From June 06, 2018 until March 06, 2019, Geocaching HQ conducted an [Augmented Reality (AR) experiment](https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=127&pgid=921). During that time, cache owners were allowed to submit Mystery Caches that required the finder to download and use an AR app to find the cache. The goal of the experiment was to see how the geocaching community would use AR technology. Cache owners placed more than 600 AR caches around the world!Unfortunately, the AR apps which met HQs requirements for the experiment have been or are currently in the process of being discontinued. As a result, it is currently not possible for finders to have the AR experience that was originally intended. Therefore, **HQ has decided to archive all active AR caches placed during the experiment period**. We are respectfully requesting that all AR cache owners please remove the cache container and contents as soon as possible. As technology evolves, we look forward to seeing how Augmented Reality might have future applications for geocaching. Thank you to all cache owners who participated in the experiment!
Tried to do this on Saturday but couldnt get the Metaverse app to work. Ive done similar caches using the same app some time ago but the app wanted us to scan a code. Tried deleting and reinstalling with same results.
After spending half the day finishing off some mega business in Narre Warren, it was time for a spot of caching.
Haven’t done an AR for a while so we thought we’d give this one a go. Lots of fun meeting all these friendly creatures.
Thanks for bringing us here by placing this cache, Team Crackers

Entering the Metaverse for the first time and we were pleasantly surprised that it is far more friendly than a few other Augmented Realities. The journey was simple, fun and rewarding.
Thanks for the experience Team Crackers. Much appreciated.

In the area bright and early to pick-up something purchased from gumtree (ammo box). After getting my shoes absolutely soaked from the wet grass I got the log stamped!

Clicked on the link at GZ and wasn’t working just a blank page ( will have to come back another time
Got this the other day but am shocking for logging. Thanks for the walk, even though my shoes are covered in mud now
Found at 3:52 pm.
Work had strongly encouraged everyone to take more annual leave so I took a couple of days off and did well on the weather timing. Today was perfect. I went for a drive to avenge a DNF I had plus then do a bit of free-styling plus a visit to my mum's place for lunch. All round a great day.
This park was deserted today so after a short walk and a good laugh at the elephant music I soon had the cache in hand and that's real bird poo on the cache too by the way. Excellent camo.
Thanks Team Crackers for the cache, the adventure, the hunt and the fun.

Found it. I really need to get better with my compass directions. Had lots of fun finding it with my son.

Find #11,000
After parkrun this morning and meeting up with beckNmonts at the event in Berwick, I made the very quick decision to make this AR cache my #11,000 milestone. bNm had already done it, so left me to go solo. A worthy cache for a milestone indeed, great fun and made me smile. 1 FP coming your way!!

Many thanks to Team Crackers for the cache. TNLN.

I am rather fond of these AR_ caches now, this having been the second one that I have done. Well with the power being down at work and my work is limited to the computer, my boss "decided" to give me the day off...... awesome, time to grab some caches before I head home today.
Avoiding the morning showers I managed to arrive towards the end of it. Soon enough with minimal hiccups with the app I was off and running. Thanks for the cache and the mini-adventure.

Enjoy with Metaverse game while walk around at Sweeney Reserve not far from my place. Cool cache. Thanks Team Crackers for placing it and bringing me here.
This was a lot of fun. My 12 year old struggled with the app but a very fun find. Thank you!
Caching in the area we picked up a few caches and this was one of them.
An enjoyable walk in the area and an easy find at GZ, a great cache hide. Cache and contents were in good condition and adding to our favourites.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.

I was out this way doing a couple of Adventure Lab caches this afternoon and managed to try a few others along the way as well. Having headed from Cranbourne to Berwick I was now heading back towards Dandenong. I remembered this one and decided to come by and take a look. Had to wait for a dog walker to pass before I got started but after that everything worked seamlessly for me and I was able to make the find. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log and visited some trackables. Thanks for the cache Team Crackers. A great effort to set another up using this format.

What a cool idea! Out with the Welder for a bite to eat and as we were near this cache, we decided to stop by. He had been telling me of these AR caches but I was yet to do one! Loved it, thanks for the cache!

After having done a nearby trail, we couldn't leave this area without having a look at this cache - and we were glad we did. Having never done an AR cache before, it was nice to see a different dimension to a multi. We followed the advice and the cat spat up the goods. Log signed (clever little hide) and a new experience completed. Thanks Team Crackers. Favourite from us.

Our first AR cache find. Well it took a bit of patience and a few reloads but we eventually worked our way through to find a good sized well camouflaged cache. Thanks for the experience and the cache. TTBLNSL. TFTC. KKams
I have seen a few AR caches around but I had not tried one yet - this was my first! I wasnt sure how the app was going to work but the instructions were clear and everything went as planned! Towards the end when I was asked for the password I was confused with the number of words required and had to backtrack - but this was soon rectified. A quick walk and easy find at GZ made for a wonderful experience. Thankyou for all the work creating this cache, Im sure it must be a lot of work. I will be doing as many AR caches as I can now - thanks Team Crackers and a fave from me

The Omen and I were enjoying a quiet, cooler day after yesterday's heat. But a yearning need to do something active drew us here. The name of the cache was all I needed to know it was going to be perfect for The Omen.
Little did I know that I was also about to have my very first AR experience too!!!
We arrived on site and downloaded the required software. I always feel a little lost when trying out new tech, and this was no exception.
That was until we ran into Skippy!!
Wow! We weren't expecting that!! And, oh no... he'd lost his toy box... Of course, we'll help!!
The Omen and I were completely fascinated and enchanted on our curious journey in the deserted park.
With a little bribery, we were able to extract the coordinates and locate the cache.
The Omen loved the making this discovery. And after we'd signed in and began our walk back to the car, he was full of countless questions about where the animals had gone...!!
Thanks Team Crackers
This was very cool.
I can't wait to do more ARs

This is our first AR cache and we thoroughly enjoyed this new experience. The software worked well, we interacted with the animals and found the well camo cache.
Thanks for the fun Team Crackers and can’t wait to do more of this type of cache.

Found at 7 December 2018 4:07 pm with The Swaggies. I need to do a few more before commenting about Metaverse.
Out and about with Yorsys today after a hiatus of about 6 months. We teed up the day a week earlier not realising the temp today however we decided to keep going with the plan and if it got to hot we could pull the pin and go to the pub.
So onto our first AR cache. An interesting experience somewhat similar to our experience with Wherigo caches. I did not have any technical problems with the app or my Chinese Apple phone, but what would have been good was some way of transposing the finals into c:geo. But an interesting experience all the same and we look forward to doing some more of these caches.

A trip to Melbourne for work, I'm guessing since I can't get my electronic calendar to now go back that far but since it was a mid week drive down and then a drive back on Sunday. I'd have to say that it was probably the time of our programs' All Staff Day catch up and Christmas lunch
Rex and I were in Melbourne/Frankston/Berwick area for 5 days and managed to find 24 caches during that time
We found some Whereigos , some AR caches , some puzzles , some multis , some trads and we got to spend some time with a lovely geocacher [:X] (even if we did keep her up until 3am )
I even managed to finish all of the caches in the Wilson's Botanic Park and that is a tad bittersweet as now I have no more cache incentive to return there
Finally on the way home we spent some extended time finishing off the Light Horse Memorial puzzle cache at Seymour[^] At long last and yet what a lovely and historical area to have been wandering in on sunset and dusk! [^]
As I have been about 8 months behind in logging, I'm resorting to template logs to catch up.
My heartfelt thanks to the COs who have placed some tricky, funny, exercise required, scary, interesting and devious caches in some amazing spots! [^]
Rex and I have had some amazing adventures and enjoyed some incredible moments thanks to this fantastic hobby

When chatting at the recent Parkville Mega, I was asked, what area we were from. I answered SE Melbourne Berwick/ Pakeham area and their reply was OH CRACKERS side of town So when I was searching for caches to for with more than 10 fav points we zeroed in on this one for an afternoon trot after school. We have tried 2 ARs before with not much luck, with gliches and the battery just seems to drain. This one worked a treat, easy to follow the "kid" had a ball and the find equally fun. It's still so nice to see my youngest son enjoy the hunt and this one ticked all the boxes for him. Thanks again for a great set up and placement.

This one suit me - enjoyed myself - Crank1 found the cache before me... Thanks Team Crackers for the cache and hunt.
This was my second AR cache that I have attempted and after sorting out my location not being detected I was happily being greeted by the characters. Early afternoon on a Thursday was an ideal time to visit with the area completely deserted. After a bit of a wander I was at GZ and after a little looking spotted the fantastic camo. I took the two TBs that were in residence and left three more in their place. This was a fun experience and a favourite point is duly awarded for the both the AR and the container.

In Melbourne for a fun filled weekend of caching with beckNmonts, pin pointing multi's and letterboxes with the added bonus of a few new exciting AR caches, which we have been recently introduced to.
Our first cache of the day led us to the park to meet Skippy's friends while in disguise as kids lol Well, not really as I don't think we got away with it, but luckily Skip's friends were not discriminative and still showed us where we could find the kiddy loot.
Thanks Team Crackers for this innovative cache, we really hope AR's are around for the long term as they are so much fun to play.

After a failed attempt at the other AR nearby due to technical problems, we came here and enjoyed Eddie’s dancing the most. Geogirl was totally fooled by the cammo. But found and logged. We left 2 trackables that others can now continue the travels with.

Found with PapaGrouch and SciFiRulz. Enjoyed fluffing around talking to the animals. Hope to see more of these ones. TFTC
Found as Nicnax with PapaGrouch and WeRAmused. I chose this cache as my 2000th find as I like to try and get something a little different for milestone caches if I can. Enjoyed the AR experience and the well camoed hide. TFTC
Found with Eliott Geoson after completing Fern's Treasure Recovery AR cache the previous day. Worked very smoothly and my son enjoyed guiding us to visit the animals and answering their questions. Made a few swaps.
What a difference a new phone makes! I had a lot of trouble keeping my old phone alive to do the last AR cache. This time I put a power pack and charging cable in my pocket, but I had no issues at all with the battery! I enjoyed talking to all the animals. I’m a little concerned that the cat changed from a tabby to a British Blue, but everybody know cats are special and can do these things. I was going to give a favourite point for the elephant parting scene alone, but then I just had to for the hide as well! A fantastic cache! Thanks for making them at my level Team Crackers. P.S. I need to go back tomorrow and make sure I signed the log. I am 99% sure I did, but somebody phoned me right as I was doing so, so I’m also having flashbacks of putting it back without stamping/writing. I’m pretty sure it’s so automated that I would have signed, but I’m doubting myself.
I hate to waste a lovely sunny day, so I came to the next cache on my list. At first I was worried it would take me too long to figure out, but once I got started it was so easy. Thank goodness Im a big kid at heart. I enjoyed the walk and especially the cache. LOVED IT. Swapped some swag and signed the log. Thankyou kindly for a fun adventure. Fav pt added #foundit 410

As I was in the area tonight and had not yet completed an AR cache I decided to give this one ago. Being a animal lover especially of Cats I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Not what I was expecting at GZ. I was pleasantly surprised. A favourite point from me.

Out this morning and midday chasing a few caches with a difference, AR_ caches (and few gap fillers on the way).
Neat, everyone else in the park thinks I'm an idiot but that's OK, they're probably right All worked well and I had the prize in hand pretty quickly. Loved it, thanks for the effort in putting this together guys, a favorite from me.

After completing the other AR in the area, I headed over to this one next.
This one flowed nicely and the zones are set out a little better than the previous one, this one is very similar to the one around the ZOO just a bit smaller, it is a good one for the kids.
After receiving the final coordinates, I headed over and found a nicely camoed cache container.

The kids loved this one. Please HQ don’t archive these styles of cache - they are awesome. Thanks Team Cracker for the amazing effort put into at AR Cache. It was lovely to meet you both at the Fathers Day event this morning
Another team at an event this morning advised us to try this cache today as it may soon be gone (although we hope NOT) and there was treasure we were seeking (promotional supermarket collectables).
Really getting into the spirit with the kids we did voices like a script, we handed out “invisible” food to feed our new friends and we pretended we were actually on safari. The younger kids had an absolute ball- and laughed at the jokes (well past the jokes had finished).
The treasure in the final cache was very much appreciated and we only swapped for ones we didn’t own already. Plenty there for the next team!
The cache is in our top ten caches of all time. Super favourite point for you Team Crackers! Thank you very, very much!

I wanted a cache to meet my target of 12 caches for the year. This was the closest to home so off I went. 2nd to Find, the log is signed, but I think I cheated (well actually I did), I will PM the CO separately to confess my sins. TFTC. TNLN. PS> as usual love the camo, if I hadn't cheated I would give it a fav for the camo, but well
With it being the father's day weekend, my daughter wanted to do something that I enjoy as a family. So we thought we would go geocaching. Didn't think a DGS cache was appropriate and since it was my daughter's idea, this new kids cache was quickly chosen.
When we left home, it wasn't exactly a nice day, but it wasn't overcast, windy and changing between drizzling and raining like at Sweeney Reserve. But we started anyway with our 10 year old daughter holding the phone and leading the way. She loved reading out the options and doing the animal's voices in character when she remembered. Her laughter of some of the options was contagious.
Overall we enjoyed the whole AR caching experience today. Certainly a favourite and only could have been improved by better weather, but can't blame the CO for that. Thanks for the great adventure and cache Team Crackers

**Find #3153**
**Mystery Cache Find #478**
When I completed my first AR cache yesterday, I had no idea that I'd be attempting my second a day later and that it would be a FTF hunt too. When this cache was published, the thought of tackling the peak hour traffic was unbearable so I resigned myself to having to let it go. As the hours passed, I was the only one watching the cache and so after dinner, I headed out.
Soccer training was in full swing but the CO had positioned all parts of this cache far from the playing fields which I, as a solo male cacher very much appreciated.
I had no trouble with the game and remembered to record each clue as it was presented to me. I photographed each screen using an old mobile phone rather than risk taking a screen capture in case the latter caused the app to crash.
It took me a little longer than it should have to find the cache but when I spotted it, I knew is was the cache. A typical quality Team Crackers hide.
I left all the swag for the kids. I was quite happy to come away with my first FTF on an AR cache.
