Logs
We decided to visit a few previously solved puzzles. In our haste to sign some logs, we headed off and forgot to consult the attributes and terrain rating. When we finally arrived at GZ, we discovered that we wouldn't be signing the log any time soon. Thanks anyway for the puzzle.Chiefton!!!
Went there this morning with a ladder but couldn’t reach it as too high for my age 74
Back in town after a long time away. This was one solved a long time ago so today with some gear we headed over, first shot was good, tied off and up we went. The muggle builders next door didn't seem to notice and a quicking sign of the log was down before the express trip down. TFTC
…well, it turns out it’s not doable with my ladder and my rope!
We made it to the first branch, but that was as far as it went. These eucalypts aren’t very monkey-friendly! I much prefer climbing pine trees!
Maybe one day if there was another group attempt with some gear we might return.
Thanks “degree symbol“ for putting it out there.

I’m trying to focus on my D/T grid, and this represents a hole to be filled!
Today was all about assessing “das Problem”
It looks doable with the help of a ladder and some rope.
Bis bald.

Unless you provide a fire engine with an extension ladder, this overweight, unfit 50+ can only admire this beauty from ground level. Great placement, if only I had wings...
Today, Members of Team Crustyvarmint including Heymissjo, Bunadoorian, Grub62 and myself got together to retrieve this cache.
Well done Team and thanks to Josh for the rope work and climbing skills.

Excited to achieve a new caching milestone of 500 at this really cool cache with ‘Team CrustyVarmint’. This cache represents not just a milestone, or a new DT for me but also provides me an opportunity to reflect on how caching has changed my life for the better. What started as a hobby to get the kids out enjoying nature and hiking has led to much more. Over the past two years, the kids interest has waned and the temptation of swag was not as exciting. This led me to discover much more adventurous walks and some needed solo time.
Sadly 18 months ago I broke multiple bones in my foot in an accident, restricted my mobility and how much I could do. But it was during this set back that I discovered the concept of unfound caches and puzzles. It was the infamous 1789 that sparked my interest and whilst stuck, unable to walk far, meant I had some extra time to explore and grow my puzzle skills and although that cache is yet to be cracked, I have learnt heaps of techniques trying and have found a love of mystery caches.
Once on my feet again, I was back exploring more caching types, different challenges and doing crazier things like driving 300+km for a FTF. There are so many ways to play the game... I am so hooked!!
In more recent months, caching has lead me to events and meeting and making new friends. Today, at this cache, it’s great to be able reflect on the friendships I have made, the connections and adventures and the many many laughs.
It was great to be part of ‘Team CrustyVarmint’ aka CrustyVarmint, R055ktm, Bunadoorian, Grub62 and of course #GeoJosh or was it John?! to collect this awesome cache.
Thanks for the cache and the cool adventure.

As a member of team Crustyvarmint we got together and were able to find and log this cache. After the email from Crustyvarmint, Grub62 and I got together and solved the puzzle. Crustyvarmint agreed with our solution. Then we all met up to sign the logbook. It was great to up with Crustyvarmint again, heymissjo and r055ktm for the first time, Grub62 and of course Sook the wonderdog. Thanks also to ° for creating and maintaining this cache. TFTC.
This afternoon Team Crustyvarmint (including Crustyvarmint, Heymissjo, Bunadoorian, r055tm, Josh, Mrs Crustyvarmint and Geo K9 -Sook) rose to the challenge and signed the log. We all had completed the challenge and met together. A special mention to Josh for his extra hard work. TFTC Philipp
Today Team Crustyvarmint got together with Heymissjo, Bunadoorian, Grub62 and R055ktm to retrieve and sign this cache. It had been on the todo list for some time, and now it is a smilie face. Thanks to Josh for doing the climbing, and the rest of the crew for their supportand thanks to the CO for making the day possible.
Today a big convoy took part in the Yarra Expedition #9, heading out to explore the upper reaches of the Yarra River. Starting with an event at the chocolate shop we made our way east from Yarra Glen generally following the course of the river.
We ended a great day along the river with a stop on the way home at this GZ.
Solving the puzzle was easy - everyone knows the contribution that Germans have made to world history.
Now for the climb. While we had aTOTT long enough, I was more comfortable getting to the cache the old style - up the rope.
Thanks for the interesting challenge - it turned out to be a great social here today at 5pm.

After a great Yarra Expedition event and large convoy of cars headed off on the way to a late lunch in Yarra Junction.
At the end of the expedition with all the equipment needed on hand some of us headed to this cache since I have had it solved for ages but not good enough equipment to reach it.
It was really scary up this high but I moved down slightly to take the petrified selfie face photo attached. Really nice to finally find this one and nice to get back on the ground so my heart could return to its normal beating rate.
Thanks º for the cache, the adventure, the hunt and the fun.

Was with the group that was able to acquire a TOTT that made this possible today. Thanks for the cache.
Didn't think there was a TOTT long enough to get this cache but luckily there was and it was made available to us today. Thanks to its owner. Was great to be able to get this cache. I thought it was going to take quite a while longer. Just learning the ropes but not quite up to them yet. Thanks for placing this one nice and close to home.

After another successful Yarra Expedition, a handful of climbers decided to have a go at this. Being in my 10k zone, I was interested to come along and have a look.
I’d been here twice before, but dnf’d it.
Not sure if it was that little bit of Southern Courage from lunch or not, but I decided to make another step toward conquering my fear of heights and at least give it a go.
So climb I did.
The climb wasn’t too bad. Signing the log was ok. Trying to take a selfie. Now that takes skill!!
Thankfully there were enough on the ground to take pics from below.
Cheers º

With the puzzle solved in under a minute this was a last top on the way home.
Despite having a ladder going right up to the cache, I decided to stretch the muscles out and ascend up on rope instead - to meet Kirsten signing the log up top! The hand ascender made a nice handhold for her to use while signing the log.
Thanks for the placement.

While out and about in the area with a set of coordinates in hand we thought we would check out this climb, we managed to make this a quick easy ascend, once the log was signed we made our way off again.
Thanks for the cache.
Thanks for the cache.
I parked at a cul-de-sac near this cache today and waiting for my tree climbing partner in crime to arrive. It wasn’t long before he arrived. We headed off, glad that it wasn’t a very long walk, considering the gear we were hauling. Upon reaching the tree, I was happy to see it wasn’t a particularly high one, given I wanted to do some kayaking later on in the day. We soon had the line up, much to the amusement of people walking past (opps, lunch time, lucky the cache says we don’t need to be stealthy here). I went up first, and spent more time trying to get my awesome selfie than I did climbing the tree. Many people started. After all, what is a cat doing up a tree? Nobody offered to call the fire brigade to get me down. I was hurt. And offended. Does nobody care for stranded cats anymore? So I descended under my own steam, and finally, somebody was curious enough to ask what we were doing “just recording some information about the tree”... TFTC º
Worked out the coordinates pretty quickly, although I admit I didn't spot the pattern in the puzzle at first. Checked out the site, spotted the cache, but currently have no means to access it. Maybe I'll be back another time with the right gear! Thanks.
Tried climbing unaided. Made some good initial progress but had to abort after cutting a finger on the sharp remains of a snapped branch. Not sure whether to come back with a ladder or gloves.

[font=Courier New] Well that puzzle soon gave up some good Co-ords surprisingly quickly, wish they were all like that, had more trouble deciding on the easiest access point. Once that puzzle was solved it was a straight forward climb up and controlled slide down. Quite a busy path with not to many inquisitive bypasses, guess if they had seen B1 here they would have seen it all

As we were going to sunny Melbourne for the show and shine event, a couple of cool caches were singled out to grab on the way home from said event....and obviously this was one of them......you know, cause its a tree climb and all.
So Dad was able to solve the puzzle without his head exploding all over the place, and through the magic of the internal combustion engine, we found our selves at GZ.......well, a bit below it.
After a quick discussion between Dad and himself, it was decided that this would be the Queens first big tree climb, so Dad threw up a shot bag and pulled the famous bright green rope up and over, while the Queen geared up. And then up she went like a rat up an aquaduct, reaching the cache in what seemed like no time at all but was infact a little bit longer than that.
With all the colouring in in the log book done, she descended a bit quicker, and we packed up and disappeared into the late afternoon all ninja style before any passing cycle muggles could say.."what are you lot doing, climbing trees or something?"
Thanks Philipp for the elevated fun, and a puzzle that didn't try to kill me.
I was going to give it a favourite but you said not to....and Mark didn't either.
Cheers

Visited after work with 88andy88 to see if we could monkey-climb. No dice.
Re-visited under the cover of darkness with 88andy88 and daznjaneo plus a very tall ladder. Still no go. For safety reasons, we decided not to pursue.
Recommend climbing gear only.

Sure there have been some fine European Engineers but in Australia there are great ordinary people.
Some know one as inventors of high efficiency heaters developed on this site before the multinationals moved in and subdivided it.
Others know them as database consultants to streamline accounting.
Others know them as winners of Victorian safety awards.
Others know them as factory innovators.
Others know them as great sportsmen.
Others know them for this game.
All innovative. All sorts of roles and always just regular people.
And this banana knows lots of people who are just like this.
Sure it is great to be recognized for one great achievement. Others have plenty of achievements and with very little reward just form the web of this beautiful country. Live life to the full and discover what is available out there for those that try.
