Excellent hint.Caching around Hackham and the ORNP today.alysse14, I found Cuckoo today. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache.
Spending a long weekend in the Southern suburbs which I havent visited very much since I started geocaching. So lots of unfound caches to keep me busy. The main theme was to target solved mysteries, highly favourited caches, caches requiring a TOTT, adventure labs and any other caches that I passed by.My first visit here a couple of years ago was not successful so I walked away without the smilie. With a string of recent finds I returned with much optimism. Needless to say, the DNF has been rectified. Thanks for the cache alysse14.# # #14066 # #
Out doing some rally work for the Adelaide Rally and grabbing some caches along the way TFTC
This was the second of many today as naughtybunny and I cache the nearby gorge. This one was spotted thanks to the clue and logged. TNLN. Cheers.
Quick find today on our way to do some caches and hiking at Onkaparinga Gorge National Park, the hint was helpful. No Cuckoos today but a Gray Fantail and 267 blue wrens were flitting around!

Quick find with cachehunter on and after work caching run. Cache is in good condition tftc
Found with NiciDanielle. Can't tell ya how many times I've driven this section of road and thought "this would be a great spot for some caches", but never actually bothered to check if there were. My questions were answered, with aplomb. TFTC
Nice easy roadside find on the way home from finding some caches up at Clarendon. TFTC alysse14
Tried looking for this over a year a go with no joy. Happen to be passing by today so thought I would give it another try and found quite easily with the help of the hint. TFTC
Found while traveling down to Clarendon (with a few short detours) to clear up a cluster of caches in the area. Thanks for the cache alysse14!
Down south again today, this time to finish off the drive-bys in my 42K circle and get a few that don't need a lot of walking to get. Managed to find 17 but had 2 DNFs
Was lucky enough to spot this one fairly quickly.
Thanks to alysse14 for putting out this cache for me to find.
*This log composed and published using GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife).*

Found while making our way on the Echidna trail and hopefully the waterfall spur trail if my knees will allow! Log paper all good. TFTC
Out and about at a nearby Doctor's appointment at nearby surgery my usual clinic came to hike the ecidna trail so this ended up being the cache for today
A very simple find out in the open. Not what I had thought it would be.
No pen today but will drop by soon and sign the log.

I left work and was heading for a multi i needed on a calendar day. I got distracted by the nearby adventure lab cache and then headed back to the Onkaparinga Gorge. Again got distracted by another 2 trads ( this being one of them ). quick find.
Quickish find on a drive along the top of the hill, we do love birds, we havent seen any cuckoos here but plenty of parrots and other natives. But we do love the lovely Cuckoo clocks!!
In the traditional style the wooden case is decorated with carved leaves and animals. They have an automaton of a bird that appears through a small trap door when the clock strikes. The cuckoo bird is activated by the clock movement as the clock strikes by means of an arm that is triggered on the hour and half hour.
There are two kinds of movements: one-day (30-hour) and eight-day clockworks. Some have musical devices, and play a tune on a Swiss music box after striking the hours and half-hours. Usually the melody sounds only at full hours in eight-day clocks and both at full and half hours in the one-day timepieces. Musical cuckoo clocks frequently have other automata which move when the music box plays. Today's cuckoo clocks are almost always weight driven, though a very few are spring driven. The weights are made of cast iron in a pine cone shape and the "cuckoo" sound is created by two tiny gedackt pipes in the clock, with bellows attached to their tops.
In musical quartz clocks, the hourly chime is followed by the replay of one of twelve popular melodies (one for each hour). Some musical quartz clocks also reproduce many of the popular automata found on mechanical musical clocks, such as beer drinkers, wood-choppers, and jumping deer.
Uniquely, quartz cuckoo clocks often include a sensor, so that when the lights are turned off at night they automatically silence the hourly chime. Other quartz cuckoo clocks are pre-programmed not to strike between a set of pre-determined hours. Whether this is controlled by a light sensor or pre-programmed, the function is referred to as a "night silence" feature.
Mechanical cuckoo, 1650
In 1629, many decades before clockmaking was established in the Black Forest, an Augsburg nobleman by the name of Philipp Hainhofer (1578–1647) penned the first known description of a modern cuckoo clock. The clock belonged to Prince Elector August von Sachsen.
Likewise, in a widely known handbook on music, Musurgia Universalis (1650), the scholar Athanasius Kircher describes a mechanical organ with several automated figures, including a mechanical cuckoo. This book contains the first documented description—in words and pictures—of how a mechanical cuckoo works. Kircher did not invent the cuckoo mechanism, because this book, like his other works, is a compilation of known facts into a handbook for reference purposes. The engraving clearly shows all the elements of a mechanical cuckoo. The bird automatically opens its beak and moves both its wings and tail. Simultaneously, there is heard the whistle—call of the cuckoo, created by two organ pipes, tuned to a minor or major third.
On the other hand, in 1669 Domenico Martinelli, in his handbook on elementary clocks Horologi Elementari, suggests using the call of the cuckoo to indicate the hours. Starting at that time the mechanism of the cuckoo clock was known. Any mechanic or clockmaker, who could read Latin or Italian, knew after reading the books that it was feasible to have the cuckoo announce the hours.
Subsequently, cuckoo clocks appeared in regions that had not been known for their clockmaking. For instance, the Historische Nachrichten (1713), an anonymous publication generally attributed to Court Preacher Bartholomäus Holzfuss, mentions a musical clock in the Oranienburg palace in Berlin. This clock, originating in West Prussia, played eight church hymns and had a cuckoo that announced the quarter hours. Unfortunately this clock, like the one mentioned by Hainhofer in 1629, can no longer be traced today.
Thanks alysse14 for the cache, all in good condition. Found it, signed the log and replaced safe and sound as found. TNLN

Today with my own event on at the pancake kitchen in Renella, I decided to do a few caches before hand on my way there, after the event I went for a drive with Brad&Janet to Aldinga before leaving on my own for a walk in Onkaparinga. Total of 31 finds

I remember being traumatized as a child seeing a documentary about cuckoos - how the chick kills all the other babies in the nest, and how the chick continues to demand to be fed even after it is way bigger than its foster parents. Nature can be cruel.
Cache found, and I’m on my way, thanks alysse14.

A nice swift park and grab before wandering into the bushy unknown for 2 more hides on a lovely sunny 23oC day after the most welcoming rains!
(Mud may be everywhere this year, ruining shoes and carpets, but it's a sure sign that rain is plentiful and Grain Crops / Gardens / Water Tanks / Parks and Gardens are all benefitting because of it [^] A very welcoming break for those on the land doing it tough in a very unusual year [:o])

Searched for a long while with searchtilwedrop but no joy. That made us 3 out of 5 for the afternoon park walk.
On a sunny day hiking with the family, quick stop for an easy cache! The kids took a while to find it! Thank you
I had to head down south to the boondocks (at least that’s what it felt like) today to pick up some goods I was getting repaired and took the opportunity to make the most of the trip by also finding a few caches. The puzzles and multis close to the northern boundary of the Onkaparinga National Park were my main targets, but I was also able to find a few others as I headed back home.
Despite it being a cold morning, it had warmed up a bit as the day progressed and there were still quite a few people out and about, no doubt enjoying the intermittent sunshine. At least there was no rain.
I stopped at this cache on my way back to my car after visiting the nearby letterbox.
Thanks alysse14 for the cache.

A great night after work enjoying the outdoors with [@Davidwazza](http://coord.info/PR61VZX) ! The track took us on a lovely walk down to the gorge and waterhole, and of course found this cache along the way! TFTC!
Tonight, I headed with [@jesswrigley](http://coord.info/PRNW59T) to Onkaparinga River National Park for a bit of hiking and sightseeing. This was a section that we hadn't visited before, and we stopped off a multi-cache first waypoint, then continued descending into the gorge to see the watering hole, and then climbed back up to complete the multi. From there, we tried taking the direct path back to the track, and it was awful, as the light started to fade, and we were having to climb through all sorts of prickly bushes. At least it was good to get outside for some fitness in amongst the COVID-19 restrictions occurring at the moment.
I started hunting around for this one, and initially saw the cache container, but dismissed it. After a few minutes, I had another inspection, and sure enough, it was the cache. A very creative cache container, but interesting that it wasn't really too well hidden from muggles? Hopefully it doesn't get considered as rubbish. The geocache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks alysse14 for the geocache placement, and ongoing maintenance efforts.

Fun find with geodog today, hint very helpful, creative cache! Thanks alysse14
On a tight time scale. Are driving along in the boogervehichle to a meetup and second youngest suddenly announces, we are literally sitting on a geocache. Driver parks and we grab it within the minute. Always great to end the day with a smiley and not be late home for dinner. Adding to our down south smileyfest, cuckoo.
Today I headed out after getting my chores done to find a multi. I had one in mind at Onkaparinga NP, so with that in mind I headed out.
I managed to find 11 caches in total on a really random drive and pick up of caches.
Really enjoyed my few hours out, enjoyed there sunshine, walking today was a good day to be alive .
Many of the caches seemed to have been placed in the last month or so and all were found in super condition.
Quick stop and find here. TFTC Alysse!

Very clever little spot, stands out but also doesn't, if it wasn't for my mates shiny seeking magpie eyes, would've climbed right over it
I needed a bit of exercise today so thought I would come up here to find a solved puzzle cache and also saw this newish cache so I stopped off here first. [^]
Found the cache quickly as it was uncovered! Stamped the log then replaced the cache and covered with some natural camo.

Panic! I have not found the cache in the first place I looked. Then I re-read the hint and found the cache in the next place I looked.
