I have no idea of the history and the hint suggests that it may no longer be there. was 'tie' a clue? Other than the obvious man made fixture, no cache here today. I'm with the previous reviewer. Also, on the map, it seems to be in the river... A little help please.
Any update as to the condition of this? Last find ten months ago, I don't want to spend time scrabbling round for nothing
A second DNF for me!! I really think it has gone. I wandered across after caching a little downstream and this time I knew what to look for and I hope, knew the possie. The larger item is really destroyed and it is not a fun place to be now.
Im not sure if going for this under the cover of darkness is more or less conspicuous. In any case, cool place to hide but it appears to have been muggled. Found it as shown in the photo. Wasn’t sure where to return it.

This cache is one of two traditionals I had left to find within 5km of home coords. Have driven and biked past it so many times, until today!
At the nearby event Jude_E asked "So what's your other cache for today?" And then I remembered that you do need 2 smileys to claim the 22222 souvenir too!
And it was a hot day and I was already in my shorts, so perfect timing to get this cache of no return!
harisree came and joined for this one too, water was slightly above our knees but not too deep to turn back. And I see a couple of others from the event thought the same. Could have been another mini-event but we somehow missed each other.
Such a random spot at GZ. I imagine it was probably a bit nicer looking 6 years ago when the cache was freshly placed. Now it's returning back to the nature on the molecular level.
Kia ora! Paldies!

Decided to go and find this one as my second smiley to achieve the 22.2.22 souvenir. I was definitely over dressed to find this cache, oh well it s what it is. Managed crossing the river without being a disaster and cache was found with the help of the hint. TFTC TwoSharpe.

I've been eyeing up this cache for a while and finally the day has come After the event near by it was still super warm so what better time to go than now a quick find once there but I'm glad we don't have critters that would enjoy this place as a hiding spot! TFTC log a bit damp and hard-ish to write on but otherwise all good
Knotobsessed seemed to be eyeing this up, and given I'd parked my car nearby we jumped in hers, and came here. There was a guy and his dog nearby, but fortunately he wandered off not long after we set up camp. I was over dressed for occasion - she swamp rivers far and wide to get to the island and make a find. She was nice enough to sign my name in the log, while I kept watch on her items and be on standby to call LandSAR if we never saw her again. Luckily no such carry-on was required. The water actually looked really good on such a hot day. It's interesting how clear it is, when I think of rivers, I think of the Waikato river which I spent many years near.... definitely not as good as this.
TFTC TwoSharpe, the cache was found in good order Signed, sealed and returned to GZ. 5 find(s) of 5 today, making this find #3164

I decided to finally pay a visit here on a very early and rather chilly Sunday morning. The water felt most refreshing and pleasant! Not the warmest though, and it would have woken me up for sure if I was not awake yet. I also jumped back two more times as the first time I emerged covered in mud, with only a mild improvement the second time round, so I decided to wash it off properly and work on my exit technique Thanks for a fun start to the day!
OH YEAH
What an AWESOME cache!!
As a heavy metal fan from my teenage years (and still very much so) this would have to be one of the funnest caches I've ever done.
I was lucky enough to see Iron Maiden live right here in Christchurch on February 22nd 2009.
So 12 years later here I am back in Christchurch and about to wade across the Avon River in broad daylight to look for Tupperware in a small forrest
Hey Bruce (which also happened to be my nickname back then) Hallowed Be Thy Name...
I'm wading through the Avon when the ducks begin to quack,
Reflecting on my past finds and it doesn't have much time,
Cos at 9 o'clock BCDs taking me to Hagley Park,
The sands of time for me are running low,
Running low, yeah!
So with that I get my A into G and actually the water is surprisingly warm. In, across and up the other side. Hmmmmm GZ kind of reminds me of Scarfyville in my home town
Enough said...cache located, signed, returned and back I go.
Definitely a favourite for me here and quite appropriately dressed in my favourite hoodie TFTC

dropped my phone in the river and ate mad shit but its funny. good find, not worth the risk tho ;(
This morning B&M checked out this location and decided to return later with R in his togs! After a delicious dinner at Dux Dine we headed to GZ and after a bit of a pep talk he had the cache in hand! Thanks so much, filling in our DT grid with her from this cache.
No.869 at 1 pm. Easy found, without GPS as usual. Everything in place, but the log is a little damp. TFTC SL. Greetings from a Norwegian walker.
The things we do for caching. Waded out to where I was pointed, but unable to find a cache. Does look like there might have been some flooding recently, and somehow there is a couch out there?!?
What would we do for a souvenir... This cache was the closest to the appartment we lived in for 8 months. We also said we would grab it. Now living a bit further, this sunday, with a souvenir nearby and the high temperatures, it was the perfect occasion to find it. The water was not as cold as expected, and it was so warm outside, I dried pretty fast. I carried little one on the island. And he was more than happy to find the cache. Thanks a lot! Container is in good condition. Logbook a bit humid, but still writable.
I just wanted to see the area, it was a T4. But the water was not deep and so I walked the short distance to the island.
Thank you for the cache says Pöni.
Thank you for the cache says Pöni.
Decided to brave the water on a reasonable day and the cache was in hand in no time. The river wasn’t too bad. The log is a little damp but still ok to sign. TFTH
An early morning adventure with Busypaws and Coconuts. Took a moment as we dismissed a certain item at first. Pleased to find this cache.
Out early with Busy paws and Lytteltonwitch on an adventure to get this cache. What fun we had with this treasure hunt. Thanks for giving me an 'I' for a puzzle cache and a great T rating. Thanks for getting me to another new place not seen before and the cache TwoSharpe. A fav from us.
Out nice and early with Coconuts3 and Lytteltonwitch to FINALLY get this greenie turned into a smiley. Hopefully some photos of the "crossing" will come up. What an interesting and different cache location!! in more ways than one. Water was a bit whoo hoo on entering, we had fun and many thanks. A fav.
Been wanting to do this cache for a while, but last time looked the river was definitely too deep. Biked over from dinner in town tonight and all looked good so made the plunge and once across, the object was obvious (and rather unexpected). Hesitated a bit searching around but found in the end...and quickly back to our bikes on the other side. TFTC
We had an adventure today with the Wood family and got several caches that involved the Avon. Thanks for the cache we had fun.
We were out and about with bairdfamily and were suitably attired so went to retrieve this. A little hesitant at GZ about the state of the hide but found it quick enough. Tftc.
StreetWalker had looked for this cache a while ago, but it was MIA at the time.
Decided to have another look tonight, so SW donned togs and sandals and we drove down the GZ. He found a shallowish crossing and was soon on the island where the cache was a quick find.
Good to turn this into a smile. Thanks, TwoSharpe.

#16831. Needed one more find today to get up to 20 for March 22 (and Troodles need a find too) and we decided it was time to have another go at this one (before the weather gets much cooler). The water in the river was cold, but only knee deep (last time I tried it was deeper). Armed with the updated hint the cache was soon located. Good to finally knock this one off (and then safely make the return journey). TFTC.
Early morning excursion with my older brother for this one to avoid muggles.... I went onto the wrong spot to begin with, then heard my brother call out '2 metres', so back into the water I went and round to where he was. Loved the island location, but not so fond of where the cache was actually situated after a rat was spotted nearby! TFTC and the fun of the island experience
In Christchurch for the weekend and looking forward to a Sunday morning sleep-in. However my sister had other ideas and was knocking on my bedroom door before 7am. So off we went to look for this cache. Of course at that hour there was hardly a soul about. We waded across the river without much trouble and, fortuitously, I landed very close to the cache. Pleasant vegetation but GZ itself wasn’t the nicest spot in some respects! The rat scurrying about in the tree was more afraid of us, I suspect, than we were of it! Anyway we got our hands on the cache reasonably quickly which made the effort all worthwhile. #2350. TFTC.
This one had been on our to do list for a long time. It was decided today was the day to give it a try. Got a bit wet but managed to find it so well worth the effort. TFTC
orangepeel104 left sandals behind so I generously handed mine over and gave advice from the other side. Not an appealing GZ I gather but done none the less. TFTC
Out on an expedition of river caches with Ilmari_the_Red on a warm summer evening. Had spent too much time with a DNF on "Creepy crawly under there" and only got to this well after dark. But even by torch light we managed. TFTC
In Christchurch visiting Trefolia Argentea, and on this warm summer night we kitted up for some "wet-work" and searched for river caches. The only torch we had was on my phone - which made for some rather nervous wading - but we managed to reach the caches while staying dry above the knee! Now, nicely cleaned up back home, I'm very happy to have got these tricky caches. Thank you!
Never seen a cache hide like this before! Warm day do nice to cool off, TFTC
Out on a morning walk while visiting chch with NZ1 and KinWLG.
Saw this one and thought why not. Water a little bit chilly at 5.50am but ok. Once on the other side it was an easy find even in the dark. I must admit once I had the cache in hand of having a "oh no, did I bring a pen moment " , but found deep down in my jacket pocket, phew!
Cache in good shape and gets a fp for placement and maintenance.
Thanks TwoSharp for the Cache.

Found with Sambolini in the afternoon. We dropped off a trackable. I got quite wet but luckily not cold. I have been wanting to find this for quite some time and today was the day. I was confused by the hint but it all made sense as soon as we had got on the land. Thanks for the awesome cache and the fun Two Sharpe!!
Hopped over the river and was Geocaching with BenW2018. Thanks Two Sharpe for the cache!
Jumped over there today and put a replacement cache in today. Moved slightly thanks to the new 'feature' at GZ. have fun everyone, it was most invigorating today!

Water too high for me, couldn't get to the location. Correct terrain rating.
Hmm. Didn't read last log but a DNF for me also. Would the CO mind checking or I can return and place a replacement?
I chose a rather deep channel to cross (keeping shorts dry was tricky) but was soon at GZ. The island was a bit tricky to get around. There was no sign of the cache at the obvious hint object. Not far away was a couch (standing on end), and next to it was an area of flattened grass. Hmmm. Maybe the replacement cache got muggled by the couch user(s) (there was a condom wrapper next to the couch).
Driving by here today. Had a very good idea where it would be based on past experience in this area - and it was right where expected. We will return another day suitably attired. Rodney & Iris.
up in the big city for the night on a few caching missions, from early on in the day my feet were wet with all the long grass I was cycling through at bottle lake so no need to change shoes to cross the stream to the island just went for it with no issues , no sign of the cache at the hint item so I had come prepared with a temporary replacement . left where I thought it should be its a 500ml jar , hope this is ok with the co , ( saves them getting wet feet) .will delete if the original turns up . time for a hot shower tftc
Up from Dunedin and prepared for this with a pair of very old running shoes and a towel for drying off. kotakuSI had given me a hint on how to approach the Island and that was spot on with the water only reaching the knees. A couple of likely hint objects and with an ever increasing hunting circumference I didn't come up with the goods. Maybe another time.
All quiet near GZ, check. Shorts and sandles, check. Low river, check Well almost low. Found the shallowest way in so off I went, and made a quick find. No worries though the hint from kotukuSI is one to read!. The way I went was a wee bit deeper, glad my legs were no shorter. Thanks for the fun.
Ms KR had an early Saturday start at work, so I dropped her off and did some city caching!
Thanks to the CO's for the hides. Cheers.

Enjoying a long and sunny weekend in Christchurch . CeeZeeWees and I gave this one a go last year with no find. Now we are back with the last log revealing more about the hide. Made it onto the island again (still very cold water!!) to make a straight forward find this time . On the return I enjoyed receiving strange looks wearing wet pants due to the water level being higher than the last time. TFTC
out and about with Alpenmilch80 to get this one, which we failed on last year ... so again. Cold water ... but a lucky look into the right direction made for an easy find

Out for an evening's wet entertainment with purdiepurdie; thanks for this cache TwoSharpe.
Accessing this island was certainly more of a challenge than the other (relatively)nearby island cache we had found earlier. We entered the water a bit further upstream than we needed to & found the water was somewhat deeper than expected. Great hilarity & that was even before we hit the island !!
We searched & searched; GPSr all over the place; darkness was approaching & and the tree cover increased the gloom. purdiepurdie eventually came up trumps - within 1 metre of the hint object.
Home to shower and warm up ! thanks for the fun.

TFTC. Out for a bit of Friday night inner city entertainment with kotukuSI.
We got thoroughly wet as the river was quite high.
It was getting a bit desperate as the logical hint location came up with nothing and GZ seemed to be too far away.
So KSI checked previous logs - coords a bit off and cache not at hint.
Anyway we both hunted and came up trumps.
I suggest future hunters look within 1M of logical hint object, don't look too much at GPS.
Thanks TwoSharpe for providing a great nights entertainment.

Nice to have a smilie here and this time took many eyes but it was an easy find. A great family Boxing Day activity
Found with wubu12, tregearp, avonadventurer and nonameyet during a midmorning Boxing Day walk.
TregearP and I looked for this one's precessor last Christmas with no luck, but with the additional information from a previous log looked slightly further afield than the hint suggests and soon made the find.
Thanks for getting this great location up and running again. TNLNSL, TFTC.

Startled an elderly man walking his dog as I made my way out of the bushes on the island and across the river. Success was had - cache not far from hint. Less than 50cm I guess. Rather wet shorts now but such a lovely hot day it was worth it. Thanks for the cache.
Not at ivy covered trees - had a good look:-(. But had fun getting here by water craft:-)
We have found a Cache here years ago.Womble Terry had the appropriate footwear and although it is not where the hint says,he fossicked about and finally found it..While plodging back to the Mainland a Muggle Lady stood watching him and asked "Did he lose something"..She then got a quick lesson in Geocaching..TFTH
I was walking through the park with a muggle friend this afternoon. It was a bit of a chilly day to get wet feet but I'm always up for a challenge. I dragged my friend here too and he found the cache but not at the hint location, still at ground level but not near any large trees. Picked up trackable. Thanks for the cache!
Down south once again for work and with bit of spare time to complete a number of tasks that I had set for myself. This included collecting a number of caches that have been sitting in my "to Collect" list for some time as they meet various requirements for challenges that I have set myself.
So wiith a nice and early start, it was always going to be a big few days caching and the work conforence that I was attending was still (damm it) going to be a priority.
So thanks to all the cache owners for the set ups and apologies for taking so long to log them but the logging of caches had to take a back seat to collecting the APE CACHE
thanks for the placement, thanks for the cache

So much fun and laughs finding this one and yes wet feet. Read previous logs and eventually found. Love this cache. And we left Mickey there.
Great spot for a cache on "duck island". Had to look at a few trees before finding cache. Thanks!
This had us stumped until we read some previous logs. Need your waders for this one!
Time to kill before this evenings Event....and a gz id prefer to approach during daylight. Found the previous Cache at this location so knew the best spot to cross. Easy as. Just over knee deep then up onto the island beside the old Cache gz...from previous logs knew coords were out so glanced around for the hint, spied it over yonder...quick find and sign then back over to the mainland. Quick as. Made sure to leave a few wet foot prints along the little hagley path just to confound anyone passing by....lol. Cheers. A fun Cache.
We did not do the first cache placed in the location, so did not want to miss this one. One team member volunteered - hmm, too deep here, too deep there- let's try the other side. Well not deep enough to jump down. Ok, back to the other side and maybe, if we, from here?? Finally found a good spot to go the first bit and struggled to find the cache. Nothing that matched the hint close to GZ, so widened the search. Still no luck and had to read the previous logs. Finally the solution: Ignore the Garmin, roughly 16m out was the hint object and the cache.
Where on earth is the Travelbug that we wanted to place here? OK, still at home... So have to search for another decent size container, we are not coming back to this location today. Thanks for the fun!

A bit late logging - my stupid phone deleted my offline lists (where I save found caches by date for later logging) and I kept forgetting to do it!
I had done the taxi driver thing in to town, and it was only going to be an hour or two so I thought I'd do a spot of caching while in the area. I knew I had three caches to check out that all involved similar terrain so decided that was my mission. This was the first of them. One other will require a return trip with equipment and/or help. I never did get the predecessor here as conditions were never quite right when I looked, so I was stoked to get this one. The tree cover here wasn't helping, but the hint did!

I missed out on retrieving the old cache near here, so I was very excited to see this one pop up in my search when I arrived in Christchurch for my fortnightly work visit.
I grabbed a beautiful white towel from the hotel, rented a Next Bike and headed to GZ as early evening started to work its way towards dusk. I grabbed a handy depth-measuring stick and set to work identifying the best route. Being on the short side, I was initially unsure whether I'd get away with only wet legs, but the water reached up to my upper thighs only as I made my way to GZ. Hadn't brought jandals so I bare-footed it through the undergrowth, trying to ignore the scurrying noises in the bushes. Unknowingly, I charged straight past (and over) the cache as I had a preconceived notion about Cabbage Trees (from the previous cache I suspect) and scoured the bases of 3-4 Cabbages before taking another look at the cache listing and retracing my steps. There it was! I returned back to civilisation triumphant, deployed the hotel towel and got back on my bike...
Thank you so much for the adventure! TFTC

It was a drizzly day in Christchurch. Not damp enough, so I had to chase some wet caches. Found at well described location. Thanks for another great Iron Maiden cache! Off to the "View of St Michael's..."
A beautiful day to be out caching. No muggles to trouble us. Found with Firewoof drawing the short straw and taking the plunge - good on ya. TFTC
[green] Out with Hankenstone on an island mission. Stopped off here - had a little bit of trouble identifying the right tree, but then it was all good. Now that our feet are wet, we headed off to the other island, View of St Michael. I already had that, but Hankenstone was very happy with the new find.
Now - to PaknSave to stock up for our 200+ cahe day tomorrow. AWESOME!!!

In town for the Mega event and of course one does as many caches as one can . The was one of the quality caches that we completed with Adventure Collectors. We had an awesome time , met many amazing cachers. I stripped of while Adventure Collectors had to explain to the muggles what we were a

Get to GZ and ....oh ok over there. Over I go luckily I had my jandels on. Tftc
Blast. Thought I was going to go for FTF until I realised the historical significance. I am not equipped (or dressed) for this one.
Hmmm, a new cache reasonably close, but still 30 minutes until I finished work for the day...I knew where the cache would be hidden, so I knew I couldn't make it to the GZ and get back to work and be "presentable" so I waited until I had finished work for the day and headed this way. Parked up reasonable closed, grabbed a pen...right....how do I approach this...well tomorrow is casual at work anyway, so took my shoes off and made my way across to the GZ. A short search later netted the cache, and a blank logbook....which what when I realised that the "pen" I grabbed, had no ink! Decisions decisions.... nothing I found nearby made any mark on the logbook, so I headed back to my car, retreived a pen that actually worked, back to the GZ, signed the logbook for a FTF finally! Right, time to wash my trousers! Thanks for the cache!

Well done Mr Womble. Hope your speedo's stayed dry. I'm impressed, basically less than 2.5 hours from physical placement... through publishing.... to FTF!
