24 Nov 2024 8:56am. The weather was Overcast Clouds 17C 88% 3 m/s . Found with PamJ on the way to Penola. Thanks fredd0 for your contribution to the game. *Found with [Geooh GO](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobiltal.geoohGO)*
We had a surprise couple of days free so we decided to head across the border in an attempt to find our 10,000th South Australian cache. Happily we achieved that yesterday and today we are doing a few more around the Millicent area before heading to Beachport for the night. We had hoped to be at the Millicent Mega but COV!D 19 put an end to those plans. we even had a permit organized to cross the border revoked four days out. It's now a couple of years later and we are finally finding some of the caches that were put out for the event. and appreciate the effort gone into placing them.We are not Geologists but really enjoy Earth caches and learning a bit from each one.We stopped here and collected what we hope will be good enough answers and have sent them off to the CO.We enjoyed the area and the thinking and research'Many thanks GeoVenture2020 for showing us this location, a favourite point from us.
Travelling with richlink on our Annual Caravan Geocaching road trip, using geocaching as our guide. We are staying at Millicent for the week, finding some of the caches we should have found if we had been able to attend the 2020 Mega. Thanks for the EarthCache Freddo. LNCU.
Travelling with iluvtrekking from our home state of WA on a SA caching foray. Staying in Millicent for a few days to grab some finds placed for the ill fated Mega because of Covid. Visited the location but it is no longer a lookout and growth of vegetation limits viewing of the subject feature. However we have done our best to acquire the necessary answers which have been forwarded to the CO. Thanks for bringing us to this interesting feature.
This lookout hasn't been a lookout for years now and it shows. We were here at the wrong time this afternoon as the sun was messing with our view, but got to see enough. The kids really wanted to ride bikes from the top until i told them it would be more of a tumble than a ride. Very cool bit of history we didn't know about this spot in our backyard. tftc
**Today:**On an epic roadtrip with DSD for the SA Leap Day mega! We woke up in Millicent this morning with a destination of Murray Bridge, via my first ever event in SA at Tailem Bend Motorsport Park, which is up there with the best venues I have attended an event in! The SFE Challenges near Millicent were the first target, before we cherry-picked our way via high DTs and county chasing! Thanks to all COs for an awesome day!**This Cache**The lookout at the listed coordinates isnt really much of a lookout, and the huge pine trees are obstructing a lot of the view of Mount Muirhead. We still did our best to make the observations we could which have been sent off to the CO, and taken our photo as well. Thanks for the EC
This has to be about 30 plus earthcaches in the last 5 days. Loci612 will send the answers for us both. Thanks for creating this earthcache. Photos will be added to log asap.
TFTC! 30 December 2023 3:41:22pm 6980Thanks for highlighting another interesting feature in the area. We are really enjoying learning about each of the parts! Lookout is gone, and the pine trees make it hard to see but we moved to a few spots to answer this cache!
I came here today chasing earth caches on my way to mt gambier. The pine trees have grown a lot so it’s hard to see but I got a good look driving up to the mountain.

This is something that we would have otherwise driven straight past and been none the wiser. Thanks for the stop and information with the placing of this cache.
Unfortunately, the pine trees have grown somewhat but always happy to stop and attempt an earthcache. Thank you for bringing us here with this one.
Found by Rebel Acts in the company of The Empire, we were also joined by local hevwalker who helped us out with some required equipment for the days caching.
With it being School holidays in Victoria I had some time spare to head to Millicent where I teamed up with the Empire for a few days caching in the area, we had a fantastic time exploring the area. Today we tackled the The finding fish and DRB trails and a few other none trail caches that we past along the way. Then it was just the two of us to do the whine bottle before heading back into town for Dinner at the Pub for hevwalkers Birthday.
This is one of the caches found today. A great Earth cache location. Answers sent in by the Empire.
Thanks Freddo for the Earth cache.

Another day in sunny Millicent of caching goodness. A busy morning on the trails with hevwalker, Rebel and I were now on our own - collecting the wine bottle series before it got too dark. On our way home, we were happy to check out this traditional cache/earthcache combo. Answers sent to CO, a really cool geological feature with an amazing traditional story. Thanks for the cool earthcache GeoVenture2020.

Based in Millicent for a few days, this morning we were out and about in the company of our great caching mates Suscoe. It was a change to be out in calm weather, in the Rendelsham area. Earth caches always attract us - they are a great way to learn about the geology & history of our caching playground.
Logged with a tick from the C.O.
Thanks fredd0 for creating an interesting earthcache.

Over in SA again with a cut down group of geocaches compared to last time. We felt it was time this group of Victorians found some Millicent caches, as we were banned from the mega! We are signing the logs as Vic1. Thanks for the sometimes challenging caches fredd0!
Found by Mary and David, in company with McLookers, beckNmonts, Alansee, muzza, and Rabbitto (signing as VIC1), at at 08:48. Day 4 of our trip, planned to tackle the many caches around Millicent, as we'd been locked down last year and unable to attend GV2020. Group answers submitted by Rabbitto. Our thanks to fredd0.

Found with a team consisting of BecknMonts, McLookers, Maccamob, Rabbitto, and Muzza. This was our fourth and final day in the area and it was still cold. Today was another fun day caching although it would have been far better to have been able to come to the Mega. Many thanks to the CO's for the placements.

A second big day of geocaching with Ghosty7 and OZGrumpy with the main aim being to get as many types in a day as possible. The weather was against us for parts of the day, but we rose to the challenge and I believe we got eleven.
This was the Earthcache contender; sure hope we get a pass! Lots of Earthcache in this part of the state. Thanks in advance Freddo.

Shared the location with the lovely Noodlers and we worked on the answers together. These were sent on behalf of myself and Sea_Eagle. Im sure we visited many years ago when the platform was still there. When the sun finally came out (5/10) it emerged as an impressive sight. THTEC
Today's focus was to find 12 different types of caches in one day and this was one of them
Went out with Otter61 and Oz Grumpy and much laughter and frivolity and hard work was to be had by all - oh ok so the hard work isn't so true but the fun and frivolity happened - TYFTC

Saw this mountain from the GeoVenture Mega showground site and thought we'd head for the hills to see what it was. A great view from the lookout + a nearby trad found and then observations were made of the EC and answers submitted to the CO. Thanks for the EC!
Day 5 of our stay in Millicent for the Mega event. Today we attended the CITO and celebration event at Penola and cached along the way with a few friends.
51 finds for today and 380 for the trip.
Interesting location here except there doesn’t look to be a lookout here anymore. Answer sent to CO.

Found at 9:14 during a fantastic extended weekend away with Shonkylogic and Southern Cross Caching. We had grand plans to complete swathes of powertrails and solved puzzles, but the weather slowed us down a bit. Even so, it was a lot of fun, and we passed my goal - to get my 9000th find
Friday, day 1, had us driving and caching from morning in Adelaide until the 6pm event in Millicent.
Day 2 focussed on the fishing series, wine bottle, and numerous other caches in that vicinity.
Day 3 was our slowest, due to the worse weather, but still a lot of fun.
Day four, after doing SFE series and nearby caches, plus those we passed, I arrived home at about 8pm, after finding my 9000th cache along the way.
Great to catch up with many of the usual faces, some others we hadn't seen for a long time, and a few new faces too.
Thanks for the hides

Cats, monkeys and bats aren't known for their geology skills, but we had a look around at the pretty mountain and sent our attemped answers to the CO. It's getting colder here. An oven might be nice!!!
Looking forward to the most anticipated ever mega down this way soon
Many thanks to fredd0 for setting up this educational cache for us all

This cache was found using some or all of the resources of GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife), Garmin Montana 750i, Montana 680t, Etrex 35, Samsung S20+, Samsung S9, with Geocaching App, c:Geo, or Geooh Go, and Android Auto and other maps... or sometimes with just plain old dumb luck!

Stay safe when caching. Watch for snakes, random cliffs, wild goats, and lightning,
but especially lookout for bugs. [xx(]
Make sure Travel Bugs are the only ones you share and pass on
2020 turned into 2020won, and 2020too is on the way! 2020free should see us through
Still important to observe social distancing when possible, (150 nano caches apart should do it)
Still important to wash your hands (always has been really [:o)]
Still very important to look after each other and take precautions & get checked out for even the tiniest sniffle or cough, or unexpected headache! [8)] [B)]
Still even more important to get some fresh air and exercise while we can, so get out and cache the country!
Thanks to all those placing caches out and about away from the city crowds,
keeps our game safe and interesting

So we did it, we took the plunge and early last year made arrangements to sell our little hobby farm in South Gippsland and ‘do a big lap’.
No full lap is complete without a lap of the little island first.
So after tidying up our affairs and putting everything into storage, we celebrated Christmas with our families and hit the road.
We recently spent 7 magnificent weeks in beautiful Tasmania, then we just did a quick trip down the west coast of boring old Victoria, making our way to South Australia, crossing the border before Covid strikes again.
Looking forward to slowing things down as we spend time in SA with no return date planned.
Thanks for being one of the CO’s who supplied us with a cache to do on the way.
This one was most enjoyable.

The great Southeast Saunter down to the Millicent area was over. Back to my 2020 caching goals. Only one of the three set at the start of the year was now possible and should be complete by Christmas. [^] So pressure off and back to caching when and where the whimsy takes me whilst I ponder some targets for next year.
I had to go to Naracoorte for some work on the car. Yes it is a long way from home but they are family and can do with the business. Hey what do you know I am three quarters of the way back to Millicent where some interesting D/T ratings have been published after we left. [^] May as well go for a "little" detour on the way home. [:o)]
After finding the cache at the lookout I cast my mind to this earthcache. [8)]
The answers were sufficient to get the tick from the CO and so I am able to log it.
Funny what we call mountains wouldn't even qualify as a hill in some countries!
***Thanks fredd0 for putting out this cache and maintaining it for our enjoyment. ***

Found with Mattycat and Sabastbat while geocaching our way out of town, lovely views from gz a few trees spoil it a little but when you drive out of town you really see it from another perspective.
In Millicent for the long weekend and to attend the Geoventure 2020 Celebration Event..oh and to cache of course! Today was also a number building exercise to get us to our next milestone of 5000. At the listed coordinates we looked out for the lookout but the lookout clearly wasn;t looking out and didnt see the workman with their chainsaws who were on the lookout for rogue lookouts and promptly removed the lookout so no lookout was looked out from today.....however we could see Mount Muirhead. perhaps not as clearly as if the lookout had looked out for the lookout removing workmen..so we have sent the answers as best as we could make them out to the CO's TFTC[8)][8)]

Earth Cache is pretty awesome. It’s a credit to those who send us in search of the wonders around our local communities
Sad the old lookout is no longer, it used to be such a great place to visit with tourists and show them not only the incredible views but the astonishing Lady birds that were in abundance.
A favourite photo from years gone by was one I took of my daughter at this location and her wonderment of the lady birds and them delighting her by running onto her hands.
Thanks for reminding me of such a beautiful memory.

We had a great day today caching with dear friends FelixII and we had nice weather to boot
The plan was to make an assault on the GV2020 series of caches and any others we might have time for.
For some we needed special TOTTs and for others we needed special brains
Sincere thanks to the Geoventure Mega committee for all their hard work in setting up this series and to the other teams who owned the extra caches we found
Answers will be sent to the CO.

Now in Millicent again today we joined up with Sylken for a full on day of caching. We planned for a big day out caching today in advance of the coming rain event!
A big day indeed with 108 finds from 110 searches! A great day in great company and some purely amazing fund caches and some purely evil caches!
Just a fabulous day to be out and about. [^]
We really appreciate the work put in by the GeoVenture committee and teams but alas with the rescheduling of the event (Thanks to Covid-19) we are no longer able to attend the Mega Event so have made our way south to tackle the caches and visit the region.
This was quite tough but answers sent to CO

This was quite tough but answers sent to CO

The long weekend planned to cache around Millicent with sharkiefan.
Heading home I was on my own again.
Ol' tom tom had me at a 4 hour trip, yeah right, there still caches in my way......
I came up here for this Earth Cache and the Lookout sadly the Lookout has been knocked over but the earth cache still stands.
Looking through the trees I managed to get my answers and send them off to CO.

Day 289
Sir_spectre and I wanted one more trip down to the south east before the Mega arrived and this was a great opportunity to find some geocaching artwork as well as get some of the higher terrain that have been published. An event was a bonus we were not expecting to get to but the caching gods allowed us to get there.
Thanks to Freddo from mogni

personally i am liking all these new earth caches that have been published before the mega event. mogni has/will sent the answers.
Back down to Mount Gambier with Mogni. She wanted to do mainteneance on some of her caches. Day 2 saw us clean the newly published geo art ( which already has 2 throw down mint tins on it ) and any other caches that we passed. Any containers that needed maintenance were fixed and any log books that needed replacing or that where almost full where replaced with the mega coming. Also any small container had extra scroll placed in it for the coming mega in 4 weeks.

Since I cant make the Mega, I am in Millicent for a couple of days to try and clear the map TFTC

After staying the night in Millicent I attended the CITO in town before slowly making my way home via some caches in the backroads.
Thanks for the Cache

Forgot to log this one when we did it way back in January but when your steak is finished due to coronavirus what better thing to do than go back and log earthcaches you have visited but not logged?
We weren’t entirely sure of answers but will submit what we think.
TFTC! Will the Geoventure be on? Will the CV-19 madness be over by then? Who knows.

Visited the Craitbul's Ovens Earthcache to do the research during a recent trip to South-eastern South Australia and western Victoria. Answers sent to the CO. Thanks for an interesting Earthcache Geoventure2020!
Found on the final day of a caching trip with FeatherWaite from Adelaide to south-western Victoria/south-eastern South Australia, and the final day of the year!
After rolling the swags out overnight near Mount Gambier, we made our way to Millicent then back home via the Coorong, picking up some caches we had targeted, together with a few opportunistic finds along the way.
Fortunately the hot and windy weather had eased off and we enjoyed a cooler day in the low to mid-twenties - perfect for caching!
In all it was a good day, with finds on a nice selection of traditional, unknown, letterbox, multi and earthcaches.
Is this a mountain or a molehill?
Thanks Freddo for the earthcache.

Stopped by whilst down this way.
Made some notes and promptly lost them! Recovered the notes and sent the answers about 6 months later, whoops. All clear to log now.
Thanks for the EC.

Should we be standing on the structure when it is clearly in a state of disrepair, with hazard tape across the ramp?
Answers to be sent with other EC answers of same CO.

Found It!
Looked at the mountain from the lookout. Looks like a mountain to me. Hard to pick that it was once a volcano. The questions were answered and sent off.

Found with Team Waldron when visiting Millicent for the day. We had just found 90 caches in a series so we were pleased to do a different cache Team Waldron spotted this one quickly so we moved on to the next adventure. TFTC
Mt Muirhead has always been part of my life as I am a local born and bred..! Never ventured to climb it but some of my family have...When Travelling back home one can see it from miles away..A local icon...Answers to be sent to CO ASAP...Had to log it straight away so as not to forget
I have lived in the Millicent area for the last nearly 20yrs and have heard many stories about Mount Muirhead but I haven't followed through any research on it. Thankyou for helping me get to know the science and geology of the area in which I live everyday in my depth. TFTEC
We visited Millicent after a weekend at Mt Gambier on our way home. Along this road was this interesting Earthcache. There was a good road to get off the main road, but the viewing platform was under construction or repair, so I couldn’t get up there to see the view from where the CO probably expected me to do the cache from. I found a spot down the hill a fraction, beside the cluster of seedling trees where I could get a good view of the hill on the other side of the road. There was also a good view of Millicent there. The questions were good for thought and I had to dig my old school protractor to do measurements of the photos I took, which is why I didn’t do the log or send my answers earlier. Thanks for providing an Earthcache here.
Went past this very green mountain today and looked at the structure & make-up. I was with GV2020 committee when this spot was discovered and the earthcache "placed"
Today was my final day during a weekend in Mount Gambier and its surrounds. My scuba diving was canceled for the day, so rather than head back to Adelaide early, I did some geocaching targeting some of the longer unfound caches, and a few in the region that I needed for my Jasmine grid. After some maintenance to some existing caches, I headed south to Lake Bonney and visit Carpenter Rocks, Pelican Point, and Blackfellows Caves. It was then back on to Millicent and cut through the area towards Penola collecting geocaches along those hills and roads. Finally, some driving around the backroads off Naracoorte to visit Joanna to collect some early hidden caches.
A visit to find this traditional cache and complete the EarthCache. A nice lookout, and surprised to see no information or signs here. The lookout was off limits today and taped off, so had to try to answer the EarthCaches from the parking area. I never knew the reference to Craitbul as I had seen that name in other themed caches around the Mount Gambier area, so good to have now known, thanks GeoVenture2020.

On a road trip to Millicent with CPwanderer and Gizmo's Gang we stopped to find a few caches to break up the trip. [^]
After finding the traditional cache here we studied Mt Muirhead and formulated our answers to the questions and CP sent them off to the CO and got a prompt response.

A nice view from the lookout of the volcano and surrounding area. Answers sent to CO via GC message.
It was frigging cold, so I didn't hang around too long in the dwindling afternoon light and headed for some warm lodgings.

Suscoe enjoyed a day out in the Millicent area today.
We had a great day out with lovely weather again.
The roads were quiet and the caches were in good numbers.
It is dry but beautiful country with the green of the pines and the colors of the cattle and sheep and the dry grass.
Thanks to GeoVenture2020 for this Earth Cache.
An interesting Geological lesson and we enjoyed this.

An interesting shaped hill. The back and front angles had me thinking. Much discussion ensued and some answers agreed on after we figured our east and wests!!
