Time to archive this cache as the area has now logged of all the trees.

While attending anytars event this morning it was mentioned that a few cachers wanted to do the night cache. Anytar had tried to do the cache last night and reported that some of the markers were missing. Time for a maintenance check. Arranged with reneml to meet and check that the cache was still ok. After finding the fourth marker was missing we followed the rest of the trail until we came to a grinding halt. Something missing!!! All the trees were gone!! The council had started logging operations in this block. I assisted reneml in getting to the final which was still in place. I will disable the cache until logging has finished and replace the missing markers so everyone can complete the cache.

Joined the tourist (renelm) and CO (Granville) for a bit of night caching in the local forest. Rumour had there has been a bit of machinery activity nearby recently.
Turned out the activity is logging (of the lumber kind), and it has effected at least three caches.
Nice night for a torchlight walk in the trees

Met up with CO and mrchosen here, for me and mrchosen to find this nightcache and for granville to do maintenance as he'd heard there might be a missing reflector somewhere..

Turned out the rumours were true, but the puzzle WP had been eaten by forrest workers too.. yikes!
CO provided us with the coordinates for the final, which was quickly located.

Thankd for the tour! Nightcaches always get FPs Wink

Found at 21:42 - #8067 - on a 5 week trip in New Zealand

City Forests Limited are active in the area!
So, it won’t matter what size torch you have, as the lumberjacks have felled some marker trees

28-Oct-18
The cache will be disabled until the logging operations have finished and I can replace the markers and the field puzzle at wp1. The logging operations have affected 3 caches in the area. Please keep out of the forest until logging has been completed.

Congratulations!!

3 Guides (all of the unit in 2018) and a brother went out with Ruru_nz, Yardgirl and Saewthr to find this one. We had a good time. See Ruru_nz's log - we took a wrong turn at the end and had a longer trip back to the cars.

With permission I headed to the trees for a night adventure with 3 Guides, a parent (yardgirl) and a sibling along with Saethwr.
The third group to follow the trail, so it's in great shape with no missing markers. Yay!
As we pulled up at the parking just before 6pm another car was behind up. No not one of our group, but a police ute heafing into the forest. Yikes, hope its not something serious. Nope, just training at the pistol club, but that made for interesting sounds while on the trail.
The first marker was soon spotted by the girls and off we went. Many eyes make easy work of finding the markers and after lefts and rights, ups and downs, and a detour to pick up another cache, the final markers were reached. After a bit of a scout around the container was in hand. Worked out how to get the next instructions (no tantrums from any of us!) and off we went. With the help of one final clue left by CO the final container was in hand. Signed and returned, then had to decide how best to head out. The decision wasn't the best one as we ended up on the opposite corner of the block from where we wanted to be. Buggar! Other than that final walk back to the car the girls (and brother) had a great time.
Thanks for the smilie granville86a. Had to be a fav or a well thought out trail with a bit of a twist.

Downsouthinv was desperate to forgoe beauty sleep in the cause of night caching .
Finally he convinced us that the weather was as ambient as it could be in August and timing was right....
Sigh...
So pyjamas had to stay under the pillow for a few more hours...
Off we went... head torches firmly on.. as well as layers of weather appropriate clothing and beanies.
Got to wp2. Then the wheels fell off...
Decision was made to stop the tantrums ...(mine) and head back to start... and await the calvary...
It was all a ploy to wish the CO many happy returns and cop a sneaky feel!
We all set back off..retracing our steps..got to wp2...
Duh... wheels firmly back on with nuts tightened with a rattle gun.
Soon had the elusive cache in hand.. no possums to be concerned about....
Thanks Granville for a fun introduction to night caching and happy birthday to ewe!
Two thumbs up

With torch in hand we waited for darkness to fall .
Pulled on a warm Jersey and a hat along with annielin and Abbykitt.
Got to the car park and a quick check torch , pen,and note book, spare batterys one needs to be prepared .
Off we went yes the rustling in the tops is not the wind but a possum or two.
We manage to get two where we need to go and got a posable gz but something did not add up
A mutiny from with in the ranks so one of the crew start semaphoring for rescue .
A ploy me thinks to get out of trouble. back to recheck the information and this time we had much better set of numbers .
And off to get the pot of gold .
A great night cache A lot of fun .
Fav from me
Thanks Granville

A nice starry night to try my first nighhtcache.
The stars weren't very helpful as we walked the trail twice...luckily we had help from the birthday boy CO.
This was a fun night...even had a caramel sundae afterwards.
Picked up at tb

Starry, starry night
Paint your palette blue and gray
Look out on a summer's day
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul

I wanted to make this whole log rhyme
But I am way too busy, and I ain't got the time...

Arrived after tea, with a truck barelling down the road behind us.
We walked off into the darkness, from the locked gate.
My cheap and nasty headlight from Mega was more than enough...
Although had trouble finding the first, as many distracting bright reflectors shining above.
A perfect winters night for a walk, only saw one local with his reflecting and moving eyes.
Waypoint found easily, and eventually found coords to final.
Found cache, signed our names and left a trackable.
Returning to ute, about a 2km return trip, and about 3/4 hour.
A well deserved Sundae at Maccas after a busy week.
One of the best ever night cache experience, thanks Granville, worth a fave.

Shadows on the hills
Sketch the trees and the daffodils
Catch the breeze and the winter chills
In colors on the snowy linen land...

Came out with TT & SW to do this cache. Pleased I did it with others. My sense of direction at the best of times isn’t that great even in daylight.
Beautiful night for it, there was a huge star out to the west that we seemed to be following. Got to the parking point, put another jacket on, made sure my keys were zipped up in a pocket. Phone, glasses, torch & pen in hand off we went. The truck that came behind us must have wondered what the heck we were up to.
Made a note of the time we started. Must admit doing this others made finding the markers much easier. Didn’t take long to warm up. Got to the waypoint sorted what needed to be sorted then off to the final. Kind of in a straight line. Cache soon found log book signed then back towards the cars.
We did stop & have a look at all the stars that were out. Aaamazing. Thanks for putting this cache out Granville. Favourite point from me

What a stunning night it was! The stars were just magical. A bit chilly, but once we were under the cover of the trees it soon got warmer. Had a couple of furry critters watching as we progressed. Reflectors easily spotted, Took us about 45 mins to finish. This was heaps of fun, more so when there's others with you. Fave point from me, TFTC

Interesting time searching for the markers and LCD reader. OH CRAAAAAAAAP!!!!!!! WHERE IS MY BACKPACK??????? OH CRAP, OH CRAP, OH CRAP!!!!!!!. Surprisingly it was warmer in the forest at night than when out in the open walking from the carpark. As approach was made to the cache site, I laughed out loud. Very appropriate!!
Big brown cache soon in hand and signed log 2ndTF behind SIB in the logbook. Photos and video made of the final cache and WP tucked away in gallery. Swapped out the Aus keyring from the mega for some baubles. Heard about how Annie got waylaid enroute to the WP, help was not far away and search party had been deployed. Didn't need a wery big torch to find the readies, they were wery shiny and new, not like the rusty ones from the other old trails. LCD wp was definitely not the black pendrive found hidden on the other trail. Thanks for placing another cache to earn a smilie on Granville86a, 77th PMO cache in hand.

Ftf 3/8/18 8:19 pm. After tea drove out to the area... Had to wait till it was dark of course... Entered the walk in with the applause of the little creatures. Into the bush first one quickly spotted the next many lost count alot harder but my trusty dolphin brought them to life. Did the field thingy and on to the pot of gold with an empty logbook. Took close on 1 hour to complete. Then back out to the road with the Stars shining brightly and the applause of the little creatures. This is the best night cache I have done. A very big favor point from me. Thanks Granville.
