#4164 Today is day 31 of my geocaching vacation in New Zealand. I was supposed to fly back to Taipei today, but there's a typhoon right on top of Taiwan. Instead of sitting at Auckland Airport, I'm flying to Palmerston North today and continuing my geocaching journey in North Island.Found it as my first geocache in Palmerston North. Cool place to check out. edvern, thank you for the cache! -crystaloops from Taipei, Taiwan on October 31, 2024 @ 14:13:14[GC75XBJ] Hoffman's hope (Manawatu) was a D1.5/T1.5 Other Traditional Cache at the time of finding.
Attended an activity where Geocache was been shown to noobs. There was a number of temporary caches setup for the noobs. After the activity we went and found some real caches. Thanks advern for maintaining this cache.
Cool # which only Geocaching peps would recognize Muggles in the house opposite unfortunately may have observed our movements. Good luck.
Beautiful early spring day after work - managed a quick find here (love the cache, hadnt seen one like this), and the kiln itself is awesome. Mihi ki a koe mo te keteroki #267
Thanks edvern for the cache. Its #2021 for us. We found your cache on Saturday 3 August 2024. Relatively quick find. Nice hide near a very interesting place
#14,837. I decided to have a weekend away as it was my birthday in the past week and I wanted to have some fun geocaching up in the Manawatu. Stayed overnight in Palmie and headed here on a fine sunny Sunday. Parked nearby and wandered over to GZ. I saw something shining from afar but only realised once I got close enough it was the cache. Signed the log and replaced the cache as found. Thanks edvern for hiding it here.
16 June 2024 10:41am. Found by GSEL while I was still trying to get my phone to behave! Tftc
Found. It would help if i actually paid attention to the coordinations and maybe i would have found it faster TFTC
Love these kinds of hides and thanks for bringing us to see some fascinating history of the area. Tftc
Another one with RRex03 today. Nice to get another one down! Ever closer to 100 finds
Thanks for your amazing cache. I really appreciate the time you took to set up and maintain your caches. Cheers, Cympull.
Out with TeKainga. Initially overlooked it but it became quickly apparent that something looked ‘out of place’ and it was what we were hoping for. A few bugs had made themselves comfortable in the little pocket that they had to be evicted to free the log. Otherwise all is well and good here. Signed log and returned. Tftc
When I was here back in May doing the multi I just felt totally lost finding this one, today I headed straight to it, love the Hoffman Kiln, I have it mentioned in my NZ Travel Book Worth a Detour, tftc edvern, a fav point from me
With the other 2 looking in one area I looked elsewhere and spied something different -the cache.
Out and about caching with Itchyfeet2020 and matagouri for a fun day caching in and around Palmerston North to cache and to visit friends at a board gaming day. Apologies for the late log. Not quite sure how we signed it -either with our individual names or 3W for the 3 Wellingtonians.
Kia ora rawa atu for the cache edvern.

Out for a day's caching in Palmy with NZ_B and Itchyfeet2020. End of the day, starting to get dark as we parked close to GZ. A brief search soon turned up the well hidden cache. A very cool structure. Itchyfeet's immediate observation: a boutique brewery waiting to happen! All good, tftc!
On a road trip with NZ_B and matagouri today and in the area. A impressive building that would be a magic place repurposed to. Well done to all those putting in the hard yards to restore it and thank you edvern for bringing us here. TFTC.
I remember this cache being in quite exposed.
Found with JoeyGE0. I have now made my own account and am logging the caches I have found to keep my account up to date. This is a real account. I placed the cache back as found, TFTC thanks edvern putting this Traditional cache out!
Online logged on 31/03/23

In town for a long weekend of orienteering events. This was closish to where we were staying so headed out for a walk. Was looking in the wrong place to start but soon sorted it. Also enjoyed looking at the kiln & learning about it. TFTC
I had just done the sums required for the multi and then had to come to make a find here of course! As I was looking for the hide GAR rang to say where was I exactly as he had finished at work and was coming to join me. Had just managed to sign the log and replace when the car turned up across the road. Thanks for the nice hide and all the information edvern!
A nice cool hide here. TFTC. In Palmy for the day, so great to get a few caches here.
A nice and easy find. Thank you for bringing us here. The kiln building looks awesome. TFTC!
There was an issue with the land here being in private ownership. The cache has been moved to respect this. Now ready for visitors again.

I made a day trip up to Palmerston today to gain some altitude in the November stage of the "Reach the Peak" challenge. I've decided that with the current Level structure we are in to complete each climb as early in the month as possible. I didn't realise the cache was disabled at the moment. Never saw any sign either. TFTC
The land here is in private ownership. Checking on whether permission is needed to visit and view the kiln.
"PRIVATE PROPERTY Trespassers will be prosecuted" so the sign says. So decided not to trespass to the cache.
Due to the postponement of the Auckland Mega, Buttels and the Crystal half decided to use the dates planned for the event to do some caching between Wellington and Palmy. Never spotted this place before. Will have to come back when they have a tour on. Surprised the cache still there and in good condition. Thanks for the cache
Found almost on arrival tothe site. There had been a cache our had I wondered about this building before? It wasn't as built up as it is today, tough. Was with Crystal Fairy as we headed up to Palmerston North for a weekends caching. TFTC
Enjoyed learning of the history of the kiln. Great to see restoration in progress. Had a good look around. Cache found quickly. A good hide that gets a favourite point from me.
TFTC and for bringing me to this historic location.

This was actually the first real caching outing for Talla64 and I since the most recent Covid lockdown was lifted, and the day was not the best. Very cold and windy. However we made a plan for PN and came up from Kapiti to find some caches. I'm pleased to say it was a quick find. Thanks for the cache, no-one arround today to witness our activities.
With Flowerydaze on a caching trip from Kapiti. What an interesting place, thanks for bringing us here. This was on our list on a very cold and windy day. This was our first trip since lockdown and it was nice to be able to get out once more. Thanks for the cash edvern.

Too many problems with the previous hide location. This is a temporary replacement, working on a better hiding place than this.

With Gap (of Fap and Gap) and family... We planned to leave Palmerston North today, but not before we visited a couple of caches...
We had an intended cache to visit nearby, but this historic site caught our attention. We attempted to find this hide first before attending to the multi, but the host was empty. A quick scan and we found the cache on the ground. We replaced in position - Thanks edvern and TFTC.

As this cache was just up the road, a short walk had me at GZ where a likely hide was soon spotted. Log signed and left as found.
Great to see that this historic spot is being preserved for the future.
Thanks for the cache edvern.

A nice quick find thanks. A neat national heritage building.
Ms_KR and I are on our annual pilgrimage to Auckland for our family Christmas. Today are cruising around Palmerston North, with fine sunny weather in conrast to last nights rain. Please excuse the generic logs, there have been a few finds and they get muddled up sometimes.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

Checked this one out. The small container had been pulled out, or just dropped, and was lying amongst rubbish on the ground. Ready for visitors again.
At GZ found the most likely place for the cache but could not locate any cache. Either well hidden or missing.
I was in Palmy running errands and naturally decided to grab a few caches while I was out.
I finished the day with this little group of three caches and walks through the little neighborhood parks.
Caches bring me to this location fairly often.
At GZ I spotted a likely location - which turned out to be right - but I grabbed it from the other side for a bit of cover.
T F T C edvern.

Out for the afternoon caching. Bought tweezers specially but cleaned the car! However a bit of wrangling got the log out. Cute cache.
Checked this one today and was relieved to see it lying on the ground. Placed back in its hidey-hole and ready for visitors again.
It's getting late - almost dark and I planned to get GC2K6EF for today's contribution to my daily streak. It being adjacent to a playground, late in the day - even a wet, cold one - seems the best choice. Being an older, single white male I can't say I'm a fan of playground finds. But it was not to be as adult 'children' were still playing.
I'd come here the other day and stuffed up the retrieval necessitating action by the CO. Thought I'd instead call here in case she's sorted it. Yes, sure has, and this time it's an easy find.
Took back to the car to sign and then returned. All quiet, and good here. TFTC and the speedy 'fix'. Have a FP

Container replaced in a previously used location above GL. Maintenance was certainly needed as unpleasant rubbish has piled up at ground level since my last visit here. Same coordinates.
Couldn't reach it. It's gone all the way to the back and my hand is too big to get it. I'll have to return with a TOTT.
I also have to point out that I first went to the first hint (yes, there's two). There's a broken bottle in among the weeds that just good luck prevented me sustaining a nasty injury.

Found it eventually...unfortunately someone had dumped something dead smelling very close to it...but luckily being a nurse I’m good at holding my breath haha!! Thanks for the cache.
Checked this one today and unfortunately it has gone. A replacement container is now placed in a different hiding position for the time being. Same coordinates.
A big mission to the Manawatu day today, picking up a variety of cache types for an internet-based challenge.
Having gathered the clues for the multi, I set about looking for this one. It didn't take too long, but the ants - oh, the ants! And not the last encounter I'll have with them today. Apart from that, all good here. TFTC

Up here for a meeting, have a bit of spare time before the next session. What else to do but hunt down a cache or two? A quick find at an interesting local landmark. TFTC edvern!
Found this on an after dinner dot-day dash in the dark.
Having DNF'ed the cache in the 'pit', I was hoping for an easier find.
Boy, did I make hard work of it!
I searched over and under and around, but not in... :sigh:
Finally simplified my search and soon had the logbook in hand.
Thanks Edvern!

(# 5215). It dawned a lovely day. Big question. Go to work or do a bit of caching in Palmy. Given I am writing this you can tell which way I went. A quick find. Everything in order. TFTC
All quiet in the area today we enjoyed the history here. A quick find of the cache. We both had a day off so decided a caching day trip was loooong overdue.
Thanks for placing the cache edvern.
Find number 4418.
Log signed b&p.

Quickly found after walking from attending the local ANZAC dawn service in town. Cache all dry, signed and replaced as found. Pleased that a part of the local history has been retained. TFTC.
TFTC, nice hiding spot, grabbing a number of caches today in palmy trying to tick off as many new ones as possible as I have not been here in a number of years when I had logged 99%of all caches in the city. Nice use of materials!
Was trying to do a few caches around town and saw that there was a multi here as well so made sure we stopped to get the info and pick up this trad at the same time. TFTC
Why is it, that every time I find a cache here - and I do mean EVERY time I find a cache here - it gets archived? It's sort of okay, another appears again shortly after, but I am starting to wonder. I don't have that problem anywhere else. Just here. This is now my third Hoffman's cache. I expect there will be another next time I am in Palmy. Nice hide, by the way.
Day twenty of an awesome, tiring, long, three week holiday geocaching with Taybeedragon in the upper north. Today: Palmerston North, hanging out with my family and doing cache maintenance. The whole trip comprised of hours of walking on sand, sliding down sand dunes, hundreds of kilometres of unsealed roads, car breakdowns, paddling out to islands, lighthouses, dolphins, goats, events, FTFs, weird boulders. You name it, we saw it. Lots of bisons, lots of cache maintenance, lots of sunscreen. A month is enough. I am glad to be back home. Except that now I have to write up my trip. We averaged just 20 caches per day, but that is still a lot of logging!
Happy new Planetary Orbit from the Seagnoid!

Day #3 of our four day caching trip to Palmerston North. Today the forecast was perfect for an assault on the Stickman series - fine with light winds in the morning. The weather turned out as forecast, with great views especially along the ridge and it took under four hours from start to finish.
After returning to PN and revitalised by coffee, we decided to find a few more caches in the area. We had found Hoffman's despair many moons ago, and were surprised by the changes in the area. Cache was a quick find. Thanks for bringing me back here and TFTC.
