After completing a personal challenge in SA of finding 10,000 physical caches there we are now heading from Beachport back to Portland aiming to grab a couple of caches along the way on roads not normally traveled if the weather permits., Ash Wednesday was certainly a terrible time .We lived in the street where five firemen sadly perished trying to fight the fires. This really drummed it home. Here we simply followed the GPSr to gz where happily the cache was found nice and quickly. We added our name to the log book before returning everything as it was. Many thanks for the cache.
Travelling with iluvtrekking from our home state of WA on a SA caching foray. Staying in Robe for a few days to grab some find. Drizzly winters day as we range from Robe to outlying areas. Thanks for the hide. LNCU??
Travelling with richlink on our Annual Caravan Geocaching road trip, using geocaching as our guide. We are now based in Robe, exploring the wild coastline and beautiful countryside. TFTC. ?? LNCU

really late log. found at Millicent mega. 2020Found with Mogni. I think this is the most changed trip in the planning stage that i have ever been on. The " original trip " was supposed to start on the 31st of dec but at the start of December life changed and the trip was now starting on the 26th of December and all accommodation that had booked cancelled and now see what else is free on the earlier dates. A major readjust of plans and got 1/2 the trip booked before the next curve ball came in to alter the plans again. More adjusting the plans again and i realized i could host 2 CITO's in 2 different LGA's in Victoria. What we do to qualify for Victorian challenge caches. Also i got my 20, 000 cache over in Victoria in this trip. It was decided in the end that the 4x4 was going to be the vehicle for this trip that way we could go and target all the caches that you never get, the ones down the sandy/rocky/dirt and forestry roads/tracks. We left Adelaide and headed to Casterton for a couple of days, then to Budj Bim National Park ( and saw 5 koalas in the camp ground high up in the trees ), then over Heywood, a night in Mount Gambier plus there attended the 3rd CITO of the trip before sending a few nights in Millicent and then finally home. Over 250 caches found plus 86 lab caches. Mogni also got her 11th D/T loop. I also got 3 more Victorian LGA's up to 20 finds minimum for another Victorian challenge cache. If the cache was broken/eaten/smashed it was replaced with a new container and if the log sheet was wet it was replaced and if the log was full or almost full extra log sheets were added to the cache.
The great Geoventure 2020 tour....take 2...which is of course now in 2021 Once again it myself and AnyMules doing things that not many sane people would attempt. [:o)]
Day 8: With a break in the weather and some sunshine we decided it was time to go for a walk in the Penola Conservation Park Then it was a cache of just following the trail of unfound caches.
* If anything was particularly interesting then there will be a comment
Here.. I missed the find but Anymules soon had it in hand after looking in the obvious spot.
otherwise we found all the caches we looked for and they were in good condition.
Only one of the three goals from last year achieved. So once again trying and fill my calendar with multi-caches and complete loop 11 again this year. [^] For my third goal I will try and get my DNF numbers from over fifty to single digits. That should keep me busy again this year! [:o)]
***Thanks maccas59 for putting out this cache and maintaining it for our enjoyment. ***

This weekend, I headed to the Limestone Coast / south-east for cave diving, but also to find a few geocaches when time allowed. It was only a quick weekend travelling to Mt Gambier via Bordertown on Friday, and returning Sunday via Millicent and Kingston. I was able to fit in a visit south to Port MacDonnell on Saturday, and a few other small detours around Mt Gambier.
Today, I returned back towards Adelaide, detouring through Glencoe, Mount Burr, Millicent, Furner, Kingston, but then back tracking towards Keith due to a grass fire cutting off the Coorong Road.
After driving past here and making a stop, I managed to find the cache reasonably quickly. The cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks maccas59 for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

I had come down to Millicent for the long weekend and today it was organised to come caching with gridge98 and it turned into a big day with 74 caches found. [^] We started in Millicent headed towards Rendelsham, Southend and Beachport where we grabbed some lunch before making our way to Furner. Had a fun day finding lots of different caches with a few high terrain ones which is always a bonus for me.
I remember Ash Wednesday and the devastation it caused.
Thanks for the cache maccas59.

Arrived here, the cache was easily found and is all good
Today JJ52 and I set out from Millicent together to find all the caches around south end and beachport, we thought it would take all day but we were done by lunch time so we headed over to kangaroo inn to find all the caches in the area before attending my event back in town. Almost 80 finds for the day.
Thanks for the cache

Spending a week in Robe so touring the area.

Mr Tardis was heading home from the Southeast and stopped here to find this one. I found the cache in the first place I looked - don't you just love it when that happens?
I certainly do remember the second Ash Wednesday, I remember looking up at the Adelaide Hills and seeing most of it emanating smoke into the sky.
Signed the log. Thanks for the cache maccas59.

Headed out with Sylken today for a full on FREEZING day out and about! The plan was to collect more smilies before the wet weekend but we also collected some sad faces too today.
Not all caches were as they first seemed.

I do remember Ash Wednesday. I was in my last year of high school (over on Yorke Peninsula) when I heard all about it on the news. My heart does go out to those that been affected by bushfires. TFTC
Whitepaws9 and I chatted and laughed along the dirt road in my car. Some of them were hard to find but we managed.
Luckily no snakes were seen.
Found it nice and easy.

I cant make it for the Mega so have come down for a few days to clear a bit if the map. TFTC
Suscoe enjoyed a day out in the Millicent area today.
We had a great day out with lovely weather again.
The roads were quiet and the caches were in good numbers.
It is dry but beautiful country with the green of the pines and the colors of the cattle and sheep and the dry grass.
Thanks to maccas59 for this hide, we remember this day and what happened across Victoria.

I remember Ash Wednesday [:o]
I was riding the pushbike around Adelaide in 45 degree heat when the southerly change hit,
and blew me back home
Yep !! I was a bit mad,
and a lot fitter back then [^]
You couldn't see the Mount Lofty Ranges from towne due to the dust !!
But eeryone knew that something was going horribly wrong up there,
and as it turned out ...
... down here too !! [:o]

Very quick search in another overgrown area, won't bother stopping for any more from this CO.
Ash Wednesday was a tragedy and hopefully it will never be repeated. I was at Primary school and I remember being sent home early due to the heat... no air conditioning in those days.
Thanks
Thanks
I remember it well. I was at mums with my girlfriend Mandy at the time. It was bloody hot and we were in the lounge room with the big air con on. Mandy scooped out oranges and filled them with ice cream - and put them back in the freezer. We watched the news reports that night eating the oranges. Memories.
Thanks to maccas59 and **clear skies** from TeamAstro. [^] Cache the planet!

As CPWanderer & I had decided to make use of the long-weekend by basing camp at the local Caravan Park in Mt Gambier.
Having previously completed some of the Ferner series,
we slotted today into the calendar to complete these caches.
Thanks for the hide maccas59

Grabbing some more of these Furner area caches on my way home from Mt Gambier today...a pleasant day for it...
I remember the Ash Wednesday fires in the South East very well...I was nursing at the Millicent Hospital during this time and looking after the burns victims following the fires...scary stuff...

#11557. Day 2 of our holiday and today Robmc and I head from Hamilton, over the border and on to Robe for a few days. Naturally we stopped to find a few caches along the way.
A quick detour a short distance off to the side and we spotted a likely suspect. Yep, spied the cache, signed the log and continued down to the road to the next one.
Thanks maccas59

Day Two of our holiday, BettyBoo3747 and I headed towards Robe from Hamilton.
Got up late-ish and slowly made our way across to SA, caching as we found them on our trail.
The Ash Wednesday fires didn't seem that long ago, I was surprised to see it was 1983.
A quick find just out of the car.
Thanks, Robmc.

With the full compliment of the team today we are back in the South East for some caching and family time at Robe. Geohound has loved being back in the country. We've seen Furner in a whole new light today usually we are here in the winter playing hockey in the cold and rain TFTC it's been a great day and still lots more to come back for!
Pleasantly surprised here, cache was easier to find than I was expecting it to be. TFTC
There are couple of 1983 stories at Amphibian Central. Sallymander is from Conmurra.
Out for a drive around the SE with Freddo & Waldron [^]
This was one of the fun finds
Cheers

The fires through rural SA are a terrible thing, when we see big old trees on the side of the road all burnt out it is a solemn reminder how vulnerable we are.
Hopefully we don't see another tragedy like Ash Wednesday again.
Thanks maccas for the cache.
