We hope you enjoyed exploring and discovering the local history in the communities of Aotearoa New Zealand. The Tuia Matauranga GeoTour has now ended. Thank you to the community for all the great logs, photos, and Favorite Points over the last 30 months. It has been so fun!
Found it with Cyclicalcaching today our last geotourcache of the day. Thanks for the stop there!
This is the last of the TMGT two or cash‘s that we will be doing before it expires, it’s definitely brought us to some interesting places.
Had to read very carefully to solve the puzzle, but I managed to solve it within a few minutes last night. Stopped by today and had a poke around but eventually spotted it and it’s logical place.
Thanks for another!

#12,875. Interesting reading Cook’s journal entering the Firth of Thames and around this spot at the mouth of the Waihou River between Orongo, Thames and Kopu in Waikato. Park, walk and grab at the final GZ, which was fortunately relatively quiet at the time of our visit. Quick find. The cache container had been broken and was damp inside. However, the waterproof paper was its job well. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

Solved the puzzle a few days before a weekend away in Thames - good fun, and so interesting too. It was very peaceful here late in the afternoon; just 3 people fishing off the rocks further up towards the bridge. Noted the code word & thanks for the puzzle, and the cache.
Paddle Chick had worked this out at home so it should have been a matter of pulling up and easily finding the cache. We pulled up ok and then the search took longer than it should have. Hopped back in the car to that sickening click sound when turning the key. Paddle Chick had already completed some running repairs on the car yesterday! After a few attempts we then lifted the hood for a look. Neither of us are mechanics but I've lived with one long enough to have an idea of a couple of things to try. A bit of jiggling with the battery connections did the trick - whew because we still had a long way to go and many caches on "the list". Thanks for your significant contribution to the tours kiwicouple - which has been the whole motivation for this mad trip. TFTC # 18,355
Isis58 and I have 4 days to knock of Northland, Coromandel and the remaining tour caches in Waikato that we missed last time. Northland is done and we are now onto Coromandel, yet another place I've never been to. I solved this puzzle when it was first published so it was a quick find here at sunset. Beautiful spot at that time of day. However we ended up spending more time than we would have liked getting the rental car started afterwards. The thought of trying to get the AA out at that time of evening wasnt appealling but Isis58 wiggled a few wires and it started. It happened another couple of times later in the evening on the way to Whitianga which was a worry but then fine again the next day for the last day of our trip. Thanks for your contribution to the geotour

(# 7111) A flying visit up north by flying into Hamilton and then hitting the road up to the Coromandel primarily to get some geotour caches. A quick find but had to be a little bit careful as there was minor activity at the ramp. Thanks for bringing me here.
We were up fishing in Thames with friends today. I solved this puzzle on the way up and we collected it on the way home after collecting our quota of fish. What a great day, TFTC
It's my Mega weekend road trip! This is day five and I'm traveling to Tauranga with a short detour up from Thames to get the awest Coromandel Geotour caches. Will expand on my logs, post photos, qualifying caches for challenges, etc. When I get home. TFTC
First time I've been to Thames in th EE daylight. The river does remind me of its namesake.

It took me a few moments to solve it. But finally i got it. A log of fishermen in early morning. Logbook is still dry, little bit of mud inside cache. Nice one! Tftc
Solved before our roadtrip began. Came to GZ and made a quick find. Some water in the container was tipped out but the log was dry.
Malinkaly and I planned a road trip to go to the MEGA but Covid has postponed the event again. We decided to continue on with our planned journey making adjustments as we go with the ever-changing travel restrictions.
Greetings from Dunedin!
Thanks for the cache, kiwicouple

Solved a long time ago but finally got out to pick it up. Bike ride with Miss 11. Great day.
easy find. lots of people out fishing but no one around. container is cracked and will likely let water in with the next rain or high tide...
Thanks to GSEL for replacing the cache in a slightly different location. Hint has been updated.
#9675. I have a conference in Thames over Queens Birthday weekend. This is giving me a chance to pick up the TMGT caches in this area. I ran into another cacher at Maketu and she mentioned this one had gone missing. So I contacted the CO's to check if they wanted me to put in a replacement. They gave me permission to do so. Arrived at GZ. It had been raining on and off overnight and the location was very wet and muddy. Saw where the original had been placed but it was gone. Put in the replacement very close by but at a more secure location to hopefully reduce the risk of it being washed away. Enjoyed the puzzle and learning more about Cook's visit to this area 250+ years ago. Thanks kiwicouple for the cache.
Like prior searcher i checked all hint objects and a wide area on the ground to, despite the mud. Mud and silt right up to GZ so if on ground probably long gone. I am on 2nd to last TMGT road tour with a goal to get them all so this is a huge bummer, wont be able to get back here before TMGT is finished.
solved the coordinates easy enough. used the hint but still couldn't find cache after searching behind and around 2 different [hint items]
Out on the Thames TMGT trail.
Solved last night in the motel. The final coordinates looked doubtful until I went onto a satellite view. Then I was happy. A quick find while Ms M interviewed some fishermen. 14 snapper by 10am. Nice.
Careful, the magnet is loose. It fell out and I had to search for out in the ground cover.

Interesting history about Cook. Thanks for the puzzle which helped me learn. We collected the cache today on our way home from a week holiday on the beautiful coromandel peninsula
Thanks capperz for putting in a temporary replacement. We will placing a new permanent container by the end of 6 Jan as we make our way home from visiting family.
First stop of the day after leaving home was here, yes really! I'd solved the puzzle last night and was interested in the write up and comparing to the area written about, albeit 250-plus years later. Arrived at GZ and also found the cache was missing, have sent the CO a pic as requested and logging with permission. Onto the other couple in the region before getting to our destination.
Our last visit to the Coromandel was over 12 years ago so it was good to be back in the area after all of that time. We had spent Christmas away in Northland, and a quiet New Year at home before a 4 day/3 night stay in Coromandel town. We explored up the West of the peninsula up to Fletchers Camp, through the middle and across to the East coast of Whitianga and Whangamata, before heading back home 'via' Waihi Beach, where sadly that lady was killed by a shark whilst swimming, RIP. We found all available TMGT options, a few Earthcaches and saw some great sites and sights. Thanks to all COs for their caches here. We didn't do nearly as many as the Seagnoid and TB dragon whose steps we followed in on some days.

Solved the puzzle before our annual New Year's camping at Broken Hills. Then while driving home to Auckland, we stopped here to complete the cache. Couldn't find the cache as per previous entries, but found the obvious GZ.
Received permission from the CO to post as found. TFTC.

After contacting the CO, logging with permission, many thanks!
Drove into the setting sun, disturbing a cock pheasant wandering nearby. Parked up and started searching. Checked the closest object to GZ, and a couple of other likely options nearby. No luck. Then I read the previous logs. A beautiful spot and thanks for bringing me here.

Pretty sure we found where the cache was hidden, but it seems to be all past tensey. Had a chat to the CO who confirmed we had the right place and allowed the find. Many thanks. Sad its gone missing (again?)
Taybeedragon and I went on a tour of the Coromandel - one of the few places of New Zealand, especially of Te ika a Maui, that I have yet to explore throughly, and from there along the coast to Opotiki to see one of my many, many sisters. From 18 December to 5 January we found over 400 caches, including 12 adventure labs (60 caches), 20 or so TMGTs and a host of virtuals and earthcaches. And I hosted an event to see the sun come up on New Year's day - surprisingly popular given that it was at 5am. We climbed a lot of hills, saw some amazing beaches that were quite popular despite (or because of) the insane access to them, walk a lot of bush, entered and explored 8 gold mines and generally had an awesome time. However I am glad to be back, but now is the hard part, and I fear it will take just as long - logging!

The Seagnoid had this one solved before our travels so we have only to track it down. But it remained elusive. We found an odd bracket close to GZ. Is it or not? Well yes it was. Thanks to the CO for permission to log this one. Cheers .
Day 5 - Tuesday 22 December -Paritu Bay, Coromandel, Thames and back to Coromandel by dark Left Zara resting in Coromandel while we went exploring with Toby. Loved Driving Creek Railway today.
The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are off on another geocaching escape over Xmas, this time to the mighty Coromandel, then over to Opotiki and stop off at Rotorua to return home on 5 January. Had an fabulous time exploring many wonders of our country. Rounding up over 400 caches along the way, with a few LABS, 20 odd TMGTs, virtuals and lots of interesting earth caches to keep the mind busy. Watching the sun come up on New Years Day at Mt Maunganui was spectacular. Lots of walking and even more driving. But had an awesome time. Thanks to all COs who made this adventure so special.

Heading up to Northland to meet the kids for the Christmas holidays. Detoured for an ice cream in Kopu as it was such a hot day. Probably not the best place to get an ice cream but the petrol station did the job. Parked up by GZ but were unable to find the cache. Soon realised that the recent “found” had had the same problem. Messaged the CO who confirmed we had the right coordinates and kindly gave us permission to record it as found. Thanks.

North Island Campervan trip Day 4
After the fantastic holiday I had a few months ago traveling around the South Island, making the most of one of those incredibly cheap campervan deals available at the time, I figured it was worth taking a week off work before the stresses of the usual holiday period to enjoy some of the delights to be found around the top of the North Island.
This would be a great chance for me to seek out some targeted caches such as the TMGT ones as well as some that would help me with my Jasmer grid, missing minutes (for a couple of challenge caches I'm working on) and any other caches that caught my eye.
I had just picked up the campervan and my intention was to make my way over to the Coromandel and end up in Whitianga for the night. I was looking forward to the journey as this is not a route I have traveled often, and never since discovering Geocaching!
Having sorted out some good looking co-ordinates, I was able to park up close to GZ. There were only a couple of boaties around sorting out their catch for the day and they were not paying me any attention as I made my search. 10 minutes later, having thoroughly searched the greater GZ location I was convinced I had found where the cache should be, but no cache. I took photos and sent them to the CO who has confirmed that the cache appears to be MIA, but gave me permission to log.
Thanks for setting this cache up.

Thanks the first time I came over the bridge it was one way. Nice to see the new bridge. My sister use to live in Pauanui so I visited a few times . I’m from Dunedin.
Travelling around the north island with my other sister geocatching. Her main aim was the TMGT cache.

I was down in Auckland this weekend to help my son and his family move into their first house. I'd planned to join a group of cachers to do a one day blitz on the Coromandel TMGT caches. We left Auckland at 7. 30am and got back to their accommodation 12 hours later. Some beautiful sights were seen, fun had and interesting poses performed for a certain G-2 cache in Pauanui. We went straight to the final as we'd done our homework. A quick find, TFTC
An interesting history to read about and then spot parts of the journal on the journey to the final! Nice and well maintained cache, no one about today. TFTC and puzzle!
Was really dubious about my numbers but happily the cache was where I calculated, woohoo! Doing a tiki tour around Coromandel with Effie
Called in today with a replacement cache. It is once again hidden at about chest height.
Mrs nzkites solved this last night on the way over to Thames for a few days. The final took us to an interesting spot with nice views as the sun went down. We found the cache quickly but in our haste to sign and return it before being seen by the occupants of another vehicle which arrived (not geocachers), we forgot to look for the code word! The log was dry but unfortunately the container was rusting and it was difficult not to get rust over our hands. Despite this, a fave from us for the puzzle and placement.
Found away from hint location, put back in hint location. Container colourful, but logsheet dry. Retrieved TB

A post-lock down outing was devised by Keylev, so a small contingent of team SEAC loaded up the bikes and headed south to get some fresh air and some caches. A couple of days before we headed down to the HRT I took a look at the map and noticed this puzzle. Got the right info after reading through the journals a couple of times but could not get the green tick - turns out it was a transcription error on my part when I was entering it into the checker - duh!
Enjoyed the puzzle and the info, certainly gave me a new appreciation of the area as we cycled from Waitakaruru to Kopu. The final was a quick find. TFTC and a fav here.

An adventure was planned with some of the Team SEAC crew to explore a part of the country that we had not visited before now that lockdown has lifted and we are allowed to travel a little further from home.
There were laughs, groans and muscle pains but it was, as always, heaps of fun.
We had finished the trail we had planned but of course there is always time for 'just one more'.
Thanks for the cache.

Out for a bit of cycling along the HRT trail. The Kopu to Waitakaruru leg, kindly arranged by Keylev, joined also by NZTravellers, and HeMaLuDy, Purply, and Darthcacher1.
Signed in as 'SEAC' to save logbook space. Stopped in for lunch at Pipiroa, and then back on the trail, before the rain came....not quite...got a little damp towards the end. (luckily it's not too cold today)
Just had to do this one whilst in the area...not to sure we'll get to the others in this series though, but thanks for the history info.
A great day, and a great group of people.

Thanks to Keylev for organising our outing today we tackled the HRT from Waitakaruru to Kopu collecting caches along the way with Keylev, NZTravellers and Stik-a-crane. This was the first time the HeMaLuDy's had been on their bikes in over 2 years, and it showed today - a couple of the team opted to enjoy the hospitality of the cafe halfway along the journey and wait for the fitter members of the team to complete the trail. The day before our trip we noticed this blue questionmark nearby so had to make the solve to see where the final might be in realtion to our cycle. Pleased to get a green tick on the checker, and very interested to learn the history of Cook exploring the area. What is a few hundred metres more after cycling 28 kms. Happy to make a successful find here. Favourite point given for the history learnt.
Out and about for a few days for a bit of a road trip around the Coromandel area. Day Five of my road trip. I started my travels in Tairua and ended my day in Nelson via Auckland on my way home for four weeks of pandemic lockdown Had to cut my trip short after the recent developments so this could be my last chance for some caching for a while. Solved the puzzle a wee while ago and found the replacement cache today. TFTC, Biggles.
I'm logging this with the permission of the CO as it seems to be gone and certainly isn't where it's meant to be.
However, also with permission from the CO we have placed a temporary cache container at the base with a rock on it to hopefully prevent it from washing away . It has the code word for the geo tour on the log sheet.
Thanks for letting me claim this so that I can continue to inch my way closer to that 90% mark.

Looked for this twice with no luck. Seems like it should have been straight forward
Took a bit of tinkering with several answers as I wasnt sure which ones I had right & which ones I had wrong. A couple of red crosses before hitting the jackpot.
In the area today, so stopped to earn the smiley. 29deg outside so was glad of a quick find. TFTC

An important objective in today’s travels was to find some more of the TMGT caches. No problems getting the requested information and the nicely hidden cache was found quickly. Signed log, recorded code, TFTC.
After solving the coords, this was a quick find, but it offered the dog a chance to get wet and muddy.
Thanks for the puzzle.
Thanks for the puzzle.
Solved a while ago. Happened to be passing so I thought I'd pick it up. Quick find in good condition with little fuss. TFTC.
I have been getting lots of questions as to why I haven't got lots of the TMGT caches, so I came by to get a few more on my list. TFTC.

Loved this cache, reading the journal entries was fascinating. An added bonus on finding the container was a lovely new TB. We’ve been enjoying the TMGT caches since arriving in NZ on 4 December and have now got more than half. Great fun. Have an FP and TFTC
We had fun solving the puzzle and were relieved that the checker I gave us the green light. On our way up to Coromandel from staying in Tauranga it seemed ideal to come via this and the other TMGT caches near Thames. A nice hide, but in Britain a hide like this would be muggled quickly! Have a favourite.
Off to Thames to get some supplies, so looked for a local cache. Solved the puzzle and found despite some vehicles parked nearby. Thanks very much kiwicouple
No entry sign had me going so parked outside. Had yo wait for muggles to finish playing with their boat. Dropped off tb.
What a fabulous idea to share the history of our great country with both visitors and locals. We are slowly chipping away at the series.
Enjoyed reading the info to to gain the required numbers. Located this one on a day trip in the area and luckily we found the hint item confirming we were in the correct place TFTC.

Fun little puzzle to solve and it worked out perfect when we drove past in the evening prior to looking for a camp site. Cheers
TFTC. Sat In a cafe eating our lunch working out this geocache, interesting history. Found this cache easy a few muggles around today on a beautiful sunny day.
Well this was a bit unexpected, I managed to get an opportunity to get a long weekend and since I was making my way up to Taranaki, I decided that once I finished work on Thursday instead of making my way back home to Wellington I would make my way North.
Got up early this morning and decided that I would go to the Coromandel and back to Auckland to pick up the final lot and the balance of the TMGT caches that I needed to find.
After finding GC8DEQR - TMGT - Cook's Tree, this was the next TMGT cache that I wanted to find today, I had managed to solve this puzzle not too long after it was published so I had the final co-ordinates in my GPSr. The drive to GZ really didnt take too long and once I neared GZ, I was able to get a safe parking spot near by and it was time to make my way to GZ and it wasnt too long before I was soon at GZ and once there it was just a matter of finding the cache. Decided to read the hint and there wasnt too many spots that the cache could be and I soon spotted something and I soon realised that it was the cache.
Managed to retrieve the cache, opened, retrieved the code and signed the logsheet and then it was time to return the cache back to where I got it from. Thanks kiwicouple for placing this cache here and for bringing me to this spot. TFTC TNLNSL (15112). What a great spot for a cache , was glad that there were no muggles around GZ when I attemppted this cache.
Now it is time to go back to my car and make my way to the next cache that I wanted to find today........

For a D2 cache, I found the puzzle to be a bit on the tricky side so I was pleased to arrive at the correct coordinates. Finding the nicely hidden cache was a much simpler affair.
We are tiki touring the area picking up the odd cache and the geotour caches. thanks for the history and the placement, gave us a great reason to visit the area.
I a māua e tatari ana i te puta atu o tētahi poti, ka mau i te pani ārai hihirā. Aianei kia rite! Taukiri ē, naianei ētahi atu kaimātakitaki anõ. Heioi anõ, kia māia! I a au e "panui" ana te tohu, ka pāhuangia te whakaputunga e KR. He orite taua awa ki te Thames? Ki oku nei whakaaro, kao!/ While we were waiting for a boat to be launched we put on sunscreen. Now we're ready! Darn, now there are other spectators. So, be brave! While I was "reading" the notice, KR was plundering the cache. This river is the same as the Thames? I don't think so! Tftc
A nice quick find today with Ms_KR. The find took longer than it should have, the nearby facility was in use and there was a couple having lunch in the car looking directly at GZ.
Christmas holiday road trip to Auckland time. Day ten Hamilton to Coromandel
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

What a great adventure this has been. Gr33nslime put me onto the Tuia Matauranga GeoTour and has been the main driver to get the family out and around New Zealand. This tour has taken us to some really different and wonderful places that we would not normally have been too. The wealth of information that has been shared about the country has been great to read and filled in many information gaps that I had about our early history. Thanks for the cache and for bringing us here and for taking part in the tour. It has been all very enjoyable and will the driving and days full of caching has been rather different, it has been filled with visits to very unique places full of local history like this. Where will this tour take us next I wonder..
# 1824 On the move from Wellington to Auckland with the fam so it was the perfect opportunity to travel up the east coast and collect this series of geo tour caches.
Over from Whitianga this morning along 23 km of gravel. Had sat on the motel bed last night and figured the answers out after a bit of copy and paste and word searching. In the end must have read the whole document a few times but it was actually enjoyable. Really liked how this series of caches in this region relates directly to where cook had been during his explorations.
GZ was deserted when we arrived so it was a relaxing find of the nicely hidden cache. Thanks kiwicouple for this one and your contribution to the geotour series in this area.

We were geocaching around the Thames/Coromandel area with the intention of completing the HRT trail and doing others that have languished in the "too hard" basket. Now we are focusing on the TMGT Challenge so we couldn't leave this one undone. We sat in the camper this morning and worked on the puzzle, which didn't take too long and after completing the trail headed to Thames for the night and to pick up this one on the way. We arrived at GZ and wouldn't you know it, on a very quiet Sunday someone was parked right where we needed to look. Go away. However we studied the river for a while and tried to look nonchalant, read the sign, and decided that the occupant of the car wasn't taking any notice of us, she was busy trying to do something inside the car, not sure what, looked like she was trying to hot wire it. Lol. Mr S quickly retrieved the cache, and we soon had it signed and replaced.
Thanks for another smilie in the TMGT Challenge kiwicouple.

I enjoyed learning about Cook's travels while completing this puzzle. It was informative and made the journey feel more real for me. I made a bit of a detour to get here but was keen to get as many Geo Tour caches as I could while in the 'vicinity'. Thanks for the puzzle and the cache.
Nice easy puzzle to solve with much interesting reading. Very nice place to visit thx.
Work brought me up tho Auckland on Friday. It seemed too good an opportunity to miss so I stayed on for the weekend. After spending the morning in Karaka I drove to Thames this afternoon to seek out the TMGT caches. Had the place to myself. No problems finding the cache. Cheers and TFTC
Heading to Coromandel from Hamilton. Stopped to get after solving it. Very peaceful today tftc
Out and about today around the area caching with Supernannny, Jag50 and Merlot58 - the main purpose of our trip was to collect TMGT caches.
This was our first cache of the day, solved by Merlot for the purposes of the find and now by me. Arrived at GZ in the streaming sunshine and quickly worked out where the cache was likely to be and walking across so it was.
Nice job on the cache here to get it to stick in the right place but no trouble to find the cache and we signed in. Bit of debate but we decided to go with our individual names for the importance of the geotour caches as the best approach.
First one under our belt we were quickly back in the car and on our way. Thanks for the cache, all good here.

Oh dear...Nearly forgot to log this!
I like the way you have done this puzzle....We sure had to read everything carefully a few times and concentrate to get the correct answers.. .
Luckily there were 4 of of us here and 2 of them had done it in advance at home!
Easy find here...thanks kiwicouple

Headed south for a road trip with Tuolei, Merlot58 and Supernanny. First stop for the day. We were able to park close to gz and took a short stroll where we made a quick find.
I was on a road trip with Tuolei, Jag50 and Supernanny with the main purpose of collecting some of the TMGT caches. I had solved this one when it was published so we headed straight here from Auckland and after parking up we walked to gz and made a nice quick find exactly where the hint said it should be. Thanks for the placement
Took a little while to sort out the calculations once this was done it was straight forward..would have loved a check sum nice spot I have been here a few times and it was pleasing to find the cache all nice and safe thanks for the Cache Kiwi couple ..great fun
The Joy's of needing glasses to read now. I was trying to solve this as we drove here after a visit to all the rallies in Tai Tokorau county. We had to stop and re check the answers. I still wasnt sure of some but put some plausible numbers in as a waypoint and that looked good. Headed over to investigate. Aha yes. Thanks heaps for the interesting history lesson ( one way to make us read it!). Thanks for the placement kiwicouple.
A trip was planned to go and get the Coromandel Geotour caches (and somehow the Tauranga ones were also added….). Went in my car, since it's likes the metal roads, (and no one else wanted to get their cars dirty..lol) was with rustynz and Rebel98 and FMZ for a very long day that got me to bed about 3am.
Love the history of Cook's diaries. With the questions asked, it made you look carefully at what was written. Rusty made short work of finding this cache. I was busy taking fotos as I do for the logs that come. Thanks again kiwicouple.

Found this while out on a TMGT caching day out with rusty, gorby, rebel and bruce. This one was solved at home before coming out, an interesting little puzzle. Great history. TFTC!!!

Solved this puzzle at home, because I needed to slowly process all the information first. Thank you for the wealth of information you have incorporated in all your cache placements for this tour. Cache was nicely tucked away from prying eyes and blended in nicely. No fishermen to worry about, as they were all still out at sea. TFTC
