Tftc, nice big box!

19-Feb-24
Such a windy day! We decided to trek in forest so we chose Main Ridge Track starting from Lowry Bay and ending to York Bay. We liked especially that main track. TFTC!

06-Feb-24
Great hide! Not that a big brown now but the sun shone right on things and got me a smile very soon after. Many thanks for adding to a grand day out!

24-Jan-24
GPS was way off so took a while to track it down. Was just about to give up when I spotted the hint object and of course it was easy from then on Smile tftc

16-Dec-23
Walked along the ridge and went straight past the cache without the numbers going down. The coordinates on this track so far, despite the variety in cache owners, are all spot on. Assuming this is the case, then I need to go sideways. But there are no decent trees here.So I walked to zero... and there it is! The rain was holding off for a spell so I did not need to hunch over the cache to keep the rain off. yay! Nice size too.---A few days ago I came up here to get a multi-cache as it was a multi-cache dot day. On the way up I thought I should check the map when I get to the cache and collect any trads on the way back. Well, I found the cache readily enough, but completely forgot to check for other caches. So today I decided I should go back. The forcast was for a cloudy morning with rain in the afternoon but in actual fact it was rain all day. It's raining out there. Should I go or postpone? It's going to rain again tomorrow.Oh bugger it. I grabbed my tramping raincoat and hopped on the bus. Turned out the rain was mild, just a light drizzle all day. Definately a raincoat day!Was a great walk and despite the rain I really enjoyed my time up on the ridge.

22-Nov-23
Spot on coordinates had this cache quickly in hand. TFTC!

Another great find on a lovely walk in Anzac Day. We also had to empty water out, but the log was damp but ok. TFTC

26-Feb-23
Very obvious once I stepped off the track, had to wait for some muggles to pass, and had to tip water out of the main container. Log was damp but usable. Not much action up this way over the summer. Cheers.

28-Sep-22
You almost know where it is without even navigating to it. Tftc!

26-Jun-22
Out for a stroll and cache with this morning. The hint certainly helped with this one as our GPSs had us a fair way away. The cache was quite full with water but the log was all good. TFTC. KTG

26-Jun-22
Out for a wander along this track with KTG... on our way to check on our cache. Cache was ½ full of water. And the log was wet. Thankfully it was R.I.T.R paper so it didn't matter too much. TFTC

04-Jan-22
Found on a very warm day during my walk along the Main Ridge Track as far as the Ferry Track down to Days Bay I've been meaning for a long time to pick up caches on this route
Located easily thanks There was lots of water in the outer container but the log was still dry
Thanks Zboy Wonder

Doing a few caches along the ridge track today, nabbed this one on the way.

06-Jun-21
This one took too long to find. Should have been easy! Thanks for placing the cache

04-Apr-21
Spotted Big Brown from the track ... still standing after all these years.

Log is a saturated pulp so replaced with a waterproof log inside 2 pill containers to keep this cache going as the CO does not seem to he very active lately

15-Aug-20
A good opportunity for a break from work on a Saturday and grab a few caches in the hills on a beautiful winter day.
Initially my app was pointing me slightly wrong, but a quick glance around suggested a likely spot - and there it was.

02-Aug-20
Found on a walk up through the MTB Park, over Lowry and down the ZigZag Track.

06-Jun-20

In Wellington delivering Zara to my Father-in-law. Extra time to catch up with family and friends included. A day to myself today so I'm heading to Wainuiomata for a walk.
Another snag and tag along this amazing bush walk. Cheers

Found today whilst out on a walk on the Main Ridge Track and beyond. Container in good condition and everything dry. Great area! TFTC

23-Feb-18
Good hint and find. Container was holding water so tipped it out. Don't know why but we have had lots of heavy rain. Logbook damp but okay.

06-Feb-18
Quick find for Quinn. Cheers

06-Jan-18
Easily found with the discription and clue on the way back down from the Mount. Tftc

27-Dec-17
This is a great example of hiding a cache in the forest. I stood on the track looking around considering where I might go in the general direction of GZ and an object caught my attention. Went over to investigate and it was harbouring the cache. Essentially cache sense tells you where the cache is without really needing the GPS at all! TFTC. Always appreciate the nice large containers.

09-Nov-17
Out walking the dog in the bush today, finding a few geocaches en route. Cache slightly exposed so hid a little better. Slightly damp logbook too, tftc!

23-Apr-17
We decided to do this walk today with the fairy half, Mycro Man and the little Micro Mycro Man thinking it would be a short steep climb to the ridge and then relatively flat across the top. We certainly underestimated our levels of fitness, the clay slope, and carrying a 9kg baby in front of me. We found each of the caches easily, but unfortuantely we didn't have a pen with us (after carrying everything else we completely left that behind - so we took photos of each cache as we found them). Thanks (we think) for the walk (we'll tell you tomorrow how we're feeling) and the caches.

16-Apr-17
On a roll of easy finds today! I hadn't read the description but it was in the obvious place. TFTC.

08-Jan-17
Found during a ridge run between Summit Road firebreak and Days Bay. Fun diversion away from the main ridge track. Quickly found as both the coordinates and the description text were excellent. Beautiful spot to step off the track - thanks for bringing me here.

26-Dec-16
Great spot, I always enjoy walking through open beech forests such as this. *TFTC zboy wonder, #9407*

Enjoying our walk along here, and pleasing to see such a decent sized container. Tftc

03-Sep-16
3 September 2016 15:18 1.05 km cache to car, but 1.25 km cache to farthest cache found toady so that's what I'll use for the DGSC challenge. Tipped a lot of water out of the container, but miraculously the log was nice and dry in its bag. TFTC

29-May-16
#2093 more to follow

09-May-16
There was one cache I especially wanted to find today so it was great there were a good number of others close by that I could attempt as a bonus. Even with GPS coverage being (understandably) less than ideal, I got close enough to see the theme object and make a very quick find.

20-Apr-16
GPS had me on the wrong side of the track, quick find after reading some logs tftc

16-Apr-16
We introduced some muggle friends from Christchurch to geocaching with a walk along the main ridge track from the Wainui Hill Lookout. They loved the bush and the hills and were intrigued by the geocaching. Relatively quick find after working out what side of the track to look. TFTC

27-Mar-16
Cheers

17-Feb-16
Found while on a Welly Climbs mission. Big and brown indeed.
A bit of huff and puff after the working day took me up to the main ridge and afforded me a view or two. Thanks for that.
Once at GZ the cache find proved to be straightforward. All in order; log signed, then safely re-hidden, just as found. Retrieved TB.

29-Jan-16
I decided I'd take a walk along the ridge track this afternoon. Started at the top of the Wainui Hill and went as far as the Ferry rd track turn off. I had intended to go a bit further but had run out of time. A nice quick find here.

18-Jan-16
#1665. Carrying along the ridge on the track to Mt Lowry. The girls and I were enjoying the walk under the shade of the beech trees as it was very warm today and good to be out of the sun. As we approached the GZ it seemed like there could be a lot of hiding places. So checked out the hint and quickly spied a likely place for the cache. It was found in the first place checked. Signed the dry logbook. Found a trackable which we removed. Replaced it with one I found during our trip up north. Returned the cache as found. Thanks for hiding it here.

12-Jan-16
Good chug up o the mtb for this one

07-Jan-16
Find #2517. After two days of cycle caching, today was all about Shank's Pony and a bit of a work out on the East Harbour Hills. Came up from York Bay, heading back to Lowry, a round trip of approx 10km. Not much of the stump left, I was expecting something bigger, but nice big cache container. Was surprised at how few logs were there but now see it's a recent placement. SL TFTC

#7427. 3TF. We enjoyed walking the Wainuiomata hills today. The place was all quiet while we were at GZ. Quick find. The cache was larger than a “small” though. It was in excellent condition, all nice and dry inside.

- Out of order

Went for a walk in perfect weather in the cool of the evening - a good time as there's a bit more birdsong in the bush than during the day. The GPSr was originally putting me on the wrong side of the track, but it settled after a few minutes and took me to within a few metres of GZ. A quick find followed in a logical spot. I also have no issue with the cache placement. Took just over an hour for the round trip walk from Puriri St to find both the new caches up here. Signed log, TFTC

Cache # 2,809 - FTF at 06:38 this morning. Smile Had grabbed the Welly Climbs one a few minutes earlier and close enough that I figured I would have time to get this too before heading back to work. A lovely walk, and an easy find. Dropped off a trackable to give one of the next finders today an incentive. TNSL. TFTC! And a favourite point for the FTF, as is tradition.

See my log for the multi so I won't repeat everything here.

I had GPS issues and the hint didn't narrow things down much.

I wonder whether the authorities would be comfortable with a new cache that distance off track, generally it is the expectation that people should stay on the tracks to avoid any damage to vegetation - I am aware that some of the older caches are off track, but we need to be careful with new ones that we do nothing to harm the good relationship which we currently enjoy with the local and regional authorities. It occurred that one of my caches does not conform to this and I will move it ASAP, I thought about doing so today but didn't want to cause any confusion by updating the coordinates when people may be coming up here to do the new caches.

10 metres might seem like a lot, but I would actually say this is closer to about 6 metres off the track, and certainly not in an area to cause any undue damage to the surrounding area. I see absolutely no issue where the cache is placed, and had no difficulty getting to it without stepping on any plants.
