities which is refundable.
Stopped to pick a couple of caches around the country side, some great views from up on Black Mountain
What a tragic accident.

Thanks for the hide GeckoSpit. Co ords out by about 15 metres, meant to check with waypoint, but forgot to press the button. The hint works well.
Wombat the Anthus laptop Geocoin visited, as did Runciple's Grasshopper, a tassie trekkers pathtag, a sweet - sour pathtag, a dolphin, a broken heart and geo achievement 500 caches award

One of the things I love about caching is it brings you to so many places you would never go and educates you while you are there. Nice easy find. TFTC
Next on the list.
Plugged in the coordinates in the car GPS and headed in one road and it was blocked off.
Backtracked and worked out that I had to go around.
Arrived at GZ and paid my respects to the gentlemen on the monument.
Thought about their families that miss them.
Headed to GZ and found the cache.
Swapped from the swag.

I am looking after my Dad's place while he is away.
So a day geocaching was in order.
I am slowly moving west.
A little bit of searching before spotting this one about 15m from the published co-ords.
It is geocaching that brings people to little places like this.

TFTC out and about with Purple_Ninja_00 very sad accident thanks for bring us here
Today I was out and about with GrannySmith1947. It was raining a little but we need the rain so it was great. This was 12 out of 28 geocaches we had ahead of us today. We left home about 07:30 and found this cache at 12:00. After having to take the long way because of a car crash. We arrived at the GZ but it was raining really hard. We found it in the end but the coordinates were way out. The cache is in great condition. Took nothing left nothing. Thanks for the cache GeckoSpit.
With a day that was looking to be too wet to do anything at home , 26mm to 10.00 , 32mm at 1700 when I arrived home. Our wettest day [^] since March this year. Nothing else to do except go caching
I need 7 more for my 900 milestone.
Thanks GeckoSpit for bringing me here, I would have never known about the plane crash, otherwise. A very sad day for those involved. Great to see the community involved in the memorial.

Early morning and not that much traffic about on the D'Aigular and Bunya Highways. Will be glad when April 2015 arrives and the sun is not up as early but good to beat the heat of the day. Read description and thought that this is not quite right for a traditional but GZ not hard to locate. In fact where I parked the car was right in front of the area described in the additional hint so I did not have to go to the posted co ordinates as I have been here several times in the past. Very quick find.

I've driven past this spot many times - aint it funny how it takes a geocache to finally force me to go and see what it's all about. What a very sad story; I didn't realise the crash was as recent as it was - I somehow imagined it must have been some sort of WW2 military crash, so there you go. That's another thing I learned thanks to this wonderful pastime of geocaching. Thanks GeckoSpit for placing this one. Cheers from Bindair Dundat.
