Apparently the cache had been moved into the bird hide but there was nothing inside. This cache needs to be replaced. Very cool place though!

Not knowing what we would find at this reserve, family Perpetuallylost nevertheless made a detour while on our way to Walkerville for the afternoon to have a crack at the caches here.
Greeted by a relatively flat path and noticing the recently groomed picnic area, even Mrs P, in post op recovery mode after recent back surgery, was happy to attempt a walk through the bush here.
Well what a lovely surprise, the fresh scents of the native trees after the rain last night and the myriad of birdsongs as we meandered along made for a truly enjoyable walk.

A quick find in the obvious location, cache and contents in perfect condition, thx allan_b for your cache here. A stunning lake and a fantastic bird hide that we enjoyed exploring.

The old saying "Time & Tide wait for no man" was true for us today. 2021 - already with nearly a month gone, we enjoyed an overdue day out in South Gippsland. Certainly a tranquil setting.

Satellites today had our GZ 7 metres WNW of where we found the cache.

Thanks allan_b for placing caches for everyone's enjoyment.

A trip down to Fish Creek for a few days.
Tripping around the area with our cameras with a few caches in the way.

Fantastic new bird hide! All it needs is some birds on the other side.
We saw ducks, a coot, more ducks, one raptor, more ducks, and then, is it.... Yes, another duck!
Certainly worth the walk, lot of birds and wallabies along the track.
Thanks for all the good sized caches, Robmc.

Such a gorgeous spot. How’s the serenity? No diesel fumes here. Certainly a wildlife day. Watch for dropbear burrows, very large wallabies and yes, a snake. But that’s what makes this special. Tftc alan_b

This was a lovely wetlands are to explore. We were excited to see a swan on her nest in the distance. The new bird hide is very impressive and great bird life. It was great to get out in the sunshine and fresh air.

Thanks for the cache.

We were here two years ago with an old phone and no reception. We braved so much scrub in our attempt to find the cache but only found the back end of a brown snake. This year we found it! I hadn't realised how silly we were risking snakes when it was actually quite easy. No swaps in the box sadly so we left a bunch of things for the next people. On another note, it's so wonderful to see the construction of a new bird hide has begun. There's no date for it to be finished yet but it's a start when at one point it didn't seem they were going to replace it at all.

We’re on another long weekend away in the area. No snakes today, although the kids made plenty of noise, so maybe we scared ‘em off?!
We discovered all three caches on the walk, and all of them were found in very clean and neat condition, even containing working pens and nice swaps.
Thank you very much for enticing us back here allen_b! Such a lovely caching experience.

A quick find after a quick trudge. It's interesting to see how Mother Nature is reclaiming the old sealed path. Got to see lots of different fungi, some oh, so tiny! But the highlight would have to be the lake...beautiful. Will go on my picnic lunch destination list. Another fantastic place that geocaching has taken me. TNLN TFTC

This is one of our favourite bird watching places for wetland and bush birds. Cache easily accessed- I went further than I needed to. Bird of the site Black-faced Cuckoo-shrike. Perfect autumn weather on Easter Day. It's a pity the birdhide hasn't been rebuilt.

It's such a shame about the bird hide being burnt down here. It was such a beautiful spot to come and sit for a while. The word is that there are no plans at all to rebuild it as there is no money. The guy who burnt it down skipped the county so he never went to court to face charges for it. We had a good attempt at this cache but again the GPS wouldn't tell us on what side of the path we should take. A very careful search through the bush turned up nothing. We did see the back end of a brown snake as we searched but we kept going with no luck. Thanks anyway, maybe we'll get it next year.

Actually it's a DNA. Did not attempt, not just because of the snake threat but because it was really wet on our path. Next time.

WARNING - BROWN SNAKE RIGHT NEAR GZ!!! We were walking along the path and about 15-20m from GZ, we saw a brown snake sitting on the path before it slowly went away. We eventually persisted to GZ and got too scared to find the cache - we did have a very brief look but we still couldn't see anything. Then, as soon as we started walking back on the path, the brown snake reappeared about 10m from GZ. This is definately not a safe cache at the moment and definately needs some assessing.

27-Mar-16
Completely dry. Could walk straight across. Some kangas grazing. Thanks.

12-Mar-16
I love this place. It was so nice to have some caches here again after some fool set fire to the bird hide. At this final cache we were surprised to see the lake completely dry and wallabies grazing on the flats. I have never seen it this dry in my life, and I've been coming here for decades. We picked up a TB too. Thanks for the cache! Found with DD19 and a handful of muggle relatives in Labour day long weekend.

Great find for the kids, we left something for the next person it didn't take anything.

Great place for cacheing lots bird life in bush but water area dry, also saw two Swamp wallabies left TB

22-Dec-15
Due to the low rain the wetland area didn't have any water in it. Had a nice walk and my geokid saw another brown snake disappear into the bush as we went past. TFTC.

We got to GZ and did a quick check only to walk a couple of steps and there was a large red bellied snake laying on the grass. A quick step back and a retreat to safer ground. The noise from hundreds of frogs nearby will keep this fella well feed all summer.

On a late afternoon caching run with Ceebee2013. I was surprised at the size of the nearby pond. TNLN. TFTC.

06/09/2015 - 4.35pm - No. 487 - 4th for the day - with dgfb33. Got distracted by the really mossy tall stump both times I passed, and you are right, the camera was having a great time too! I expected a bit of water not a BIT of water when we got to the cache! My goodness that's a good stretch of water. Glad the weather was cool but let dgfb33 do the retrieval & return after we signed. Camera was quite busy on the way back to the car too Wink I lagged a bit/lot behind all the way back.
Thanks for the cache. Sorry for the late log, stuff & work just gets in the way sometimes, I shall apologise in each log just to make sure ... ! Big Grin.

I was heading down to Wonthaggi today to continue a run of earthcache visits. I was told about some new caches being published in the area. A short detour was called for and here I am. I enjoyed the walk along the path to the lake seeing a few birds and ducks. I was also happy to grab a few FTF's as well. Found quickly and replaced as found. Thanks alan_b for the cache.
