A big thing

I once bought one of these for $5. I kept the medicines in it when the children were small but then I didn't know what else to do with it and gave it away. That was before caching! A favorite point for an enchanting cache on an enchanting walk. Thank you holymu

A nice quick find, and Yes an enchanting place Thanks for placing your cache. Ms_KR and I are off on cruise up to Nelson and Picton. Today we cruised around the back country near Murchison. The walk into the Braeburn waterfall is lovely and a reccommended wander! An overcast and cool start to the day, followed by a few showers later on. Occassionally signed MK+KR on cache logs, and apologies for the generic logs. Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches.

It is indeed a beautiful walk. This morning, we decided to go for a short easy loop. The tree cover was really pleasant, as the sun was getting hot today. All good at GZ, both container and logbook were in good condition. Thanks for placing this here.

Out on a caching expedition. I was expecting to get wet but thankfully the Met Service got it wrong.
This is a top notch bush walk. The trees are magnificent and the bellbirds were full of song.
Find #6 on the loop walk. One that I enjoyed immensely. I always love finding a USA Regular. I’ve left it less exposed than I found it.

What a fantastic end to a great walk. I believe geocaching should be family friendly, and that means caches big enough to hold treasure. I believe this so much I even do it at the end of tough tramps, as there are some little kids (like me) who are quite capable of that level of exercise. And of course, this is a beautiful bit of native bush.
Yeah, okay, okay, enough raving. Gets a path tag and a favourite and a big fat smiley. Many thanks for a great walk, Holymu.

Taybeedragon and I have been to Nelson a number of times lately, and frankly, getting bored with it, despite that there are a gazillion finds to to find there. So we headed to St Arnaud instread, starting with Lake Rotoroa.

25-Jul-20
This has been an enchanting walk with beech forest, goblin forest and an awesome waterfall chucked in for good measure. Quick find here to a good size cache to finish off this walk. Thanks heaps. Fav from me. Cheers

The Seagnoid, Toby and I are out exploring again today with Tasman Lakes on the Radar.Left home at -2 deg frost to get to Lake Rotoroa at a balmy 2 deg and slowly got warmer as the day progressed. It stayed cool but fine. Enjoyed walking around a couple of native bush tracks. Another great day.

11-Jul-20
Visiting the South Island as the grown up kids are on Uni holidays. Heading up to Nelson today collecting some caches on the way. Wonderful sunny day although cold and frosty to start with. Quick detour to Lake Rotoroa and a walk to Braeburn waterfall. All the geocaches were close to the path despite the marked track on the geocaching app. Found all the caches bar one so may have to return sometime. Thanks

Reasonably quick find. TFTC.

Due to NZ being at Alert level 4 and some people insisting on continuing to geocache and put others at risk I am disabling my caches until such time as it's safe to resume this activity.

Any logs I receive for finds during this time will be deleted. I don't care anymore about YOUR safety than you obviously do but I do care very much about others and want them to be safe so please do NOT look for any of my caches while they are disabled.

In the meantime, there's always plenty of puzzles to be solved or created but above all PLEASE STAY SAFE EVERYONE!

Having 3 nights away alone up here at the Lake - looking forward to plenty of walks on all the fantastic paths around here.
Today I'm heading up to Lake Rotoroa for a look and walk the tracks and a few caches along the main road as I go.
After grabbing a couple of caches up by the lake edge I escaped down here for a peaceful wander through the trees... I was not disappointed - what a lovely walk.
Here is a suitable container for a TB drop - hope they don't end up here for ages?...

No flying day again at the Hang Gliding nationals, so decided to go for a walk. A bit of a wander to some obvious features, and a pleasant surprise at the container. Thanks.

On a Sunday drive and walk or is that just a different way of saying I went caching today. First time I have walk this trail. I would recommend it to everyone just a very lovely little walk in the bush. TFTC

Last of the day for this walk, thanks Holymu and Hazedarus for placing these caches to bring us out here.

Jo had Monday off, so we decided a trip somewhere was in order. St Arnaud or Nelson? We decided on the former and in retrospect were glad we did. The weather in Blenheim was average, but it was not bad up here although we were prepared for the worst.
The target area was Gowan river, the top of Lake Rotorua, Braeburn walk and track and a short walk in St Arnaud on the way home.
A good mix of PnGs and walking ones, 40 or so for the day. Thanks everyone.

Spent a few Days traveling through the Nelson Lakes National Park and today was time for the area around Lake Rotoroa. Had fun hiking the 4WD Track and the Braeburn Walk.
What an amazing Cache!
And my first Ammo Cache. Luckily had some Trackables with me so this Cache is now home to a new TB!
Thanks for hiding and caring!
And what is even more exciting that this was my 200th found!!

Continuing our mini tiki tour of the area today we were heading to the lake for our last night perfect chance to grab these
After spending an awesome day swimming and kayaking it was time for an evening stroll. How we love ammo crates. Hard to miss

Cool to find something large for a change

There is something about a beech forest that soothes and rejuvenate me. Which makes up for the frustration of my GPS leading me in circles

Yup ammo cans make the best caches. Big and dry!

I was looking for somewhere to go with my nearly eighty three year old dad. I have looked at this track many times but have never made the effort or time to come and have a look at it. Well today sorted that out.
It was drizzling at home when we were ready to go, so we packed the rain coats and a picnic lunch and away we went.
We decided to have lunch at the lake foreshore. Thank goodness we have insect repellent in each of our vehicles as we sure as anything needed it today. The sandflies were thick and hungry. I am not really sure how many sandflies we ate, but I am sure a few got consumed. Another car of young ladies arrived and I tried to tell the sandflies that they would be much tastier than us and that they should all fly over there and have a feast - they didn't listen.
After lunch we headed along to the start of the track. I am very pleased to say there were no sandflies to be seen or felt. There was one other car near the start of the track but we did not see the people. Maybe they were on the other part of the loop as we were heading up they may have been heading down.
The weather was overcast but there was no rain or even drizzle while we were out walking.
This is such a pretty bush walk, I loved all the different greens of the trees and ferns. The ferns were so healthy looking.
The cache was in perfect condition, so much so that I left the trackable that I had just picked up here. The grandkids would love to see what is inside this cache, so when we bring them to do the walk I will remember to bring their trade bag so they can do some swapping.
Thank you for placing this cache and thank you for the smilie. A favourite from us

A nice large container - should be easy enough to find. Andy and I both started searching and I had just climbed on top of some roots to check while Andy looked under when I heard a telltale rattle and see Andy with the cache in hand. He opens it up while I look on and hands me the log to sign, then starts doing a jumpy dance and takes off. He had just been stung by a wasp. A cautious approach back to the cache and he informs me that I am standing above a nest. I hand the completed log back to him and make my way back to the track with both our packs, just in case Andy has to make a fast retreat after rehiding the cache. In fact he had to retreat a distance to put everything back in the tin, then a quick hide and he was out of there. tftc

First time taking my 6 year old nephew caching and he was sooo excited to find this 'treasure chest'. He was very motivated to find the rest of the caches along this lovely walk! TFTC

On a week's walking and caching holiday with trifolia argentea we aimed for 100 caches. Thanks to all cache owners.

We broke our drive to ST Arnaud with a very pleasant walk with lots of caches in great surroundings. We admired the place and the cache itself and exchanged some swaps. This is a favourite.TFTC

We’re really enjoying the walk. More muddy patches after the west coast has basked in sun for a month than we expected but I guess the thunderstorms have affected this area. Makes it seem even more like Camelot. Found easily once we read what we were looking for. NINO TFTC a fav for us

16-Nov-17
Superb container tucked away in second obvious place we looked. TFTC and greetings from the UK

Found on way to Murchison for the weekend

29-Jul-17
A revisit to this container which I think I saw being passed over to the C O at an event of mine over in Marlborough. Took me a few minutes to find which place the cache was, and wasn't, and was soon signing in the logbook. A few swaps in here too for those that want them. Replaced as found. T F T C holymu

This weekends intentions were discussed earlier in the week mrs capperz was heard to say that she wanted to go on a trip to the lake. As I've already found most of the caches out Rotoiti way I assumed she meant Lake Rotoroa and promptly grabbed a P Q and started a few planned forays into that local area. As it was we had a great day out with a frosty start, snow-capped vistas and double figure cache finds so a successful day all round. We walked the lovely Braeburn walk loop to the waterfall, I found my last 2 on Rotoroa lake edge and grabbed a couple of ducks, along with a Tiramisu (Tireaumea duo). Hot chips for lunch and lashings of flat white from St Arnaud.

What a great collection! Anyone who's got kids who love toys come check this out!

25-Feb-17
Our first geocaching trip to the Braeburn area and what a choice of caches. A driving tour which you can do in a normal car and a fantastic walk to a waterfall. We. Do not have the equipment for the 4x4 track today.
We decided to do the driving tour first and then finish with the waterfall walk. We loved this nice short trail to a waterfall we didn't know existed. For this we were following recent visits by Paddle Chick so no digging out was necessary.
We found the nice big ammo box where we expected. TFTC.

05-Feb-17
Didn't read the description before hand so wasn't expecting an ammo can. Nice walk to this point. TFTC holymu

A quick easy find of a nice big dry cache at an obvious location. TFTC

02-Jan-17
Once we got the right obvious feature it was a quick find for us. We were hoping to find some travel bugs but no joy today

14-Dec-16
Found while on afternoon walk. It took me a fair while to find this one, but I was determined to finish with a find. With a lot of possible places, and with my GPS bouncing around it was tricky, but eventually I got there. It's always nice to see this type of container. Ive probably only ever seen half a dozen ever. TFTC TFTS TNLN SL

Gosh the GH is a generous guy and this was the perfect place for such a good sized container like that. Nice off track hide.

This track is one of our favourite day walks when we visit Lake Rotoroa. Great cache thanks!

Found with NZDi. When NZDi asked what geocaching plans I had made for the weekend last night, I admitted I hadn't made any because the weather looked like it was going to be s#!t. She said it can't be s#!t everywhere, so I started looking at the weather forecast. Nelson looked pretty good, but we have been across there about three times in the past two months so that didn't hold any attraction. So I checked out the Nelson Lakes and they looked pretty good also, and as they are one of my favourite places in the Top of the South, I started working on a plan for the day.

The plan was to do the Lake Rotoroa side of the Porika Track as we had done the Howard Valley side late last year, then do the Braeburn Loop Track, then a few unfound between Lake Rotoroa and St Arnaud and finally check on some previous DNF's on the road between the Lake and Blenheim. Altogether we had a successful day with all targets met, 32 finds, no DNF's and a bonus FTF. The only hiccup of the day was logging the caches up to half way around the Braeburn Loop Track as the 16th of October, in stead of the 15th, an honest mistake and one which I wasn't the only person to make today.

After achieving our target on the Porika Track and having lunch (in the car) at the lake front, we came here to complete the waterfall loop walk. The sign at the lake front said this takes three hours, but the sign at the track start says one and a half hours. We did it in one hour forty minutes while caching along the way.

At the 'Junction' we made the decision to go anti-clockwise which brought us to here for our next cache. C:geo pointed me in this direction and due to some missing camouflage, the cache was slightly exposed. When I exposed the cache further, I recognized the container as one that was gifted at a recent local event in Blenheim. When I opened the cache, I had to recheck who the CO was, no it wasn't 'the Seagnoid', but going by the contents, it would have been an easy assumption to make due to the quantity of swag inside.

With the log signed the cache was replaced and the camouflage readjusted so that the cache could be no longer seen... that is, until the next bit of wild life wanders past and gets curious.

My last cache for the day on an excursion with Isis58. She had already found this one - - - but it didn't take me long to track it down. Certainly a good spot for an ammo can. It sure is an enchanting walk. Thanks for bringing me back to this track.

18-Sep-16
Wow, how time flies! Over three years since I found the older caches on this walk. Today was a great day to be back. Although it was raining in Nelson when we left - Number 1 son and I - the forecast for the Nelson Lakes area wasn't too bad and it turned out to be OK. Cloudy, cool but no wind or rain, so perfect walking weather. Really enjoying the walk so far and here I thought I'd spotted a good hiding place. But the CO had found one better. A classic cache indeed. TFTC, Biggles.

11-Sep-16
It was only on approach that the cache listing was read - and the cache size noted. We set off with only GPS, phones (for photos) and a pen - no swops to add to the ammo can. Mrs SoBad did feel silly as she did know the CO had aquired an ammo can from the recent event but had not put two and two together.
SoBad spotted the spot the cache just had to be and left Mrs to do the paperwork as usual.
It is an enchanting bushwalk and the new series certainly was the reason for the return visit today.
A favourite for the series, the cache and the name.

We went from here to have a picnic by the lake. It was also an enchanting place - until a million sandflies arrived!! None on the track. We didn't learn from experience as exactly the same thing happened last trip.

I decided to head this way from the junction and see if I could beat Bum (who I still thought was ahead of me). When his signature was in the log I thought I had chosen the wrong direction. Very enchanting and even more magical with the snow falling. I was very grateful for the pencil in the cache as my pen did not like the freezing cold one little bit and refused to write. Retreated from here to see if there was an empty log book in the other direction. An easy favourite. TFTC #9116

Town was sunny, great day for a drive. Which turned into a snowing drive from Hope Saddle to here. Stayed snowing while I walked.
Magic, looking out at white ground and branches. Did not stop the awesome bird chirp.
Good to have some shelter from falling snow while log signed
Thanks a lot holymu
