Start of a big day of walking around Maroubra and Malabar. A nice puzzle and a nice hide. TFTC oldmorty

#6sneaky hide! definitely made sneakier by going here at night. almost gave up once or twice, but took one last look at the surroundings and managed to grab it. signed log, tftc Smile

17-Jan-24
Found it!!! Second attemp after DNF, was looking up down in and out side to side and couldnt see anything. Where I thought the cache might be, it wasnt except I was just looking at the wrong side. I saw and felt something unusual blended in with the surroundings. I thought maybe the cache was meant to be stuck to it and it was stolen so I was getting back on my bike to ride home while I had the thought of checking one last time and in fact I touched the cache, realised you can remove it and it wasnt stuck. There it was what a relief that I didnt have to leave and log another dnf!

04-Jan-24
More like, I did not look. Several muggles hanging at GZ. I figured I would come back but never did make it back there. Not going to ruin your cache hide.

11-Dec-23
After several of hours geocaching possible today while a teenager is at a ritzy cinema, we returned to Maroubra where I couldnt find this sneaky hide yesterday. Sent my solved coordinates to CO who since confirmed that my details and hide still present .Signed log with TBs Canadian Flag, Pittiplatsc, Corona Express Cruise Ship, Bierkrug, USA Bear, Technology Tag and Manon Ozzieland in tow. Gotta offload these TBs sooner.

Have beeb a few times over the last few days but either been too many muggles or just gave up empty handed. Looked high and looked low but no luck for us here today. Maybe next time. Thanks

24-Sep-23
Early morning cycle to Maroubra. Made this one my final stop. Just amazing the old Sydney tram network stretch. Would be lovely if it was still around. Did the sums last night and very thankful to be here around 630am, can imagine it would be difficult at other hours. Little bit of a hunt then spotted something that required closer inspection. Bingo CIH. Love these type! Thanks for sharing this location and a great cache oldmorty #2112

Easy puzzle to solve and a fun cache to find. I touched it a few times without realising I had touch the cache. First time in Marouba. TFTC.

A FP from me. Made a find today on a lunchtime stroll. Had to look at the hint a couple of times and it’s amazing what happens when you are observant of your surroundings!! TFTC oldmorty

Covid threw a wrench into our travel plans for the last couple of years. Finally restrictions have been lifted enough so we can return to Australia. Spending the next couple of weeks in Sydney settling Sal into UNSW. Needless to say O week will keep her busy so I have plans to explore, cache and be on hand to pay bills!
Walking back to my bnb and somehow the next cache then the next one happened and I found myself here! Fun puzzle to work on and head slap for the find (I have one just like this but managed to miss this first look around).

great hide...wow...thanks Oldmorty. go with your first instincts.. it's right there

Lovely to visit Maroubra without the crowds even on a Friday night. A fun puzzle and an interesting location.
Found with Baktrak on our nocturnal conquest of the South.

22-Oct-21
This was the southern extreme of our Friday night expedition. Found exactly where we'd predicted. The log is overfull but we found a faded spot to fit ourselves in. Thanks oldmorty.

09-Jun-21
This is such a difficult hide. Massive camo almost invisible and after 3 visits asked the CO for assistance. Logs are a little wet so I'm currently in the car trying to dry them out.
Well done

02-Jun-21
A super late night attempt meant no muggles to worry about, but apparently that wasn’t my issue.

4 times I went to leave, and 4 times I turned right around, convinced that it must be here.

Previous logs suggested it would be unlikely to have been muggled, so I persisted.

When I finally found it, I exclaimed out loud!
So simple, so well blended with the surrounds.
I must have looked in that exact spot twice, but didn’t spot it!

A favourite point is well earned.

Tftc.

Worked out the puzzle at CCC this week. In the area today and after a short search and paf to confirm the right location we had cih. Tftc

Very sneaky hide, had to PAF for this one. Lots of people around today TFTC

21-Jan-21
TFTC,

Came out today to complete 8 caches and finish my personal challenge set by Grub Fred Australia Day 2020 to bring my per day finds to 5.

With the solutions to 5 puzzles and plans to solve 3 puzzles in the field it should have been a great way to complete this. Not to be a good day though and I can't remember the last time I had a 50% find rate. It leaves you a bit disappointed and left wondering if the hides were just to good for you or if the caches are missing as at least 1 was.

Number 1 find for the day. We parked almost at GZ and after having a long look around it was time to check the hint which took us to a quick find. The coordinates were spot on and all in good order.

Visited trackables.

21-Jan-21
1st cache for the day, attempted 8 and found 4 today. Looked around at all possible locations, kept going back to GZ , I had, had my hand on it, then Wazza9 located it. Stamped log and replaced. Good hide. Thanks to oldmorty

Solved a few puzzles from home (using different coloured bison tubes to demonstrate the math for this one) which determined an agenda while in the area running errands for family doing time in hotel quarantine. Arrow and co-ords spot on for a quickly confirmed hide.

An interesting cache and ended up being a really quick find! would be A LOt harder in the summer months!! TFTC

Checked this one on a daily walk. It's still there to be found.

No luck today on this one.
I spent quite a while searching the area around the clue but was unable to locate the well hidden cache.

oldmorty I found your cache All Aboard on 22/1/20, 12:30 pm. This is my find 2493 and find # 1 today. Did the calculations a while back. Arrived at GZ, wasn’t sure what I was looking for. Coordinates are spot on. Sit down and you’ll see it. Thanks for the cache, mate! TNSLLN

12 October 2019 @ 8:50 am

Thank you oldmorty, for creating, placing and maintaining this cache. I have enjoyed finding it and visiting this spot.

I had solved this when it was first published. Today while attending an event in the vicinity, the cache was not so easy to find.. i looked a little closer and spotted the clever camo. The sheet needs some TLC.. forgot to mention it at the event

Found with alphadeltaindigo just before the maroubra breakfast event, tftc! Smile

Myself and the goose of gooseandegg had looked for this a couple of times between us when we were over and I'm pleased to say today we found it, in fact goose spotted it from a distance and I could swear it wasn't there when I looked last lol.

Thanks for the cache.

HOORAY! After a couple of previous DNFs I have finally found it Razz The CO took pity on me and gave me a vague hint. Today I returned with stainless steel rat and within seconds I had spotted it. It's bloody well hidden and not what I was expecting. Now I can get rid of that frown that has haunted me for the last year. We went off and had a beer to celebrate the find.
This was the last find of a big weekend at the Clear Waters mega. We had just enough time to sneak here before hitting the Qantas terminal.
Thanks oldmorty, a favorite point for a clever hide, and because this monkey is now off my back.

04-Jan-19
OMG! Is this going to be a hat trick of DNFs? After solving this fun puzzle earlier in the year, Mrs Gaztek had arrived at a very appropriate GZ only to be defeated in the finding game in March 2018. Both Gaztek’s visited in May 2018 with a similar result. I’m sure we touched every part of that structure but... nothing! Today we attended with a nudge from the CO which narrowed down the search area, a place that we were sure we had thoroughly examined before. So look and feel we did... but again nothing! Whaaaat!!! Hang on, it must be here! Hey, what’s this? Very tricky and actually quite sensible but a little out of the ordinary too! A favourite from us for the puzzle, the location of GZ and the clever hide. SL TFTC Cheers... Gaztek

16-Aug-18
I've recalculated the same coords a few times. But at GZ I cannot spy a cache.

31-Jul-18
A day out in the ES with Zelda the geodog to catch a tram. We hopped on at the published coords which eventually took us to GZ where the tram terminated. A short stroll and I saw the hint from a distance. I then spent some time checking several options without anything jumping out at me. I read a few logs, then remembered a few other types of hides the CO had. Another check in a place I had looked at earlier, and I spied something that truly blended in. Well done, you almost had me there! Off for some lunch before boarding the tram back to The Shire. TFTC

22-Jul-18
After a previous DNF I brought my family back as we had a long transit on our way home from Fiji. Maybe I need to check my numbers because the 4 of us couldn't find it. Oh well, we will check again next time we visit Sydney

Since we were not successful when attempting this one a few month back but had recived somw friendly nudges from the CO and were in town again - a new attempt was made turning that frown into a smile. Smile

Nice easy puzzel with a great final hide. A FAVpoint for us.

Thank you oldmorty for putting the cache out and maintaining it.

Now, I departed the bus at the right location and with the crazy surf pounding the shore line the shop remained closed.
Now add 3 males, 1 female and 2 children at GZ and that is how many exited our bus. Thanks to 4rods and crash on the experience of the walk and talk.
How cool is the camo, and I looked at it and couldn’t see the forest through the trees, whereas crash had his eye in and spied the hide quite quickly. I must admit that if I was here solo, I would still be down there.
Impressive, simple hide that I have seen before but over looked it. Awesome set of hides oldmorty.

After a team effort to find the CMIYC cache, we agreed to attempt a few more caches around Maroubra. I've had this one in my solved list for quite some time and have even walked past on a busy, busy weekend over summer. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find the shop closed today. Again, Martin Cousins and myself arrived at GZ before the 4Rods and agreed on an area to search. After discounting a few spots, I noticed something which required further investigation. With a little bit of care, we were able to add our names to the log. Then had some fun watching team 4Rods duplicate our efforts. Nice to grab some unloved days here too.

After four finds for my calendar today, so headed east of Botany for some caches. I'd solved a puzzle in the area since I was last here, so decided it was time to grab it.
In the end I snaffled six, with one extra find that another cacher was quite happy about.
###END OF CUT AND PASTE SECTION###
Back again for another go.

No muggles (well not many), and no find. Seems I have no clue.
Was here far too long.

11-May-18
Cache remains in tact and is only waiting to be found.

No luck for the second time here this time with Mr Gaztek along for the search. But with a dying sun and the Roosters game soon to start, we opted to leave this for another day. Will be back. Cheers... Gaztek

Cache check has revealed that it's still in place.

03-Apr-18
spent a lot of time at GZ but couldn't find the cache, I hope it is just well hidden and not missing.

8-4-2018 The CO just messaged me and said it is still there which is great to hear. Long way back from Hobart for another visit though.

22-Mar-18
Rats! No luck today. Calculated GZ many weeks ago and enjoyed the virtual tram ride. Enjoyed visiting the end of the line, wiggled a few things here and there but nothing revealed itself. Will rethink and visit again before long. Cheers... Gaztek

13-Mar-18
And another DNF today. Really not my day today. Searched all around the place for 20 min with Dino but couldn't find anything.

02-Jan-18
Today an old school friend who now lives in North Queensland and I did the coastwalk from South Maroubra to Clovelly. Along the way I explained about geocaching and stopped for a few caches I had not found along the walk.
I'd completed this puzzle quite some time ago and had one attempt to find it but was muggled out by the passing traffic.
I had not planned to stop here today but surprisingly the shop was closed, or maybe we were just too early, so I had a quick search and soon had CIH.
Very sneaky!
Log signed and cache rehidden.

I have a third Sydney FC game in a week tonight at the football stadium - another win, Huzzah! - so decided to find some caches out Maroubra way first. I had some solutions for puzzles, so even went for them. But of course the DNF reared its very ugly head!
###END OF CUT AND PASTE SECTION###
Happy I had the right numbers to this - matched the hint. But so many muggles. Searched as well as I could, but only likely thing I spotted was away from my solved cords, and just couldn't find enough of a break in the muggle madness to check it as well as I'd have liked.

I need to come back when it's pouring rain!

10/9/17. 10:20 AM. Cache #5292.
3rd of 3 finds this morning - Botany, Little Bay & Maroubra.

I decided to clear some more of the Eastern Suburbs on my caching run this morning, and came here after getting "The Little Bay Crawl". I had already solved this puzzle and DNF'd the final back in July (see that log below). Since that visit, I have changed phones and unfortunately this one I hadn't saved the GZ coordinates via a Personal Cache Note. So, it was lucky that the GZ location was just one that was easy to remember then.

I had also gained a little extra info on this one, so after parking fairly closely, I went straight up to a likely spot. Muggles inside were not an issue today either, which was a bonus. And so I found it pretty much straight away - how did I miss that before?!?

Walked off with it to sign the log and did a discrete walk-past to replace it as well. Hmmm, I started later in the morning than I had meant to, so I had run out of time to do the 2 new earthies up in Bondi & Vaucluse, and didn't quite get to clear all the Eastern Suburbs as a result. Still, glad to finally have a smiley here. TFTC.

Gosh it's nice to be back at Maroubra without yesterday's massive gale. I'm still getting sand out of my hair, ears, eyes etc ... Solved this one a few days ago but after reading the logs, I thought my chances of actually finding it were very small. I'm pretty bad at this game. BUT - amazingly, I homed in to ground zero swiftly and after only a tiny amount of drama queen nervous breakdown and interpretive dance, had the cache in hand. YAY... What an interesting bit of history, oldmorty. Thank you for bringing me here.

Nice sneaky hide oldmorty

12-Aug-17
I thought the puzzle would have an extra twist to do with the driver!?! But, it all worked out quickly.

Today I had time for a search and time I needed!?! None of my phone-a-friends had found this and I was on my own.

Old logs gave me the right idea but it still took around fifteen minutes to spot!?!

A worthy 950th Mystery Cache!!!

TFTC.

11-Aug-17
It was such a nice warm & sunny day today that I decided to head off to work a bit early and take the coastal route going via South Head, Maroubra and Little Bay. This was the 2nd of 3 finds for today.

The family’s chief puzzle solver had solved this one some time ago, but it had been left up to me to take the tram ride to GZ to find the prize. I have a certain fondness for trams, having once been a member of the Loftus Tramway Museum, so it’s always nice to do a tram related cache.

Arrived at a now quite familiar location, parked the geomobile, and then wandered up to GZ for a look. Quickly spotted a familiar style of cache placement (simple but very effective), and it was then CIH. Signed the log sheet, then replaced as found. Nice to see that the old tramway infrastructure at GZ is still in good shape, albeit not being used for it’s originally intended purpose. TFTC oldmorty.

Find #1881

26-Jul-17
After my recent DNF here I was very keen to get back here and have another go.

Following the tram journey I arrived at GZ, not many muggles around today so I had a good look around.

Hmmmmm still as difficult as I thought the last time I was here ! In desperation I messaged the CO for a little hint, then as usual made the find within a minute of hitting send !

Like others I had dismissed this very clever camo the first few times I'd seen it as I was expecting something smaller !

A nice puzzle, good history lesson and a sneaky hide

Fav point awarded

A tiny window of opportunity today before work and with stunning weather, a tram ride was in order. Hopped on and watched many get on and off. I was the only stayer. Arrived to have salty air clear my nostrils and had a 10min slot to find the cache. Boom. Yay! Off to work. Fav point for sneakiness. TFTC oldmorty

23-Jul-17
Great maths practice for my son this one. Did the calculation and headed off to the gz in the afternoon to find some other caches in the area. I doubted my first suspicion but finally came back and had another check. Clever camo! Maybe the tram will come here again one day. TFTC

Solved and found this cache with my Geodad EverestHigh. Found this cache at night. Due to the time of searching there weren't many muggles around. Great camo. Smile TFTC oldmorty. Smile

16/7/17. 8:12 AM.
Caching in Maroubra, Malabar, Sans Souci.

Despite turning 3 past DNFs into smileys this morning, I added a new DNF here.

After finding "Tekapo", I returned to the car at South 'bra car park and worked my way through this puzzle. The GZ looked quite likely, and I decided I'd take a short drive to get a bit closer.

When I got there, I could see something that matched the hint perfectly. But muggle-wise, right now was a terrible time to be around here. I could hear muggles inside and plenty were walking around outside too. I tried to be as stealthy as I could and did a little bit of feeling around and playing with things that looked like they might move, but I felt uneasy and didn't have a good answer if I'd been questioned about my suspicious behaviour.

I decided it might need a return at a later hour (or some very good intel if I do have to come back at a muggly hour), so off I went to "Anastasia in Disguise" instead. TFTC.

15-Jul-17
Early Saturday morning and not too many muggles around. Found myself at GZ searching everywhere. This was not going to be an easy. So many places to hide things. I spotted the occupants of the building approaching, so I quickly grabbed one of their brochures and started reading it. What on earth was I doing? I'm not going to take up surfing at my age. After almost giving up, I had another thought. Remembering a cache I'd found overseas. And sure enough, I soon had CIH. TFTC oldmorty.

13-Jul-17
I'd solved this puzzle the evening before and hopped on a bus heading towards GZ.

On board I checked the logs and saw that the puzzle had been disabled. I reached out to the CO concerned that maybe the cache had been moved and I was heading to the wrong place, he confirmed I was good to continue my journey.

At GZ there where so many hiding spots and even mid week, so many muggles.

I had a quick search around but started to feel conscience of attracting attention so I headed off for an easier find to keep my streak alive.

I'll be back......
