What an amazing landscape here! Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this cave and seeing all the different layers from these great geological events. Interesting. Our answers have been sent. Thank you Orange Crew.
Started out here today, lovely place, both the cave and the community Thanks for the cache./herrFamaxe from Sweden
Found with Gummi_Venus. This was such a fun place to explore! While GV was typing up her geology thesis, I was climbing around and nosing around the holes. Who doesn’t enjoy a good bit of cave exploration?!
Really enjoyed exploring this cave with ObnoxiousSpaceCat before tackling the nearby caches. This was my first EC - gave me school excursion vibes and I liked it. Answers sent to CO.
I am logging this Earthcache very late because after my trip to Okains Bay at New Year I misplaced the notebook I had used to jot down the very detailed notes I needed to answer the questions.
I was so disappointed.
Today while cleaning out my car I found it in a random pocket on the back of the driver's seat that I didn't know existed (well, clearly I did know it existed because I had tucked the notebook away there while on holiday )
I had completely forgotten about this pocket.
Such a relief! Not only can I now log this cache, but it had a few hours worth of notes and workings for some other puzzle/mystery caches which I can now (hopefully) complete.
Anyway, Okains Bay is a familar family camping spot, made more enjoyable this year because we had discovered caching
Thanks for placing this Earthcache- I was able to look at the old cave in a "new light" so to speak
(Answers Sent to C.O
Photo is the outside of the cave )

The cave was much larger than I recalled from an earlier visit and I could not remember the different layers visible as well as the additional caves. Responses sent to CO; TFTC
Had not visited Okains beach before, so did not really know what to expect. What a surprise, so much history, and an amazing landscape

Just arrived at the campground for the weekend. After dinner we decided to go for a walk. We stopped for this cache. One of our friends who is a geologist was excited as she new about caves on the other side of the bay. She loved it and helped a lot with the answers. It is quite a big cave! Thanks for taking us here.
Enjoyed visiting this fascinating cave again and the wonderful beach and camp ground.

We camped out in Okains last night. Could have visited the sea cave yesterday but I postponed it to the morning. We had to leave early, so as soon as there was enough light, went to check out the cave.
This is pretty massive! Saw some others but waay smaller yesterday, walking on the low tide route to the other 'bay'.
Kia ora! Paldies!
Thanks, Orange Crew!

Staying in the area so took a drive out to visit these remote bays. An interesting sea cave. Answers sent to CO.
Out exploring our local area in our camper so lucky to have this amazing beach on our back door - TFTC
Had a great drive over from Akaroa where we are staying and ended up at the beach - soon made our way to the cave - had no cell coverage and had left the GPS at the motel room !! So took some photos and sent our answers to the owner - what a neat place we enjoyed "doscovering" it - thanks for the earthcache and bringing us here
Having a great time discovering Akaroa and all around. Found some great views but in my hurry managed to leave the gps again in the unit. All was ok until we had no cell coverage. This meant we had to observe and photo a lot in the caves. Luckily we got enough info to please the CO. Thanks for the Earthcache.
We had been on a 4x4 trip Birdlings flat, across end of lake Forsyth then Mt Bosu and round to the Takamatus stock track. We finished at Okains bay and stayed for the night. Went for a walk to do these caches before happy chatting and hot toddies. Sunday was our day to explore and find geocaches. Love this cave but can't post photos as will give away answers. Sent our info to CO. Thanks for this great Earth cache Orange Crew.
We love Earthcaches and this was a good one to inform us about the volcanic geology we also see around ChCh. Answers sent. TFTC
Having the explanations from the cache read aloud made for a fascinating visit. We figured out the answers and explored the far recesses with a torch. Messaged CO with answers and got an instant reply. Thanks for bringing us to this awesome spot!
Found with TharntheHalken while exploring Banks Peninsula. Answers sent to CO. Tftc!
We stopped here in this bay during a trip on Akaroa. It was not so hot so that no muggles were on this beach when were there.
Thanks for showing this place.

I visited here on a 36 degree day to enjoy a swim at the beach. It was lovely and refreshing. Lots of muggles on the beach but when I visited this magnificent cave there was no one about. That for bringing me back to this part of the bay and the information. TFTC a favourite point from me.
A fun little walk with a companion who is booked for a new hip, so the sandy stroll fitted the bill. Not many folk down here today, but we did manage to chat to a family who were curious about the GPS and the writing paper we were carrying. Thank you OC
Thank you, such a lovely relaxing place. This is our favourite camping spot! Interesting to know a bit more about the area.
I wanted to make the most of the presence of my son (and his car!) for the holidays, so after an early finish at work, we went for a nice long drive to the peninsula. It took us some 6 hours and 250km around some cool spots, and we had a great chat along the way too! TFTC!!
Very nice cave nearby our campingsite and start and end of our little coastal trail. I must send the answers back in civilization when I have internet again tftc

Stopped for this interesting Earthcache with the NZGA 2019 group. We enjoyed seeing the caves and trying to figure out the answers to the questions. Answers sent, thanks for setting up this Earthcache for us to enjoy!
We thought it time to go and visit this bay and get a few boxes and what a treat it was. The kids really enjoyed the cave, disappearing into one of the smaller holes and climbing all over it. That's what caching is all about. Continued on with the old wharf road and then another play on the way back. Cheers
Today is our fourth day traveling the south island and the 23rd day of our travels south. We stayed the night at a camp on the other side of the port. After eating breakfast we drove over to the virtual at Timeball tower before we started our drive to Akaroa. We stopped at the gemstone and shell museum and had a look around the nearby beach as well before heading to Akaroa. After having a nice fish & chips lunch we drove to Okains Bay. Once there we stopped at the Sea cave on our way back to the car from the beach. Answers sent. Tftc

Not the nicest day, but enjoyed walking around some of the bay, collecting a few caches (as you do!). Some great scenery, an enjoyable geology lesson, and definitely worth the visit. TFTEC

During our holiday in New Zealand we have visited both the North and the South Island. We saw a lot of highlights of this beautiful country, but there is so much more to see. So many highlights, so many caches! The geocaches showed us a lot of special and interesting places. Sometimes a quick find, sometimes we had to search longer. A few DNF's, but that doesn't matter. We loved New Zealand and we hope to come back some day!
Today we have found the cache "Okains Bay Sea Caves (Canterbury)". Thanks for the lesson!
Orange Crew, thanks for creating and maintaining this cache!

WE are running around these gravel backroads in banks Peninsular for the day. Its back to Okains Bay to check out these amazing sea caves. Thanks for this earth cache which has made me really look at the definitive layers and how they were formed. I always enjoy what I learn from earth caches and look at our country from a different view due to them. Cheers. Fav from me.
Its Saturday - day three - Little River - Akaroa today. Lets go exploring.
Its Waitangi Day - day one of a five day weekend exploring the amazing Canterbury, with The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby, Jack and Jill. Two days Rangiora, a day in Lyttleton and 2 days in Banks Peninsula. I got call from The Seagnoid, hes taking a long weekend. Lets go to the West Coast! Lets Go!! but maybe not the West Coast - rain on the way. So lets go to Canterbury. We leave for Christchurch Tuesday evening after picking up The Seagnoid after work. We make camp for the night at Amberly. Today its off to Rangiora for a cycle trip.

It's a hot day, and there are quite a few people on the beach, and two families exploring the nooks and crannies and the shade of the cave. But earthcaches are virtuals so we started studying the left wall, all 9 layers of it, without waiting for the muggles to leave. Then I reread the questions and realised we were supposed to be working on the rear wall. Oops! Start again! Nice cool break in the day, thanks for another great earthcache.
Down to Christchurch with Taybeedragon, Zara and Toby for a five day weekend starting Waitangi Day (which this year fell on a Wednesday. I reckon half the country would have been taking 5 day weekends!). A couple of days in Rangiora. We did two cycle trails there - having two vehicles makes it so easy. One of those cycle trails was fifty caches. Fifty caches in one day on a bicycle! Then a day in Lyttelton and couple of days exploring the back roads around Akaroa. Darn close to two hundred caches in all. Dropped off a lot of path tags along the way, especially if the cache was nice and dry

After a good long swim and play at the beach came over here and quickly found said cave and counted out the information. We have explored some other sea caves at the other end of the beach and also around further.
While mørketid (the polar night) is upon us back home, I decided to be brave and fly south to find summer.
After a quick visit in Christchurch and no luck on any of the caches I attempted, I moved on to the Banks Peninsula. After a lovely night in a farm's campground, and a really nice boat trip in the Akaroa bay, I head to Okains Bay, enjoying the touristy road
Finally arrived at Okains Bay, I wanted to head to the beach before checking in the campground...but it turns out that the campground is on the beach [:o)]... Well I guess I could have had a better look at the map...
Anyway, after a quick early dinner, I still have some time before dark and I decide to go for a walk on the beach. A quick check on the map and of course a cache appears! Actually really nice discovery, I would probably have missed the cave without it! Pretty tired from the day, not sure I would have pushed to the end of the beach.
Anyway, answers sent to the cache owner, let's hope all is good

We have been weaving and winding down and across mountains for many days now and we are counting down to "F" day, Flying day that is. What a wonderful country NZ is, we had a blast. A big, big thank you must go to all the brave people who maintain & repair these roads and to all the CO's who encouraged us to stop along the way.

TFTC. A quick trip to the Banks Pen for a few caches.
I decided to head around the peninsula from Diamond Harbour.
It was a blustery spring day, but never too blustery to be cache hunting and log signing.
How had I missed these caves on previous visits here?

Today we made a trip over the Peninsula, beginning in Littleton, then Governors Bay, Diamond Harbour, Port Levy, Pigeon Bay, Okains Bay, Robinson Bay, Arakoa, and then back to Christchurch in order to see that many sightseeing points along the road. On this trip we searched, found and logged a lot of caches, too. The weather was beautiful, sunny, very warm, a little bit cloudy, and only sometimes there was some wind.
Almost no muggels observed us as they had to drive their cars on the not too easy roads on the Peninsula.
Thanks to Orange Crew for showing us this location and for the fun we had at Okains Bay Sea Caves (Canterbury). The answers will be on the way, soon.
Greetings from Germany and hope to see you soon in the forest.

A quick and easy find. A informative wander in the cave. Thanks
Found on a nice day for a drive around the Penninsula. A very scenic day, and lots of climbing from sea level to the summit road.

After geocaching the Jolly Roger series of caches at Okains Bay I called into the main sea cave, and found it was occupied by 3 campers who had parked their little van inside the cave and had erected a tent in there too. I informed them that I was a geology student and was here to collect information for my studies. Took plenty of photos of the the main cave and others nearby. CO has been sent my answers. Thanks for the earthcache Orange Crew.
Mrs Rincewind is away in Napier for a few days and I had to get Rincewind Jr back to Wainui by 9am. With the rest of the day free what was I to do? Go caching of course! This was one of 37 finds for the day (& a couple of DNFs )
It's funny but since the 2011 quake I'm less inclined to spend much time inside caves. Silly really - it survived that quake and tens of thousands of others before and since.
Still, enter I did, and I gathered the answers to the questions (sent), and had a nose around. Thanks for making me slow down and *look*.

A lovely day trip to Okains Bay and LeBons Bay with Nosynel and Busy paws. I spent a lot of time camping out here with my partner and our children in the 90s and we explored everywhere around here in our Canadian canoe and on big walks so this visit was very nostalgic for me. My partner died unexpectedly in 2007. I can still see him sitting up on one the old jetty poles! I have sent my answers to the CO. Thanks for this cache, Orange Crew.
It's a beautiful autumn day in the school holidays. Luckily I had been invited to cache with Jude_E and Busy paws. We are driving around the peninsula.

Popped by to check out the bay and explore this little cave. It was interesting to study the cave walls. I went for a walk along the path above the cave which was certainly well eroded! Nice views of the bay from inside the cave too! TFTC x

We had a great day exploring Okains Bay today and this was the first cache on the list. Very interesting to pop inside and explore - and there were several families here with children inside the small side caves. Thanks for bringing us here and for the cache!
Got this one on the trip down to Okains Bay for the caches there. I have been into a sea cave before, but this one is particularly interesting. The layers here could clearly be seen, like a time capsule that records the history of the area. This was most educational and interesting, and I am glad I made the trip down here. TFTEC!
Headed out on a Mad Monday Mission with TG to see if we could snag the unlogged EC in Okains Bay. Such a lovely evening. We did all the back roads around to snag a few of the 'out of the way' caches for me, TG had already scored those. Home at a reasonable hour too!
Great EC! Fav from me. We sent in our answers and we were pipped at the post. Great place here.

Out and about on a Monday night Mission with TheWanglers. We spotted the new Earthcache and although visited by Oli Kuul we thought we might be able to pip them to the 'email'......no such luck; they'd emailed the CO with answers earlier today. No worries though. A fantastic drive out and the Bay was spectacular as always. What a cooooooooooooooooool spot for an Earthcache too. Fantastic spot of geology, well worth the visit. Answers emailed by TW when we hit cell reception somewhere along summit road and we got confirmation & permission to log later in the evening. After the Earthcache we drove home the looong way going around via little Akaloa, Summit Rd, Pidgeon Bay, Port Levy, Purau & then homewards...with a couple cache stops for TW. Home 'early' (11pm) and only a few Km driven (compared to last week and the week before!).....
We had the great chance to travel around New Zealand during six weeks and were able to see wonderful cities, landscapes and meet nice Kiwis. While staying in NZ many cache owners gave us the opportunity to search for very well hidden treasures and we thank them very much for preparing and maintaining them.
