Logs
TheLandGirl and I are down from Auckland to complete the Queen Charlotte track over 4 days. Day two was a 12km hike from Furneaux Lodge to Punga Cove and the weather was stunning for the day, although quite chilly in Punga Cove. We took a quick detour to the Antimony mines and made a quick find of this cache while there. TFTC!
TFTC, walked up from Furneaux Lodge. Disappointed there is very little to see.
Gave this one a go after dinner but ended up taking the wrong branch it seems. Too far to go too late in the evening.
Speaking to a local it sounds like the best way to approach is via the stop bank...I left off up the true right of the stream and quickly ran out of track

Had to make an effort here and it is well worth the wander. The gps is a bit compromised in the bush and we found the cache 15 metres from gz, back down the hill very near a doc sign in a kanuka tree but they are similar to manuka just much bigger. Cache was in a mess, log was soaked to mush so removed, dried out the bag best we could and replaced with a waterproof, back into wee container, lid on tight and rock to top off. Tftc
My school was doing its annual activity week and this time I was visiting to the Queen Charlotte Sound and like the absurd geocacher I am, if we stopped near any geocaches I was definitely going to be trying to finding them.
On the third day of our trip, most of our group went on a little morning walking down this mining track to see if we could find any mine shafts or reminisce of an old mine, we eventually didn't find anything of interest but we had a great time getting there anyway.
Yesterday a smaller group of us had established the path in which we needed to take, we had also established that we would have to travel over a small river crossing to get there, but today we had a huge group of people walking with us and so for everyone to get across the river took some time and a lot of people got their shoes and feet wet to some degree with a few especially clumsy people falling in and getting soaked. Once everyone got to the other side we continued to venture the path in search of the mines. When we got to the sign near the geocache, the whole group stopped for everyone to catch up, I asked one of the teachers which of the trees in front of us was the hint object and they were able to point it out for me. After a bit of procrastinating and once everyone was moving forward, I snuck around the area hoping no one look back and ask questions. Luckily it didn't take too long to find the geocache and no one looked back and saw me. TFTC, a fun quick geocache to find while I was travelling in the area, it made me feel quite stealthy!!

Holidaying in the area, and decided to grab this cache which took me up a track I've never done before. Got my feet a bit wet, and spent a bit of time puzzling over the power pole up here for no apparent reason. A very cool and interesting track. Cache was a bit wet inside, but the log was dry inside its bag. Cleaned and dried it out which should hopefully help. Well worth the detour from the QC Track. Tftc!
Walking back from a day trip to Ships Cove I was reading up on this one and was flabbergasted to see that there were no logs. Unbelievable considering how many people are out and about on the tracks and how long ago the cache was placed. My son was keen to go so he dashed ahead and dropped off all excess gear at the miners camp and met me by the DOC info boards at the start of the side track. I managed to keep my feet dry while doing the water crossing (wearing gaiters helped) and my assistant soon had the cache in hand. He really needs to get around to getting himself a user name. I would liked to have had the time for the mate of this cache further up the valley but it was already quite late.
