I was keen to get this cache last time I was passing but lost motivation with the pouring rain. Today it was fine and I enjoyed wandering over to the cache. It's not hidden by pine needles anymore but there are lots of fallen branches around that will block it from the view of any non-cachers. Thanks for the cache!
On our tour we drive through different landscapes and learn a lot about the history and origins through lab caches, virtual and earth caches. We walk through nice villages, enjoy the food and coffee or smoothie and also like to look for traditional and bonus containers. We would like to thank all the owners for the caches and send warm greetings from the Moorhelmi from Germany.
I'm down from Paihia for the Dunedin Mega event. We did a lot of caching around there. Then we went down to Invercargill for three days before driving to Middlemarch for the old Donovan cache. Today is our last geocaching day as we head back to Christchurch. I'm spending the weekend there with my cousin before flying home on Sunday. A large letterbox right by the roadside was too much to resist. We parked up and I headed off to grab it as my buddy had found it on her way down. I quickly found it after a bit of weaving around logs to get to the right stump at gz. Thanks for the hide
Stopped here especially to drop off a trackable that wants to meet up with penguins around the world. Unfortunately, though I did the physical bit I forgot to do the technical bit of dropping it off. Oh well, I got another smilie and another letterbox and another large cache. Aren't they annoyingly few and far between?!Thanks for the great hide .
Quick stop on the way north.Woke up to another fabulous sunny day. Day 8 and running around tidying up wants and needs in Dunedin before heading back to Christchurch. Back to Kittykatch and Grimraider. Finally back in NZ and this time for a Mega. Starting in Christchurch before heading south. Lots to see and do with Kittykatch and Grimraider. Will be joining with others as the days go on.Thanks for getting me out and about hill55
Dunedin MegaWe met some cachers coming out and oicked up th tb they had just dropped. Out caching with GrimRaider and Joolay. GrimRaider, Joolay and I are in NZ for the Dunedin mega event. It is great to be back to see more of this beautiful country. Thanks for hiding this cache hill55
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I live full-time in our caravan travelling around NZ, visiting the places we want to visit & doing the things we want to do and fitting in a bit of Geocaching here & there we had been attending the Geo Toroa Mega Event in Dunedin & were now heading north we stopped for lunch at this rest area & did this Letterbox cache while here turned out to be an easy find, log-book completed & replaced as found were also pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally TFTC ... TN:LN:LS this was #6,407 for us!
Heading south to Dunedin with geofriends for the Mega weekend and stopping for a few caches along the way, combined with a leg stretch or two.Loving the beautiful green landscape and visiting all the small towns.Always enjoy finding a good letterbox cache.Thank you, hill55, for placing this good hide.
Thanks for placing and maintain for our enjoyment Found with Snickersallan, Wollaston and chamadVisiting Christchurch for a few days, now heading down to attend Geotora Mega
Outnabout with Chamad, Snickersallan & Bluewattle on my first ever trip across the ditch. After a week of caching around Brisbane and at events last month with other Geo friends, I couldnt pass up the opportunity to hop on board for a NZ Mega adventure. Another great day for caching. TFTC hill55
Found using the traditional method of letterboxing. Tiz13 used the GPS and we were pretty much at GZ at the same time. It's fun not to always be following an arrow on my phone. Found during the Dunedin Mega Tour by Tiz13 and Snips and Co.Thanks for the cache hill55
Finally the time has come - The GeoToroa Dunedin Mega!JustLookingOO has arrived in Christchurch from Wellington and we are driving down together, hunting down some multis on the way. This was one of my must-do caches on the way down as I still needed just one more Letterbox cache to complete the "Take a Stamp Thursday" challenge. Thanks for another smiley.
#3861 Today is day 8 of my geocaching holiday in New Zealand. I'm driving from Timaru to Oamaru first, then up north to Christchurch. Of course, I find geocaches along the way.Found it! Quick stop on my way north. I finished stage 1 of the multi nearby and came to this letterbox first before heading to the multi final. It was nice to put a stamp in my book.hill55, thank you for the cache!-crystaloops from Taipei, Taiwan on October 8, 2024 @ 16:25:51[GC70DAP] Wai-iti Post (North Otago) was a D2.0/T2.0 Large Letterbox Hybrid at the time of finding.
Today we drove from Dunedin to Christchurch, stopping several times en route for specific caches or waypoints. This was our next stop as I wanted a *Large* & a *Letterbox* for New Zealand, so this was perfect. I parked up in the layby & hopped over the fence for the short walk to GZ. There was a lot of tree debris on the ground & I had to pick my way carefully through it. The hiding place wasn't obvious but the excellent coordinates took me straight to the right spot where the cache was quickly found. I used the stamper which I reserve for *Letterbox Hybrids* to sign in before replacing everything as found. Found at 13:35Cache #10349TFTC hill55

On our twentieth day in New Zealand we drive from Dunedin to Christchurch. This beautiful cache was on our way.TFTCHennesAt the end comes the poem of the day.New Zealand By James K. Baxter (for Monte Holcroft)These unshaped islands, on the sawyers bench,Wait for the chisel of the mind,Green canyons to the south, immense and passive,Penetrated rarely, seeded onlyBy the deer-cullers shot, or else in the northTribes of the shark and the octopus,Mangroves, black hair on a boxers hand. The founding fathers with their guns and bibles,Botanist, whaler, added bones and namesTo the land, to us a bridleAs if the id were a horse: the swampy townsLike dreamers that struggle to wake,Longing for the poets truthAnd the lovers pride. Something new and oldExplores its own pain, hearingThe rains choir on curtains of grey mossOr fingers of the Tasman pressingOn breasts of hardening sand, as actorsFind their own solitude in mirrors,As one who has buried his dead,Able at last to give with an open hand.
I was looking forward to getting another letterbox but this turned out to be a replacement cache without a stamp. Never mind, we stopped at the adjacent rest area for a cup of tea and a bit of bacon and egg pie. TFTC, no problem to find using the hint.
Muggle-hubby and I are on our way from Dunedin to south of Christchurch. Weve travelled from Australia to Dunedin so that muggle-hubby could play basketball in the New Zealand Masters Games, and once Ive watched him play, Ive been caching. Now on our way north, I convinced him that it was time to stop for a short break.Ss GZ, there were, fortunately two caches in the vicinitywho knew?? Lol.I made my way towards this cache first. As often happens, the choice of route in is not the best, and so I made my way around and over several trees until I reached GZ. Im not a big Letterboxer, although Im always keen for a Letterbox Cache, so I found the smaller container, signed the log sheet and put it all back as found.I then made my way to the nearby cache, to make it two caches in one stop, just to keep muggle-hubby happy. Thanks, hill55, for the cache thats easy access from the highway.

Cache 1622 im headed to Christchurch for a short caching holiday and one of the challenges Id like to complete involves finding 3 letterbox caches on a Thursday so how handy was this cache to stop for on the way. Quick find at GZ after climbing all over the fallen trees T4TLB
Stopped off while coming back from Timaru, checked area and cache appears to be missing. Left small container at stump and will stop by next time passing to fix properly
Went to the 0 mark... got plenty of scratches from the chopped down branches and stumps. Did not find it
The while area is coveted in pine slash and difficult to maneuver through so I gave up.
Those were hard earned points. The family of fantails were flitting about us constantly.
We are camped at the golf course for a motorhome GC holiday. Today we packed a picnic and went for a trip to find the local GC's. Glad to have a nice day, but cold wind after all the rain.
We had a couple of very happy chirping fantails follow us on our journey. Thanks for this cache hill55.

Itchy mosquito bites on every inch of your body...
A 40 mph wind gust blowing sand into your ears, nose and mouth...

spent 6 great weeks in New Zealand with my The start was a bit bumpy (Cyclone Gabrielle) but then it got better and better. We travelled to both islands and discovered a lot. We photographed and filmed many beautiful things, but most of it stayed in our hearts.
Almost everywhere we stopped, a cache was already waiting for us. Most of the caches are well maintained and easy to find.
With mostly very nice weather, we saw a lot of this impressive island. In many places, caches were waiting for us, which were sometimes easy and sometimes difficult to find. This cache was also included and was successfully signed
We puzzled a lot in advance and the tours were well prepared
So this box was also well found.
now I have another on my personal cache card.
many thanks to [^] **hill55** [^] for the effort and the cache and greetings from Germany

Heading South in our 3 week journey we stopped for some great caches along the way, including this one! This was a quick find once near GZ. Thanks for the cache, hill55!

Quick find.
Quick find.
We found the letter box a while ago with Alijoy. Hoped to get back to do a bit of tree climbing in the area! But haven’t made it yet. Thanks for replacing the multi. This one wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. All good when we signed. Thanks
Used the letterbox instructions. Found quickly enough but a bit of a scramble over the thinned trees.
Great hide in a great night - thanks for giving us direction for a random drive!
It was a bit of a clamber over fallen trees to reach the cache but we seem to get there by the most efficient route. A great container. We really must start carrying a book to collect the stamps from letterbox caches. We have the perfect book at home but after 12 years of geocaching and 37 letterbox finds we still have not put it in our geocaching kit in the car.
Took a little bit of time for the GPS to settle so after some backwards and forwards I soon had the cache and logbook in hand. Tftc
#9443. I am travelling around the central South Island on a road trip with Infoferret. Been covering some distance searching for geotour caches from Canterbury to Otago and along the West Coast. Enjoyed the drive down the Waitaki Valley with all the autumn colours in the trees. Now back at SH1 and we stopped here to find this letterbox/hybrid cache. Bit of a scramble through fallen logs and overgrown trails to the GZ. The cache was nice and big and easy to spot. Signed the logbook and replaced the cache where found. Thanks hill55 for the cache.

After a fairly long and intense day on the road caching yesterday, today I planned to take a more relaxed approach, finding a few more caches on my drive from Oamaru to Christchurch. Managed to find my way to the post office without any incidents. The mail box was found safe and sound. TFTC, Biggles.
Day 1, leg 1, cache number 5. stopped for lunch and to let the dog have a run. TFTC

Called by to grab a large letterbox. a combination that is not that easy to find in NZ. Took a walk towards the cache and realised there had been a lot of tree felling here recently which resulted in having to crawl over a few. Had the thought along the way if the cache had been removed but once I got to GZ found it out in the open down a small bank. All good here, TFTC.
31 May 2020 3:53 pm. Due to recent tree felling this was more of a mission than I think it used to be... cache is more covered by pine tree than pine needles now! Added my trackable stamp to the book. TFTC hill55
Stopped off here for a wee wander and after hunting around found the cache. TFTC and all in good condition. Looks like I just made it in time before the rain got heavier.
We stopped by here as we headed back up the island to catch the ferry late tonight.
The drizzly rain made this a little difficult (and wet) but we weren't going to miss the opportunity to pick up another letter box cache and a large sized container.
The GPS had a little trouble with the tree's and the weather but gave us the general area to search and the hint item was soon spotted. With the cache visible on approach, unlike what the write up suggested. We returned it the same as we weren't sure where it was meant to be.
Thanks for putting this here for us to find

Flew down to Dunedin today with my usual crew rustynz and her hubby Rebel98. This trip involves a very long mission to obtain as many as we can of the new Tuia Mātauranga GeoTour series. We started in Auckland and intend to finish the series sometime next year. Only 100 caches to get for the souvenir… lol. We do have other caches on the horizon and we’re trying to get as many of those caches as well.
it's about 10pm now when we decide to pull over here. Me and rusty have a letterbox challenge we signed in on, while in USA recently. So we need letterboxes!! Getting to this seemed easy enough, but its night time, we have good torches but the terrain is anything but friendly. But we box on as we do. Rusty spots the obvious cache and I'm thankful we can get back to the warmth of the car, once signed in. The route back was much easier for some reason. Thanks for the cache hill55.

On a caching adventure with some Westies (rustynz, rebel98 and gorby) to Otago and Southland, on a long weekend of caching fun
Pulling over off the road, we crossed over the grass (avoided the barbed wire fence that followed the highway), then entered the forest. Tried to pick an open path to GZ, it was only the last bit that we had to clamber over a chopped down tree. Thankfully the cache wanted to be found, as I spotted the bucket in its hiding place.
A fun find, loved the stamp in this one. Thanks for the hide hill55

Stopped off to check on way back from Waimate and it has gone . will make a decision whether to replace it or not as had nothing with me at this time.
Usually we’re not to blind to find something of that size but checked quite an area around the coords and weren’t successful
I enjoy letterboxes so I noticed this one along my route and made a point to stop here. Some folks were picnicking but nowhere near GZ. I followed directions and spotted the target area. Then it was a quick find. No trackables. I've been traveling in NZ four weeks and dropped five TBs but haven't seen any to pick up. Strange. Anyway, I've loved my time on the South Island! Thanks for the letterbox!

Stopping by woods but in this case not on a snowy evening. Heading north again on our South Island road trip. Saw a letterbox on the way out of Oamaru and couldn't resist. TFTC.
I'm from Norway, escaping the cold winter and travelling around New Zealand for 7 weeks, using geocaching as my tourguide. Today I drove from Christchurch to Glenavy. I love challenge-caches, they got me addicted to this game, and they are the caches that still keeps me going. It's also nice to collect the rewards for all the "hard work". Glenavy have a good collection of challenge-caches, plus lots of other good caches, so I really enjoyed staying here.

We were heading back from an adventure along the Milford Sound Road, and needed to break the journey a few times! We got a bit wet in the process as the rain started to intensify on the way back to the car. TFTC!!
Today we spent some time on geocaching along parkings and part of trails.
Between Oamaru and Rakaia we had four major stops to find caches. The first stop was at the picknick area by Pukeuri, where we found two caches with some historical aspects, then we stopped at the Glenavy Reserve walkway at Waitaki river bridge.
We moved on to Timaru and did some caches from the Saltwater creek walkway where we met Canadian geocachers and had a nice chat and our last geocaching stop was at Ashbury for a part of the Lake Hood trail.
At the parking we combined the two caches but we were send to different locations what was to be expected.
Luckily we found them both.

We are quite partial to letterbox caches and they can be a bit few and far between in New Zealand so when we saw this one it was added to our list for the trip to this year's Oamaru Geofest. I think in the end we got three letterbox caches so that was a good haul.
The GPS signal was very bouncy in the rain for some reason so we wandered about until geowife got fed up and sat in the car and I had to do it solo. Found it in the end, bit of a shame it got muggled, would have like to have seen the original but muggles gonna muggle.
Back to the dryness of the car...decided to push on and try and beat the rain which we eventually did by Waimate. Thanks for the cache, all good here.
