Further groundwork around GZ to fix storm damage means this is not a suitable place to re-hide just now, so archiving seems the best option.
Maintenance check: the area around GZ has been fenced off now for repair on the seawall following the storm in October last year. Deciding whether it’s worth replacing.
So happy to find this geocache! We live opposite it and have never had any luck until after the storm and my son picked it up on the beach when we were rubbish collecting! It’s back where you would tie your laces : )
The storm left its mark, but GZ is all good for the cache to return.
All good to go again.
All good to go again.
The MetService forecast of imminent storm surges along the south coast in the next few days has encouraged me to remove the cache meantime. I will leave it disabled for the next few days.
Today I have a big haul to achieve - a puzzle and a virtual for dot days, a small to get my smalls up to three per calendar date, 5 caches to get my finds up to ten per date, and a single cache for a streak. I found a small puzzle, so that licked three of the objectives, I'll stop by a lab cache, pick up a couple of general purpose trads, and do an earth cache for the virtual. It's a long ride home from work!
So the two simple trads where to be two on the cycleway between Petone and Wellington, but when I got home I discovered that one I found I had found before. Bugger! So I still have another cache to find. Back to the map... ... this one. It's close to home, and completed the south road. And last time I went looking for this it was missing.
Well it's not missing now! It's been added to! There's a whole telephone booth here now! Which leads to some obvious hides. Nope. Disappointing. It would be so cool to have the cache in the earpiece. The real cache was quickly found and signed. No one about although it is not a cold night. Dark though.
Many thanks for re-instating the cache.

All set for the fourth iteration of this cache. Please read the return instructions carefully. BYOP.
I have checked out GZ, where much damage was done in the storm earlier in the year. I have a plan to replace the hide within the next few days.
The whole area has been disturbed by another storm surge, and the wind telephone has gone for now. I will look at replacing the cache in the next month.
Seems it’s gone. Disabling for now pending getting time to check, later this week.
I'm pretty sure this one's gone. I found a red metallic bison cap in an inaccessible hole at the telephone.
Considering the exposed nature of this area I was pleasantly surprised to find it totally calm and moderately warm which made for a very nice evening stroll around here. The wind telephone was an unexpected find not having read the description in advance. The cache was a bit unexpected too . Thanks for bringing me here.
TwigNZ suggested a caching roadtrip to Wellington with Mar1sa, which sounded like an excellent day out of the house! - a novel idea considering that I'm still Working from Home...
The downside of this plan is that the first cache was 2+hrs from home which meant a much earlier start than I am otherwise used to.
We had an excellent trip, and Wellington really turned on the sunshine for us - Twig's "solar panel" definitely got some exposure
With no parking available as we drove past this one, we agreed to grab it on the way back.
We made a half-hearted search attempt, while reading the "bucket list board" and the explanation of the Wind Phone, before TwigNZ uttered those three words that make me weak at the knees... "I've found it".
Log was signed as Team MET (or just MET depending on log space) for Mar1sa, EtherLord and TwigNZ.

My day started at at 5.15am with a goal of caching down in wellington with Twignz and Etherlord Clan, the weather was amazing and we ended up with a few finds under our belt finished the day around 9pm and the shower and bed never felt so good as it did that night.
thanks for placing the caches and bringing us to the locations we visited. - sorry about the copy and paste logs

What a fantastic day to be out and about in the Capital (read Target-rich environment lol!) with a couple of great geo-friends. You just can't beat Wellington on a good day, and this certainly was one. Note to self: Time to start wearing caps again!
Part of our discussion on our journey down was centered around what our joint logging name would be for today, with the final choice being Team M.E.T (or sometimes just MET depending on log space) for Mar1sa, Etherlord and TwigNZ.
Trying to cache along the coast using a car is perhaps not the best way to do it, but when you're from 'out-of-town' then you have to balance the convenience of getting to and from home with the interesting times you might have trying to get a park near GZ lol! We did find that traveling generally East to West worked best for both Houghton Bay and Island Bay.
In this case, we decided to drive past this one to get to the caches available at the end of the road and then grab this one on our way back as parking would be easier. Once at GZ, we all hunted for a few minutes before something caught my eye. With the usual log admin sorted the whole thing was replaced as found before heading back to the car.
Thanks for placing this cache.

The wind telephone was a new experience and very cool! Luckily the beach cleaning muggles went about their business. Nice quick cache!
A quick find of a brand new cache container! The Wind Telephone is an intriguing concept. Tftc!
I noticed this cache had just had some owner intervention so I decided that made it a good time to attempt to find it. I managed to do this without any bother. The telephone story is certainly an interesting one. TFTC, RogerW1nz.
All set to go again. The original cache is probably still there, buried under tons of rubble. Read the description for updated details of the new hide, which is only 2 metres away from the original position.
In view of the reviewer’s note, I will have a look for this cache in among the storm damage rubble in the next week. If the original is not located, I will replace it.
Storm damage to the Owhiro Bay coast on 16 April has rendered this cache inaccessible just now. I will hopefully get to it in the next week, to locate the cache, or replace it.
(# 5741). I decided to grab a handful of caches in south Wellington today. Sat on the rock looking out to sea for a little while I waited for resident muggles from across the road to disappear. Once gone it was a quick find. Everything in order. While waiting I wondered whether the telephone close by was functional. Didn't try it though. TFTC
Checked due to two recent DNF’s. It is still there. Tweaked the description and hint a little. Happy caching!
Quick find thanks....
Interesting to read about the nearby Wind Telephone too...

I was passing by and sat down here to do some assessment of the information I had collected for the new Coastal Observation cache So a casual look around and there is the Lookout cache Thanks for indicating a useful sit down spot
Our searching just wasn't up to the challenge, and we had to keep moving on our walk
I departed Seattle on the evening of Tuesday July 2 to begin an eight day adventure in both Australia and New Zealand. I flew to Los Angeles and then on to Sydney landing early on Thursday morning. I am here for the OZGeomuster 2019 "The Gong" Mega event down in Wollongong as a Lackey geocaching ambassador. I will be spending the next four and a half days down in the Wollongong area, geocaching with a lot of the locals. Then I will return to Sydney and fly over "the Ditch" to Wellington where I will spend two days before returning to Sydney for the long flight back to the "States" and finally home to Seattle.
Day six of my eight day adventure and I arrived in Wellington late last night I will be hear for just under two days. My goal is to find the oldest cache in New Zealand, host an event to meet some local geocachers and explore the Wellington area via geocaching. Before I planned this side trip I reached out to a local cacher RogerW1nz to see if he would be willing to take me out to find GC46. He was willing to pick me up at my hotel and drive me around the Wellington area to find some caches.
This morning RogerW1nz picked me up from my hotel and we drove out to find GC46. On the way to GC46 we stopped to find a solved puzzle for a challenge I was working on. On the way back to the Wellington Central Business District to host my event we stopped to find another cache. After the event we met up with RogerW1nz's wife we headed off for lunch and grabbed the Mount Victoria Virtual on the way. After a nice lunch we headed off to find a few more caches after dropping off his wife. This was another quick and easy find while the CO drove me around to show me some more of the coastal sights. I signed the log book and then replaced the cache before we continued on our way. Thank you for placing and maintaining this cache for me to find.

Son and I were having trouble finding this cache using phone gps when a car pulled up alongside us and the driver asked "You're not looking for a geocache are you?" and a few seconds later son had the cache in hand. Enjoyed looking at the big waves, and the snow on Mt Tapuae-o-uenuku, the wind telephone and the "before I die" board nearby, and having a chat with a friendly and helpful geocacher. TFTC
KrystalKath, Tama & I are en-route from Taranaki to North Canterbury to take up our next assignment of seasonal work.
Today we're exploring Wellington, especially some interesting places with geocaches nearby.
I've previously stayed the odd night at Owhiro Bay Freedom Camping so this was for KK's benefit.
We were intrigued to see the Wind Telephone and what do you know a nearby geocache.
Initially I couldn't spot it and was ready to DNF it but KK had wandered off to the sea's edge. While waiting for her I took a couple of extra steps and there it was!
Loved the Wind Telephone and the "Before I die, I want to..." board. Great aspirations and dreams. Thanks for bringing us here. TFTC

We loved the wind telephone nearby, what a beautiful idea. I’d never have heard of it but for this cache so definitely a TFTC
A tiny scrambling on the rocks needed but nothing strenuous . Beautiful view tftc
Just waiting for the kids to finish at the gym and thought I’d enjoy the evening with a walk round the south coast
Found it on a bicycle-tour through the south of Wellington!
Thanks for the cache!

After taking some recycling up to the dump with my 8yo we decided to go and find a cache nearby. This one looked promising. We arrived on a sunny windy day. There were a lot of seagulls hanging around but they were not bothered by us. After a quick look around we soon spotted this cache and also looked at the old phone nearby. TFTC!
You need to clamber on the rocks a little bit. Took a bouncy ball and left some stickers! Plus got a travel bug. Our first one
Nice day for a walk. Found this beauty after a search from the sidewalk.

Second visit to this cache, this time at night so not in view of the muggles and I could actually search!
Relatively quick find, and I think the last of the Cook Strait and Lyall Bay Lookout caches for me.

Quick stop at GZ. Found at 2:00 PM. Thank you RogerW1nz for placing and maintaining this cache. Saw the phone booth nearby.
We are visiting from Toronto ON Canada to spend 25 days with our daughter who lives in Wellington NZ. We have planned a driving tour of both the north island and the south Island.

Found this afternoon with injeanious, we were out exploring the city after the Mega event. Some logs signed as team JeJe. Tftc!
The telephone box nearby was very touching and deserves a cache of its own. We searched a while before realising we needed to be away from the box. Tftc from team jeje
Well, this was a surprise, seeing I had replaced the cache last year, as the original was unable to be found. I suspected a storm had washed it away.
After reading blueicenz's log, I thought I had better check it out. And surprise, both caches are there, about a metre apart! The new one was better hidden than the old one.
So, I have removed the old cache container, with its fairly munted log. The "new" one is still in place.

Found while out in the area.
Cache not easily seen as tucked away and took two passes before something caught my eye. Had to sit a while on a close rock and wait my time and had to find a tool to get out from under its hard Cover. Got there in the end and GLAD to have ticked off.

Found with ShaggyH20. Was interrupted by someone. Could of been muggles, so finished our lunch before dashing out to grab it once coast was clear. Spotted it right away second time around. TFTC
A quick find, although big hands made this a tricky retrieval. Had to use some nearby "tools" to help. Log is a bit damp and tattered, but still usable. TFTC
A nice quick find, then time to enjoy the view - beautiful. I really like this part of the coast; I'd no idea there were wrecks here, thanks for the information. I clambered down and checked out the interesting telephone memorial. Thanks for placing a cache here.
Have been meaning to do this one for a while. Got out there today. Relatively quick and easy find. Very interesting phone memorial
#5364. I was out this end of town tonight to find a couple of puzzle finals. Decided it was time I checked on this one again. I had a quick look here some time ago but it was too muggle infested at the time and so decided not to risk giving away the hiding spot while searching. Tonight at dusk there was no one around and all the houses nearby had closed curtains. So a good time to search. As it was, it took no time at all. Saw it pretty much straight away after checking out the nearby telephone box memorial. Signed the logbook and replaced the cache as found. Thanks RogerW1nz for hiding it here.
Located with MapleSyrupGirl on sunny New Year’s Day afternoon. Beautiful outlook, fantastic cache.
After finding a cache in Happy Valley it was a perfect chance to go for a stroll around the bays on a lovely evening as the sun was setting.
DNFed this before and I can see why: though I spotted it fairly easily this time (after having had to take a sudden interest in a bit of driftwood to disguise my activity when a muggle came past!) I had some difficulty getting at it and in returning it as found.

Yes, my shoe laces did need doing up!!!!! I liked the paua shells on the rocks. The sea was certainly calmer that the last time I drove around the southern cast. TFTC
I came out here to drop something off for work. Ok, so I was actually heading for Lyall Bay, but this was sort of on the way. I stopped for a while to enjoy the scenery, quickly located the cache, and was on my way.
The cache is in good condition. All nice and dry.
Thank you

A chilly soggy early morning visit to the south coast for a quick find with SJT_NZ. Challenge caches always lead to sacrifices and We're after a couple of challenge caches. Thanks to the CO for sorting out the cache. And it's off to the South Island for us.
