And another one snagged and tagged. Cheers.Day 4 - Waimate - Dunedin with a few Geo stops along the way. And an event to end the evening.Zara, Toby and I are on an adventure, heading to the Dunedin Mega with some extra days along the way. Caught up with TaybeeNZ on 22 Oct for a day caching around Christchurch. Then made my way down to Waimati for the night. Arrived in Dunedin Thursday afternoon. Beautiful day Friday to cache around Port Chalmers. Mega Day was cold, wet and miserable and Sunday not much better. Sophia arrived on Sunday for a few days. Teamed up with TaybeeNZ for next three days touring the Catlains Monday, Stewart Island Tuesday and Milford Wednesday, then started making my way home, arriving Friday Morning.
After a couple of minutes, I finally found it. Unfortunately, the pen was out of ink, therefore photolog. TFTC Rapu Taonga
was not that easy, but yes - found it on the way to the penguins today.TFTF team bycycle
We have been here before on 2/8/2020 and at the ti,e we were completely defeated by this cache. It looks like it was definitely there at the time too to add insult to injury. We were quite frustrated.
Today was a completely different matter. M had found the cache by the time I trotted over from the car. Clever hide and we are glad this wasn't a repeat performance of 2020.

We are from Abilene, Texas, USA and have come to New Zealand to visit with a friend. We plan on going after different Cache Types while here.
Thank you, hill55 for placing this cache for all to find. We sign log sheets either as Love Cachers or LCers.
Driving over 50 miles to have...
Rusty barbed wire ripping through your clothes...
Curious rattlesnakes that come out of nowhere...
Itchy mosquito bites on every inch of your body...
A 40 mph wind gust blowing sand into your ears, nose and mouth...
Cactus needles getting stuck deep in your hands, arms and legs...
Thorny Mesquite trees scratching you up from head to toe...
Some or all of these things on a hike through 101° heat...
To sign your name or trade a toy...
SOUND LIKE FUN TO YOU?
It does to us, we're geocachers in West Texas! - {Taken from a Greater Abilene Association geocoin.}

I was on my way back from the yellow-eye penguin lookout.
I think I can remember stopping here before.
Cheers for the cache.

Easter family adventures. Stayed in Naseby a few nights. Used to come to Ranfurly a LOT growing up with both sets of grandparents and several Aunts and Uncles living here. Now a night in Oamaru before heading back home to CHCH. After settling in to our accommodation we came out here to see if we could see any penguins coming in....but alas no, we left it a bit late! oops. Nice quick find here though after a previous DNF a few years ago. Thanks.
A nice quick find thanks. And I do not know why I couldn't find it the last 2 times. Good to swap to a yellow smiley.
MS_KR are off for the weekend to Oamaru, to catch up on a few caches. The weather started out overcast but got better into the afternoon. We spent most of the day to the east and west of Maheno on a few back country roads. Mnay of the caches we very unloved, over 3 years in one case.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

You know you're addicted when you don't want to but you still do. Returning to this, what was so hard that we missed out on previous visits?! On the whole it was easy! Tftc
We looked for ages and ages checking in all the spots over and over again. We read all the previous logs to see if there were any hints there. And looked all over again. After over half an hour or even longer we had to call it a day. After nearly 8000 finds you would think we would know all the tricks but apparently not. Darn.
A lovely day to find some more caches before heading back to Christchurch. Found a safe park spot and went back. We both looked over many places and then on the second time round I spotted a possible. Yeh, yes I (Mrs C) had the cache in hand. How awesome very clever hide and great cache title. Thanks for the cache hill55.
Found with StreetWalkerNZ on day 3 of our 4 day trip to Oamaru and environs. The day started with a hard frost, but soon warmed up into yet another lovely winters day. The agenda today included Cape Wanbrow, Devil's Bridge plus a puzzle cache find which I needed for my final puzzle "dot" day .
We were coming from town, so drove on a bit to find some off road parking and walked back. Loved the gateway, and the nicely hidden cache was a quick find in the third place we checked. TFTC.

#18289. Heading towards the coast, we found a good park just around the corner (on some well manicured grass). Troodles quickly spotted a likely means of extraction. TFTC.
Was attending the NZ Motor Caravan Assn rally at the racecourse as the morning dawned sorta fine with the promise of showers commencing soon I decide to go cyclocaching before the rain set in.
After searching all possible easy placements I then went around them all again and this time found it by touch. TFTC hill55.

It has taken me almost 8 hours to drive up from Dunedin with all the stops and walks that I've done on the way. After spending a bit of time looking for this I had a pause to read previous logs. I renewed my search and quickly spotted a spot that I hadn't poked and prodded before and quickly found the well concealed cache. A nice hide.
Despite the last log being a DNF in April and the last found being from 8 months ago in March, we decided to give it a try.
Maybe partially lucky, but had it within a minute.
Thanks for the cache and greetings from tourists from Holland.

During our holiday in New Zealand we have visited both the North and the South Island. We saw a lot of highlights of this beautiful country, but there is so much more to see. So many highlights, so many caches! The geocaches showed us a lot of special and interesting places. Sometimes a quick find, sometimes we had to search longer. A few DNF's, but that doesn't matter. We loved New Zealand and we hope to come back some day!
Today we have found the cache "Gateway under the Antennas (North Otago)".
hill55, thanks for creating and maintaining this cache!

Passing here after having the luck of seeing a yellow eyed penguin come ashore.
Looked in every nook and cranny we could find but unfortunately failed here.

Looked in every nook and cranny, no find today. Didn't help that the farmer across the road topping his paddock was watching our every move on his towards town swipe.
Thought I had already logged a check on this. So had another look today and all is good. Cache is there..and has paper inside.
Oh this was a bit odd. Looks like the GZ has been Muggled well and truely. I found the rather soggy logsheet on the ground and took it with me - there was no sign of the container. Let me know if you want the logseet, otherwise the cache needs maintanence.
The (major road trip was about to begin) that was for the Oamaru Geofest trip in the company of HKCB and iammrwalker for a bit of a road trip across to the west coast, through Haast and in a roundabout way to Oamaru.
My trip stats were as follows: 617 caches (214 Puzzles), 3300kms, 500 litres of Petrol, 21 hours sleep, 100+hours caching time. THe weather was wonderful and apart from about a 6hour period on the sunday we had fine weather all the way and feel that we made a bit of a hole in the region.
Firstly thanks to all the CO's that put in the effort to to set up these caches and to all the CO's whose caches we did not find this trip, well we are already planning our next trip.
We worked hard at getting specific caches (especially the Geo Art around christchurch and hence our concentration on this area for the preliminary 24 hours. So after a couple of running repairs to the rental vehicle (fuses not working) we were off knowing that all ports could be charged and that sleep was for the weak.
Sorry about the copy and paste logs but that is what tends to happen with a number run of this size. What a day this was going to be and a chance to have a good look around the area. It was amazing to wake up after having afull nights sleep and not have that sand in the eyes feeling and sore back from sleeping in the back of a car. Starting the day off working our way along the coast, followed by a spot of inland caching before making it back to Oamaru for a bite to eat followed by a bit more caching.

Today our last day in Oamaru we spent mostly picking up local traditional caches, it was a wet day, but good for caching anyway. Today was also the day our team broke 4000!
thanks to all the CO's for placing the caches for us to find

Nice hide. Took a bit of effort by Gadget, but signed none the less. TFTC. Found with K.J.R and Gadget.
Came down this way from the North for the Oamaru Geofest, and decided to add a few more days to the weekend trip and turn it into a bit of a Mega mission, starting 5pm on Wednesday 18th and finishing 3pm Monday 23rd! Teaming up with Cats&Dragons for the first 24 hours then with Iammrwalker joining the team for the remainder.
Just a few of the stats for the trip were:
- 700 caches found, including 270+ puzzles (thanks to the Christchurch Geoart)
- 3300 km's driven, using over 500L of fuel $$$
- Just over 20 hours of sleep (about 4 per day on average), and about 100 hours of caching time.
Certainly a Mega Trip!
Day 5: With a good nights sleep for the first time this trip, we were up early and out the door for another full days caching. The goal for today was to cache our way down to the Moeraki Boulders and then see where the next cache lead us. One thing we were looking out for today was caches which hadn't been found in a long time.
Sorry about the cut and past logs, but that seems to happen with cache runs of this size!

I found this Geocache on a Geocaching mega mission along with Cats&Dragons and HKCB. With only just over three and half thousand Geocache finds I was very much the over achiever in training. We were in the South Island to support the Oamaru Geofest event, hunt down some Jasmar and D/T harder to find Geocaches, lonely caches (those not found in more than 6 months), virtuals and try and meet some milestone numbers. We signed the logs HIC, an abbreviation of our respective Geocaching names, (H)KCB, (I)ammrwalker and (C)ats&dragons. A huge thanks to all the CO’s who placed and maintain the Geocaches we found.
I arrived in Christchurch late Thursday evening having left straight from work and was picked up by my intrepid companions in our four wheel drive rental to find they had already grabbed about 270 finds in the previous twenty four hours. I wonder if the rental company would have still let us have it had they known we would travel 3300km in it before returning it four days later? Our trip took us to Greymouth via Arthurs pass, Ngahere, down the west coast to Haast across to Hawea, Cromwell, Twizel, Aoraki Mt Cook, Tekapo, onto the east coast up to Oamaru and back up to Christchurch via Akaroa and countless diversions and small towns along the way. We slept in the car for the first two nights, grabbing some shut eye between cache finds, taking turns to drive. We rented a small place in Oamaru for the other two nights and appreciated a bed to sleep in and a hot shower. It was an amazing trip, in which I discovered the South Island has some of the most incredible scenery in the world.

A busy varied day so far at the Oamaru Geofest.
A CITO, a wharf walk followed by a few town caches.
I then headed north to turn Friday's sad faces to smilies.
Returned SW to Weston to tidy that area up and now onto some new territory.
A pity that the A2O trail was closed for non-existent logging operations so the alternative was to drive around the outer rim of the trail to make many park and grabs.
The A2O circuit completed, time to head back towards Oamaru collecting a few Traditionals on the way.
Now in town and I ventured up onto the headland for a few more smilies.
A nice hide.

Quick find. Found whilst here for the geofest race with flipnz and RowenaD, thanks for all the geocaches everyone.
Found on Day 5 of our geocaching trip down from Tauranga to attend Oamaru's Geofest 2017; many thanks for the cache.
This cache was found during our Oamaru Geofest Road Trip and logged as TTT (Trans Tasman Team). Thanks you for the placement. Was a great weekend filled with lots of fun and caching of course.

I was down in Otago for the long weekend to attend the Oamaru Geofest. After flying from Auckland to Dunedin this morning, driving up to Oamaru, then registering for the event, I then headed North to find a few caches. Returned to Oamaru mid-afternoon and teamed up with Dunedin cachers CJ-Curry and Hevic for a couple of hours caching around Oamaru. Another quick find here, TFTC!
Spent some time with the Sallies looking about. Got it eventually, but great company to hunt in.
Found at the Oamaru Geofest, alongside Hevic and Vistra. A quick and easy find for Hevic as she went straight to the correct spot straightaway. I rather liked this one - maybe my country roots coming back to me, maybe not, but definitely points for this one. Cheers!
7675. Just about to give up when! That's it called by Richard. Thanks. Rodney and Iris.
Onze 2e vakantie in Nieuw Zeeland, we gaan dit jaar een weekje of 6 rondtrekken en dan met name het Zuidereiland. Onderweg zullen we regelmatig een cache loggen waarvan dit er ook 1 is.

Today we stayed at Oamaru. We love this town. Walking through the city and the nearby landscape, we also looked for some small caches. Thanks for hiding!
A bit tricky - and with a cyclist fixing her bike nearby not too easy. But managed to pretend that we were waiting for someone. TFTC
It is day three of my Oamaru solo camper van trip . After visiting Bushy Beach I pulled over here. A sneaky hide. I am pleased that I persevered.

Visiting Oamaru for a wee family 'long weekend' holiday.
Unsuccessful at finding Penguins off bushy beach we stopped here late afternoon as it was getting a bit dim....found something interesting with a pink gummy end (glue?) but no micro attached...not sure if associated with cache or not, but I thought it was a doer. Didn't have a torch to investigate hole to see if micro jammed in there & not attached to the bit in my hand....oh well. Next time!
