Noticed a few caches up out this way so decided to go for a drive this afternoon, a quick find here, TFTC

Nice area. Lovely day considering the crap weather lately. Thanks Muzza

11-Aug-24
Wa worried it had been washed away after flood but found it with Vardie!

11-May-24
Thanks for the cache TNLN.

05-Apr-24
Took us a bit longer than it should have! TFTC Smile

07-Apr-23
Thought about going to the falls but with long grass and an electric fence blocking the easiest access we decided to continue our caching adventure and leave the falls for another time. Quick find of the cache in the obvious spot.

12-Feb-23
Found this one yesterday on our regular walk to Kaihiku Falls. Phone had a fit so could not log at the time.

21-Aug-22
When I got up today and realised it was International Geocaching Day, I thought I better get amongst it, Gabby59 are you keen? Yes she was, but first we had to get some jobs done. Rendezvous at 4.30pm and cached till the sun went down.
TFTC, it was full of water, have emptied it out, and dried as well as possible, one log was ruined, the other newer one was ok, sealed well inside a ziplock bag. We replaced cache upright so hopefully won't fill up again

21-Aug-22
Tftc. Out with Mr Cat and co, helping with the world record. Too short of daylight to check out the falls but know where they are and not far from the Main road. Step is almost ground level so cache full of water. Dried out best we could

19-Jun-22
Paddocks extremely wet for a waterfall visit. But we collected the cache. Thanks.

27-Apr-22
Quick find while exploring with my family, TFTC

Quick and easy find on a roadie with the geokids. TFTC

Nice find while out with my family, TFTC

11-Mar-22
Easy find but the falls were harder. Followed the track. Should have followed the river. The foto looks amazing. Even better than Southland's Niagra falls. Tftc

11-Mar-22
A nice quick find thanks. We started to walk to the falls, then it sounded like a bit of a mission to get to so we turned back.

Ms_KR and I are on a wee South Island break. A day spent collecting smileys around and about Balclutha. It rained a wee bit about lunchtime, but it was a glorious day for caching!

Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

Easy find, logged our name in the fresh dry log book, didn't get to the falls this time might come back another day, be careful around the electric fence

07-Dec-21
After shifting my snail shell to Balclutha, where I have never stayed before in my six years of travelling the country, it is only today that I have managed to get some caching done. To make up for the lack of signed caches I decided to do this series to the South of this burg to get my numbers up. Also it is the start of a new Climb The Peak mountain.

Another that is not one of the series.

Replaced the log.

Cheers for the cache.

02-Dec-21
Find was a bit of a surprise. Electric fence still up and looked like we would need to do some serious wading to get around it, so left the falls for another day. Kia ora for the cache.

18-Nov-21
Need 50 today for a Geocaching Licence Challenge. Thanks for all CO's placing these, especially those with safe parking. This is number 39. New log as was soggy mess.

08-Sep-21
Found it but could not sign the log as it was too wet.

06-Jul-21
Cache 775 Sadly it’s getting to dark for a trip to the falls today ️ and the farmer has electric fence right in front of style so he can graze his cattle maybe another day Cache is a quick easy park and grab, even though the cache itself is in good condition the log is getting damp in the winter weather but I’m sure it will dry out T4TC

22-Apr-21
On a day trip with P&Vee. First find of the day

22-Apr-21
First for the day, found with VD56, didn't walk to the falls as on a mission to clear up the "Bob series", maybe next time.

29-Mar-21
Aaah, waterfall!
Aaah, cache in remote yet attainable area!
Aaah, location that is known by locals, and not by Lonely Planet (have you ever wondered why Lonely Planet insists people visit these 'lonely' places in droves? Contradictio in terminis if you ask me).

This promised to be right up my ally! Thuswise it was a little surprising to find this cache so early on the track. But hey: we came this far, might as well explore further. Following Muzzers instructions I followed the stream (river?) as best as I could. There are parts where you have to take your time and where you have to check where you put your feet, but otherwise it's pretty doable. From time to time there even was a track through the grass that was easy to follow, but that could simply be the remains of previous geocacher expeditions to this site.

Disturbing a few birds here and there, a calm but steady flowing flow was followed. It did make me wonder if that was the reason why the cache was placed so early on the track. The river (stream?) did look as if it could get pretty wicked and wild at times of heavy rain, as evidenced by the picture that the CO uploaded (by the way, what an amazing picture that is! Wow.) as well as plenty of driftwood, branches and related material.

After having followed the stream (river?) for about 350 metres, I came to an elbow with some amazing trees and wonderful flat rock formations. Following the river (stream?) would have ment going over a cliff...so not that way then. Walking up the steep-ish bank would have ment crossing barbed-wire fence...so not that way then. Going up the other bank would have ment scaling a steep rockwall...so not that way either then. Hrmm, the only remaining option was returning where I just came from. Well, so be it then. I reckon this was the same spot as where taybeedragon and Ruru_nz turned around.

Back home, as I am typing this, I had a look at the topomap (Topo50-CF14 Clydevale, downloadable from linz.govt.nz) for this area. I reckon that with a bit more sophisticated gear (topomap, compass, walking stick) it is possible to follow this stream (river?) all the way to Whitelea road. You could then walk back to the start over the road. Personally, I would pack a lunch and take my sweet time. Hrmm, might come back to give that a go.

Lastly, I like taybeedragons suggestion of a cache at (or closer to) the actual falls. Hrmm.

In any event, this cache brought me to a fantastic solitary place that - without it - I probably would not have heard of nor visited. Ever. Thank you very much, Muzzer.

#19043. The steps / stile at the start of the "track" looked pretty ancient, so we probably wouldn't had tried the track even if we had had time. TFTC.

05-Dec-20
Found with StreetWalkerNZ as we slowly make our way north from Invercargill. We encountered a bit of rain in Gore, but luckily it cleared up and we were able to carry on caching Smile.
Found while taking the scenic route to Balclutha. No time to look for the falls today, but reading Taybeedragon's log, maybe it was just as well! TFTC,

13-Nov-20
Well the sign here was lying in the paddock. Got the cache tagged. Cheers. Now those falls. I like waterfalls so thought I would give it a go. Well what track but followed the creek through the long grass. Forgot to take my GPS to work out how far I was. Came across a bluff with lots of flattis rocks with no visable track so gave up as a bad joke. Maybe put a cache at the falls!!.

Friday 13. Balcultha to Gore and back. Another long day with Gore on the agenda. But got sidetracked with back to basics with the ABC series. So lets hit the road!

Toby, Zara and I are on a 3 week geo adventure of Cromwell, Southland, Catlins, Balclutha with a day in Dunedin and quick stop in Timaru. With Lenny, my trusty navigator and TBD my companion/mascot. we managed to visit lots of green boxes, now happy faces with the odd sad one. Did some LABs , earth caches, virtuals and wherigos, all chucked into the mix to rack up 500 odd caches. Lots of kilometers, lots of exploring and lots of fun. Thanks to all COs for our wonderful experience.

No luck today despite thorough search.

04-Aug-20
Found on way to Balclutha. Enjoying the caches. Slowly making my way home

26-Feb-20
Found this afternoon while taking our sweet time to travel through to Dunedin. Initial search came up empty but after searching a little deeper, the realisation that there was another level to this became apparent and the cache was quickly located. The log book was quite wet but still able to be signed. TFTC, the creek must have been ferocious recently looking at the high tide mark on the landscape nearby! [^]

Day Two Of Our Journey to South Island With Squirrel Nutcase
The huge rain falls that had arrived a couple of days ago have now passed. Amazed as to how quickly the area has dried out.
On one DNF today due to the cache been washed away by the high river levels.
Another good day, thanks to cache placements and successfully arrived in Dunedin tonight.
Thanks to all the Cache Owners for these placements.

With Fap and Gap... Late last year, we started to plan for a trip to the South Island - The goal was to complete the TMGT trail.

Invercargill - Dunedin: Gap had some solved puzzles in the area, and we were suckered into driving this big loop road by the volume of caches along it... Not a 'Bob' cache at all. A lot of water has passed through this gully and we wondered if we would find the cache. Yes, this one is well placed and the hide is secure - A bit damp, but the logbook seems to be well protected. Thanks Muzzer and TFTC.

Sneaked away early from work on a quick road trip. Second week of school holidays required a change of scenery for us all .
Tracking down the last pieces of the Mystery at the Musuem puzzle, hoping to be able to crack the case.
Found with Downsouthinv, Abbykitt, sunny900 and loveheart900.

A day off work for the last day of the school holidays so a road trip to the east cost.
So we loaded up Abbykitt and sunny900 and squeeze lovehart900 in some as well I think !? Is very quiet back there.
So we loaded up the cache mobile and headed east . On route we managed to out run the rain and as we approached the cost the sun greeted us .
So where to start ?? so the voice from the directors seat let's try this one and then that one .
So left here and right there ,left ,right, and right again. .
We soon got to where we need to be and the surch started .
A holiday road trip with annielin and Abbykitt and sunny900 an lovehart900.
A quick search soon had the goods in hand sign log and returned.
Thanks for the hide

A quick park and grab while out about grabbing a few caches down this way. A nice and easy find and on to the next one. TFTC

07-Sep-18
Dropped trackable hopefully it won’t be too long till someone comes this way with Natalie’s A to Z series on the roads nearby.
Looked wet under foot so I did not walk up to the falls. I don’t have the correct footwear on. Maybe if I’m back this way I will.

17-Jul-18
Found while chauffeuring Ruru_nz and getting some driving practice.

17-Jul-18
On a road trip, chauffeured by Saethwr as she gets some more driving experience. This is a good run to get further on my quest to find the world turtle.
Stopped here as we gather up Bob's series. A bit of water in the cache and in the bag, but log book was only a little damp. Dried out as best we could an placed in the driest place we could.
Aiming to do the walk, but will see how wet it is underfoot. May have to return another day for that!
We made it to falls about 350m in a straight line from the cache. Is this the one? Couldn't get to anywhere for a good view though.
Thanks for the smilie Muzzer.

Quick roadside find

Down South for a geocaching day trip with the main intention being A - Z please Bob. Found this in amongst the letters and it was a nice quick find. Dropped off a TB. TFTC

Haven't been on a caching "dawn raid" for ages! Set off before sun-up to clean up the Blockbuster A-Z series around South Otago. Early on Easter Monday proved an excellent time to do so as, away from SH1, there was just nobody around. On way home the traffic was heavy heading south out of Dunedin. Apparently some second-rate musician had done a few concerts over the weekend in town, which generated a few visitors. All 26 A-Z caches found, plus this one at Kaihiku Falls. All the side-roads were pretty much new to me so that was a bonus. Thoroughly enjoyable outing. TFTC.

31-Mar-18
A bit wet and windy. Have to return to walk down to the falls. Tftc

21-Mar-18
Been almost to the start of these gravel roads and up and over to the Pommy, now I know where the roads go round. Found the pot and SL while some stuff was done to clean it up. Thanks for the cache mate.

21-Mar-18
Stopped after the bridge. Found the wet cache and after stapling the logsheets together wiped the water out of the cache. Not too much time to walk to the falls with a few tractors on the road and the trail awaits. TFTC Muzzer, noice back yard.

Found, yep overgrown and a bit damp.

24-Feb-18
Overgrown isn't it?

14-Feb-18
Good little hiding spot here. My presence disturbed a flock of pigeons from under the bridge and they all took to the air. TFTC # 11,929

07-Feb-18
After signing the cache I started off for the falls but then decided against it as the stream I wasn't sure if the 500m included all the bends in the stream or not. A suggestion to encourage people to walk to the falls would be to put in the co-ordinates for them as a way point.

04-Feb-18
Great day out caching in the area, lot of neat caches, and interesting spots. many thanks the cache - Bitsprayer

04-Feb-18
Another stop, another satisfying find, really enjoying being passenger and taking in the countryside.
Thanks

30-Jan-18
Cache all good with low water level decided not to walk in to the falls, cache all good. TFTC

16-Jan-18
A fairly quick find, although the hint needs to be treated with caution. Too hot (35 degrees) to walk to the falls today. TFTC

Another new cache in the area thanks Muzzer. I wasn’t able to grab this one straight away so was surprised when after work last night it hadn’t already been found. i took the nice easy drive to the area and found plenty of safe parking around the cache. After that things didn’t quite go to plan. My first attempt at looking came up short, couldn’t find the thing anywhere. so i retreated back to the car, and had to submit to reading the hint, this time i headed back and almost missed it again! Not sure what the problem was, it shouldn’t have been that hard! I didn’t know there was a waterfall around here. I will be back with the camera one day. Thanks for the cache, The Roaming Haywards.
